My husband got a strawberry cheesecake type of pie for his birthday and it was just perfection. It was creamy and light with fresh strawberries. It wasn't as dense as a regular cheesecake! I could go on and on about this place as someone with a severe gluten intolerance. I ordered two pies, the GF Banana Cream Pie and the GF Chocolate Cream Pie. I was SPEECHLESS. Never in my life have I had such amazing GF pie, or any GF pie. My mom doesn't have a gluten allergy and said she wants to only get pies here from now on! Another year, another pie! Our uncle loves to send us an annual pie during the holidays and we repeated our visit to Piefection again this year. Naturally, we struggled deciding on which pie we wanted with their vast options from seasonal, to cheesecake based, fruit based and many in between! I do find their website to be a tad bit overwhelming and wish it was a bit more organized. That being said, after reviewing many options, we landed on the Arizona Orange Pie, which they described as being similar to a Key Lime pie, but with orange. It did not disappoint! I am not sure what I was expecting, but this very unique pie was refreshing, sweet and tangy. It was a hit at our friends dinner, across the board. We also opted to snag a Chicken Pot Pie to take home and bake later. The flavor and crust were very tasty. I did feel it lacked in the protein category, a little runnier than I would traditionally want and did not have any potatoes -maybe more traditional in my family, but nonetheless had a nice flavor and was nice for dinner and leftovers. Popped in for a bittersweet event, my mom's 1 year anniversary of her unexpected passing. She used to make an excellent Lemon Meringue pie. There weren't any in the frig but the gal was very helpful and said they were bringing some out from the back. We purchased a whole pie. After her favorite meal of chicken and dumplings we were excited to have some pie. Well, to say the least we were disappointed in everything about the pie, the only acceptable part of the pie was the crust. The meringue tasted soapy and the lemon filling was very tart and not good. Didn't even finish my piece. Disappointed to say the last, perhaps next time if we decide to try would only purchase a piece of pie at a time. I discovered Piefection at their pop up shop in Scottsdale at 90th and Via Linda. There are so few places to get homemade quality gourmet pies. I really hope the pop up shop will become a permanent location as Scottsdale really needs this! I bought a Strawberry Rhubard pielet and a Cheesecake pie. Both were delicious and unique! I would like to try more of their pies and really hope the pop up shop stays or a permanent location is a fixture in Scottsdale.
