Service is awesome and the owner is curtious and kind no other place is better than here and the prices are affordable too. On a scale from 1-10 I give pickle barrel of Worcester Massachusetts a 10+

Gus is still running the place - he was a "junior" way back when I first started going.

The waitress who I believe was named Erica (she was the younger taller girl, there were two of them) the one that greeted us was rude and needs to work on her interpersonal/engagement skills and to not mumble (they both were mumbling and you could not hear or decipher what they were saying but then she wanted to cop an attitude because I was about to check her), it was our first time so we walk in taken back at how small it was, she wanted us to wait outside but instead of staying such she gave us a dirty look and her attitude continued at the counter. It is very cramped in there and sitting at the counter was uncomfortably close to other patrons, if I return it will be during the work week but will wait for a booth free up.

I had three eggs, thick-cut bacon, wheat toast and an endless cuppa Joe. No negatives whatsoever! They even gave me those potatoes from the grill, which I seldom eat, and they were seasoned just right and had minimal red and green peppers mixed in. Priced just right. Great service folk. Clean facility in an old car railroad car. What more can you ask for. Highest recommendation!!

The creamer was added for you when you ordered. The cream was stored in a container that appeared to be an original device from the '30s. Worked well enough, so if it ain't broke... you know. I had Italian Breakfast. Three eggs as you like them, toast, hash browns, Italian sausage or a meatball with marinara sauce. I was impressed that I found a bay leaf poking out of the marinara sauce, so I know it was made in-house. I wish there had been a bit more spice, but very good. My wife had an omelette, the Massachusetts Pirate. Very well made with steak, peppers and onions. Also had toast and hash browns. We didn't have them, but the pancakes looked delicious. We saw several prepared while we waited at our counter seats. They're big and quite fluffy. Might have to have those next time. The place was very busy. Service was a bit slow, but gotta expect that for a place like this. Very, very friendly. We expect to go again!

Busy joint, tight seating, and energetic servers who keep attentive. -- Patty Melt: So much to like about this, from the marble rye (though I think pumpernickel) to the full size patty (better than the double smashed you get elsewhere) to the onions to the gooey melted cheese to the extreme juiciness and pleasing flavor. I didn't detect any Russian dressing, but this sandwich wasn't lacking for moistness or flavor oomph. A near-elite rendition and one of the best I've had in a while. Excellent. -- Fries: Included with the patty melt and a plentiful supply. The bad news: they're the dreaded industrial "coated" kind. The good news: they were piping hot and cooked perfectly, crisp outside, fluffy inside. The great news: you can substitute home fries. My server offered a sample of the home fries. -- Home Fries: I found them to be right in my wheelhouse for doneness, crispness, seasoning, onions, and overall texture and flavor. Superb. Between the good looking plates that passed by and my enjoyment of my own food on my first visit, there's sure to be a second. Looking forward to returning with my wife for breakfast and more of those home fries.

She was very helpful with making decisions on what to have with what. I had the Reuben. A long-time favorite of mine. They make their own rye bread, and it shows. I think I might've asked for more kraut, but it was still very good. My wife had two eggs, over easy, with corned beef hash. She realized they put saurkraut into the hash, too, making it quite tasty. My youngest had the meat-lover's omelette. It was impressive. So much flavor. And it didn't taste too greasy with all the meats. My oldest had a BLT. I didn't get to taste it, but he definitely enjoyed it.

Lots of counter stools and booths in 1950s pastel yellows and greens. My visit was a patty melt quest. They happily served it during the morning hours. The good: - Proper use of rye bread and onions - Proper buttering and griddling of the bread - Beef pink and juicy - Can substitute tots or hash browns for fries - Good flavors and mostly good textures The not-so-good: - Cheap beef with a clenched feel; a bit rubbery The cooking and overall presentation overcame the weakness of the beef ingredient to yield a tasty and pleasurable finished product. But the beef is noticeable as the weak link. Spicy hash browns were very good. Soft texture with some crispness too, and very enjoyable spiciness that didn't overpower. Decent coffee. Friendly service.
