I had been to La Dolce Vita for their delicious Gelato several times. Now during restaurant week I was able to experience their fabulous food. I started out with the arancine, 2 large deep fried balls with stuffed with a ragu. Next was a prosciutto dancing that was enough for 4 people with a side of the most delicious seasoned fries I have ever tasted. Desert was obviously Gelato and once again was not disappointed. Tiramisu and Java Joy. Amazing flavors. Service was great and while the setting isn't fancy, it has a warm feeling to it. Walked in at 1900 hrs on 31 Jan 26. There were a few people ahead of us; as in a mom & dad with VERY loud kids x2, grandma & grandpa. The 'Mom & dad' were sampling what seemed to be every damn thing they had in their gelato case, which only held up the line of people which was getting longer and longer. By the time he & she got done with their samples, the kids and grandma and grandpa had disappeared outside. Needless to say, they were causing the employees to exclusively wait on them! Now, as previously stated, the line is quite long and in walks this very pregnant woman with child & hubby in tow who says; "who's next" and just starts ordering not letting anyone answer nor give a damn about anybody else in line AHEAD of her. OK, maybe she's just obnoxious. But what really irritated me was the robotic response from the employees; (two young women & a young man) never bothered to acknowledge anybody else except the ever so pregnant entitled woman. In fact, they just let her proceed with her order as if the other 10+ people in line didn't matter! The employees were in auto pilot and not paying attention to anything or any one around them. Gelato Dolce Vita is a small shop attached to an Italian restaurant that serves up delectable flavors -- I genuinely enjoyed each one I tried! I ended up selecting the blood orange, since I was looking for something unique and fruity. However, the espresso and stracciatella also have my heart!! The texture was perfectly dense and smooth, and the friendly staff fully packs these little cups. You can even choose two flavors with any size. When my daughter brought it inside I asked if she had checked the order when she picked it up because it smelled like fish and we didn't order fish. The order was correct but the carbonara sauce was so strong (anchovy) that the meal was not fit to eat. It was also stone cold. We only live two blocks from the restaurant. The calamari was also stone cold. The quality of the calamari was terrible. Fast food restaurants serve better product. Calamari strips were tiny little pieces with a ton of batter. Could not even taste the calamari, this meal was so bad we threw it away. Usually I give a restaurant two chances. Not this time. I can't remember a meal that was worse than what I was served today. However, the bathroom raises serious concern about how the management perceives cleanliness. Does the inside of the gelato machine get cleaned with the same attention to detail? I'd heard this place was good, but wow. Super creamy and amazing flavors. Whoever makes this is an artist! I just moved to the area and have already been in twice. Employees have been helpful and wearing masks. The shop is very clean. It's also attached to an Italian grocer/deli so you can pick up a sandwich or staples like pasta if you need. My wife and I went to the gelato side of this restaurant. Very friendly staff, amazing service, however... upon entering I immediately was hit with a very strong cleaning/chemically smell. (Possibly ammonia??) as I sampled the gelato I had the impression that I could TASTE in the gelato whatever I was smelling in the store. I shrugged it off as just a lingering effect of sampling in a strongly scented environment, but after we checked out and left the shop to go eat in our car, the taste continued to resonate slightly with each bite. I ended up throwing all of it away minus 4 small bites because I was uncomfortable with eating possibly contaminated ice cream. At a minimum it tasted (to me) like it was made in a heavily chemically cleaned environment.
