Wildfire, Pine Creek, Fries, and Cheese Curds
Erica S.

One of the best burgers I've ever eaten! My husband agreed! The burgers at backcountry are so flavorful and the toppings compliment them so well. I've also never been to a burger place that makes their own buns, they were so light and airy! We also tried the fries and cheese bites, amazing! We will definitely be back when we visit Bozeman again.

Cute logo. I wish they sold shirts too!

Good burgers, beer, fries and staff. I really like a burger that's not 3/4 of a pound and falling apart. This was a solid 1/4 with a bun and everything was edible. I got the backcountry and date got the one with jalapeño and cream cheese and we split fries as we weren't over hungry. We were both satisfied and happy.

Calamity Jane

I was hesitant about the Calamity Jane because of the cream cheese, but our server convinced me to try it and I'm glad i did! The burger was absolutely delicious and one of the best I have ever gotten out. Similarly to other reviews, the cheese curds are a bit skimpy for the price, but taste delicious and worth the splurge. Also, the brussel sprouts were delicious and perfectly flavored.

Service was great. Food was okay - didn't quite hit the spot. We each ordered a burger and shared a kale Caesar salad. The Stillwater (veggie) burger was falling apart with each bite and I was hoping the Backcountry Burger would be more flavorful. Despite the food being mid they have a nice selection of beers and I was glad to see several sour options available.

The food here was phenomenal! I particularly enjoyed the cheese curds. It tasted like the ones I loved from Wisconsin!! The service was great. Our waitress came by enough, but didn't feel like she was hovering. The restaurant is pretty casual.

Great place to grab a burger and fries. Service was welcoming and helpful! Relaxed feel. Their burgers are light and fresh! I love how buttery and soft their buns are. Perfect serving size. Their Brussels sprouts had a spicy Asian taste so yummy along with a refreshing kombucha .

Great little burger spot and decent prices. The burgers were great the brussel sprouts could have been crisper but they were ok. The staff was super cute and helpful.

Poutine

We had great service and a good time, but the burger was lacking. The poutine, mac and cheese, and chicken were delicious, but the burger wasn't anything special. More of a mid homemade burger than anything. Still enjoyed our time.

This place was dee-lish! I got the French Onion soup and the burger. The service was fast and friendly. The French Onion soup was very tasty and the Parmesan was crusted on the side of the bowl just the way like.

Fantastic experience. The food and the service were excellent. Chicken sandwich were hi lights. Parking may take a few minutes in busy weekends. Will come again when in town.

You wouldn't think to get French onion soup in a burger bar, but it was really good. And such a unique concept to have build your own Mac n cheese. There's a variety of topping choices. I went with bacon and spinach which was a great compliment to the creaminess of the cheese sauce. The twirl of the noodles also helped hold the toppings on each bite. We chose to have bison as our patty rather than beef and were very pleased. The burger choices are very creative. My Calamity Jane combined bacon, jalapeño jelly and scallion cream cheese. The flavor combination was incredible. My husband had the Trapper. It was basically a mushroom Swiss burger with upgraded cheese and GRAVY. Way to take it up a notch!! They also have a great selection of beers and other alcoholic drinks.

Just stopping through for the night and wanted a burger! What an amazing place this is! Staff, food, and ambiance were great! Definitely recommend

The bison burger was delicious. I had the onion rings, not like I have ever had before. Very thin strips. Very yummy. Service was good too.

The food is good but you have to order sides separately from your meal which costs extra money or else you just have a plain meal.

We had the FRITES & FONDUE for an appetizer, fries were great, the Parmesan was a nice touch and the fondue didn't have a lot of flavor. Our entrees were served hot, packed with flavor & the pasta was cooked al dente. We both loved the our entrees, as we continued our meal seeing all the other entrees going to tables we are excited to come back to try the vast options on the menu. The cheesecake was delicious & fresh we truly appreciate the quality & taste of desserts being made in house- you can tell the difference & it is absolutely worth it. We will be back, it may be over an hour drive for us but a drive well worth it.

The Fungi Pizza: This is our usual go-to, but the dine-in version was totally off. For takeout, they pack the greens separately so you can control the heavy lime flavor, and they include a cream of mushroom sauce that makes it incredibly creamy. In the restaurant, they forgot the cream sauce entirely and piled the greens on top with so much lime it tasted like biting into lemons. We tried adding salt and pepper to cut the intense acidity, but it didn't help at all. The Japan Chicken: On the plus side, the Japan Chicken was excellent--incredibly juicy and crispy. This dish is actually much better when you dine in. When we get it for takeout, it loses its crunch and ends up feeling like a basic chicken nugget. Definitely order this one fresh at the table.

When we came in at around 4pm, there seemed to be plenty of tables available but after an hour, the place quickly filled up. Vibes/Service: Parking lot in the back and it seemed there was some street parking available as well. Many, many tables available with bar seating as well. It can certainly fit a larger group. Great service from our server. Checked on us often and filled up our waters. Food: Because it was our first meal here, we wanted to try out their staple dishes. -Bison Potstickers ($16): 5 pieces topped with mango and garlic chili sauce and served with some coleslaw. Rich and filling, paired well with the sauce. Would order this again! -Bison Patty Melt ($22): it was my first time eating Bison, the waiter suggested medium rare. It looked more red than I usually like but it actually was juicy and tasty-- I guess this is the difference between a regular beef patty. I'd also order this again. -Served with pepper parmesan fries which was so uniquely food. Fries were fresh. -Huckleberry Cream Ale ($8/pint) paired well with my meal.

My server knew the special menu, regular menu and drinks very well. I ordered the bison patty melt and tots for the meal and the Bridger Hazy IPA for the drink. The bartender recommended the IPA and it was excellent. The homemade tots were great. A shredded potato in the middle, nice and creamy and crunchy exterior. Feedback was there were only 5 on the plate. Definitely could use more. The bison patty met was perfectly cooked. A lot of folks overcook and dry out the bison. It was perfectly medium and juicy. Feedback would be a little char on the patty would be great. The service really tailed off in the end, it was not super busy and they had about 5 servers behind the bar. I sat there for at least 15 min until another bar tender asked if I wanted another brew and my server came about 5 to 10 later to attend to things.

This is another restaurant that would do well with a cocktail menu but they do have a good natural wine selection. We didn't partake but it looked pretty diverse and well selected. They provide a carafe of water on the table, which was good given the service. Service was a bit spotty and kind of slow. We didn't see our server much and the food was pretty slow to come out. However, they were extremely busy, so I can forgive it a bit. The menu was interesting and the food was pretty good when we got it. I will say there were hits and misses though. The hummus and sourdough pita was excellent. Fried delicata squash was so good, I made a roasted version for Thanksgiving. My husbands burger was excellent but the house made ketchup was borderline disgusting. It was cold, unflavored tomato sauce. Not so good. I got steak with pasta and my pasta was severely undercooked. I would have said something but our server was pretty unavailable. We didn't want to stay for dessert and I'm glad we didn't because the check took forever to get to us.
