These guys suck!!! Brought my tracker in for maintenance timing chain and components replacement for 1200$ heard some noise and took it back . They said pobably oil pump ??? Took it to a different shop and the checked my rig .. everything good except he questioned timing guides... fast forward another month , this morning timing chain broke... My truck wasn't running right so I took it to Pilchuck. Their diagnosis was a bad clutch so I asked them to replace it. Two days later I picked my truck up right before they closed and a few blocks away from the shop it started having trouble again. Turned out that the problem was a clogged fuel filter (really cheap) not the clutch (VERY expensive). The next morning I called the owner and told him what happened his response was that it was "due for a clutch" I replied that it needed a paint job too but that's not what I brought it in for. Had he apologized and offered to pay for the fuel filter I would have chalked it up as an honest mistake but he didn't and he had quite an attitude so I haven't gone back. Since then I've talked to so many people who had similar experiences that I don't think "honest mistake" applies. If it does they're simply incompetent. read more

Hm. Im not specifically calling the other posters liars...but I have to say I had an entirely different experience. I took my 1995 Ford Explorer in because it was having a hard start issue. They COULD have screwed me big time - charged me for a starter or heaven knows what else. I left the vehicle overnight...they called me the next day and told me that they had found a teensy leak in my radiator that made the computer read things incorrectly so it would do the "pretend to be dying" act when it would start. They said "you have to refill the radiator when it gets low directly to the radiator, not in the overflow. " I asked should I get the radiator replaced? He answered "nah, probably not - it would cost you more than the vehicle is worth..and as long as you keep it topped off, you should be fine. - the leak is really tiny"................Cost? NOTHING. ZERO. NADA. I am serious. So I don't know..maybe its because I was a local, or who knows. But it was the first time they'd ever seen me and they didn't know me from Adam....I thought they were fantastic not to gouge me, and I'll take my car back there ANY TIME! read more

If I could give negative I would. This man literally took advantage of us. Bought a car he as a mechanic, said was completely sound and in good shape. Drove it 14 miles and clutch completed gone. I and my mother have been driving manual for 30+ years. When we called he said he tow it back up and fix it. Then charged us $1200 on top of the $1400 purchase. Blue book on the car was 1100 . This guy is a robber and thief. I've heard nothing but bad stories of him. I went in to negotiate a fair deal and he was more than unwilling to do anything. On top of that, he had a mechanic beside me with a wrench in his hand for what, I don't know. All I can say is, horrible business owner with no sense of moral standards! read more

I took my car there to get a specific problem fixed. When the car was returned to me, I was charged $550.00, but when I got the car home, it had the exact same problem. They had dumped a bunch of parts into my car that I didn't need, and did not fix the problem at all. When I went back and told the owner I wanted him to take the useless parts out and refund my money, he not only refused, but insisted that the car had actually been fixed. The car is still sitting in my driveway and cannot be used. They ripped me off and were jerks about it on top of it all. I strongly recommend that you do not patronize this business. read more

This is the most unprofessional and quite frankly dirtiest business owner I have ever came a crossed. He literally is trying to extort 1200 dollars from us. We purchased a "running vehicle" from him for 1400 dollars. 14 miles later the car breaks down and we call Mike Pilchuck (OWNER) and he offers to have it towed back to his shop at his cost. He then informs us that he had to fix the clutch and for us to get her car back we now have to pay 1200 additional dollars. We would have never purchased it for 1400 if we knew the clutch was bad and needed replacing for an additional 1200 dollars. The blue book on this car is less than 1200 and that is generous. We have called and spoken to him to ask if he would at least refund part of her money so she could put toward a working and running car he said he wouldn't. We asked him to be far considering the situation, he refused and basically laughed and spit in our face. The car is still there at his shop and he claims we have to pay him this money in order to get her car back. THIS IS EXTORTION. I would give a negative star if i could but i can't post this unless i give him at least a star. Anyone that goes to this man should expect to get robbed. MIKE your soul is stained and I believe the world gives to you what you give. GOOD LUCK MIKE, I am excited to see what happens! I think that people like you are so miserable with your pathetic lives that you need to spit it on everyone you can so they can feel just shitty as you do. We've been taking our cars to Pilchuck Automotive for over 10 years, and have the utmost respect and appreciation for their work. Honest, fair prices (and a few times we were not charged at all because it was a quick fix on our 20 year-old car). Pilchuck Automotive is AAA rated, and we've always been satisfied. The shop is so busy because of the quality of their work that often we need to schedule a routine oil change. Pilchuck Automotive is also a strong supporter of our local community. read more

Mike has had my car for over a month which needed a timing belt kit and the heads reworked, They had my heads for two weeks, and all I got was excuses that were internal, not my fault. After paying him $2300.00 in cash, he did give me a little break on the price. But what did I get besides my car? Oil all over my aggregate driveway from what I assume is leaky valve covers, oops did they forget to tighten them down,LOL. Plus when I called him to let him know I was on my way back so they could tighten up the leak, he just asked for the keys and said that's all and put me back in line to be reworked. What he should have done was have the mechanic that worked on it stop what he was doing and at least looked to see i it could be fix quickly, now I have to drive it checking my oil frequently until I can drop it off after my Appointments today. Therefore think twice before taking your car to Pilchuck auto in Granite Falls, and let me not forget to mention his lousy bedside manner, the Grumpy old man thing is not good buss. read more

Car broke down and I was from out of town. Whenever I talked to the person on the phone they sounded like I was just an an annoyance. Called me with the problem saying they figured it out and it would be 400+ parts and labor. I said, "do what you have to do." Called back later saying the problem was worse and that the engine was dead. I was far away from home and wouldn't pay for them to put a new engine in. (cost more that my car purchase) Called my Mechanic to look at it and found out it was their original problem that they said and would only cost 200$ fix. (which he did) These guys are vulture scum looking to rob people from the city. Pay the extra towing to get it as far away from Granite Falls as possible. Dishonest scum... They charged me 60$ for 30min to find the problem then come up with a lie to rob me of my money. Yeah... so if you want to pay 120$ an hour for something they will screw up or tell you you need more work, go ahead.... Shame... read more

Pilchuck Automotive is a wonderful, trustworthy location. I have had them service my older Corolla for many years. They always look at the big picture and time line for "check engine" light situations, and have tried to dissuade me from more expensive fixes, when there is another route. After being a loyal customer for at least three years and having spent well into the five thousands of dollars for various autos and trucks to be repaired by Mike at Pilchuck Automotive we were shocked to be harassed, called names, stalked at work over a delay in paying $250.00. Mikes unprofessional behavior is horrendous. The man will take your money but not show any respect if there is a reasonable delay of funds and then send you, the "valued customer," to collections.
