I completely recommend pielands! I had to try a sub and slice on my visit. I decided to get the Italian sub and a pepperoni slice. Italian sub was amazing! The sub bread is freshly baked. I have honestly never tried any sub more amazing then this one. The bread was my favorite part of the sub. Everything went together so well but the bread was the finishing touch! The pepperoni slice was one of the best in Atlanta. There was so much flavor, from the sauce to the cheese, and the pepperonis. It was smaller pepperoni then what most other places use and I definitely prefer this one. I am in love with pielands and will be back very soon as it is becoming one of my regular spots. The dining area is always unkept: never a clean table and food debris everywhere. But not like you would expect if this was the busiest pizza parlor; more like nobody takes the time to take care of the space. Otherwise: salads & sandwiches are pretty good and the pizza is not the worst in Atlanta. read more

First review! Have been looking forward to this opening for a while now, and I wasn't disappointed. A decently sized slice for 3 bucks, and it's got my favorite type of pepperoni (the grease cup kind... not for everyone). It was pretty packed when I went yesterday (I think it was their grand opening) and it sounded like their menu is still limited with the open. Pielands is a really cute New York-style pizzeria located in the heart of Virginia Higland, and a perfect addition to the neighborhood. We stopped in for a quick Saturday lunch and were pleased to find a seat outside at one of their little sidewalk tables. We shared the most incredible garlic knots, and she had a slice of their white pie. I am not the biggest pizza fan (shocking, I know) so I sampled their vegetarian sub, stuffed with pizza veggies and topped with vinaigrette and herbs. Served on the softest hoagie bread, it was absolutely delicious and made for a perfect lunch. I've been to Pielands several times over the past few years and am always thankful we have such a stellar little pizza joint in VaHi. To me, it's the closest thing you're going to get to NY pizza in ATL. I'm partial to the simple pepperoni--always thin, tasty crust and dripping in delicious grease just like any respectable slice should be. Maybe they were having an off night, but I can truly say that the only redeeming quality this place had was the wings. The service was a little slow, which I can completely understand given the number of orders and that each pie is baked fresh. What I can't understand is why we waited 45 minutes to get a pizza that was not what we ordered and had raw dough. Terrible customer service, manager became angry and aggressive (raised his voice and entered my personal space, I believe to intimidate me). We left as we did not feel safe at this establishment. Also, I now unfortunately must add that the owners response attempts to represent me in a certain light that simply isn't true at all. I had not been drinking, was not intoxicated, and certainly made no demands - that's absurd. The on-duty manager was the one being rude and aggressive throughout the situation. In fact, after he became rude and aggressive he followed me outside to the sidewalk and began raising his voice again and cursing. It was all very odd and concerning. Had been waiting for this place to open for a while. And when we had visitors from out of town, we decided to go all out and get a few pies. We got Nonna's, Pepperoni and THE MCDOWELL. Yes In all caps THE MCDOWELL. The cheeseburger pizza. Omg, so much more than I could ask for. It has the most amazing balance of cheese and pickles. They really got this one right. We were so impressed we came back a week later to get another. The smell is all you ever wanted. We were just happy a place offered a cheeseburger pizza. Would like to start by saying the customer service and inviting atmosphere was all that and then some! The food was definitely amazing and better than I could have imagined! The noni pizza is definitely one of the best pizzas I have had in Atlanta! The attention to detail in the ingredients and the cooking process surpassed all that I could've expected. Born and raised in NY, this is the only pizza shop I will patron as long as I can! Tommy the owner made me feel like family! Ok, so I love pizza. I mean LOVE all kinds of pies. Really wanted to like these pizzas. Reviews were great, and local is always the way to go. Tried a round Pepperoni/cheese, and the square spicy meatball to get both ends of the spectrum. Bad: - Round pie was 30% crust to actual pie. Way too much for an expensive 16 inch pie to have that much crust. - Round pie crust was absolutely devoid of any flavor. Zip. Dry and bland. - Square spicy meatball was a soggy mess. So soggy we had to eat it with a spoon. That should never, ever be the case. - Overall, too expensive. Good: - Square pie had a great flavor to the crust. - Ingredients were very fresh. - Plentiful Pepperoni on the round pie - Side salad was delish! Its a cutthroat pizza market out there with tons of good choices. They have the potential to make a great pie, but they need to hone their talents if they want to succeed.
