a menu for a mexican restaurant

What a surprise visit! Their food was was exceeded my expectations. Great flavor and quality with reasonably priced.

Quesabirria Tacos. These were really delicious.

Pico De Gallo is a carry out Mexican restaurant in New Lenox that features counter service with about 6 tables to sit at. Unlike the city, which features an authentic Mexican restaurant like this one on every block, I'm guessing Pico De Gallo is a stand-out in this area because of the surrounding demographic. There is certainly nothing wrong with this spot. The menu is relatively conservative and features the standards - tacos, burritos, tortas, sopes and a few entrees - carne asada, quesabirria tacos, etc... My wife ordered the quesabirria tacos - which were served with consume - and also a side of rice. I ordered two chicken tacos, served "authentic style" with onions and cilantro. The food is freshly prepared, so there was a slight wait, but nothing to complain about. My wife's quesabirria tacos were loaded with pot roast and cheese, and the consume was not overly salty or greasy. They were definitely delicious. My chicken tacos were just okay. I work on/around 73rd and Cicero, so I've had my fair share of really good tacos. While there was nothing wrong with my tacos, they were just bland. Their hot sauce was good (not great), and I wound up using a whole container on my tacos to give them some flavor. I was really on the fence about giving Pico De Gallo 4 or 3 stars, but the decision for 3 stars was made after looking at our receipt. $35 dollars for our lunch was a little steep. My tacos were $5/ea and my wife's quesabirria tacos were $16. That didn't include rice or beans. Again, maybe I'm biased because of all the tacos spots I hit around work that offer a superior product for a third of the cost. I'm sure the owners of Pico De Gallo did their homework on where they were opining their restaurant, and the cost of their food is most definitely a result of what their market will support. In other words... the folks in New Lenox probably don't blink an eye at spending $5 dollars for a taco. Truth be told, I wouldn't have minded either if my chicken tacos were bigger and/or tastier.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Updated Review~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I wanted to updated this review as we have catered a small party using Pico De Gallo. The catering was top notch. Again, the service was awesome and the food fantastic. We ordered the chicken fajitas, flour tortillas, guacamole, chips and salsa. We had plenty of food and had many compliments. We will definitely cater again from Pico. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Previous Review~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This may be our new favorite restaurant! Upon arrival we were pleasantly greeted by the staff. They were very patient and informative as we asked our many questions. We ordered chicken fajitas, a king burrito, cheese quesadilla, Mexican potatoes, chips and salsa and two large drinks. Our bill total was $45. The food was plentiful and was delicious. The salsa we so good we ordered some to go. The restaurant was quite busy so I think the secret out!
My daughter and I went here for the first time as a lunch date. We both got the "authentic tacos" and guacamole/chips as an appetizer. Everything was freshly made. The guac and chips are delicious. For their lunch menu the portions were very large. The food and homemade sauces were very good! They're red hot sauce was unique it almost tasted like there was tamarind in it. The place is a bit on the small side and not conducive to "hanging out" it's more of a pick up order spot than an eat in.
Steak Tacos
Steak tacos and guacamole were really good the first time. The second time the steak seemed more like a pulled pork consistency than chopped chucks of steak.
Menu as of 6-10.
We've been there a few times now. Always good and prices are reasonable. Glad to see a good Mexican restaurant come to the area.
Friends! You have to stop in and have a meal at this very nice spot!…read more It has been in Mokena, IL for 2 years. We went early afternoon on a weekday, so there was no wait, and the place was almost empty. The water came in an adorable carafe, with 6 oz "shot glasses". I found it to be so cute! And it was just enough water for sipping. It was iced cold. I believe we were just thirst and drank it all, lol. Free to the table- House Chips and Salsa. Simple and straight to the point. Ok, to the good stuff! Starters/App: We ordered a "Salsa Flight". It is just what it sounds like, a flight of assorted salsas. There were 6. Great for sharing, not big portions. It ranged from sweet, smokey, fruity, savory, to spicy baby! Of course it came with tortilla chips. So, so good! We also ordered Birria Egg Rolls. Friends!!! Delightfully yummers! Crisp on the outside, cheesy and meaty inside. The cooks were creating magical bites for me this day. lol Very good bites. I ordered a Pina-Colada Margarita. This sip was DELICIOUSNESS. Omg! Like....fresh, and powerful, yet well balanced. TASTY SIPS FRIENDS! I ordered what was like a Taco/loaded steak potato with all the trimmings (cheese, steak pico, sour cream). That is what came on it. There were other option of meats. Because I was so focused, I don't even recall what my date ate. HA! But I will say that my potato was not the best. It was over and under cooked. You are probably wondering like "HOW IS THAT"? Well, the potato was not cooked all the way through(hard pieces), but it was burnt at the bottom of the potato (images to come). That was disappointing. The starters/apps were so tasty, I ended up not finishing the potato, but I was saddened that they served the potato knowing the shape it was in. The meat and cheese and such couldn't even hide it once you moved the toppings to the side. Now, don't let my unhappy potato stop you from checking this place out. I am looking forward to bring my family back, and a few friends. If off sips and chips alone, its a place to get familiar with. Finally had a chance, and I will return. As always, you don't have to take my word for it, go get you some!
Meh. Average suburban Mexican food…read more My mom had an appointment in the area so we stopped in for a quick bite, mostly to kill time. This restaurant was close, so it fit the bill. It was a weekday afternoon, so there weren't many patrons dining in when we arrived. The host greeted us warmly and chose a seat near the front window. I believe our waitress was also the bartender. She was friendly and attentive. I had the chicken tinga and steak tacos. My mom just had a single ground beef taco. The tacos were okay. The food was decent, but I can't say that it was memorable or something I'd want to eat again. It definitely wasn't authentic or anything close to what you'd be served in Mexico, Pilsen, or Back of the Yards. The restaurant was clean and cozy though. The service was also excellent, so that was a plus. Maybe stop in for a drink or the chips and guac instead of the food. The bill was about $32 plus tip ($10).
Checked out this Mexican restaurant that's pretty basic. Don Jose's is one of the many such places…read morein New Lenox. It has about what is expected which is margaritas along with burritos and tacos. Good enough. The prices are kind of high for being average as well as portions. Big restaurant with lots of room for groups. It's got a bar area along with the rest of it. There was more than enough space as there was hardly anyone in it though. Even with it being in the evening. We were the only ones at first then a few more came later. A few pretty good things here. It's about $11 for a margarita. Got the Prickly Pear and it was pretty good. They at least use strong tequila. It's about $16 for a burrito. We each got the Veggie Burrito, which is one of the few options without any meat. Comes with cheese and crema which I left off, but still had enough in it. There were beans, lettuce, and tomatoes and it came with beans and rice. For sure it's pretty okay for Americanized Mexican food. It's not authentic but it's still way better than Taco Bell junk. There's many other restaurants around here with the same kind of food at better prices meaning we aren't in a hurry to get back here soon.
When you win Best Taco in New Lenox 2025, you set the bar high--and Don Joses absolutely lived up…read moreto it. The interior is modern, festive, and inviting, with a lively bar and an open, clean layout. Right off the bat, we were treated to complimentary chips and salsa, and let me tell you--this might have been the highlight of the night. The salsa was bursting with flavor (hands down the best I've had at any Mexican restaurant), and the chips were clearly fresh, not just poured from a bag. For drinks, we tried the Santo Horchata and the Coconut Margarita. Both were strong, balanced, and refreshing--no watered-down cocktails here. We ordered a spread of dishes to really test the menu: Tortilla Soup, a Chicken Burrito Bowl, and five different tacos--Al Pastor, Crispy Pork Belly, Shrimp & Chorizo, Tajin & Agave Chicken, and Carne Asada. * The Tortilla Soup was immaculate--rich, flavorful, and carrying just the right kick of spice. * The Chicken Burrito Bowl was generous and far superior in quality compared to chain restaurants trying to do the same thing. * And the tacos? Worth the hype. Here's how I'd rank them: 1. Crispy Pork Belly - an unexpected standout, tender and packed with flavor, elevated even more by the sauce. 2. Tajin & Agave Chicken - no wonder this one won Best Taco. 3. Shrimp & Chorizo - unique and hearty. 4. Carne Asada - solid and flavorful. 5. Al Pastor - tasty, but outshined by the others. All in all, Don Joses is easily the best Mexican restaurant we've had in New Lenox. From the atmosphere and service to the unforgettable chips & salsa, strong drinks, and outstanding food, this spot is a 10/10 must-try.
