We really enjoyed the Strawberry Rhubarb pie. It was delicious. The chocolate pie was pretty good. Can't wait to try more!

The Super-Sexy Boyfriend and I were on our way to Glen Rose, Tx to visit Fossil Rim wildlife park, and he mentioned that there was a fabulous pair of pie-peddling ladies who were virtually famous in those parts for making the most delectable pies one has ever tasted. Say no more, SSB. On the grand scale of pie vs. cake, THIS chick is SQUARELY on the pie side. I quickly whipped the car off the highway, aiming for the historic downtown pie palace, much like a hungry Steve McQueen in Bullitt. There were tires squealing. There was excessive gear-shifting. There...was...okay, there was none of that. The location is right in the middle of a little shopping area, situated in a square that is quite easy to find (see: Pies Today sign) and also happens to house an actual dinosaur footprint built into the base of an adorable gazebo. Don't ask questions. Just get there, pronto, before they run out of pie. Our first go-round, SSB got the buttermilk pie, and I went for the chocolate. The buttermilk pie was, HANDS DOWN, the best buttermilk pie I have ever had. Delicious, cold, custardy innards, and a crisp, caramelized top akin to creme brulee. Un. Believable. Seriously. My chocolate pie was topped with a dome of meringue so light and fluffy it would make your grandmother weep. The chocolate pudding part was quite sweet, and I will admit to not being a particular fan of chocolate in general, but I HAD to try it. The pie was delicious, don't get me wrong, BUT... ...did you see that I said our FIRST go-round? Yeahhhhh. We went back on our way out of town for more. NO SHAME. The second time, SSB got a fantastic slice of pecan pie, and I chose the mother of all pies, the blackberry. They burst in my mouth. This time I got it a la mode, and it was a warm and cool, melty, gooey, fruity plate of H-E-A-V-E-N. Our bill for two people was approximately $10. The lovely ladies working the floor of the cafe were super-friendly, helpful, and an absolute delight to speak to. We talked to no less than THREE employees in the short time we visited, and each was a complete doll to meet and converse with. Do yourself a favor and get out there now. You can thank me later. The pie was so good!!! We went here after eating at the Green Pickle down the street. We went in and our son got the chocolate cream pie and my husband and I shared the coconut cream pie. This was some of the best pie I have ever had. Even though we were stuffed at that point we still ordered another slice and got the every berry al a mode. With so many different types of berries I wasn't sure what to expect. They didn't over power each other and you could taste each one. I would highly recommend a stop here. read more

Very average pie. It did smell a bit funny in the shop. There were a few high school girls working there and they were not wearing masks and touched the crust of our pie with their bare hands. The girl checking us out wasn't very nice either. Overall too unwelcoming, unsanitary, and overpriced for the average pie. read more

My mother was a great pie baker and I'm not too shabby myself, so I tend to be stingy with the compliments. The four of us ordered several selections and shared so we could try more. Here are the results of our taste test: - Strawberry-Rhubarb heated with ice cream was the winner. - Coconut caramel (an ice cream pie) was a close, really close second. - Coconut cream was a distant third. Not very coconutty to the point of being bland. - Buttermilk was dead last - too eggy for our tastes but the texture was wonderful. Maybe we just aren't fans of buttermilk pie in general. Will be back soon to try chocolate, pecan, mixed berry, cherry, and blueberry -- oh and more of the Strawberry-Rhubarb and Coconut caramel. Excellent coffee they made fresh when we ordered it. The ladies are lovely. They greeted us as we entered and gave us a "tour" of the pie cases then visited with us at the table. Very good customer service. read more

How this Processed Forest Product Crust got any votes from Texas Country Reporter viewers is beyond me. Filling was tart and spilled its guts all over the plates. When we stopped by this place, there were only few pies available. My first impression was "ugly pies". Then we asked them if they have Dutch Apple pies, and it turned out the owner/baker did not even know that the Dutch Apple and Apple pies are different, which was a big warning sign to me. We ordered buttermilk and lime. The buttermilk pie is overly sweet (except for sugar, there was really no other flavors in the pie) and crust was chewy, hard, and tasteless. The lime pie was a bit better, but still nothing to write home about and definitely not the quality from a "pie shop". My husband commented that the Marie Callender's frozen pies have better crusts. On the same note, my kids and I think the pre-made frozen pie crust from grocery store is much better than the crust from this shop. On top of the disappointment of the pies, the service was just OK. what a great little place! we almost didn't make it and just so happened to make some time for it saturday evening and i am so glad that we did because they are closed on sunday and that was when we were leaving glen rose. first off, i have to compliment them on their logo and the fact that their dishes are different colors. call me superficial but i do love me some good design and attention to detail. it is especially nice when good design is for something so yummy. and that was definitely the case at pie peddliers. we were greeted as soon as we walked in by a very friendly lady who gave us a quick introduction to the pies. we ended up ordering our usual pie favorites-- my husband ordered the key lime pie and i ordered the apple pie a'la mode. both were delicious. my only critique of the pie would have been that i would have liked for my pie to be a little warmer but it could have had something to do with it being the end of the day and also the fact that they wouldn't want the ice cream running off of the plate. my husband's key lime pie was wonderful. the crust was crumbly goodness and the key lime wasn't overpowering. it was the perfect combination of tart and creamy sweetness. my husband said that he liked mine better than his and i liked his better than mine. ;p i ordered a cup of coffee and, even though it was close to closing time, they made me a fresh pot and were on top of making sure i had enough. the coffee was good drip coffee which i appreciate. the lady who waited on us was super nice and cheery. our only complaint about the service was my husband asked for a glass of iced water and never got it. he did end up ordering a coke which came out icy cold in a bottle. i also noticed others drinking dublin dr. pepper out of bottles. love when little places like that serve soda out of the bottle. feels like such a treat! sad sad that this place isn't in houston. on the way out, we almost ordered a slice of all berry pie since they were closed the next day and my husband wanted to try it but he said pie peddlers would be one of the reasons we would try and drive through glen rose on the way back home. yay! read more

This is a fun little spot for a sweet treat. The best part is the outdoor seating area. This would be a good place to have a piece of pie and Dublin soda, but they don't seem to have much else that would go along with pie (ice cream, whipped cream, coffee, tea). The guests wore masks, but none of the employees were wearing them. The actual taste of the pie was average. The crust was above average and looked pretty, but it's nothing I would make point to tell a friend about. If there were one service item I would change, it would be making employees mask up and the one menu change would be to add a hot/warm non sweet drink besides plain water. Overall, I don't regret the stop but probably won't be going back until COVID is over. read more

Me and my family arrived in Glen Rose and we immediately headed for the famous Pie Peddlers we have heard so much about. The second we stepped in the door, the sweet aroma of freshly baked apple pie rushed through our nostrils. I knew then, this was going to be a wonderful experience. This place certainly lived up to its expectations. The great ambiance and cute pie paraphernalia set the perfect setting for ingesting SCRUMPTIOUS pie!! The waiters, two young handsome men, greeted us with welcoming smiles and showed us their delicious selection of pies in their case. By far the best service I've ever had in any restaurant. Our waiter, Westen, bless his heart, the sweetest young man I've ever met, checked on us every second, refilling our coffees, just an outstanding individual. I had the buttermilk, a hometown favorite, and they hit it right on the nail. I would compare it to a creamy crem brulet. Every bite was filled with addicting sweet and salty goodness. I had previously tried other pie in Glen Rose, at the Hammond's Barbecue, and although it was tasty, it did not compare to the art that is Pie Peddler's pie. An accurate rating for this sweet oasis should be 3.14 ;) but I just have to give it a 5! A place a definitely recommend and will definitely be returning to. read more

Stayed in town for a women's retreat. The waitress was rude, and pie wasn't all that great.

Just had a suprising experience at the Pie Peddlers. My Mom ordered pecan pie, and her piece was burned. She wasn't going to say anything, but couldn't eat it, so mentioned it to the server. She is a local Texan, who grew up on pecan pie, and is not a picky person. In fact, that server told the owner/pie maker, who came over and proceeded to chew her out, saying, all of our pies are like that one, and this is how we cook our pies, and people buy a lot of them. Wow, no apology, no admitting that the pie was obviously burned, just acted insulted, with an attitude of "I don't need your business or opinion." I am shocked, and embarassed, as I happen to be a local. We don't know the owners, nor are we competitors, we just know we will never be back. We are all human, and just the act of making it right would have been all that was required. There was no need to be rude, and hostile to a very nice lady, who is- you guessed it- sweeter than a slice of pecan pie...just not from here, thank you very much! read more

Not for us. Chocolate pie was runny and grainy. Lil' and Fella thought it was inedible. I ate a piece but thought it was too sweet and the texture wasn't my preference. Very light chocolate taste. The pies look pretty. We only tasted the chocolate. read more

My Sister really enjoyed their apple pie - the apples were fresh and nicely spiced and it was not overly sweet. I got the individual chocolate cream and I was underwhelmed - the whipped cream topping was obviously from out of a can, the chocolate filling was just like regular pudding and the crust was very tough and chewy without much taste. Their setup is awkward, too...you had to wait to be seated and they then walk you by 2 tiny cases of pies and take your order in the middle of the floor and then, even though their shop was fairly empty, it took 15 minutes for them to bring the pies to the table. Might stop back in for another try if we are in the immediate area again, but won't go out of our way for another visit. Not sure how it was voted the Best Pie in Texas. read more

I had two slices. Coconut Creme and Buttermilk. They were both good, but I would've preferred more "stuff" and less meringue on the coconut creme. I also felt like the soft drinks should've been a bit colder. I'm not familiar with how places like this are run, but I was a bit surprised to hear "some of the pies are still frozen and not available yet today." It may not be the case, but that at least IMPLIES that all the pies aren't made on site. *dunno* I LIKED it. But, I doubt I'd go out of my way again for a slice or two of pie. WORST PIE EVER! Our motorcycle group made a special trip back to glen rose to this place because the first time we saw it we had just eaten lunch and couldn't eat another thing. The coconut creme pie was AWFUL, gritty and not cooked thoroughly because it was slopping over the crust when served. Other pies tasted that day were the Chocolate which was said to be okay, but the crust was chewy and awful. The apple was given a rating of "so-so", and the buttermilk was too sweet. This was a totally disappointing waste of time and we all felt cheated! If your "claim to fame" is pie, you'd better be darned sure you know what you're doing, and it's obvious this place DOES NOT! Not only was the pie bad but they had very little variety! Again, if you're going to be all about pie, BE ALL ABOUT PIE! And as a side note, the owners may want to consider getting some sort of soda machine, charging $2 for a little 8.5 oz bottle of coke is RIDICULOUS! Don't waste your time, we certainly won't again. read more

My wife and daughters tried the blueberry and pecan pie. They said that pie was okay not great. The staff was friendly and enjoyed the small town hole in the wall style place. I went next door and got ice cream from the soda shop and it was delicious. I would recommend at least give it a try. Cost $13 for two pieces of pie and two scoops of ice cream. read more

After I detoxed from eating the greasy sausage at the nearby Hammond's BBQ in Glen Rose (took a day) I heading to Pie Peddlers for some pie. They offer one thing: freshly made pie by the slice (or whole) in a small shop on the town square. Most of the selections had been sold by the time I arrived (early afternoon). But I did manage to snag one of the last slivers of peach pie. It was made with this season's Texas peaches and was very fresh. It was not unlike a French tartine though - kind of flat and not 'thick.' I've had better pie before (thanks mom) but it's worth checking out if you visit Glen Rose. read more

Coconut caramel pie...it was typical July weather in the hill country so ice box pie was just what we needed! Byron and I had coffee and split a piece of coconut caramel pie. Heard about this place on Texas Country Reporter and had to make a trip to Cleburne so we decided to stop by since it was close to where we were. The staff was very friendly but I do not see how this could be the top rated pie in Texas. The coconut pie was missing the coconut, only coconut we found was on top of the 4" tall meringue, the cream filling was less than 3/4" thick. The chocolate pie was identical to the coconut. The cream filling was very loose and seemed not to have enough binder to hold it together. We also tried the blueberry pie and wasn't impressed on it either. It wasn't worth the $16 I paid for it, more like $5. I will not be back! read more

I had read the reviews including those by Bryan B ana RS , but, decided to try for myself. I found everyone to be super friendly. The pies were excellent, we had apple and buttermilk. Went back the next day and had chocolate and coconut. Since we were leaving the next day, we asked them to make us a couple of small coconut pies that we would pick up when they opened the next day. They willing agreed to do that for us. When we arrived at opening time the next day the pies were still in the oven. They gave us fresh coffee and we visited a few minutes until the pies were ready. This place is just amazing. The owners are friendly and the pie is delicious. I had the coconut pie, and I've had a lot of pie in my lifetime. This place is hands down as good as it gets as far as quality, service, price and selection. My wife and I ate at Pie Peddlers on 3/30/12, after we had eaten lunch at a local cafe. That other cafe had homemade pies as well, but we wanted to check out Pie Peddlers. We were not disappointed! We both had the All-Berry pie, without ice cream. It was fantastic!! Our pie had just the right balance of tart and sweet. At $4.50 per slice, it was higher than some other places, but the value is in the fact that it is homemade and had such personal touch. Also, they have a great selection of pies. The staff made us feel right at home, even though we just got two slices of pie and no drinks. Pie Peddlers is a "must" destination if you are anywhere around Glen Rose. read more

Visited Glen Rose yesterday, I was feelin really down (understatement) cause dinosaur valley was closed for hunting, and the weather was literally PERFECT for a nice hike.. anyway.. I was driving around with my dog trying to make the most of a 2 hour drive up there and saw that the pie shop was open, spirits soared, I NEEDED pie folks! Pie=The answer to all of your problems. They had a really nice selection, I ordered a slice of the All-berry to go. It sliced SO beautifully! (Like I was super impressed by how gorgeous it sliced... It's the little things) The crust was a little different from what I'm used to, but I liked it! The filling had a perfect sweet/tart balance! I'm very picky about pie and It was very good and exactly what I needed that day The place is absolutely charming and the two people I spoke to were so friendly Thank you for making my day better with your homemade pie! My wife and I were vacationing in the area and having a look at the Square when we saw a sign for pie and had to step in. I had the Buttermilk a la Mode and my wife had the All Berry. I preferred the All Berry but could see how you could get tired of it if that's all you had. The buttermilk - I'm no expert here - but I think it helped I had it with ice cream. It was mushy, I guess? and overly sweet and like another reviewer said, a bit eggy-tasting. Also, I thought the crust was a bit tough - like it had been over-worked or over-cooked. Like, I said, I'm not a pie expert. It was a good treat and I'd probably go back. The server was nice - kind of weird how they stand you there walking by the cases, explaining what they have for pie that day. But I appreciated it, because I got to see what they had and if it looked good. I also appreciated that they made me a pot of decaf. I felt special. :) So, points for service. read more

My 9 yro daughter had a visit to the Pie Peddlers on her official Summer Bucket List, so last week I took 2 kids and 2 teens, looking forward to some awesome homemade pie. Unfortunately, we were all rather disappointed. First of all - the crust: it was flat, tough, & tasteless (we were hoping for something more like light and flaky). I didn't even eat all of mine, and I LOOOVE pie crust! Secondly, the fillings were sparse; they were all flat little pies. We had the chocolate, the apple, the pecan, the buttermilk, and the berry pie. The buttermilk was super sweet, so we didn't finish it. The chocolate was the best, the apple was ok (but very sweet and kind of gummy). The kids all ordered either ice cream on the side and/or whipped cream. The ice cream portions were TINY, and the whipped cream was not real, but cool whip. Yuck. I always try to support local businesses, and love the quaint downtown area of Glenrose. However, I think the Pie Peddlers need to work on their pie crusts especially, and not be stingy with the fillings. At $22 for a whole pie, and $4.50 per slice ($1.00 extra for ice cream), it just isn't a good deal when the pies aren't remarkable. read more
