It's hard to beat this view. You are right on the lake, and it's really pretty. Mom and I went for dinner here on Sunday so we could watch the Bears game at the bar after. Our server was very nice and attentive. We ordered the crab cake, deviled eggs, Chilean sea bass, and grilled prawns. Everything was delicious except for the deviled eggs. They were inedible. So much vinegar, I was choking. When ordering it is one singular crab cake, which was fine for us bc we were order a few things to share. But if you have a group you may want to order a couple. The sea bass was cooked perfectly snd the sauce was sweet and spicy. My mom loved the char on the prawns. We were really pleased with 90% of the menu. We went to sit at the bar after to watch the Bears. They have a bar outside, so you still have the nice view and breeze off the lake. We enjoyed the one you g bartender with long dark wavy hair and glasses. She was attentive to everyone not just the people she knew, and was funny too. Sitting on their "beach" you get more of a view of someone's boat than a view of the lake. My visit on last Saturday was less than stellar. Sat on the beach for 20 minutes before a waiter came up and asked if he could get something. Had to laugh, my better half went to the bar to get us drinks a couple drinks a couple minutes ago, we got tired of waiting. The family next to us left after having lunch and drinks. The table sat there for over a half hour with dirty plates that the bees were enjoying. Needless to say we left. Between horrible service and the ridiculous prices it's safe to say I won't be back anytime soon. read more

I got an iced tea with lemon and the lemon was rotten. They clearly have no QA. I could have gotten very sick from that! Who knows what kind of bacteria was on that lemon! Also they charged me for the iced tea. You couldn't have taken A $3.50 drink off my check? It's cost you 25 cents for that. Now you've made an enemy instead of reconciling the situation. read more

The ambiance and water view was great. We were seated right away and both hostess were friendly and kind. We got seated and cups were placed on our table. We waited about 15min to be greeted by our waiter and to get any water. There were about 4 tables aside from ours and plenty of empty tables. I was a bit confused on what was taking so long for someone to come to our table.... Ryan our waiter was so so. Not friendly and was really just there to take our order. The appetizer and food took some time. Since we weren't in a rush not really a big deal. What was irritating was once the food came to our table our waiter nor other staff member approached our table. I was literally half way through my meal and wanted more water in the thin tall cups they had. I refrained from getting up and even tried to make eye contact with any waiter at this point to get something to drink. Still no one checked on us. I think empty water cups are good indicator that the table might need more water specially since we did not order other beverages. All of our cups were empty. I finished my meal and since no has stopped at our table I got up and asked the other waitress sitting at the booth, folding napkins and utensils to please let our waiter know that we would like some water. I had a full meal and nothing to drink. The food was fine and I do agree with other reviews that the location is great, food is average and that it's pricey for what you will be getting. read more

Love Pier 290! Such a great location with great food. The steak was absolutely delicious - cooked to perfection and seasoned well. The mashed potatoes were creamy and flavorful, and the creme brûlée was the perfect ending to the meal (can't go wrong). Props to the chef! The service was good. Our server was friendly, knowledgeable about the menu, and made great recommendations. They also had live music which added to the already enjoyable atmosphere of the restaurant. Been going to Pier 290 since their first opening night in 2012. They changed managers since. The food has been variable the entire time. Went in for lunch today. Beer was cold. Service was great. Ordered the fish tacos and could not find the fish! Seriously. My wife had me open one up and we measured maybe a tablespoon of actual cod. Lots of onions, peppers and pickled cucumber. No fish. $22 for two tacos with about an ounce of fish. The watermelon salad was supposed to come with feta cheese and we couldn't find any of that either. I get it. You can serve grilled cheese on Wonder Bread in the Lake Geneva area for $25 and tourists will stand in line for an hour just for the privilege of eating by the lake. That said, you can try and do better. The best part about 290 is the amazing location. The restaurant itself is beautiful. The bartenders are skilled and they serve very cold beer. read more

This place was absurdly priced for what it is. First, the "outside" wasn't really outside. They had a covering so I didn't feel all that safe with people not having masks on. The service was really slow. We got sat next to the bar so the bartender was also our waiter which I think it just a lot to ask of one person. They brought us the wrong food- luckily the waiter caught it and then just switched it out from the people who had our food. The mules weren't in copper mugs just plastic glasses which felt cheap. The ribs were good, definitely well cooked. I got the Chilean sea bass which was good but not worth what it cost. Artichoke dip was good too - we asked for it with pita bread and that was a good call. Overall, the food was good but the service was not great so had to knock it down. read more

We came in on 10/22/23 for lunch ....its a very cute place with cool historic photos from old visitors...cute gift shop too. We just sat at the bar and had some deviled eggs - very good. Really beautiful view of the lake and nice outdoor too. The bartenders were not very attentive even though they were not very busy which is why we only had the DE and one drink. Came for lunch service on Valentine's Day with my significant other. We had drinks and appetizers right by the lake in the new igloo installations they have right by the edge of the water. I was surprised to see we were the only ones out there because it was just so romantic, perfect for the occasion. Even though it's outdoors the igloo is very well equipped with heaters that warm up the space perfectly. Our server was very attentive and friendly. We dined in a Friday night when restaurant had fish fry as special. They offered fried or broiled fish. Can't eat deep fry food, so I had a broiled fish. We were here a few weeks ago while I was in town for a horse show in Elkhorn. Fortunately my boyfriend had grabbed a new pair of flip flops for me, so I didn't have to wear my cowboy boots like I had the night before for a disappointing dinner at Geneva Chophouse (I had lost one of my favorite sandals somewhere between Elkhorn and the Grand Geneva earlier that day). The bar had karaoke inside which was fun to observe but not our scene. Outside, the people watching was AMAZING! There was one very stunning woman who seemed to compel a crowd of gentleman to accompany her to the bathroom every time she went! She was with a group of women celebrating something so I'm pretty sure they were just admirers, or maybe she exudes some kind of pheromone that activates men's bladders. Who knows. We also saw tables of what appeared to be young teenagers but were probably college aged adults, because as you get older everyone just looks younger. It was interesting (but not surprising) to see how many people ran into others that they knew. The view was gorgeous, the weather was perfect - it was one of the last super hot days of summer - and our server, Debbie, was fun with a great knowledge of the menu and recommendations. I had the chicken, which I seldom order out (because there's always chicken in the freezer, and anyone can cook it), but it was delicious and just what I needed after getting up at 4am to show my horse for 14 hours in the 90+ degree heat. I'm not a huge fan of potatoes but I liked their mashed potatoes quite a bit. My boyfriends steak was good too, and so were the very large shrimp cocktail we started with. Most importantly, we felt both comfortable and safe while still enjoying a dinner out that felt a little more normal than things do in Illinois. Everyone was very respectful of social distance and mask wearing without interfering with the meal or the experience. We passed on dessert in favor of another drink at the Grand Geneva, which was a great choice since there was a Beta Chi reunion at the resort. Talk about great people watching - nothing better than watching a bunch of late middle-aged men revert to their college-aged antics right in front of you! Anyway, go to Pier 290, ask for Debbie and get the chicken. You won't regret it and you won't get COVID. read more

Great views of Lake Geneva. We all had the Friday fish, two broiled, two batter fried. The cod was flakey and tasty. Their fries were just crispy enough. Served with Cole slaw and apple sauce. The presentation was very appealing and the flavors excellent. We also enjoyed a craft hazy ipa. The restaurant features historic photos of the Lake Geneva area , which are very interesting. Even though it was rainy and foggy, the overall experience was very pleasant. We were very happy with the service and they allowed us ample time, 3 hours, to renew acquaintances with old friends. Totally enjoyed July 4th "outside" at Pier 290. Thank goodness the area was covered as it started raining and they were able to close things up but you could still see the lake! Great ambience! The food was amazing! We had the ribs, the short rib and my mom had the prawns. She never finishes her meal and we had to sit and wait for her to clean her plate! She loved it! Will definitely be coming back! As a side note - If you need handicap parking go down to the front by the water and there's parking there and no steps anywhere! Easy to get in and out! read more
