Dined here on a Saturday afternoon for an early dinner. We ordered The Westlake Combo, The Ruben & The Super Ruben. A dish of delicious pickles and bowl of bagel chips with Ranch dressing was brought to the table (free) before we ordered. All sandwiches devoured as they were all quite good. We ordered a mimosa with cranberry juiced. We were shocked at the size of the "glass" it came in. Service was great and attentive. Our waiter Leonardo took good care of us. We stopped by here a couple of weeks ago to grab some lunch on our way home. I got the the Opened Face Roast Beef sandwich covered in a nice brown gravy and served with mash potatoes. My wife got the Pastrami sandwich on rye for her entree with a side of potato salad. We both enjoyed our choices and were glad we picked them The service was very friendly, attentive, and timely. They have a very big parking lot themat serves them a nearby businesses so parking was very easy. The outside seating was dog friendly which is another reason we chose this place to eat. read more

We always love coming here. It has the hussle and bussle of a deli but is quit comfy and inviting. We came on Father's Day last time and everything was perfect. We waited 2 mins for a booth and really enjoyed our time and food. I had an omelette it came with a blueberry muffin. Both so delicious. Some orders were a little complicated but everything came out perfect. Thank you to the sever for being so patient. On our way out I think we purchased 7 desserts. The girl up front did amazing. My mom and I had good dinner after Black Friday shopping. She had a huge meatball with spaghetti and marinara sauce.... And brought some home for the next day. I love that they have breakfast served all day... I enjoyed the Belgian waffle with blueberries and bananas...I'm allergic to strawberries.. They accommodated me well. One of my favorite spots in the 805! They don't skimp on food portions, food service is good, menu has a lot of options, serve breakfast all day, for lunch they give you bagel chips, pickles and a generous portion of ranch. This spot is casual and where the locals come to eat with their families and friendly meeting place. Every time I come here family reunions or birthdays are being celebrated. Love that! P.S. I enjoy this deli and the food is good. That said, I feel like every time I go it's not quite as good as it used to be. The portions are large, but sometimes the quality versus quantity just isn't there. I've only been a handful of times, but on one visit we almost walked out because the customer service took a very long time. It took at least 30 minutes before we were even acknowledged after being seated, and that was only after I asked for water. The day we waited, it also seemed rather empty with maybe 2 other tables, which made the delay even more noticeable. I also feel like it's a bit too expensive for what you're getting, and compared to competitors it doesn't feel worth it right now. I am open to coming back in the future to try it again. read more

We love this place. Not sure why their business is down; I read some reviews citing inadequate/slow service. Pickles deli is the epitome of an old school deli. When you sit down they bring picked and bagel chips so you can take your time to go through the extensive menu. Classic sandwiches or plates(pastrami and corned beef) are excellent. Chopped liver was yummy. My wife had the sweet/sour cabbage soup-another winner. There are pages devoted to bfast, salads, sandwiches and full dinners. We could eat a different menu time every day for six months if we wanted to try everything. Our server was excellent. We plan to visit whenever we are in the area. read more

How have I not found this place sooner?!?! The menu is crazy intense, and can give cheesecake factory a run for their money. I don't know how they keep all these ingredients in stock and keep the quality so high and the service so good and still send me home with leftovers! My friends and I were in town for an event in Thousand Oaks and looked up a deli. This was one of the choices, so if we went to discover what could be discovered. Low and behold, we were very pleasantly surprised by the variety and the quality and the service. Maria was our server and she was amazing and I can't tell you how she made the experience that much more positive because every answer to our questions were yes, and I'm sure we can do that. She brought out some bagel chips and ranch dressing and pickles to start with and Man if that doesn't wet your whistle and make you want to order everything, you're not doing it right. We ordered a variety of things a couple of Ortega corned beef sandwiches and a turkey sandwich and a pastrami sandwich. We paid for our orders and then landed in the bakery area upfront. Of course, all of us had to take a little something home to our husband's because we were feeling quite plump and satisfied to not share the experience with our spouses. We walked away with some blueberry pie and an eclair and some muffins and quite a bit more. We're already planning our next trip. We will be there this weekend. And as we sit here, midweek, contemplating all of the delicious options we can take advantage of, we are trying to convince ourselves whether we should go there on Thursday and Friday and Saturday while we are in town. What a delicious dilemma to have heads off to the people that run this place and make sure that the quality still goes. To be honest with you, someone wrote in another review that they were surprised at this place wasn't busy. I hope this review gets out there and people figure out what they need to do... I had never been to pickles deli, because I live in The San Fernando Valley and there's so many delis out there to choose from. But I have two dear friends that live in Ventura County and we chose Pickles deli to meet for lunch. It is really a cute restaurant with nice ambiance, very light and airy. The service was really great and I thought the food was quite tasty . The deli was so good that we met there a second time! The first time I had half a brisket sandwich, and matzoh ball soup. I'm super picky about matzoh ball soup and the broth had such good flavor and depth. It came with a nice size flavorful matzoh ball and lots of chicken and vegetables, just delicious. .My friend had a chopped liver sandwich and barley soup which she quite enjoyed. My other friend had a salad, which she loved. I was quite happy to go back there this time, and again, we had wonderful service. I got an omelette and it was absolutely fantastic. Really big and chock full of different kinds of meat and cheese. On the way out, they have a beautiful display case with all kinds of sweet goodies. All of the desserts are made in house. I have been patronizing pickles deli for the last years since moving to the area. I have never had a bad deal nor have had any unpleasant interaction with anyone. The food has always been top-notch and any changes/modifications have always been simple and easy. Always treated kindly and greeted warmly. My Only negative comment would be the charge for credit card use but it's just like buying gasoline or other restaurants pay cash and problem solved. read more

We were looking for a quick lunch option near our hotel and saw "Deli" so we thought we had a winner...even though deli is in the name, this is definitely more of a sit down, and take your time, restaurant. From the outside it gave of a deli vibe with the covered parking lot seating, but walk in and the place was filled with large booths, a stocked dessert case, and movie star and musical posters all over the place. This felt like much more of a diner than a deli. The menu was 12 pages and was mostly made up of sandwiches, salads, and soups, but there was also a breakfast page and some plate options like steaks and roasted chicken. The food was pretty expensive, sandwiches were all around $20 with the small and large only differing by $2, but at least the portions were massive. Unless you're truly famished, I would highly recommend sharing a sandwich instead of getting your own. None of us were able to finish our meals, and since we were traveling all of our leftovers went to waste. The food was fairly bland, even my dad who is not a salt guy ended up adding salt to his sandwich. I added a few shakes multiple times in the meal. Just about all four of us thought of ways that could add more flavor to our meals and make them better. The real winner at the table was the fires, the complimentary pickles, and the gravy boats of ranch for our fries. Ordered the NY Pastrami sandwich on egg challah bread with onion rings & 1000 island, split to share. The onion rings are the best! Dipped in their homemade thousand island which is so delicious!!! The pastrami was tender and juicy. The portions are big so it's enough to share. Ask for pickles on the house! Iced tea was $4.50 each? that's my only negative part of the review. The service at this restaurant was absolutely terrible. We waited for our food for about 25 minutes at lunchtime, even though the restaurant was not busy. I explained that we had work to do afterward, but no one seemed to care. The food was also expensive. I ordered scrambled eggs with corned beef and extra egg, and the total came to $32+ tips As a Jewish deli, I can tell you that the bagel was incredibly small. I have never seen a bagel so small in my life. I live only 5 minutes away from this restaurant, so I would love to come here all the time. My wife and I stopped in this evening for dinner. The food was delicious, and our server, Mary, was wonderful. The chicken and rice soup with a matzo ball was terrific and not anywhere as salty as the cross-town rival deli's recipe. I had the Chicken Teriyaki Stir Fry, which was extremely tasty. Wonderful deli spot in Ventura County. If you're looking for a fun spot that you can get breakfast and/or lunch items throughout the entire day, this is a solid location to visit. I typically will go with a Reuben or a pastrami, whereas my wife will go with a Chinese chicken salad With a bowl of soup. The last few times she's gone with the matzo ball, which she has fallen in love with when coming here. Wonderful service and the food is super delicious. I wish I had found this spot sooner as they are serving up delicious sandwiches and have a great all American diner family restaurant vibe. I've passed by this spot for years and didn't think much of it. I truly just thought from the freeway this spot was maybe a small sandwich deli and with so many around I hadn't made the extra effort to come here. Today I opted to grab a sandwich on the run and when I arrived I was shocked and pleasantly surprised that this is a full on restaurant! Omg what I thought would be a standing only room deli was in fact a super spacious restaurant with both indoor and outdoor covered seating. I would have never imagined this from the angle on the freeway. Bummer I wasn't prepared or else I would have loved to dine it. They had super cozy and comfortable looking booths and the decor inside was sweet, very old timey and classic. Since I was pressed for time I grabbed a menu and the front and placed an order for takeout. Shannon helped me at the counter and she was just lovely. If service is that go for takeaway orders I'd be confident to say it's probably really great when you dine in. Shannon was very sweet and personable. She made me feel welcomed and when you are ordering food to go you don't expect much "service" but I thought it was lovely she kept referring to me by my name (she knew my name as she wrote it down on the ticket) and even after I placed my order she offered me a water while I sat to wait. Really nice to receive this kind of service. For a Tuesday they had a lot of staff working so it's not wonder the food comes out quickly. I barely waited about 5-7 minutes and my sandwich and fresh French fries were ready to go. Prices are a little higher than you'd expect for a sandwich BUT the portions are massive and easily provide you with leftovers so for that reason it's a better deal than you would initially think. I had a huge club sandwich, French fries, and some extra sides of sauces for $22. Again, there are cheaper delis in the area but for a sit down restaurant with massive portions and quality food I would gladly splurge. My turkey club was phenomenal. Look at my picture, it's a mega stack! I couldn't eat my mouth around it for a proper bite lol. The bacon was super crispy and delicious, plus substituting their Swiss cheese for American was a game changer. Delicious! And again, a whole half sandwich left for dinner. The fries were skinny and tasty, a good pairing. I really love that all of their dressing tastes homemade. Their Russian "thousand island" dressing was so good! Being a sauce girl this spot has really good ones that complimented my fries perfectly. If you are feeling a little bit healthier you can opt for fruit, a side salad, or soup which is great. Lots of options and a huge menu. I definitely won't miss this spot anymore! They've found a new happy customer and I'll definitely be bringing some friends and family with me next time. I've been longing for a Classic home cooking / deli type restaurant and it's nice that this one is close by and easy to access right off the freeway. I wanted to pick up a pie (blueberry pie to be specific) here just to try it and it went just about as I expected from the looks of it. Pie crust was horrible, like rubbery almost, and the texture of the blueberries weren't great. Pie crust should be flaky and blueberries should taste fresh. But this pie tasted as if it's been made a while ago (a while as in DAYS) and preserved. What's more is the pie is freaking $11!!! What the actual heck man. That's expensive for a small pie. Not even Little Calf Creamery (they sell pies for the same size, for $6!!! And WAY better tasting pies. Honestly Sprouts pies are better than either of these places since you get more of a pie for $5.99. Half the price of what you'd pay for a small pie here at Pickles that's not even that great at all. Was pretty disappointed for the dollar value I spent for the quality of food I got. That was my first impression of Pickles and was definitely turned away. Unfortunately I don't ever see myself coming back here from my experience with my purchase. My recommendation if you care to make a change: up the game for your bakery, if you're going to charge that much for a pie. Try the pies from your competitors and see how much better that tastes for what they're charging to get an idea how ridiculous the amount of money customers pay for the lack of value they get in food. read more

Yet another great meal at Pickles! On a Sunday, our family enjoyed wonderful food: egg white omelette with avocado, olives and spinach + cottage cheese and multigrain toast; scrambled eggs with cheddar, crisp bacon, home fries and untoasted rye bread; nova lox & eggs with whole wheat toast and hash brown; and eggs sunny side up with hash browns and rye toast. I have been a long time patron but recent experiences have been very disappointing. Ordered a full meal which was Okay-and asked for some bread. The server brought one small slice of rye- later discovered an extra charge of $1.50 for the slice of bread. When I paid my bill I was then notified about a few dollar surcharge for using credit card. This "nickel and dime" stuff is annoying -and not the way to contribute to customer loyalty and satisfaction. read more

To start, The food is delicious! The service is sooooooooooooooooo slow! My husband and I went Thursday morning and there was only one other table besides us. There were several staff all over the place. It took 25 minutes to get our beverages and 45 minutes to get our food! We actually had to get most of our food boxed to go because I was going to be late for work, I barely had time to enjoy my food.. we arrived at 9:45 and asked for boxes to take it to go and left at 11. Went there for St Patrick's day and had the Corned Beef and Cabbage. The Corned Beef was the same sliced Corned Beef that they put on there sandwiches. It was just stacked and Cabbage over the top to cover it so you cant see that the Corned Beef was sliced. Some of the potatoes were hard and some were mushy.The service was great as usual. Will never go there again for St Pattys day. read more
