I've never complained about a restaurant before. And I hate to do it now. I used to go to Piggy's almost every week In the 70s and especially on Sundays for their brunch. After they moved we still went to their new location for several years. We've moved to Florida, but live in the Minnesota area the summer. It's been a couple of years since we've been there, but we were excited to make reservations. So here goes. The upstairs was no longer available. Alright, I can suffer in the downstairs bar area. We went there because of their fabulous ribs. After all, there email address is ribs@ piggy's.com NO ribs on the menu. It's a big deal for me. I drove 40 miles dreaming about the ribs I would enjoy. NO excuse. They don't serve them. I'll probably be back someday, but if you're a ribs restaurant then at least serve them. I'll try again next year. read more

Sat for over an hour with our server nowhere in sight. Two tables full and no servers. This is the lousiest service ever. Don't waste your time dining "upstairs." Was here for a birthday dinner last weekend. We had a reservation so we didn't have to wait at all. (yay!). The wait staff was very knowledgeable of the menu and very attentive to our table without being obtrusive. The restaurant had good ambiance, slightly dark. I got the steak combo which consisted of three grilled shrimps, bacon wrapped steak and grilled chicken with cheddar mash potatoes and a small side of broccoli. The medium steak was exactly how I liked and the shrimps were a nice addition. The only downfall was the food was on the salty side. That plate was $24 which I thought was really decent for the amount of food you get at a fancier restaurant. I saw fried calamari on the menu as well so that will be something I'd like to try next time. read more

We hadn't been to Piggy's since covid hit so were excited to go back . We ended up disappointed. The server was very nice but the service was extremely slow. Cheese curds were so tiny and stuck together in clumps. My husband ordered the pork combo - the pork was excellent but the vegetables were almost raw and the twice baked Au Gratins were dry except for some cheese melted on top. I ordered the coconut battered fried fish that that had obviously been fried and put in an oven to keep it hot because it was so dry it was hard to chew and it was tasteless. Pros: great decor, fabulous 100 yr old wood bar from a steam boat, nice menu selection, great smoked beef and ribs and BBQ sauce with the best au gratin potatoes. Cons: the lighting sconces with weird Edison light bulbs around the large dining room were extremely bright. When asked, the waitstaff dimmed them as much as they could but they were bright and distracting enough to ruin the ambiance. Two of us had to shade our eyes as we talked. People rave and rave about Piggy's, and you would think this is a place you want to pig out in, but unfortunately it was the exact opposite. We ordered takeout, and the girl on the phone said it would be about 15 minutes, but it was about 30 minutes. It was already a sweltering day, and we would have eaten inside, but we were already waiting for other people to get together that day. I had the little combo platter which had raspberry chipotle BBQ ribs, an apricot glazed pork chop, pulled pork, and bacon cheddar mash. Right off the bat, the food didn't look appealing to me, and I just had a feeling it would be disappointing. It's hard to find any entree lower than 18 bucks. Mine was $22.95. Honestly, I wouldn't have paid over 6. It just wasn't good. Everything was lukewarm and getting to the cold side. It's over 90 degrees, and we were right next door at the Home 2 Suites by Hilton.....so why was everything close to being cold? The pulled pork was dry, the ribs were TINY, and the pork chop tasted like it had liquid smoke, which is SO unappealing. Not to mention, I was not a fan of the sauces for both of those meats. The mash was probably the better tasting of the meats, and I appreciate the real mash. I would say skip Piggy's. The meal was very disappointing to me, and maybe there are other meals better than this one, but if you can't impress me on the first round, especially after how much the meal was, then that leaves an everlasting sour taste with me, that would be hard to get rid of enough for me to visit again. read more

The only reason we went to Piggy's was for the prime rib and when we questioned it not being on the menu, we were told they just changed their menu and no longer had it. We love dining at Piggy's Restaurant. Other restaurants really need to be as accommodating to dietary needs as Chris is. It is very difficult to find a restaurant that has good quality, fantastic tasting vegan foods as Piggy's. Not all vegans want to live on salads. I want a good warm meal. And Chris never disappoints with what he makes for me. I contact the restaurant ahead of time to let them know I am coming and they always have something for me. Came on a Thursday and they had the pasta bar made to order with two chefs working it seemed busy but there was not a line so it was fast the pasta choices were not to bad and the chef that prepared mine was friendly and talkative. As a vegetarian, my options are usually slim, but I almost always get some pasta variant that is delicious. Well, let's begin by I say by the bar for about 10 mins before I was acknowledged. The woman behind the bar looked at me, and proceeded to put her elbows back on the bar and have a conversation with the customers. The actual bartender came back, Mike, and he took care of me. Great guy! Explained the menu, and helped me pick my entree! Well, 15 mins later, two gentlemen walk in and the same woman jumps to help and get them drinks immediately and explain the appetizers. With a group of 20 they accommodated well and quick to meet our needs. The recommendation of a old fashion was very good. With such a large group I was happy to have a more secluded area so we didn't bother others. Appetizers came the crab cakes had a good spice but was all filler and almost no crab taste, the bruschetta had a fresh taste but the steak addition didn't exactly match up. The tiger shrimp had good flavor but the the shrimp were a smidgen chewy. The cream of asparagus gave me the feeling of a great soup to sip on a cold rainy day. For a hearty additive I would have liked pieces of asparagus. I was concerned I would being giving this four plus star restaurant a three star rating and then the entree arrived and it was amazing in presentation and taste. I ordered the famous BBQ plate that was recommended by the waitress, which was very, very disappointing. If you've ever had Texas BBQ, Kansas City BBQ, Dickey's, or well any "good" BBQ anywhere else you will think this is terrible. It also immediately started upsetting my stomach. I would not recommend that dish in anyway. EDIT: My friend ordered the BBQ as well, which he ate and said it was just ok, but after leaving the restaurant, it immediately sent him to the bathroom and upset his stomach too. I barely had a few bites and I felt it starting to upset mine so I stopped eating it. My stomach is still sour! I'm changing the review to one star now as this is unacceptable for both of us to have gotten sick. The asparagus soup was really good and our service was fast and friendly. But the best dish on the menu was terrible and made us both sick so I can't give this place any better review. The place was dead too (8pm-9:30pm) and we only saw one other table filled so I assume this place is hit or miss. Do yourself a favor and try another place in town. I've been coming to Piggy's from Chicago for at least ten years, sometimes twice a year. I have always ordered my favorite...the barbecued ribs. They are so good that I recently brought a friend along, praising the ribs. Imagine our disappointment when we discovered they've been taken off the menu! Our waiter somewhat condescendingly told us "we don't serve them anymore...except for special groups". What's the point of of a barbecue restaurant without ribs? We wound up having the pulled pork (quite good) and the pork chops (OK). First, let me start by saying that our waiter Ben was AMAZING! The staff was so gracious and courteous! This was our first time dining here as we are newly stationed at Fort McCoy. My first full night in my new "hometown" and my parents took me out for a steak. For some reason, I had been craving one for days and trying to find a good steak on the road is impossible. Enter Piggy's of La Crosse. We ate in the bar since we were in jeans and did not think we were really up for the dining room but we were given both the dining room and bar menus. We started with deep fried cheese curd (a Wisconsin staple) and they were amazing. I ordered the 12 oz sirloin which came with salad, bread stick, corn on the cob and a baked potato -- all for $15.99. The steak was tender and juicy, not stringy or fatty. Actually, there wasn't even any fat to cut off. It was amazingly good. I'm not sure I would like corn on the cob when eating with a date but family is family and I buttered it up and dove in, ahhh....good Mid Western corn is back in my neighborhood! I really enjoyed piggy's. I ordered a number of different things as "room service" from the Courtyard across the street, as I had lots of work to get done in my room. There was one minor issue, once forgetting my salad, but it was remedied immediately. In fact, they also brought a free dessert over to make up for the inconvenience. This was, in my opinion, outstanding customer service. All the employees were extremely friendly and the food was excellent. The smoked chicken was slightly dry in certain areas (the white meat!) and this could have been easily fixed with BBQ sauce on the side, but that doesn't seem to be part of their standard presentation. Add a salad with homemade dressing, flavorful vegetables, and a potato, and you've got a winning dinner. It is top-notch food. Service is also spot on. My only suggestion is that they print up a few menus with their gluten-free options. They have many gluten-free options, but they are not listed on the regular menu.
