Been wanting to check this place out for a minute, and finally got the chance yesterday. My wife and I are both really big on sushi, and seafood so wth both of them at the same place how could this not go right? I hate reviewing the interiors of restaurants, because what do I really know about interior decorating? I just know that is was clean, and wasn't over done. To my recollection one side had windows, and the other had a net with different sea animals on it. Both sides had booths, and there were tables in the middle. We sat down, and went over the menu's. They offer all you can eat sushi which you just check off what you want on a menu, and give it to the server. My wife actually got all you can eat sushi and said that the sushi was really good. However from my observation I didn't like how the staff members stood at the bar near our tables, seemingly keeping tabs on who ate what. They definitely weren't there to refill drinks, or removed any unused items from the table, because we had to ask them to do so multiple times. I will also point out that there is a clause in the all you can eat sushi that states you can't share, and if you do they can charge you full price for what you've eaten. Prior to my wife getting her food one of the servers made a big deal about pointing out to my wife that she would be charged for any food she didn't eat, and was unreasonably stern about saying he would charge us full price. Which made him look like a jerk when she pointed out that he wasn't holding her order form, but was holding the one from the party of about 12 that was sitting next to us. I ordered the #2 Signature steam bag, and it was also really good. I got the garlic butter sauce, with medium spice. The more the seafood sit in the sauce the better it got. I started to just unpeel everything and leave it in the sauce at one point. My son ordered the chicken strip combo. He wasn't big on it because he didn't like any of their dipping sauces. We asked for ranch, but there was an obvious language barrier between us and the server that i mentioned was watching from the bar. We asked him a few things during the course of the meal, and every time he would just point at random items on the menu, and mumble. We asked if they had a kids meal, and he pointed to the appetizers, and fried food. We asked for ranch dressing, and he pointed to the appetizers, and fried food sections. We asked him to remove some of the empty cups from the table, and he refilled everyones cups without removing the empty ones. All that to say that, if you like honey mustard or ketchup the chicken tenders were actually fire in my opinion. I know someone will read this and think that i'm going over board about explaining how the staff watched my wifes sushi, but i'm not. The second my wife lifted the last piece of sushi into her mouth, dude walks over and drops the check on the table while she was still chewing it. Overall I think the food here was delicious, but I think the staff needs to be trained better. It felt like they were just looking for any reason to upcharge us for the sushi as if I didn't spend 50 bucks alone on my steam bag. I do understand that people will come in and try to get over, but why try to nickel and dime people who come in and spend there money. If you gotta have that level of security to watch people, then you might as well not even offer it. read more

Get the sushi, pass on the boiled seafood. Even during COVID times, Pier 99 is serving quality unlimited sushi and rolls in a safe manner. Everything is made-to-order. You get a checklist of all the sushi's they provide. They actually have a very generous list. They even have sashimi (?!?) on their unlimited options, which is really rare from an unlimited sushi place. After having tried their sushi a handful of times, I would recommend not getting the tuna. You can tell the tuna is not the best quality, lacking hugely in flavor. However, the other fish are tasted great. The best things from the sushi menu that is really worth trying are their Chef's specialty roles. All their rolls were delicious and they do not skimp out on the amount of fish per roll. My favorite is their "Amazing Roll" and any other rolls with their temprua shrimp inside. Now... a minor comment on their seafood boil. I ordered it once for pick up and was pretty disappointed. They had a lot of "filler" meats in the boil (aka sausage) when I was expecting more seafood. That was my first and the last time I ordered boiled seafood from them. To end on a high note, as long as I'm in the area, I will be making visits to Pier 99 for their unlimited sushi and recommend others to give it a try! This is restaurant is a hidden gem. They have the best sushi, Singapore noodles, and Cajun shrimp fried rice I have ever tasted. They are often not busy so the service is great. They have all you can eat sushi which is a plus. If you are thinking about getting some great seafood or sushi, please look no further. Pier 99 is a hidden little spot, but it's definitely worth trying if you like really good tempura, fries and fried shrimp. The service there is decent...meaning professional, but lacking in personality which prevents me from dining inside. Dine in service requires a personal touch for me and if I can't get it, I won't dine in. Prices here are VERY reasonable and the portions large. I've seen the sushi and other dishes while waiting for my orders and they look tasty and fresh. But did I say the tempura is really good? I've been several times and can't get past ordering the same thing. The portion is large with succulent pieces of broccoli, carrots, green beans, and sweet potatoes and if you order it with shrimp, they're large and delicious as well. How they achieve such crunch without a trace of oil is amazing. The dipping sauce is necessary to truly appreciate and elevate the tempura. The fried shrimp basket and fries is good but I was glad I took it to go bc the cocktail sauce is a tad on the sweet side for me. Tasty hush puppies too. Our family was looking for a new restaurant and Pier99 had great reviews. The staff was friendly and the food was good. We ate the all you can eat sushi and it was very fresh. We also took home shrimp fried rice that was amazing and a seafood bag that my husband loved. Now the only reason for not giving them 5 stars was the fact that we felt that we were being monitored because 1person at the table didn't get all you can eat sushi. The waitress said sever time we could not share our sushi with this person( who by the way didn't want sushi) every time she came to attend to us she was looking at his plate. It didn't upset us but it was interesting. I will return again because the food was good. read more

Sushi & service review: went in for their all-you-can-eat sushi, which is offered every day for both lunch and dinner. Definitely went in skeptical of anywhere that's serving low country seafood boil & fried foods, but my skepticism was unwarranted. The sushi was fresh and delicious and of course beautifully presented. The ordering form has a very stern warning at the top about not over-ordering and wasting food. Curious to see how they'd enforce that. Not an issue for me, as I gobbled up everything they offered. Impressed, too, that the all you can eat includes salad and soup options, as well as other starters. My lone complaint was the service; our sushi took a very long time to arrive, as did our second round of drinks (just sake and a glass of wine). We were done with our food by the time the round arrived. Fortunately we were not in a rush. The place was not packed by any means, though. On that note... if you have the option and are dining there in the evening, ask to be seated along the netting wall, not the window wall! If the latter, one member of your party will be staring directly into the setting sun! I had to put on my sunglasses toward the end of the meal; it was blinding. Please restaurant gods, keep this space occupied by Pier 99... I know it has had bad luck in the past, but break the curse and keep this amazing seafood in Crofton! We ordered to-go for my wife's b-day (she wanted seafood), and we were NOT disappointed! We had the #1 combo, which was 1/2 lb of snow crab legs, 1/2 lb of shrimp, 1/2 lb of sausage, corn, potato, and broccoli in a mild spicy garlic butter sauce. It's hard to describe. I'd say it's close to a "low country boil" or "crawfish boil" but the sauce might actually be the star here! TONS of garlic, a velvety buttery sauce, and just the right amount of spice. It's kind of a strange amalgam of a standard seafood boil and a garlic butter sauce. You know what, I don't need to describe it beyond that. It's just amazing. The seafood was hot and fresh and VERY tasty. The veggies were great distractions too! Also... HUGE portion! We didn't know what to expect, but a combo per person is way too much! LOL! We had plenty of leftovers afterward. Not that we're complaining about getting multiple meals out of our dinner, nor having to face the prospect of those delicious vittles being leftovers the next day. I ordered online and we didn't have any issues with the accuracy or the order itself. The staff quickly greeted me and had the order ready to go when I arrived. I really hope this place stays where it is for a long time to come. I know the space has had a couple of vendors already, so here's hoping we can break the streak. I know we'll do our part. :) P.S. The "half-pound" of each item was probably an understatement. There's no way we only had 8 ounces of each of those items. The shrimp were sizable and there were MANY of them. I went to this location thinking it was a cajun restaurant, but after opening their book cover it was really a nice sushi hidden gem. Like their AYCE (All You Can Eat) sushi served at a valuable price. I really love their salmon and white tuna sashimi as well! The staff are nice and really attentive to the customers like us. They can be busy at times as usual and as best they could. If going for AYCE, please only order what you can eat. It's nice and inexpensive place to go for sushi. I've been here a few times and haven't had any complaints. Service is pretty cool, never had a bad experience in that manner. My only negative experience was today which is why i gave it 3 stars, can't let one bad experience hurt them. My sushi today was worrisome when I received it. It looked off for so many reasons, I'll spare the details because i don't believe this is the norm. In addition to delicious seafood boil, I can now recommend Pier 99's all-you-can-eat sushi buffet. I do not make such a recommendation lightly; I have been burned by many sushi buffets in the past. Nevertheless, I have had Pier 99's buffet several times now, and I have not gotten sick yet (knock on wood). I think the crucial difference is that Pier 99 makes the sushi fresh to the customer's order whereas other sushi buffets leave the sushi out on the buffet table (at least, the "smorgasbord style" was the prevailing practice prior to COVID - maybe we'll get improved food safety as a long-term benefit from the pandemic?). read more

I like it here I thought it would be a bigger space but it's nice especially if you are into sushi and seafood. From what I saw mostly people are here for the all you can eat sushi. I ordered the yellowtail, great Alaskan roll and the volcano roll. I like a little spice in my rolls but surprisingly I was really feeling the yellowtail with wasabi on top. On the menu though it says you can't take it home which I don't think that's fair especially if I paid for it. I had like 4 pieces left I wanted to take home for later but I was so stuffed could not even put it close to my mouth. The fried calamari was not the best I had but I don't like fried food anyway. My husband and I frequent Pier 99 often and always order their unlimited sushi. For the price, you can't beat it. There's always plenty of available parking and the restaurant is usually not full or crowded when we go. The staff is friendly and provide great customer service. The one star deduction is simply from the sauce that's provided with the mozzarella sticks that is always nasty. We thought it was a one off when we first started coming her but nope. You're also able to order Chinese food from a separate menu if you're not interested in the all you can eat option. We usually order noddles for our one-year old while we enjoy the sushi. Ordering is simple, you'll get a paper menu and mechanical pencil to mark your desired food options. Once completed, the server takes the menu and starts bringing you out your appetizers. Went for AYCE sushi and well worth it! I felt so full afterwards. My favorite appetizers are the crab Rangoon and gyoza. The hush puppies are good but I would not recommend unless you're in a big group or else you will get full fast since it comes in 10 pieces. An appetizer to avoid: fried calamari (not pictured here) Any roll that says spicy is not really spicy which I like since I can't tolerate spice that well. The sashimi are cut into nice thick pieces. I would recommend to start off ordering little first to not waste food and to get the special rolls over the regular rolls. Came twice in a week. Pretty decent seafood boil. Had medium spice house sauce which is my go-to at any place but had to get the 'hot' this time as the spice is pretty mild. It's advertising "all you can eat Cajun seafood and sushi" which is misleading because it's ONLY all you can eat sushi not seafood and the quality of the sushi is very poor / cheap. Not at all worth the $ They also required a reservation and when we arrived there was literally NOBODY there and the host made us wait to enter until we confirmed our reservation. W We ate for an hour and during that time only 1 other party showed up. So what was the point? Everything here was meh. Our waitress wasn't rude but didn't seem interested in serving us. We got the all you can eat sushi. Our first order, the Baltimore roll came out very quickly and was decent. The crab they used was imitation. After we finished our first roll, we waited almost 15 minutes trying to get our waitresses attention to order another roll. I love these types of spots and I'm very excited another one of seemingly good quality has opened up. My family and I shared some food for a weekend dinner. We got the chicken tender box, Combo #1 bag, and the lemon cake and fudge cake to try. The chicken tender basket with fries: Lightly battered and nicely fried. The fries were not overly seasoned. Overall, taste and quality were great. 5/5. Combo #1 bag: Flavoring was the Pier 99 special seasoning/very spicy. This is the only thing that brought my review down to a four. The quality of the seafood is better than all of the other Cajun spots in the area. The quality of seafood, food overall is a 5/5. The bag combo quality and quantity were great. Came with broccoli, sausage, half a potato, egg, shrimp and snow crab (all were great). The only thing that brought this review down for me was the SALTINESS. The seasoning was EXTREMELY salty. Had a very unfortunate experience at this establishment. Sat down to eat with my wife and we literally sat for 30 minutes without being offered any service. A white couple proceeds to enter the restaurant and they are seated and provided drinks immediately. This was very frustrating and disheartening to see. My wife and I felt disrespected and disheartened by this. It appears that the currency of white Americans is valued much more here than anything else. My friend and I tried this place on a Saturday night as we were in the mood for sushi and heard they had all-you-can-eat. I love me some sushi!! We entered and were promptly seated. They weren't packed but had a good number of tables filled. A mix of sushi people and crab leg orders. We ordered some sakes and went at marking down the menu. We ordered a few misos, seaweed salad, kani salad and fried calamari for some apps. We then mainly ordered sashimi but added in a yellowtail roll and a special roll. A few items were missed here and there in our orders but we were able to just reorder them. The quality was good and I think we got our money's worth! I'm looking forward to going here again as I definitely think it's worth the price if you can eat the equivalent amount to ordering a la carte. read more
