We were told that our order would come in "30 to 40 minutes," but in fact we got food after waiting for over an hour -- and this was only after phoning Pico in the middle to ask for an update. Strike one. The tastes are all wrong. We got a black bean soup, two breakfast burritos, a shrimp taco and maybe some other stuff. The salsas were borderline disgusting. The burrito that I ate was one of the worst in memory. There were no high points. Strike two, and that's a big strike two. The food wasn't especially cheap. Strike three. I love when you just stumble across a gem like this and your expectations are blown away... I haven't had any of the big entrees yet because the tacos and small plates are just so good. The nachos (get brisket on them) are quite possibly the best I've ever had. I probably eat Mexican food like 3 times a week. I rarely get frozen margaritas, because they are usually awful--they are either too sweet or too tart, the tequila sucks, the mix is cheap etc. But it was a hot day so I tried one here, and it was THE best I've ever had....by a wide margin, in fact. Nothing comes close. I inquired and learned that the mix they use is made in house and they also use blue agave for it. Awesome. I was getting brain freezes because I wanted to crush them so fast. LOL at the reviewer who claimed food poisoning from Pico. One trip here and you will see that is highly unlikely. This restaurant is super clean and everything is fresh as hell and made very thoughtfully. This place seriously rocks. Awesome spot to hit after a day at the beach. Three of us came to PICO on a Thursday night on a whim. I've been here before, but for the two other people I was with, it was their first time. We got seated right away and the hostess was really nice. The vibe in there is a really cute casual Mexican vibe with hanging lights and cozy booths and a spacious dinning room in the back. The cocktails are AMAZING. I had a new cocktail that they started making, I don't remember the name, but it was a frozen drink--delicioussss!! We ordered chips and guacamole and the corn we an appetizer. The guac was great, tasted so fresh, I just didn't like how they kept such big chunks of avocado in it. The corn was excellent, they put some type of spices on it--out of this world! For my entree I got the steak tacos that were a special for the night. The tacos came with rice, beans, and cole slaw on the side. They tasted really good, and was a different choice than the usually burrito I get when I go out for Mexican. Nice little Mexican joint on 129th at RB. Honestly, I want to give this place a 4 but it just seems like something is missing. The restaurant is cute, lots of seating, friendly service, the menu is clear and well written and they serve a good portion of food. But the menu just seems limited to me and I feel like a lot of the items were repeat. While portions are a good size, its a little pricey for Mexican food, it seems kinda fusion-y which is fine but not all that flavorful. I tried the shrimp emapanadas, and they were alright. I was not a fan od the mango cooli and the shrimp bits were kinda small, the flaky pastry didn't do it for me but it was edible. I've also had a margarita, which was generous in it's portions. Recently, I went and had a LA veggie burrito. The burrito itself was good on the inside, they were a bit skimpy with the filling, and the tortilla was abdudant. The black beans and rice was yummy, no complaints there. I was not a fan of the guacamole whatsoever, seemed bland. Overall, I would probably go back again just because I would like to try other items. The menu is very limited for non-meat eaters. My family and I went to Pico yesterday for lunch. We read the buzz for this place and we all left totally agreeing - this place is awesome. Started out with tortilla chips with delicious salsa and amazing guacamole. I love guacamole and this was among the best. Delicious, with chunks of fresh avocado and the perfect amount of cilantro. We also chose a nacho order for a starter with retried beans, cheese and salsa. Excellent, and was enough for 6 to share with the tortilla and salsa/guacamole. The drinks were all tasty - from the Bloody Mary's to the frozen margaritas and sodas. Water was served and replenished throughout the meal. For mains, we ordered from the brunch and regular menu. I had the L.A. Burrito with the brisket. The dish includes a nice portion of rice, black beans, salsa and guacamole. The burrito was delicious and everything on the plate was cooked and seasoned very nicely. Other orders at my table included the burrito with carnitas, the hash with brisket, breakfast burrito, and burgers, one of which came from the brunch menu with an egg. No one was disappointed. For dessert, we ordered two of the bread puddings and a tres leches. The bread pudding was made with croissants which made it rich and buttery, and topped with a scoop of iced cream. The tres leches was delicious and moist. The 6 of us shared these and enjoyed every bite. I'm already looking forward to my next visit. The atmosphere was very relaxed and was very well decorated. Our waitress couldn't have been nicer, and helped us decide on some of our choices and gave great descriptions of the drinks. The bar staff also came by and explained why certain drinks were served in the manner they were bottled, and also asked us how we were enjoying our meal. Great group of people. I used to love this place. However, it has been very downhill since they first opened up. Certain foods have lost its flavor, such as different perhaps cheaper recipes. They have become less customer friendly. I have been eating and drinking here on many occasions and never received a buy back or any respect as a frequent customer. That's fine, but when I call ahead of time and ask for a delivery at a specific time and it's way, and I mean way off target, and I express my dissatisfaction, you get upset with me? I went to Pico tonight (Friday, 1/21/21). The place was packed. We had 7pm reservations and by the time we found a spot to park, we walked in at 7:10 to learn our table had been given away. This post is to compliment the two greeters at the door. Mendy and Luisa went above and beyond to get us a table as soon as they could. They were sweet, friendly, pleasant and accommodating! And very apologetic! It's people like Luisa and Mendy who make a business not only survive but thrive during these crazy times. We couldn't be happier with the service they provided! 4.5 stars... My wife and I came here this past weekend and were very happy with our choice. Pico is only a couple blocks from the beach and is far enough down on the island where the beach isn't nearly as packed as some of the other areas. The restaurant is on a stretch with many other businesses so it's almost like a small cute little mini town. The restaurant has a great layout and modern decor with a large bar and booths in the front and a decent sized dining room in the back. Prices are a tad high for the area in my opinion but are on par with the quality for what you're getting. We each got one of their special cocktails based on their frozen margaritas ($9 ea) and loved them. The guacamole and chips ($8) was amazing, the chips were made in-house and had great seasoning on them and the guac was was super creamy and full of flavor. For an entree I got the burrito with brisket ($13) which comes with a side of rice and beans as well as some pico del gallo and guac. The burrito was super simple with just the meat, refried beans, and cheese but the meat was perfectly tender and flavorful and the tortilla was perfectly grilled where you had a little crispness on two sides. The portion size was perfect to completely fill me up. What they do with their black beans is pretty unique as I'm pretty sure I tasted curry, either way they were full of flavor and nor nearly as boring as beans typically come with dishes like this. The rice was a tad dry but otherwise had great flavor as well. My wife had three types of the tacos and was equally happy with her dish. Next time we're in the area there's no doubt we'll be back here for round 2. read more

So my bff took me to this place for dinner because we loveeeeee Mexican food. The ambiance reminded me of a tavern, very homey and comfy with lots of Mexican accents. Our waitress Kaitlin (sorry, hope I spelt that right) was very friendly and attentive. She gave us very great suggestions and provided excellent service. Now the fun stuff...my food. I had the Jumbo Lump Crab Enchiladas! Omgeee delish...best I've ever had. Perfectly seasoned and stuffed with just the right amount of crab meat. It was served with rice and beans, guacamole & salsa. #Yummers. I also had the corn on a cob ( Elote) as an appetizer, no words it was that good. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't utterly obsessed with this place. Mexican is my favorite cuisine of all, and Pico serves it, top notch. Their guacamole has just the right amount of lime and spice, their tortillas are fresh and their seasonal vegetarian burritos are lovely. Their piece de resistance is their mexican croissant bread pudding. My golly, is that thing good. The only thing I ever regret when leaving Pico's is not being able to order more. Pico is a great Mexican place in Rockaway. I order for delivery most of the time when eating Pico. When I order, I usually get the Brisket Tacos. They have great flavor and are easy to hold, but it is so messy (the Brisket sauce gets all over your hands). The Chili Seasoned Fries have good texture, but they have NO seasoning. They are basic fries with salt. Overall, a great Mexican place with few flaws. read more

Was just here last sunday for some football. Let me say this place has made a complete turn around. Had some honey-chipotle wings and steak tacos. The wings were out of this world. There was actually real honey on the wings that left your fingers sticky. The tacos were pretty damn good as well. Nice specials for happy hour and football. I will be back ! I've been here twice. Once during lunch and another time during the evening for dinner. My first experience was great as the restaurant was less crowded then my second visit. My second visit was horrid. The hostess was extremely rude. After seeking parking in the area for more than 40 minutes my girlfriend and I weren't even greeted or welcomed. We were then brought to a rear area of the restaurant and I had asked if there was a booth available or coming up soon. ....I got a solid "no" and then was pointed to where we were recommend to sit. I moved to a different location and then was asked to move because other guests had reservations. The hostess AGAIN rudely says you have to have a reservation. As if it were a reservation only restaurant. I then asked where we could sit and got no answer. It resulted in us just hopping on the bar. 20 minutes go by and we weren't had a menu or greeted by some one to take our orders. I had to ask the bartenders for these. Having had this terrible experience the second time around I wouldn't recommend this place for dinner. It's all apparent here - employees at the bar are spread thin, delayed food and drinks, and a rude and impolite host is something that just really bummed me out about this place. read more

Went to Riis Park for the first time and did so because of the increasing chatter on their food scene. We landed at Pico yesterday around 430PM and pretty glad we did. It was a weekday and pretty early in the night so we were the only ones there but during our sitting, 5-6 parties joined in afterwards. We entertained their happy hour and in order to do so we had to sit at the bar. The bartender/waiter that served us was very pleasant and knowledgeable which is always a good thing. We ordered mostly from their happy hour menu. We started off with two margaritas (one on the rocks and the other frozen with sangria floater). The margarita on the rocks was superb and even better because he made it from scratch. We ordered three apps to share: elote, nachos with brisket and shrimp empanadas. All of the apps were amazing. I was truly blown away because I did not expect such a place so far from the city to serve such yummy plates. For entrees, we shared 4 tacos: fish (mahi mahi), rib eye, pastrami and chorizo. The absolute best was their pastrami. It was cut into cubes and served with a cheese and slaw. The least favorite was the fish and rib eye. They were both bland in terms of taste compared to the other tacos I had. Lastly, we had two of their desserts: tres leche and bread pudding. I can't believe I'm about to write this but THEY HAVE THE BEST TRES LECHE I'VE TASTED! The pudding was pretty good as well but I've had better. If you come here and you're not very hungry, please order the tres leche! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE. You will not regret it and you'll want to hunt me down just to say thank you =) I will definitely come back here! read more

What a find. My wife and I were looking for a quick bite so we walked into Pico to tease our taste buds with some Mexican food. Boy it turned out be a fantastic decision. The service was great! We had to get in and out in 40 mins so the waiter, Jeremy hauled a$$ to get our order in and we were out in 30 mins. Additionally, his attitude towards customers, including myself, was great. The food was awesome as well. We had the quesadillas, the nachos and the brisket tacos. All were fantastic! Apparently, they marinate the brisket for 10 hours so it is super flavorful and soft. This place was awesome!! Great food and great service. I ordered the brisket enchilada and it was delicious. The only thing I didn't like was the beans that came with the rice. It had a weird seasoning that I was not liking at all. For appetizers we got shrimp empanadas which were delicious and two people at the table got the corn which they said was awesome. And of course we got chips and guac which was by far amazing. The guac had chunks in it and we all couldn't stop eating it. For a drink I got a frozen margarita which was delish and you could also get it with a sangria floater on top. All in all a good place to go with a group on a Saturday night. My bf had the chicken tacos and I had the smoked brisket Carnes Ahumadas. It was amazing. The rice and beans were yummy and had just the right amount of kick. Guacamole was out of this world as was the tomato salsa. Tequila drinks were top notch. Fire's Out is my new favorite drink... I have many more in my future. What a great lunch special. 2 tacos for $10.00. Fresh, full of taste and a full tummy.

Food was delicious. Space is lovely. The wait staff was low-key cool. Too busy to give us excellent attention but not rushed or flummoxed. Our food was delivered by a 2nd waiter and then we were checked on and cashed out with the 2nd waiter to maybe there was a change in staff while we were there. We had the lunch special 2 tacos + rice + bean + slaw for $10. The filling in those two tacos would easily have filled 4 tacos at many restaurants. The sides were terrific and we were a bit bummed to be too full to finish. I highly recommend and would go back though I don't generally find myself in that area. read more

My wife and I decide to explore the Rockaways for the first time. When we looked for a place to eat, Pico's jumped out at us from yelp at 4.5 stars, Mexican food. We arrived around 2p and noticed how was busy it on a Saturday afternoon in Feb, another good sign. Inside it has lovely atmosphere, we were warmly greeted and seated. Our waiter recommended either the lunch special - 2 tacos, coleslaw, beans and rice, or the brunch. We had the lunch special. My wife had two smoked brisket tacos, I chose one shrimp and one mahi mahi taco. Everything was excellent, especially the coleslaw. The lunch special was just the right serving size too. We shared a Bloody Mary which also was perfection. Last minute, we decided to ask about desert-something we usually skip, but the cinnamon bread pudding and the tres leche cake were exquisite. Best Resturant? Absolutely. On a whim we came, but definitely we plan to return. read more
