Spoonful after spoonful I was catapulted into a distant memory of childhood (especially with the Christmas music playing overhead). Pistachio ice cream with powdered pistachio crumbles, with a pistachio crème/paste rimmed along the inside/outside of the glass, with chocolate drizzle surprises all over. It's 4 am and I'm wired and wide awake. Suffice it to say that my iced coffee was NOT decaf as it was supposed to be. But let me start at the beginning. We've been to this shopping center to many of the businesses and restaurants over the years. So we were familiar with the area. After seeing Daren R's review, we'd bookmarked this location. The place has been open less than a year. According to one of the servers, this is the company's first location in Florida, but there are several open or soon to be open franchises in New York. The shopping center is quite popular and was busy during lunchtime. We were able to find a parking spot not too far of a walk away. We came inside and saw that there was an area to line up in to order. However, we couldn't see the menu on the wall above the counter, so we moved to the middle area -- along with four other people to read what they had to offer ... then got back in line as they did, as well. The gal at the register was a trainee and had to stop and ask someone about several things as we were trying to order. She told me the only decaf coffee they had was "regular", so I ordered an iced decaf regular, 12 ounce. I ordered a salad. My husband ordered an iced chai latte, 16 ounce, and an open faced sandwich. We paid and were given a number to place on the table. It took about fifteen minutes to get our food and drinks. The drinks came first. They were the same size even though I'd gotten a small. My cup was marked Americano, decaf, and was full to the brim. I got up and got some more ice in another cup so I had room to add sweetener and half n half (they had cream and half n half at the self serve area). The coffee was dark and strong, so I added a liberal amount of both. My salad was their signature one -- except I got it without arugula and onions. It would have been nice to have had another lettuce option. It had bacon, turkey, cucumber, tomato, and a hard boiled egg. Everything was fresh and nicely arranged. They'd forgotten to give me the croutons and the salad dressing that came with my salad. I went back up to the counter to get these. My husband liked his iced chai latte. His open faced tuna salad was okay. It came with a side of arugula and some dressing. Now that Modern Rose is no longer in the same center, they'll probably do well here. I just wish Pilar was less institutional and had a bit more warmth and personality. But I 'm glad we came to try them out. Now we know. read more

Lunch today at a bright shiny new spot where we used to visit Modern Rose and several spots for lunches and dinners. We got in line to order but couldn't read the menu board that was off to the left and could not find any paper menus to select from. After getting out of line and walking closer to the menu board, I was able to find something to try. The cashier apologized several times, stating she was training and had to step away several to ask other workers questions as we placed our rather simple orders. (Self, unsupervised training?) Awesome coffee shop! Beautiful inside with ample seating and outlets, I was able to hunker down and work remote for a few hours which was lovely. Don't be worried, there are plenty of seats and both people staying and there just for a quick visit so definitely good for everyone. The order taker was very friendly with a big smile. I ordered a garden omelet that came with some roasted potatoes and some mixed greens. It looked so pretty when it came out, that I didn't even want to eat it, however my hunger took over. It was quite tasty and a nice portion. I believe the price was around $11-12, which is fair. My friend (also a Yelper) and I like to search and find hidden coffee shop gems. I noticed Pilar in The Cove Plaza area and we decided to give them a try. I was early and when I walked in I was welcomed to a very nice ambiance, even before looking at the menu. The interior has an assortment of various types of seating ranging from simple 2-4 seat tables, high top tables, plus some couches and sofa in one corner. Wide open spacing with bright and very unique lighting. The menu had various coffees and teas along with desserts and dubai chocolate. Clean and organized layout, the menu board above was well lit and easy to read and the girl who took my order was friendly & helpful with suggestions. Extremely disappointed in my experience here at Pilar. I came here before running to an appointment, it took us 15-20 minutes to get an espresso on ice and an iced pumpkin spice. Only one person ordered in front of us so there's no reason it should've taken that long. There were multiple people standing behind the counter doing nothing. My bf wanted syrup with his espresso but told him that's not possible?? Because there was no option to charge him. Also they never asked me if I wanted whip cream on my latte or not, I would've said no but I was so over waiting for my drink I just wanted to leave. I got a cappuccino, and my husband and kids got their toasted marshmallow lattes. And they were all very good! We also got the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Stuffed Croissant and their empanada trio. The second time, my husband and I got the Biscoff Butter cookie Latte, hot version and their breakfast sandwich croissants. It was a to go order. And it was also very good! The third time, we got the Biscoff butter cookie latte cold and cappuccino. And I got the bacon egger & cheddar omelette, which was very bland in taste. The potatoes on the side had no seasoning at all. And the fourth time we went, we got their signature Dubai pistachio latte with their Dubai chocolate chip cookie and Dubai Stuffed Pistachio Croissant, . Was very delicious! 10/10 recommend! I saw this place all over social media and I definitely had to give it a try. I want to start off with all the positives. The place was very clean, bright and had plenty of seating. The staff was attentive and nice, even offering a sample of their gelato which was delicious btw! I enjoyed the cookie croissant which was a 10/10 and I really liked the breakfast tacos specifically the chicken hot honey one. The pancake had a nice cinnamon flavor to it. Everything else I tried was very underwhelming. For the entree I got the omelete and it was not flavorful, it tasted like the eggs you get for breakfast at a hotel. I received the wrong coffee, I decided to still try it because I figured I'd like it because I'm not too picky. It was extremely sweet and not for me. They were nice enough to let me get the hibiscus tea instead and I enjoyed how tarte that was. Overall, I would come back for pastries (cookie croissant) and or some gelato. There is also Wi-Fi for all those who like to work from home inside a nice Cafe. The menu is extensive and has all your favorites from an avocado toast to omelette and waffles. There's also gelato so affogato is an option. I was able to enjoy their empanadas which came in a beef chicken & Caprese version. The beef and chicken empanada were one of the best I've had in a long time and filled with chicken and beef. I also tried their squared avocado toast that came with sliced egg on top and that was also very delicious and Hardy. I also tried their mini affogato flight and those were amazing. You get to choose up to three flavors for your mini flight and the server pours the hot espresso in front of you table side. The flavors I chose for my mini affogato flight were hazelnut crunch, which was my absolute favorite, chocolate, and vanilla. They also garnish the mini affogato flight with little pastry snacks. To go I left with a giant blueberry muffin and a pau au chocolate . I can easily stay here for more than an hour and be completely in the zone. So excited I found this new local gem. It's in the cove plaza so there's a decent amount of parking. But people say not to park in the back because you will get fined. The atmosphere is very nice and chill, I could totally see myself working remotely here. I ordered an iced decaf cookie latte and it was ok. Not the best latte I've ever had but decent enough.
