Weird dessert combo and very bland
    Michael W.

Pied a terre is located in the old cadet hotel on south beach and while there is charm in older boutique hotels, this particular restaurant and hotel is in desperate need of a remodel. It has an old farty feel that would attract the 60+ crowd. Definitely not the spot if you want to take in the charm of some of the other boutique hotels offer across the street. And don't get me wrong, a place could be a complete dump but if the food was amazing, I'd go back time after time. But this was not the case! While the service is great, the food was lacking on every level. I had to send back my beef entree and didn't see a way of them fixing the dish. It was just bad. It was cooked medium rare which is exactly what I asked for but somehow was still very chewy, flavorless and dry. I couldn't swallow a second bite. I was afraid to try anything else but I had to change it for the lobster dish which was better but still had serious flaws with the execution of the dish. The carrots were overcooked and powdery. The mango and pineapple tasted canned and didn't go well with the dish. The sauce also didn't mesh well. The lobster was at least edible because it wasn't over or undercooked. The snow peas had the ends clipped but didn't have the strings removed from the rest of the pod. The appetizer was better as we had the scallop and the "risotto". Honestly, the bread was probably the best part of the meal. We were hoping the dessert would be decent but it was just egg whites fluffed and torched with vanilla mixed in with a chocolate strawberry on the side topped with a really hard and sticky cookie with berries in it. Everything was just placed on the plate and did not go well together. Very bad representation of French cuisine and definitely not worth the price they put on it. Almost anywhere else would've been a better choice. I learned my lesson!

4.5 Pied is one of those Miami rarities: exceptional service, the freshest and highest quality of ingredients, resulting in delicate, well balanced, beautifully prepared courses. This restaurant is tiny and hidden inside the Cadet Hotel. I found it by chance, last year, during my stay. I have been wanting to try it out ever since. We arrived and checked in at the lobby. Shortly after, we were escorted up the six or seven steps into the secluded restaurant. We sat on these beautiful blue wingback arm chairs that happened to be incredibly comfortable and the perfect dining height. Our waiter came over right away to take our drink order. The wine corkage fee is a steep $45. He was friendly, very informative, and seemed very proud of Pied à Terre's food. Amuse bouche: the perfect bite, compliments of the chef. Always nice to see Miami restaurants pick up this trend. This one was a great bite of a citrusy shrimp and fennel salad. Pan seared foie gras: accompanied with strawberries, lime sauce and coco foam. Very good. Foie gras bonbon: this one came wrapped in a potato spaghetti. What's not to love about fried potatoes wrapped around decadent foie gras? This combination was highly unusual, and I dug it. The accompanying, unassuming salad was excellent. Not sure what the dressing was, but it was light, slightly tangy and featured several different types of mushrooms. Delicious. Vegetable tart: this one was a surprise. I thought it would be closer to a veggie filled quiche, but I was wrong. The tart was just a stand-alone parmesan tart. We thought they forgot to add the filling. Turns out, there was none. The tart is topped with a thin tarragon sour cream spread, then mixed greens, asparagus, green peas, and finally, a green pea sorbet. Not your regular vegetable tart, but surprisingly enjoyable! Seabass Peruvian flavors: some baby vegetables and mussels in a dunk-your-bread-worthy lobster broth, yellow peppers, capers, and olives. Very good. Lobster and wild mushroom risotto: listed simply as that, but it was so much more. This dish was the star of the night. A bright, shiny star. The risotto was PERFECTLY cooked and tasted just as good. I would have liked a little bit more lobster, but it really was enough with the amount of risotto. Very good. Valrhona chocolate fondant: the only mediocre part of the night. Nothing about the dessert was memorable. Just your usual chocolate fondant and the ice cream was still way too frozen. We had to truly hit the spoon hard to get through it. Not a fan. It was not up to par with the other dishes. Maybe they can hire the Tamarina pastry chef? (see separate review) Other than the dessert, Pied à Terre delivered big. I really love its unique location and personalized service. Service was wonderful throughout the night. Because of the small space, it was however, a little awkward at times to have several of the staff hover around making sure everything was on point. I can see how some people can get annoyed by that, but they didn't do it all the time. At the end of the night, we spoke with the owner. I loved his passion and enthusiasm when he spoke about the restaurant's concept and ingredients. He's very particular about his sources and using the cleanest, highest caliber of ingredients possible as well as local whenever possible. I didn't have it, but for example, their veal chop is listed as "green fed, hormone & antibiotic free." Sign me up! The owner also made sure to note that this restaurant features French techniques and styles of today and not old school or traditional. They don't hire a full time chef. Instead, they claim they fly in only Michelin rated chefs from France. These chefs then create dishes for Pied and train their kitchen staff for about 3-4 weeks. They do this again every 3-4 months. I asked if Ducasse was one, but the answer was "our lips are sealed." Hmmmmm The restaurant reminded me of a smaller Setai, DB Bistro, or Palme D'Or. It's not a place I will frequent on a monthly basis, but definitively one I will keep for special occasions. Solid.

Amazing modern french cuisine experience!! The service is outstanding and the food is superb quality. From the foie gras tasting, to the veggie risotto, to the decadent venison and duck dishes, to the amazing and all-encompassing deconstructed log desert. It is a must come to place in Miami Beach for fresh, healthy and A+ quality food and wine. Wine selections are special, unique and rare to fine - not commercial wines.

After searching Yelp for a place to get a great meal we stumbled into this place. It was nothing short of the best food we have ever eaten in Miami Beach. As we walked in our ears were greeted by a pianist whose fingers were magical. The whole time we waited for our table our minds just danced with the idea that the chefs skills could be as good as the pianist. We were not disappointed. We were seated shortly and greeted by a very elegant hostess who then introduced us to the expert of the restaurant whose passion for his restaurants food shines through big time. We ordered what we initially thought sounded good and he actually made awesome suggestions and informed us of better options. Our first course was the avocado and quinoa starter. It was bursting with flavor and embodied everything that a starter should. We were served with a bread basket that included all warm delicious gluten. A raisin type bread and a traditional French baguette. Both were amazing and served with imported butter. Everything served here is light and fresh and unlike much French food was prepared without copious amounts (or any) of butter or cream. For another starter we had one of the foie gras options of which there were many. It came with a light orange marmalade type topping that was excellent. For our mains I had the duck and my wife had the Bbq beef. Both portion sizes were big but not overwhelming. The duck was tender and just great. It came with olive mashed potatoes which had a great light flavor. Our only regret was that we were too full for desert. We could see the other tables' deserts and they looked extravagant and delectable. Would absolutely dine here again. Well worth the price, which didn't seem to bad compared to some of the touristy restaurants in the area.

    Valentine's Day Menu
    Ryan F.

Had a romantic Valentine's Day dinner at Pied A Terre. They had a special Prix Fixe menu and we also enjoyed a beautiful bottle of French wine. Quality As so many places do, Pied A Terre created a Prix Fixe menu for Valentine's Day. And while the food on it was delicious, I believe it did not quite capture the full potential of the restaurant. The meal began with a glass of Champagne, a nice touch to welcome each diner to a romantic evening. This was followed by an amuse bouche, a small scoop of Ceviche. Not what I expected of a French restaurant, but a tasty bite nonetheless. For our appetizers we ordered the Warm Duck & Fresh Wild Mushroom Consomme, Ravioles Of Foie Gras and the Lobster Daikon Purse. The consomme was excellent with the broth steeped in rich and deep flavor and the raviolis were delicate and delicious. The lobster was well prepared with a nice profile and fresh flavor. For entrees we had the Steamed Squab And Foie Gras Wrapped In Savoy Cabbage and Short Ribs Marinated In Burgundy Wine And Slowly Cooked. The squab and foie gras was the best bite of the night by far. The decadent foie gras served next to the tender and moist bird was amazing. The short ribs were excellent as well, and happened to be the only substantial dish of the evening. Extremely soft and with a tremendous aroma, they came atop soft mashed potatoes. Then for dessert we had the Floating Island Pied A Terre and the Chocolate Tart. Both showcased amazing presentation, but it was the richness of the Chocolate Tart served alongside the unique griotte cherry sorbet that won me over. And while the food was delicious, it was the wine that makes Pied A Terre special. Recognized by Wine Spectator since they first opened their doors, the extensive list of wines is unbelievably impressive. The wine consultant helped us select an excellent wine to pair with our meal, that left us both very satisfied. My only real complaint for the quality was the handcuffs that prevented further exploration of the menu, the foie gras tasting in particular. Quantity On Valentine's Day the only option was to order from the prix fixe menu. However, I did not feel it was near enough food and without the ability to add on, I ended up leaving the restaurant still hungry. Considering the price tag, that should not have been the case. Value There is no question regarding the high quality of the food, but I still felt like the price for this prix fixe menu was excessive. The fact that it was Valentine's Day likely played a part, as did the glass of champagne that came with the meal. I just feel like I would have enjoyed my experience more without the restrictions of the menu. I must note however, that the wine list is extremely reasonable, with high quality wines at every price point. Ambiance Pied A Terre is located in the Cadet Hotel, a boutique hotel on Miami Beach. The restaurant is found on the second floor of the hotel, but I believe they also have seating in the outdoor patio area. When you arrive you are greeted by a lovely pianist playing a mix of classics and familiar pop tunes. A waiter will then lead you up the stairs to the intimate dining room. With around twenty total seats, the small area allows for a personal touch. The decor is simple, yet elegant, and the music from the lobby carries up to the restaurant. The set up is a bit awkward as the tables are quite close together, but somehow you still feel a sense of privacy. The atmosphere is perfect for a romantic evening. Crowd Pied A Terre has garnered a reputation for being one of the most romantic restaurants in Miami. As such, it was no shock to find it booked up with couples on Valentine's Day. The restaurant itself is a very small space, so expect an intimate dining experience. This is also one of the few places I have been in Miami where dressing up is basically expected. Service At some moments I felt like the service was extraordinary, with careful attention and detailed explanations of the food and wine. However, there were also extended periods where I felt that they forgot we were even at the restaurant. The highlight of the service was the wine consultant who was no nonsense and helped us select the perfect companion to our meal. He also proudly spoke of the foie gras tasting, which I would have loved to try, had it been made available. Parking Surprisingly they do not have valet set up at the hotel or restaurant. Limited street parking can be found or if you do not mind a short walk, there is a large parking deck three blocks west. Extra In the end my bigger issue really is probably with the shortsighted tradition of prix fixe menus on Valentine's Day. The food and the wine at Pied A Terre both proved excellent, but the extra high prices and limited offerings left me disappointed and quite frankly hungry. I feel another visit is very much in order to truly get a sense of what Pied A Terre can do.

What a hidden gem just off the Ocean. French food at its finest in Miami. Sylvia showed us to a wonderfully located private dining area out on the terrace of a gorgeous Art Deco patio and pool area and the evening just got better from their. Patrick was wonderfully knowledgeable with respect to the wines and the food was superb. Each course seemed to get better and better. Since we were a large group the chef had prepared a menu for our group (Sea Scallops, Quinoa Salad or warm lobster salad followed by Pepper Crusted Beef Filet, Rack of Lamb marinated "Sous Vide" or Poached Sea bass) and each dish was beautifully presented and the group had nothing but praise for each dish. I personally had the lobster and the lamb and each were delicious. The Quinoa Salad was presented in the most beautiful manner, and the people who chose that were not disappointed. The lamb was wonderfully cooked and for those who chose the beef (cooked by a French chef) said it was the best they had tasted in some time. And this from a pretty discerning group. The wines - especially the dessert wine - were all delicious and the pastry chef created a chocolate gateaux birthday cake to die for. Glimpsing into the beautifully decorated restaurant itself as we left and we knew we had found a wonderful place and we certainly hope to return on our next visit to Miami. If you are in the area - do not miss out. Thank you Patrick and Sylvia for making the evening such a success.

We went to Pied a Terre for dinner last month and had an amazing meal. I will have you know that when I spoke with Patrick, the first thing I said to him was that I didn't like organ meats. However I decided to go in with an open mind and appetite. Both he and Sonia were gracious, extremely knowledgeable and very excited to have us experience new flavors. I want you to know that I left Sunday WANTING more pan seared foie gras.

It was a delightful dinning experience. We had Miami Spice menu! The appetizers were sea bass carpaccio has mild spicy kick with fresh cilantro, and foie gras came with mango and apricot chutney which was exquisite. The main course were also delicious, Cod filet with champagne sauce, celery knob fettuccine, and petite filet mignon is from Australian, very tender. Scollop potatoes had unique presentation and taste. The floating island dessert was superb, and the raspberry sorbet had full of flavor!

    Love fois gras!

My thoughts FWIW:…read more -Beautiful space. I can't imagine what they spent on it. The tables are awkwardly close together, mimicking a french bistro but with such a big restaurant that's generally not very full I don't see why they need the capacity at the expense of comfort. -Food is very good, and it's a great change of pace from the boring sushi and Italian places that are everywhere here. I like getting a filet or the chicken there, the dover sole is pretty good also. If you like french, you'll like this. -Prices are high, it's very expensive. I think maybe that's part of the reason for the slower nights. I thought this place would be slammed because it's unique to the area, but when I go there it's generally not that full. It's not empty, but, it's not as busy as I would expect. I like quieter restaurants so that's not really an issue, but with such a big space I just hope they make it. Sunset is a neighborhood and I think how places like Sardinia have made it so long is recognizing that, maybe offer something that draws in more casual eaters (or drinkers, the bar is beautiful). I know it's a balance, because the type of food served is higher material costs. Sardinia keeps removing menu items because they get priced out of what the area can support, so it's not easy. -Service is hit or miss, but maybe it's just because they are new. They can be a little slow and disorganized. Maybe just working the kinks out. Everyone is nice though. -This is a place to drink wine rather than beer, but it's laughable their beer choice is Corona. France makes some decent beer now, carry a French lager and an IPA. Or go Belgium for the beers if that's easier to supply, Duval or something works. I liked their wine selections. -They seem to do zero marketing. Not sure if that's intentional, but, not sure many people know it's even there. Do some Instagram stuff, make some noise. There are lots of big money homes nearby, put a frickin' flyer in their mailboxes or something. Venetian islands, Sunset, Bay Road, come on lol. TL;DR: Glad French food is here. Food is good, service hit or miss, expensive.

Food was garbage. Served cold. Would not recommend. I feel…read morebad for the staff because they are nice but the food they serve is actually horrible and overpriced. Everything was bad for a table of 12. Every was cold. The restaurant looks nice but again you can't have a good place and serve cold food!!!!
