Piggy's continues to offer great carnivore dining from beef to lamb to the tender smoked pork. Piggy's smokes their own pork in house and if you are going for the first time you have to get one of their signature boneless pork chop dinners. Start with a chilled salad or a hot soup and choose from one of the many meat and fish options and you will have a great dinner in La Crosse. read more

Went there to try a different place. Loved the atmosphere. We were a half hour early for our reservation. We made our way to the bar area and had a drink. Bartenders were friendly and helpful. Once our table was ready we went to the upstairs dining room. Our waitress was very friendly and explained everything about the place since it was our first time there. We looked through the menu. They had a great selection. The salads and soups were amazing. I had the smoked prime rib was excellent. My wife had the sirloin with mushrooms, which she said was great. Piggy's is an excellent treat in La Crosse. It's best known for it's ribs, but it has a wide selection of food (steak, chicken, seafood, and seasonal specials) that are all top notch and should keep most people satisfied. In spite of what you might think from its name, the atmosphere is great. Very clean and classy. You don't need to wear your Sunday best, but you should dress well. Piggy's has won several awards over the years for its ribs and its wine selection (I'm always a sucker for a good wine). Expect to spend at least $30 per person for a full experience (appetizers, wine, etc). It's a great place for celebrating a special occasion, but probably too expensive for most people to visit on a regular basis. I'd recommend checking it out at least once if you're in the La Crosse area. read more

Piggy's has the best soup and salad lunch in town. I don't always care for the soups that are on the line, but the salad bar is by far the highest quality and freshest ingredients. Absolutely love, love, love the salad bar. I've only eaten upstairs once. It wasn't the best steak I've ever had, but everything else was good. Service is mixed. I usually have great servers, every once in awhile I get a dud. I don't recommend sitting at the bar downstairs during lunch. The downside of it being so good is that it is also often crowded. The tall bar tables are really crammed in their pretty closely, and it's hard to not feel like you're going to bump into people CONSTANTLY. read more

Piggy's was able to accomodate our large group in the upstairs dining room on short notice during a busy conference weekend in La Crosse. The service was slow and our bills got slightly mixed up, but our server was very friendly and we never felt rushed. The food was good, though for what came out to $30 per person for dinner, we hoped for better. The only vegetarian option on the entire menu was a pasta primavera; it turned out to be linguine in a very creamy, garlicky alfredo sauce with some vegetables. Not bad, but quite similar to the accompanying soups (the meatless options were cream-of-[vegetable] style). The berry cobbler was excellent for dessert, and the cheesecakes were pretty good, considering we were in Wisconsin. Spotted Cow was on tap, $4, and delicious. read more

Been here twice for drinks and had a pretty good time. The room with the bar in it is fairly classy and I would say people are usually dressed in a kind of business casual. Pretty cool and elaborate wood bar and back of the bar (I guess its kind of like a mantle over a fireplace but for a bar? Does this have an official name??) that I dont mind checking while having a drink. The crowd in here has tended to be mid thirtys and up the times I have been here. This really isnt anything like the bars on the main strip. They have live music in here as well. Enjoyed the pulled pork sandwhich and the egg rolls which were both great. The chips (which are made in house) and the dipping sauce that accompanys them were quite tasty. Food wasn't worth the money. Our group of five ate here for dinner on 7/2. Could not order shrimp gluten free or without breading, which tells me the shrimp isn't fresh. It's a steak and seafood restaurant, and the shrimp isn't fresh? How's that? One in our group sent his pasta back because it was over-salted and the sauce tasted re-heated. Fazolis has fresher sauce. Each of the 3 soups that were provided the 2 different times I went, were delicious. Additionally you can get a GIANT half of a sandwich for $2.50. Last night our family went out for Mother's Day dinner. I'd never had their dinner before, only their lunch salad buffet which is spectacular-seriously the best I've ever seen in an AYCE salad bar! We had a reservation for 7, but had a last-minute addition which was accommodated easily! Thank you! We arrived early, and waited about 5 minutes before our table in the upstairs dining room was ready. The upstairs room is nicely appointed, and furnished so that it's not too loud even though it has really high ceilings. It is also well-lit enough for middle-aged myopic folks to actually see and read the menu! This is always much appreciated! Our tables were pushed together, as often happens to accommodate larger groups, but the tables were of different heights (meaning one person had to eat on a tilted plate) and one of them rocked so badly I had to fold up the crayon box to stabilize the table with. Our server came and explained about dinners and salads and so on and asked if anyone wanted a drink. One of our party said "ice water is fine, for now. I'll have wine later with dinner" ....she did not get her water (even though everyone else got water immediately) until she got her salad. The remainder of adults got our water and other beverages in a timely manner. However, those of us with re-fillable beverages got a single refill, as our server could not ever be found to request more. Forward to our salads. Everyone had a salad, and each of us thought the salad was incredibly small. The quality was superb. The dressing tasted fresh and homemade, the spices were very flavorful. The produce was clean, fresh and very tasty, the portions were just far too small. The asparagus soup was divine! It may have been my favorite part of the meal. Each of the other tables in the dining room had bread baskets on the table, which came out with the salads, but we never got such a thing. The child's drink was not brought out until just before the meal-even though we asked for it more than once after ordering it. The 6-year old was given a child's menu with not a single "signature" item on it. Piggy's prides themselves on pork preparations, yet "pigs in a blanket" was the only pork item on the list. The remainder was chicken. It's unfortunate that they haven't got a signature pork offering for children, he would have appreciated that. He ordered "Chicken Ranch and Fries" which were adequate. No offer of catsup or mustard or any other sauce for his meal, and where the "ranch" comes in remains a mystery. Half of the adults ordered prime rib, which was absolutely amazing. Perfectly smoked and tasting wonderful. Not too salty as it sometimes can get. 3 of us ordered 12 ounce prime rib, and one ordered 10 ounce. The ten ounce prime rib came, and while what came was good, I doubt there was 10 ounces, and fully 1/4 of it was a single large chunk of fat. (We took it home for the dog, and I could lay 3 quarters not overlapping on top). So that portion was not adequate. We realize some fat is appropriate, but for the price, this was way too much! The 12 ounce portions were much better in terms of meat-to-fat ratio. And the au-jus was splendid! Well flavored and not too salty. Prime rib comes with whipped potatoes, made in house (and they are awesome too!) but none of us felt the portions were enough, My dolop of potatoes would easily have fit in a a 4-ounce portion cup. Two other members of our party ordered steak, and while it was good the baked potatos came out with nothing. No buter, salt, pepper, sour cream or chives. And once our meal was served, our server vanished making it impossible to request these things. The last member of our group ordered the Portabello stuffed ravioli, and says it was perfect. No complaints there. And all of the mother's plates came with a edible orchid as a garnish. Very nice looking indeed! Our largest complaint was with the server. (Half of our party has made a living serving in up-scale dining establishments eithe rcurrently or in the past) the server was slow, did not return often enough, and forgot more than half of the requests we made. We had to re-request too many tings. For the more than $260 we spent between dinner and tip, this was profoundly disappointing. Note: we were there on a busy night, but the restaurant had several empty tables when we arrived, and was almost totally empty when we left. Final analysis: Ambiance: 4 stars (table legs and mis-matched height) Food quality: 5 stars WOMDERFUL Portion size: 3 stars ( salads, and side portions were too small) Service: awful 0 stars. So, I have been to piggys many times. For lunch, dinner, upstairs and down. The lunch buffet is quite nice. Great selection of salads and a tasty soup or two. The breadsticks are great. I recommend the herb vinaigrette for dressing. It's tangy and herby and tastes homemade. Their sandwiches are decent but nothing to write home about. My issue mainly is with their fine dining. I have never had a good meal eating their upstairs food. Sometimes served cold, sometimes seeming not fresh, the vegetables clearly out of a frozen food bag (seriously if I'm paying 30$ a plate I should not see baby carrots). Waitstaff is sometimes surly and generally the service is unpredictable. If you want fine dining in LAX, go to the Mint or Waterfront. Not Piggys. read more

Mike, in the bar, was a gem to speak with, had lots of great information about the bar, and even great suggestions about dinner. I was overwhelmed!!! Under the extremely competent direction of co-owner Tammy Rodireque, Piggy's recently catered our daughter's wedding at the nearby Grand Hotel Ballroom. The facilities at the 100 year old Ballroom are a part of its age, yet Tammy and her staff did a great job of providing a superb buffet. Many of our guests were raving about the glazed salmon, and Piggy's beef tips were so good that they have challenged and inspired my sister to create her own counter-part. Everything went smoothly, and Tammy's thoughts regarding presentation and process were very helpful in managing the overall wedding. Tammy's staff were always there, yet never seemed obtrusive. Yes, finally a great meal in La Crosse. We ate upstairs and it was almost empty which usually isn't a good sign. I had the pork chops since it is my dinning philosophy if they have a food name as part of the business name that is what you order. The pork was very good, nice flavor. The sides were a nice compliment. My husband had the pulled pork and thought it was OK but we just moved here from the south so he is kind of picky about his pulled pork. Ate here while in lacrosse for work. Party of 5, we ate upstairs in the formal dining area. It was a Monday night, after 6 pm and we were the only table. Service, food and prices were good. I ordered the tenderloin medallions with a dinner salad and side of couscous. Dinner salad tasted fresh. Only complaint, and not really a complaint was server did not inquire preferred doneness of meat. A little rare to my liking but edible. Me and my wife ate here on 10/18 and had a wonderful experience. I can't rave enough about the 24 hour ribs. So tender. And the chili glaze is unlike anything you're going to find. My wife had the pork chop and it was perfectly done. The sides (especially the whipped red potatoes). Were also very excellent. The service was attentive but not intrusive. I don't really have any nits to pick but if I had to I would say ease back on recommending the cocktails. I know you want to up your ticket, but let me make that decision.
