Just got to sample their soon-to-be-released gluten free crust, and it's awesome! Definitely so good you'll have to ask if it's really GF (it is). Sauce, cheese, and toppings are all top-notch too. We will be here a lot once the GF pie hits the menu! read more

Pictures of the Nino pan pizza. The Nino was meh. The best part of Nino was the oil/garlic/herbs they brush the crust with. Nino aside, the joint is open until a decent time where you can get a decent slice quickly. I don't recommend the place unless you are drinking some beer nearby at Moe n Joes or George's and need a quick bite or find yourself in Virginia Highlands and fast food isn't where it's at. Overall good for cheap fast slice not take out or sit down. I'll be back for da $3 slice to go. read more

The staff is very friendly and attentive, and cute slightly 80s retro vibe shop. Unfortunately, the pizza is pretty mediocre, and food and drinks seem a bit pricey for what you get - also tastes a bit like 80s quality pizza. We'd love to give this place more stars, but unfortunately, we just can't. We will continue to periodically work Pielands in because we like to support local businesses, and the slices of pizza are practical; but for really good pizza, we'll stick with Antico, Ammazza, and Varuni Napoli. - EDIT: In response to Derek's response - we're familiar with NYC pizza - we've lived in NYC. That said, bumping Pielands up from 3 stars to 4 stars because we appreciate your shop in VAHI, we appreciate conscientious and responsive owners, and we want Pielands to stay and thrive. read more

Pieland? More like the Promise Land. My mild gluten intolerance and raging heartburn was no deterrent when it came to enjoying this establishment. The Royal was the perfect lunch pick me up, and their Italian sausage is the only one I'll ever need in my life. I wanted to like this spot since it's in the neighborhood. However the pepperoni pizza was below average. The crust is like cardboard. The sauce was cold and was FULL of oregano (there was a pile of it clustered under the cheese. Despite the cold sauce, the crust was burnt on the bottom. There was very little cheese on the pizza and the whole thing was just off putting. I had high hopes for them, but I guess I'll have to go to other shops. read more

I've eaten at this restaurant before and food was delicious. Today I ordered through Uber Eats and it was disastrous. I only ordered lemon pepper winds, order of cheese bread and a coke. The wings were very good as recommended by a friend. The cheese bread was burned on top and bottom, to the point of cheese that I assumed was sprinkled on top was not recognized. Neat place but the Italian Stallion pizza was pretty bland and certainly not worth the price. For $26 I would think they could buy some seasonings. Additionally, they said they would call me when ready as I waited outside. It was not busy so after 30 minutes I decided to go inside to check and it turns out it had been ready and was sitting on the counter already....getting warm. read more

I really had hoped this would be worth the almost 15 mile trip but sadly no. I finally located this location after circling through the neighborhood behind it. It is directly across the street from a I believe a Chevron gas station. However any photo of it really doesn't do justice because it is nothing nearly close to size as shown. It's in the middle of several buildings facing the main road so you might miss it. Moving on so since parking was not available on the street and the small lot next was full I decided to press my luck and park at the station and walk across. Upon entering I was greeted promptly and that was a plus. I always appreciate a smile when greeted! They have a few small 2 seater tables aligning the sidewalk so not sure if all the businesses share those but they were full. Inside was a family and a few customers for take out. It had a few tables but would probably be an issue if you came with a large party, but I wouldn't doubt that maybe with advance notice, they would get you set up. I had only intended to get 1 slice of their pepperoni since all the pics that I saw looked delish and full of pepperoni. At last second I decided to get 2 slices which came to $7.00. The wait time wasn't too bad for them to reheat the slices. I was kind of surprised that the pies were already made since I hadn't been to pizza spot in a while that didn't add ingredients to a cheese slice but hey something new. I can't say if the wait was too long because I was busy looking at their items for sale, the businesses adjacent and general ppl watching. The young lady gave my box and quickly I left back to the car since again wasn't too sure about that situation but was following what others did. Lol I was so ready to just take a pic first, then 1 or 2 lil bites before heading back to my drive south......this is where visual presentation dropped like a wrecking ball. The 2 slices in this medium, or possibly large box, were tiny in length and looked nothing like what I saw that motivated me to add them to my impromptu food run. Those slices should have gone into a much smaller box to at least not show the obvious size so easily, the box was dwallowing them. Not to allow the appearance to stop me I snapped pics and headed back home. When I thought it was cool enough to bite a few mins while sitting in traffic, I did and nothing popped. I mean I wanted it to be so much better than it looked at least but sadly pretty much not so much. I decided to put them in fridge and try again next day and reheat in oven. Even that did nothing for the flavor and ultimately I couldn't finish one slice so I was mad at myself for changing my mind and adding the 2nd slice because I could not give it another try and trashed it. I don't know really what I feel might have been the issue because I've considered it was after 5pm and the streets were packed. Anyone would think with that type of crowd in the area that appeared to be partying, etc, that all businesses would be bracing for the evening diners, late nighters and hung over munchies type. Maybe that was the wrong Saturday or perhaps wrong timing but I can't say if I'd be willing to travel back to town to try to find out. However, I really wanted to like them after bookmarking them 2 weeks ago and looking daily just waiting on a day that I felt like sitting in traffic to get into town. I found this place after being told by the place I normally get meatball subs (Grant Central Pizza) that they won't make them on weekends. I'm now very glad that was the case because Pielands has a truly exceptional meatball sub and far better than theirs in every way. The meatballs are delicious as well as the sauce/bread. It's also a generous portion and perfect to split with someone for lunch. This is my new spot for meatball subs and I'm glad that I found them! If you are in the mood for one look no further because you found the right place. I will be looking forward to trying the rest of their menu out as well. read more

Came here with some friends. Ordered a round pizza slice each and the square pepperoni pizza to share. My white pizza slice came out quick and was crispy and quite good. The square pepperoni came out later and despite it looking great, the crust was soaked through and the whole pie was soggy. We only got through a few of the edge pieces before we gave up and threw the rest away. Hope this isn't standard for their square pizzas but I would definitely advise a round pizza if you come here. read more

Not in the neighborhood often but I grab a pie whenever I am. My kids enjoy the Pac-Man as much as the pizza. Very friendly staff. I definitely need to remember to try the pre-made cocktails. And we love Tommy!!!!! read more

Its ok, the pizza is pretty good, however, the slices are def on the smaller side compared to other places around town. I am not sure whether or not they are to not be the typical pizza shop, but the menu leaves a few things to be desired. Specifically, Calzones, Strombolli, Chicken and Eggplant Parm heros. I dont understand how they can leave those staples off the menu. read more

ATL rejoice! The best gluten-free pizza is coming soon! Tried their new GF pizza tonight and it was SO good. One of the best I've eaten to date. I can't wait for it to hit the regular menu end of this year! It's made with a special GF flour from Italy, the same kind that my favorite Neapolitan pizza place in NYC uses for its GF pizzas. The marinara sauce tastes like fresh summer tomatoes and features the same high quality toppings. The crust tastes and eats like normal pizza in a way that seems unreal. It's clear they did their homework on creating the right dough! I reached for a final slice after already feeling pretty full which is usually the sign of good pizza. read more

The pizza is good but the operation leaves something to be desired. We have ordered takeout three times, two pizzas each time. Each time I've waited for 15+ more minutes than the quoted time, and in each case one of the pies was available 20 minutes before the other - so we end up with one cold pizza and one hot. It seems very disorganized and I watched people who ordered after me get multiple pies before my second was completed. On my last trip they "found" my pizza on top of (not in) the oven, after it sat for who knows how long. The space doesn't seem big enough for their demand unless they figure out a smoother operation. read more
