First time and last time at Pico Barber Shop. Not sure what happened but, Danny the barber fell apart at the end. The haircut was going really well up to the point when Danny the barber slashed the back of my neck with a straight razor. When I addressed that he just cut me, he first ignored me, then when I again addressed what had just happened his response was to press his gloved finger into my wound and condescendingly say, "what do you want me to do, call my doctor so you can get some stitches?" Is this a reasonable way to treat a customer that has just been injured by an employee??? To Pico Barber Shop...A bad reputation in the community is the least of your worries if you continue to employ a person who blatantly disregards the safety of customers. I imagine a person like this will put your entire business in great liability. read more

I've been a loyal customer here since 2018. Since the days before they took appointments, where you'd just show up and wait your turn. Even after they became appointment only, there were plenty of days where they'd run behind, and I'd wait a couple minutes past my appointment time. No big deal. The haircuts have never been anything remarkable. Actually, they always just kinda turned out "fine". But the price is good, and the place is convenient to where I work. Well today it was my turn to be running behind, because a work call ran a little long. When I arrived, the place was completely empty, except for the dude cutting my hair. He was so unbelievably rude to me about being 10mins late. Like, was verbally aggressive with me. I sat in the chair for the next 30 minutes, and was so uncomfortable the entire time. I'm shaking as I'm writing this. This place truly lost a 6+ year loyal customer today. read more

COST: $35 (Buzz Cut) I had a good barber at Floyd's near me but he's gone MIA since COVID happened (I hope you're good dude)! I ended up Yelping for a place of course during the pandemic and lucked out with Danny and the boys from Pico Barber Shop. I've been going to their shop since last December and have felt safe and taken care of each time I go in for a haircut. The place is well sanitized, clean and most of all the barbers are incredibly friendly like they're your homies. I've only gotten a haircut from Danny but my other friends who I've brought in are perfectly happy with the other barbers at the shop. Amazing! Today was my second haircut at Pico barbers. I used to spend way too much at another franchise "barber shop" but I would never get a consistent cut. After round two at Pico barbers I found my home. I have had my hair cut by two different men and they both nailed it!! Great attention to detail and you leave feeling great. If your hair is medium length or longer, stay away! This Barbershop is all about buzz cuts and really short hairstyles. If your hair is nothing like those, go elsewhere. I wanted to keep the top of my hair long. The barber buzz cut too much and am now left with too much buzz cut on the sides. Their expertise seems to be using the clippers (e.g., buzz cuts), but they don't have the finesse when using scissors for longer hair. Oh, and if you're not getting a buzz cut, be prepared to pay the higher rate ($22) instead of the lower rate. read more

Thankful I found this place, only 1 block from my place! I've come twice now, once on a busy Sat afternoon, and another on a quieter Thurs morning. Waited less than 10 mins each time. Both Anthony and Dario are excellent--you can tell they're detail-oriented and make sure you're satisfied with your haircut. There's been some confusion here. For my part, I inadvertantly went to Pico's, rather than Pico's #2, both which are in Santa Monica. My barber was Anthony, or I might better say Anthony the Great! Wanting to prolong the shaved smooth sides and back of my two day old horseshoe flattop, I mistakenly went to the Pico's without any Yelp reviews, rather than that which is praised so often. I can now verify that BOTH Pico's are excellent. Anthony, my barber, was as talented a barber as I've seen in California, and a contender for an All=American crown. Not only did he shave my sides and back super smooth, he flattened out high places on my deck, took my sides higher and tighter, and overall was a super, regular guy. Give him a try! read more

I was visiting from South Florida and had trouble connecting with a good barbershop in Santa Monica that cuts "black man" hair. I needed a Caesar-style hair cut and my goatee shaped up. I am usually nervous about new barbers because a tape-up (or taper) is easy to get wrong, and you have to live with the results for 2+ weeks. I initially walked into Tel's but had a weird vibe from it, then got on the phone and found Pico Barber Shop next to Rae's. The place is almost hard to miss if you are walking, and doesn't look shady, which is a good thing. Note: My experience has been that the best barber's are in the least well kept places, but Pico Barbershop was pretty clean. My barber's name is Christian. Christian is the most polite barber I've ever met in my life. It took us both a few minutes of adjustment to find the right trimmer blade to bring my hair length down, but after that it was smooth sailing. He did a FANTASTIC job on my tape-up, and a great job on my goatee. He took extra care to do the job right, and was totally cool when my OCD eyes noticed areas that needed cleaning up. The price for shaving and cutting my hair was a surprising $25, but I knew that when I sat down. It was worth it. I tipped Christian and took his card. I can't vouch for everybody else in the shop, but Christian was excellent today. read more

Moved to santa monica about 3 months ago and have been struggling with finding the right barber that I can trust. I ran into a guy at my gym who had a really good line up and he mentioned that it was done at Pico Barber Shop. I stopped in without an appointment and sat with Lino (the owner). He was very friendly and asked what I was looking for. Not only did he check with me before fully doing my fade on the length, but he was also thorough with my cut. No patches, very smooth fade. Line up was just the way I like it. Just make sure to be as descriptive as possible with how you want your haircut and he'll deliver you the results. Great shop, Great owner. Everyone in the shop is very laid back and a good group of barbers. This is the only place I will go to get my haircut. read more

Great place. Friendly barbers, nice vibe, pretty much all the barbers are good. i used to go here every two weeks or so back when i was in LA for college. Love the straight razor cleanup at the end. I've been cut by each one on the time and they're all pretty solid. Dario took care of most of my recent cuts before i stopped going. Pretty small place and real relaxed vibe -- always have sports on the TV and they seem to be pretty big baseball fans. they have a pretty diverse set of regulars come in, and they all seem to love this place. read more
