The location of this place is amazing! It is right on the water and they have different options for seating. You can either sit inside or sit outside. It was very cool! As far as food, they do offer a large brunch menu along with a lot of different options on their regular menu. The food was delicious and filling. I got the Grilled Chicken Sandwhich and would highly recommend! It does has a little bit of a spicy sauce to it but it is good! For the wait staff, our waitress was super friendly and nice. I know the place was busy but with all the wait staff they had at the place, you would think service would be faster but I am not going to be picky. The only thing is, we were there for a bachelorette party and they offered the soon to be bride a dessert but she never did get it. But if you are in the area, I would check them out! read more

Horrible experience! We went here on a busy Labor Day Sunday. After being told that they were not taking walk-ins, we found our way outside to sit at the bar. It was filthy! Total chaos. We waited about 15 minutes for poorly made drinks served in small plastic cups ($15/piece). Are you joking? We moved inside to sit at a high top and received no service. We ended up leaving and will not be going back. I understand it is a busy holiday, but find sufficient waitstaff who can keep up with the work. read more

This is my go to restaurant in Lake Geneva for special occasions. We were there on 8/12/2019. 1. Thanks for getting our table outside as we had requested. It took a good 1/2 hour but we got it. 2. It took a while for the waitress to even introduce herself. That should of been our clue as to how the night would be. 3. First round of drinks took a good 20 minutes. 4. Put our appetizer order in. We ordered like 5. After about a good 1/2 hour no appetizers still, even she kept saying they were coming. 5. Dinner comes. Hmmmm kind of reverse order in my world. Within two minutes. Here come the appetizers. The waitress was so excited to bring them. ?? We were like um no thank you now. She was shocked. What should we scarf everything down at the same time? Seriously had issues the last time we were there too and just chalked it up to a bad night. Food: chipotle pork chop is still amazing even though the price goes up substantially each year. You dine her to be seen not to enjoy the food. So over priced. You feel like you paid a membership fee for the right to eat and be noticed. Flys everywhere. The open dinning transition to indoor invites all the flys you can swat off your food. Poorly designed restaurant. Constant turnover of the menu and management occurs frequently as they try and reinvent themselves. My opinion is you can spend your dining dollars better somewhere else. read more

DO NOT GO HERE. We had a party of 7 and had a reservation at 7 pm. We had to wait another 30 minutes for dinner because they booked a wedding reception party. We go in, order drinks, and wait another 20 minutes for our server "Paula" to take out appetizers. Our apps take another 20 minutes to take out then she finally takes out order for the entrees after another 10 minutes. We literally eat our food and finish our drinks and it's now been two hours. We haven't gotten our main entree and our server walked past us MANY MANY times and never told us what was going on or cared enough to check. We waited and waited then finally got our server to talk to us and she kept lying and telling us that the manager "Netty" would come talk to us. She never came to talk to us and the server lied to us that the food was being "plated." The manager finally came to us and said we are so sorry and waived our check. That was the LEAST she could do, however, we had to wait so long for them to even TELL US something so simple. The service is literally absolutely the worst and they never should have been open if they cannot be efficient. For one of the party members, she didn't get her sprite for 30 minutes. She ignored another party member for drinks. We booked advance for MONTHS and this was a friend's bachelorette weekend. Location / Atmosphere - Excellent location right on the bay. We were here in the Winter and things were 'snow covered'. Saw that they have an out-door patio and am guessing that they have out-door seating / service in the summer. A very nice restaurant and bar area with fire-places all around. Gave it very nice 'sky lodge' feel. Food / Beverage - Very nice menu and everything sounds excellent. Hats off to the chef and kitchen staff. We started with the Chips & Dip. Nice combination of 'home-made' chips with a 'not to Smokey' onion dip. I had the Apple Cider Chicken Tenderloin which was delicious. The combination of pan roasted fruits and vegetables were a perfect match with the Chicken. Thought that I saw some mushrooms that I didn't think were on the menu. My wife had the Salmon Angel Hair pasta dish that was excellent. A health 8oz salmon filet which was perfectly cooked. And for desert we split the Carrot Cake which was wonderful. Service - Very pleasant and attentive service. Our server did a great job checking in on us several times throughout the evening. We had an early dinner and the room wasn't very full when we arrived but things picked-up by the time that we left. In summary - A very nice and cozy place that also has a nice bar area. They were very accommodating as we were a walk-in on Valentine's day week-end. I recommend visiting the when in the area. Went here yesterday after a long day out on Lake Michigan. We are new to the area and have been trying new places each weekend and most have been a miss but this place, this place was a HIT. we sat outside and it had great waterfront views. We go to Pier 290 because it's walking distance. We've been there 3-4 times. The food is just average and overpriced. The Garlic Shrimp with pasta is $31 and Chilean Sea Bass is $36. The pasta has 4 shrimp on it. The sea bass is served on top of mashed potatoes. Both are drenched in the same broth with zucchini, cherry tomatoes, and asparagus. A couple weeks ago, we had the short ribs which were also served on mash potatoes and drenched in a broth. Service is good. Unless you like the convenience of the location, there are better options in the area that are less expensive. read more

Overrated in my opinion. Nice view, but I thought the food was just okay. I had the garlic shrimp pasta which was watery- lots of veggies that I think released much more water into the dish than intended, which made for a bland penne pasta meal. Husband's meal was better- the strip steak with goat cheese and arugula was good, but not out of this world. Our server also didn't tell us about the dinner specials, so when we saw other tables get served awesome looking items we didn't see on the menu we were disappointed. As a long-time local, it had taken me some time to return for food service at 290. And, I have to say, it is FANTASTIC!! Chef Ken is doing wonderful work with his menu, quality of food and amazing preparations!! I went with a bunch of co-workers and we all tried each others food ..... I can't say enough good things. The island shrimp app was to die for and the hummus was the BEST I have ever had, and that's saying something. The salmon, blackened tuna sandwich, crispy chicken sandwich, the burger .... all of it added up to one of the most delicious meals I can remember having, ever. I have been to this place twice and each time is mediocre. My parents and I went here for lunch on 8/26/18, weather was beautiful, very humid but sunny day to be at the pier. I love how this place is decorated and designed, beautifully, very nautical. Service is always lacking. The waiter took our order for drinks, fine but my mom asked for a glass of ice three times, finally someone else got it for her. We ordered three ceviches, only got one. The ceviche is delicious and I love how they serve it in a martini glass surrounded by delicious chips on the plate. They served everything at once which we did not want, so there was a lot of food on the table. My mom ordered the Wonton Crunch salad which only came with cabbage and chicken, that's it, there are a ton of other fixings on it so waiter came back and said, I will bring it back and get you another order but my mom was trying to say , I will order something else, waiter had a bit of an attitude in his tone. I find that some of the waitstaff are off in their own little worlds or they are not listening. It's a shame because it is such a cute place but you kind of leave there frustrated. Wife and I went to Pier 290 for our anniversary dinner. We had reservations and were seated at the best table in the outdoor eating area. The view and the food were both good. We were able to watch boats come and go. We had ceviche and arugula salad and barbecued ribs all were very good. The ribs were particularly tasty and tender. Oh Pier 290 how I want to love you... First the good. This place is beautiful! It is an amazing space tastefully decorated with a natural lake setting right out of a movie set. You can drive here from the bustle of the city and in minutes you are at peace with a drink in your hand (well maybe more like 15 minutes waiting for the drink because the service is so slow), which leads me to the bad. The Bad. The food...did I mention the food is bad, really bad. If you arrive in between lunch and dinner you receive a bar snack menu. The only thing that is close to enjoyable is the chips and onion dip and that is when they don't leave the chips out in the sun too long becoming soggy before being served. At 5pm comes the dinner menu and that contains poorly executed under seasoned food at downtown Chicago prices. The menu reeks of pretension and simply is too far reaching for that staff to execute. We had dishes that were under cooked, over cooked and under seasoned all in the same sitting. Please, please simplify the menu with some Wisconsin supper club standards just elevated a bit. For the love of God throw a burger on the menu! The Service. It seems that there are more servers standing around in groups then actually taking orders. They all seem very polite but incredibly clueless. No one seems to be proud of what they are serving and I have to say to that point...I can't blame them. Until they overhaul the menu, train the staff, I would recommend grabbing a seat by the water. My date and I started off with the charcuterie platter that was so humdrum I was baffled.. how could they dare present such a travesty when so many fantastic cheeses are created in Wisconsin? Same with the olives (bland) same with the bread (pedestrian). And for that I paid $24. My date ordered a Caesar salad, which was on the small side. He ordered a shrimp add on for $12 extra. They threw 3 shrimp on the salad, so the entire salad was like $26. I had the white bean chili for $9, it was really more of a watery cream soup with a few (and I mean A FEW) beans thrown in. Then they tried to charge me $3 more than the menu stated so we had to discuss that when the bill came. We rode on motorcycles from Chicago to my sister's lake house off 50. By the time we arrived, she and her family had packed up and left. A neighbor told us about Williams Bay. Hungry and interested, she gave us directions. We decided to look for the first place near the water. This is how we stumbled upon Pier 290. I haven't had this type of bad luck with service in a long time. Word of advice: do not come expecting to have a good experience when you arrive between lunch and dinner service on any given day. Leave, as soon as you are told that ALL the available tables are reserved for dinner service. Their definition of a limited food menu is an overpriced understatement. Even though you must wait in line at all times to be greeted and seated by a hostess, you are not given much choice. She is there precisely to direct you to their bar, patio or beach area and to make sure you do not occupy any one of the empty dining tables that are inside or outside the restaurant. The beach is nice, if you like sitting in folding chairs on sand in your street clothes without any shade to protect you from the sun or heat. The outdoor patio was acceptable for about five minutes. There was no air or wind circulating under the covered deck and the ceiling fans weren't turned on. It took way too long for our order of pub chips and ham and cheese sandwich to arrive. To make matters worse, the sandwich had about a pound of cheese and one measly slice of ham on it. The dip which accompanied the chips was disgusting. When our friend brought the sandwich to the server's attention, her remark, "I didn't make it" only enraged him. The party sitting directly across our wicker set up made a horrible situation better by including us in their happy occasion. It was someone's birthday and we were the only strangers invited to eat some of the cake. After all that waiting for our small order of food, it wasn't what the men had in mind so we left rather abruptly. We left for familiar territory, downtown Lake Geneva.
