The Hubster and I went here tonight for our wedding anniversary dinner. We were greeted with two glasses of champagne, and the evening just got better from there. It took us an hour to get there but the drive was WELL WORTH IT. In fact, this is one of the best dinners I have EVER had. Everything was amazing, but the mushroom salad and homemade ice cream were the bee's knees. It's farm to table, so everything is SUPER fresh. An astounding surprise discovery after being turned away at Full of Life for a restroom snafu; our first trip to to Pico was immediately one of the best meals we've had here on the Central Coast. A combination wine store and restaurant a la Foremost Wine Co in San Luis Obispo, Pico's deceptively simple menu offered some delicious choices. From the crispy boudin appetizer that was basically the best hush puppy we have tasted outside of New Orleans to the chef's own style beef tartare every dish was just as delicious as the last. The rabbit sausage pasta and and the scallop dinners were amazing and the chef (Drew) even came out to greet everybody over the course of the meal and to explain his desserts. The staff and service were delightful and the wine choices were amazing - particularly their ability to serve such wines such as a 1976 R. Strong Cabernet by the glass using a Coravin. A superlative addition to the Central Coast food scene and another great treat worth the drive to Los Alamos, we will be back often. Keep up the great work Pico! read more

Amazing experience, genuine hospitality and incredible food! These folks have it right!

First off the food was ok, but pricey for sure. We were there on Tuesdays half off. Our service was good, but I will rate this resturant very low for overcharging us on tip. A party of 6 was considered a large group and we were told it would be 20% for the tip. Ok no problem, but then when I looked at the bill we were charged over 20.00 each on a 75.60 bill. In my book that is more than 20% and most restaurants consider parties of 8 or more a large group and when they say 20% they don't charge 25 or 30%. I wonder if the server got the full amount. Anyway would not go back much better places to eat for better prices. read more

Our second visit was just as wonderful as the first. Of particular note were the canneloni and the oxtail ragu. We shared first and second courses with delicious ice cream for dessert. We putchased a bottle of Brandner wine so the corkage was waived on the bottle of red we brought. This restaurant is amazing! Definitely worth a visit to Los Alamos, the town is small and quaint but with a huge amount of character and great food and wine. We had a selection of starters "uno", the sashimi was unbelievable! We then went on to enjoy lamb, oxtail and scallops, truly the food was delicious. The chef is extremely talented and came out to our table to talk about the meal and check on our experience. He surprised us with some wasabi icecream, sounds so crazy but was insanely yummy! We were driving down the 101 and decided to check out this quaint little town. We were pleasantly surprised by this delightful gem of a restaurant. It has an impressive wine list including lots of international wine which was a surprise in this winecountry area. The rabbit Ragout pasta was delicious. But my wife's ribeye steak was the best. We also liked the local cheeses for an appetizer. . We didn't get a chance to try the desserts because we just were too full. But we will be back. read more

I stopped here with my daughter on our way from SF to LA. This was truly one of the best meals I've ever had! Everything is house-made with loving care and attention. Not a fan of this place. It came highly recommended and disappointed just like their portion sizes. I got a ribeye and after waiting 2 hours for it to finally come out, it was barely an appetizer. Sorry but charging 30+ dollars for 6 small medallions of ribeye is ridiculous. Essentially it was 5 dollars per medallion. Make sure to fill up before or have plans after cuz you wont leave satisfied. read more

Pico is the loveliest way to spend an evening. The ambiance is warm and home-like - to dine outside adjacent to the garden and chicken coop is like dining in the back yard of a friend's dreamy farmhouse. The food was excellent - plates can be shared but aren't tiny. The pork belly and grilled peaches were out of this world. The service was terrific. The chef came around to say hello and when I got chilly towards the end of our meal, they happily moved us inside (and gave me a blanket to use from their adorable general store!) I highly recommend a visit to Pico and a night or two in quaint Los Alamos. read more

Food is ok, atmosphere very nice! Trying to be fancy but falling a tad short. Main reason for the 2 rating, and BEWARE...if you have 6 or more people in your party, they automatically add the 20% tip, but don't tell you, so most of our party of 9, double tipped. Personally, honestly goes a long way with me. Service deserved a 20% tip, not 40%!! When I told our waiter this, he claimed to have told 'one' person in our group, who claims to have not heard. This place was not too busy for a Friday night, I think I know why! Need I say, we won't be back. read more

As our late night dinner was winding down near closing time several weeks ago, Chef Drew Terp began visiting with diners as is his custom. We were dining at the bar that evening as he stopped by to chat and gather feedback about our meal. We had little to criticize as our meal was superb. We had split our favorite starter, the mushroom salad with bacon and arugula. It was delicious as usual. I ordered my favorite entrée, halibut "en papillote " with smoked tomatoes. My wife preferred a light meal of grilled cheese and tomato soup. As local Los Alamos residents we have dined here many times. It was an excellent meal consistent with our former visits. We asked Chef Drew as to how we might make an upcoming visit with dear friends an extra special dining experience at Pico. He described his intention to begin offering Omakase style dinners and extended an invitation to the four of us to be his inaugural diners. This 7 course, "I'll leave it up to you, chef" dinner was more experience than meal. After a warm welcome by general manager Jay Brenneman we were led to our mezzanine table overlooking the main floor and bar. Jay laid out the evening that was about to unfold over the next few hours. Our evening's menu would be revealed to us only after the last of 7 courses had been enjoyed, each step a surprise! We started with an apple daikon slaw followed by confit scallop with citrus, patron peppers, yellowtail with potato , kabocha squash with yuzu kosho, then a smoked and aged bacon strip wrapped around fresh greens plate, ending with clams in the shell with cavatelli. Each dish was expertly presented with attention to the fine details. Two shared desserts finished the meal. The homemade ice-cream options were inventive and did not disappoint. Pico's wine selection is extensive. We opted for the Lumen Grenache, 2014 made from local Martian Vineyard (Los Alamos) and Camp 4 (Los Olivos) fruit. We found it to be a very delicate Granache that paired well with our wide variety of dishes and was very fairly priced. At the end of the evening, our personal menus were delivered by Chef Drew as he recapped the meal. We had unknowingly maintained a conversation with him by way of our response to each dish as it was delivered by Jay, and by Chef Drew's dissection of our returned, mostly empty plates. He explained how he responded 'on the fly' to feedback, both verbal and implied, as our evening unfolded. The only plates to return to the kitchen not completely cleaned were the patron peppers. They were very hot for my taste, but certainly would have been savored by others. Of course, that is part of the excitement and roulette you play with patron peppers, a fitting metaphor for the evening. Os mementos de Padrón, uno pecan e outs non, "Padrón peppers, some are hot, some are not!" Chef Drew is an enthusiastic story teller, be sure and ask him about the back story and inspiration for his Grampa's whiskey ice cream, my favorite. The dulce de leche ice cream was also a table favorite. This Omakase dinner was reasonably priced at $65 per person plus beverages and deserts. We have grown accustomed to many excellent dining experiences here in Los Alamos. Pico and the Chef Drew Terp team certainly kept pace and have distinguished themselves with this unique dining experience. read more

The service was excellent. The food was very good, very tasty and presented beautifully. I would only have desired my duck to have been cooked a little longer to have rendered more of the fat from it. I realize this is a personal taste issue. I do render more of the fat when I cook it at home. Should I order it there again, I will request it prepared that way. Otherwise, the tastes were delicious. Everything had a nice, clean, freshness about it. They present a very well thought out wine selection. I applaud their local sourcing. read more

Very nice ambiance, excellent food and service! I tried the lamb and ratatouille which was amazing. My wife had the rib eye with sweet potato pace' and brussel sprouts which was all very good. We both had sweet potato soup and loved it. Wonderful mix of flavor and texture. All dishes were very nicely presented. The waiter was attentive, knowledgeable, and fun. He answered questions about the dishes in detail and offered great wine suggestions. They have a wonderful selection of wines. Later, the chef visited each table and talked with guests. It was amazing to learn about the prep involved in making the dishes. My ratatouille was an unusual preparation using smoked vegetables. All in all, a great evening. We'll be back! read more

My husband and I brought a couple of friends who were in town to Pico on a Friday night. We made a reservation ( I would suggest doing) and sat at a great table on the balcony. The atmosphere was relaxed and open, even though is was full, the noise was not a problem. There were some children there and it wasn't an issue - I am not sure its a great place to bring kids, though. Our server was fantastic; as was the rest of the staff. We decided to share everything we ordered which worked out great. We got pretty close to trying everything on the menu. For starters the grilled steak skewers and the 4 cheese plate were both perfect, the lamb and kombucha squash was the favorite main course. The corn soup was creamy with bacon definitely a favorite and the wintergreen salad was delicious but hearty. If you are vegetarian and looking for something to fill you up the Wintergreens Salad will do it! (We will be back to try the gnocchi and squash blossoms since they were out.) Desserts were ALL awesome - the homemade ice creams were delicious, my favorite was the chocolate chip cookies and mint ice-cream! The wine list is fantastic with local wines. The general store had unique merchentise and a good range in price points, there was not one thing I did not want to buy! I look forward to going back to Pico again as the everything was wonderful! read more

What a gem! The chef has an inventive menu and each dish is delicious and beautifully presented. The wine list was not only long, it had good descriptions of each type of wine. This made ordering easier. Don't miss the corn soup, tomato soup (best I've had), or the squash blossom ratatouille. Everyone is knowledgeable, happy, and helpful. Good service, nice casual setting, nice people. Very small portions, expect to get all 4 courses and desert for a good dinner, $60/person without alcohol. Food was good, meat tartar was great reminiscent of Parisian restaurants, scallops were excellent, olive oil cake with tarragon ice cream was out of this world. The reason for my 3 stars is the price, I believe in comparison to same level central coast restaurants the price is steep for the amount of food you get. This is a stand out restaurant in the middle of nowhere. The atmosphere is really fantastic. The menu is interesting and elevated. I have it 4 stars instead of 5 because there are a few small things the owners could do to make it an improved and stellar experience. Our waitress had clearly tasted all of the wines but did not know how to converse about them or steer us in a specific direction. When I said that I liked a more buttery Chardonnay, she said that none of the wines on the by the glass list were buttery but didn't know how to guide me to something else. My husband said he wanted a big, fruit forward red. She was quite vague about the options and said she couldn't remember if she liked the Cabernet. There is a huge retail wine selection here. The wait staff should be better versed. Our mains were fabulous (scallops and short rib). The starters were good. Halibut was slightly over cooked and needed a bit more sauce. This is a restaurant that should pull many from the Los Olivos area and even further. It is on the cusp of being great. read more

I wish the waitress would have told us about the kids grilled cheese as my grand daughter who is nine could not eat the cheese sandwich that was on the menu. The food was great, but the owner and Sean were not very friendly and did not male us feel welcome. I probably won't go back for that reason. When you ask what your baby's name is, you should at least answer. read more
