Heard wonderful things about Pickle Jar Kitchen, but was really underwhelmed. I had the tuna melt which was a solid B, but my husband's salad was tasteless and the chicken that topped it was so dry. We also ordered the lemonade which was way too sweet and tasted like fresh squeezed lemons mixed with old school crystal light. Not sure what was going on there... Then as we were finishing our meal in the back outdoor seating area, billows of smoke poured into the space from the two large vents in the back of the building. The smell was of oven or grill cleaner. After inhaling a bunch of smoke, we couldn't get out of there fast enough. Unfortunately, I don't recommend. I gave it three stars because our waitress was so sweet and they're dog friendly. read more

We had a horrible experience at another cape restaurant last night. Lunch at the Pickle Jar today made up for it and then some. This place blew me away with my family and I enjoying every single thing we ordered. The Turkey Fingers were delicious, the chicken sammies were great. The pickle chips were perfect (and the portion was huge) and the loaded fries HOLY BBQ PORK, Batman! I couldn't stop eating them. I can not recommend this place more. We came with a crew of cousins (5) who really wanted chocolate chip pancakes and three adults - two of which eat low carb and wanted omelettes- let's just say The Pickle Jar has something for everyone ! We called ahead on a Saturday morning and they had a table ready for us. They also brought out chef hats and crayons to keep the kids entertained. The Pickle Jar is a quirky and cute place to grab breakfast or lunch. I was sad you can't order the breakfast menu all day. Their selection of sandwiches could be more extensive but I was intrigued by the turkey fingers. It was nice to see a new option instead of the usual chicken tenders. The panko breading was spot on and the french fries were more like crisps but they were good. The side salad was a highlight as well and very fresh. I admit as someone who isn't a big fan of pickles, the fried pickles as an appetizer weren't bad since they were lightly breaded and came with ranch...but anything with ranch tastes good! read more

(as an aside: Get the Yelp smartphone app. When you find yourself looking for food, you can search restaurants, filter by price range and distance, and sort either by rating or by distance. It is _way_ better than guessing. Get it!) Anyway, the app led me to the Pickle Jar. I ordered the tofu salad, egg salad sandwich for my wife, and the pickle plate. It was all perfect. At first I was a bit surprised that it took 30m for my take-out order, but when it came it was clear that the fried tofu was made to order. +1 And my wife, who hates pickes, was blown away by the pickled cauliflower. We had an early Ferry from the Vineyard on a Sat morning. Got there shortly before 8:30 and there was a wait (maybe 25 minutes) that was totally worth it. The hostess was informative and kind. We had the amazingly fluffy perfectly prepared large griddle cakes and the entree that has eggs, toast, home fries (homies) and meat. We ordered the ham steak and it was plenty for 2! Eggs cooked as ordered (for once the well cooked eggs had no brown). We would have liked more homies on the plate though. Everything was tasty, came out quick and hot and the waitress Jen was a pro with a great and open attitude. Everything was stellar and yummy. Best breakfast of our vacay! We will return! It took about 45 minutes to get our food which is excessively long when you consider the fact that breakfast dishes are usually just eggs. Great lunch spot on Main St. Open for breakfast and lunch, with different menus so get there for whichever you want. I was there for lunch and had the Firehouse sandwich, tried their house fries, and had their "loaded fries" and fried pickles as well. This is the type of place where it's the little things that make it. No single item makes it on the menu without being what I'd say is "uniquely pickle jar". For example, the fries are thin strip cut and uses their house made "smoked salt" for a great flavor you won't find elsewhere. You'd be a fool to not order the fries as "loaded fries" to share with your fellow diners. These fries are now covered with bacon, pulled pork, and a tasteful glazing of smoked cheddar sauce. Their fried pickles are the best I've had with a very thin breading fried to a satisfying crisp and never came across a soggy one....that could be because they disappeared so fast. I can't wait to come back and try out the breakfast menu because I hear wonderful things about the "blueberry muffin french toast" and hash. read more

Great breakfasts here. Holidaying in the Falmouth area with my family, we've eaten at the Pickle Jar twice and found it to be good on both occasions. The pastrami seasoned smoked salmon with bagel is awesome, as is the pork and chili hash. My kids love the oversized griddle cakes. We liked the little shades of Portlandia too - everything pickled. Had a negative experience there today. We ordered four meals and a couple of sides. Three of us were happy with our entrees and the two sides. The fourth person in our party took just one bite of a pulled pork entree and didn't like the taste--said it tasted "gamey." When she told the waiter, she said "I'm sorry. Can we get you something else?" Our guest ordered something else, which was fine. When we checked out, we noticed that we had been charged for the rejected entree as well as the replacement. The manager said they don't make refunds. She said it was just a matter of personal taste, and if they let people return food they didn't like, they'd be out of business. I've never encountered this in a restaurant before. It seems like an occasional rejected meal is part of the cost of doing business and keeping customers coming back. (We sure won't be back.) After considerable discussion, the manager agreed to refund half the cost of the replacement entree. (It seems like the wait staff person should have told us that we would be charged for the meal that was returned before a second choice was ordered.) read more

This is my daughter's favorite place whenever she visits us. Our favorites are the French Toasts, the second to none, and the specials. Their special menu changes but we always look for their specials on the bulletin boards first. The coffee is not as good as the ones at Starbucks but good enough to enjoy their delicious meals. No complaint though. They are very friendly and welcoming which I like a lot. If you go early you may be able to sit at the round window seats. They are fantastic! read more

Came here for lunch and split a firehouse and town house with a companion. They were both delicious. I love how the sandwiches come with pickles instead of chips or fries. So tasty and much healthier. The veggies were still perfectly crunchy. Enjoyed the town house better. Got horse radish on the side and it was just on point. The bread for the town house was the best. The firehouse was good too but the flavors weren't too usual to me. Very ordinary flavors with not much contrast. Also got fried pickles which were ok. They were sliced real thin so I didn't get as much pickle flavor as I would've liked. The sauce with it was fantastic though. Super cute stuff one the walls and looks so quaint. The service was fantastic too. Quite expensive for sandwiches - my only complaint. But I do appreciate their uniqueness and care into the food. read more

This morning my wife ordered a take-out breakfast there: Blueberry Muffin French Toast, 3 Egg Omelette and House Hash. Sumptuous, but simple, right? Well, here's where things go haywire. I go in to pick up the food. It's there -- hot and ready to go. Only (and here's where things take a turn for the unexpected) scattered about the counter in glistening glass domes are the most delicious looking muffins (gooey apricot!), scones (cinnamon raisin!) and cupcakes (coconut!). So OF COURSE we have to get some of those, too! I mean, WE'RE ONLY HUMAN. And humans are weak, susceptible to temptation and prone to stuffing their faces with sweet treats. SWEET TREATS DISPLAYED LIKE BAKED GOODS PORNOGRAPHY WHERE INNOCENT KIDS AND WEAK-WILLED ADULTS CAN SEE THEM AND NOT POSSIBLY RESIST. Really friendly, warm place for lunch in downtown Falmouth decorated with charming, old-fashioned kitchen gadgets and as you can guess featuring pickles. I had the open-faced BBQ pork with Gouda on a cheddar, scallion scone with a side salad. It hit the spot on a cold day. We had a table outside and it was lovely with a nice breeze . I had their Bloody Mary -wow ! So good , it came with a skewer with a sampling of al their pickled veggies. Delicious. The pickled vegetables are the best I've ever had. I was starving and decided to opt for the bourbon lemonade, which was delicious if a little sweet for my taste, egg salad sandwich which was $&!ing perfect, and the aptly named Road race roll, which I could not finish all of, but will make excellent leftovers. Wow! I would recommend this restaurant to just about anyone. During my visit, I ordered the delicious, crunchy fried pickles as an appetizer and the Road Race Wrap as my main course. I'm a vegan, and this place is certainly vegan-friendly, with many choices I could've picked. I sampled some of my family's food and it was all astoundingly good. If you come, the great drink you should get is the lemonade. It has a sweet, sour, bitter taste and is very refreshing! The place has a warm, cozy atmosphere with lots of conversation among people, and my waitress was very friendly and accommodating. Inside, almost feel like you are in a log cabin. The building is decent sized and comfortable, and the bathrooms actually smell good!! I definitely, would come again! read more
