This place was one of my go to for dinner but lately the food is not what it used to be to be. The style of food here reminds me of the village tavern. Found this hidden gem today. Great food, lots of options to choose from. If looking for a unique, casual, and fun place to enjoy a meal then this is the place to go. Great food portions that are worth the money paid. Another very strong positive is that they have amazing seafood dishes. Coconut shrimp are HUGE and they have an amazing batter. And the baked potato is gigantic and so tasty. The fried calamari is the best we have tasted anywhere (west coast to east coast). So fresh, and the batter is so light and flavorful, and it is so big, not that preboxed frozen tiny version you find in many central state restaurants. And the roast beef strogonoff, wow! I have mixed thoughts about Pilot Pete's. I was hoping that they had a good burger and I'm happy to say that the answer is "yes". The rest of the food and service? That was only ok. I will give it 3 stars because it was a good burger. First of all, this place is really cool! It's in a small regional airport and had big windows that looked out onto the runways. The decorations inside were all aviation and kind of fun! It was perfectly themed. However, the floor was a bit dirty and it looks like it's starting to show it's age. My buddy wanted to try the lobster salad nachos because they're known from TV. The presentation was good as there was meat, cheese, and peppers on each chip. However, I thought the lobster and the congealed cheese was a little gross. It was a good idea, but the taste wasn't there. I also got a French onion soup which was only ok. It was a bit bland. Luckily, I ended with the highlight of the meal which was The Danger Zone burger which was their $100 hamburger with onion strings, hot sauce, and garlic. That was actually quite good. I would come back for the burger. My Mai Tai was also pretty good! As for the service, it was ok. The guy was fine, but he disappeared for awhile. Also, instead of coming back with a pitcher of water to refill, he would bring out new glasses of water. It was just.....odd Will I be back? Maybe, but probably because my niece and nephews would want to come back. There are so many options in Schaumburg so this is likely a "one and done" for me. This is a fun restaurant to come and visit with children or out of town guest. If you have the time and the patience to wait for a window seat it's really worth it because you can see planes land and take off. Make sure you ask for a table by the window. We just wanted a booth so we didn't really care where we sat, there was no wait at all to be seated. The restaurant is decorated with airplanes hanging from the ceiling and other nostalgic airport themed decorations. The food is affordable and the portions are generous. My husband ordered the Country Fried Chicken and it was amazing, the breading was crispy and flavorful and the chicken was tender and perfectly cooked. This place is amazing! We were able to get close to the windows and the party room was empty so my daughter was able to see the planes. They also decorated the inside in aviation. Our waitress was amazing without being overbearing. The food wasn't bad at all. Got the garlic cheese curds which were delicious. My daughter got the kids cheese pizza and they actually serve a decent sized pizza for kids. My mom and I got the friday fish fry that comes with hush puppies, fries and Cole slaw. All delicious! If I were grading on style alone, Pilot Pete's would probably find its cruising altitude north of four stars. The decor and theming, down to the airline seats in the waiting area and the vintage phone booths, all make you feel like you're somewhere special. And you are! You're looking out the window onto a regional airport runway, for Pete's sake! No offense to our esteemed Pilot. But where things lagged a bit for me was in the service. Even though there was an understandable wait for a table around the lunch hour, I did appreciate that we could get a text when a table was ready, freeing up time to head downstairs into the mini museum. But the waiting endured AT the table was less enjoyable. It's like when you're on the plane but have to wait your turn to taxi to the runway- like "I'm in the place where things should be happening, we should be gaining in momentum here! And yet we sit." The menu can be a bit pricy, depending on where your eyes fall, and if there is a vegetarian in your traveling party, they'll only find a few options beyond the familiar "well, we have salads!" And the food I got was fine. Good. If I lived closer, I'd likely come back every now and then to try a smattering of other dishes. The name is pretty telling -- Pilot Pete's is a restaurant located right next to the Schaumburg Regional Airport. The whole place is decorated in an aviation theme, from commercial airplane seats in the waiting area to small planes, propellers and other paraphernalia hanging from the high ceiling (we guessed the building was previously a hangar) and on the walls. My party of three had about a 20-minute wait to be seated for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. Once we were seated, our server quickly took our drink orders as we perused the menu. I ordered the salmon cantina bowl, which came with salad or soup. I chose the chicken tortilla soup. The soup wasn't as spicy as I would have liked, and contained not much chicken. I still enjoyed it, but wouldn't go out of my way to have it again. The salmon cantina bowl was large -- in addition to rice and a small amount of black beans, it featured a large portion of salmon as well as sliced avocado. The onions and garlic in it had really no flavor, but the salmon was good. I ended up adding the cup of salsa that was intended for the accompanying tortilla chips as a dressing for the rice bowl. That added some much needed flavor. The menu is large and includes several salads and sandwiches I'd like to try. I'll probably try a different entree next time. While the food was good, the atmosphere was really the highlight of this meal for me. I enjoy quirky places and there's just so much to look at at this place. The overall experience was good. Got a chance to try the November holiday drinks which were FIRE. I didn't realize how long the wait would be but it was pretty good. It is pretty crowded though so I wouldn't come for an intimate situation. This is more like a diverse, friends and family kind of establishment (restaurant wise). Our experience overall was OK. The view was great. We were seated in a small room in the back that had great views of the planes coming and going. The service was excellent, but the food, not so good. I had the pulled pork sandwich which was good. With it I had the sweat potato fries, which were horrible. They were cold and chewy. I'm very conflicted about this review. Pilot Pete's did some things very well, and they did some things that needed some improvement. First off, I love the theme. The restaurant is located on the top floor of the Schaumburg Airport and has fun airplane themed decor and decorations everywhere. We could see the runway from our table, but unfortunately, we didn't see any takeoffs or landings while we were there. Our meals came with soup. My husband and I got the cream of potato soup. This was bland. This is the only time I was tempted to add salt to my soup. The server took my soup before i was finished with it. THIS IS MY BIGGEST PET PEEVE!!! I HATE IT WHEN SERVERS DO THIS!!! I had the chicken and waffles sandwich while my husband had the vegetarian calzone as entres. Several items on the menu claimed to be famous and featured on TV shows. The chicken and waffles sandwich was one of those items, and I have to say it was amazing. The waffles were so sweet that no syrup was needed. The chicken tenders and bacon and honey mustard sauce added to the deliciousness of the sandwich. My husband's calzone was also very good. The other thing that they did poorly was that another, large table ordered and got their food after our table placed it's order. I'll go back to Pilot Pete's, but I'm hoping that some of these issues are fixed by the time I go back. read more

Everything I have ordered here are delicious and large portions. Been trying a different appetizer whenever we come here. This time we had the combo platter and I really like the won ton nachos so crisp and airy. Their French onion soup is so cheesy with the right amount of onions in them. Pot roast I recommend to try. My husband got the pot roast stroganoff and I got the pot roast sandwich. It comes on a pretzel bun and I substitute the fries with the loaded baked potato. We were too full and didn't get dessert. It was nice to see all the airporty type stuff and the planes and decor around the restaurant. The menu is extensive - chicken fingers were pretty good, and plentiful. Made a visit on St. Patrick's Day & was surprised with a bagpiper! That's was really cool for my 2 year old to witness. The food was not great and my ribs came cold. Didn't complain as they were busy, it's a holiday. The salad came with one cucumber and one tomato exactly. That gave me a giggle, again didn't complain. Hair strands came with the fish we ordered as well. Fries were super oily.Don't come hungry, come for the planes and decor. If you have a baby that loves planes and that's why you're going, CALL and speak to them for a window seat. Stopped in on a whim this Friday and tried the Wednesday/Friday fish fry. A tasty meal. At 2:30 in the afternoon the place was packed, but were seated immediately none-the-less. The wait for food was short, our waiter par excellence in every way, the atmosphere was more than fun and pretty above average for an airport restaurant. A ceiling decorated from wall to wall in large scale flying model aircraft, dripping in aviation memorabilia and an actual RLU-2 Breezy lightplane hanging from the ceiling. Can't beat the view any where near the large bay overlooking the operations ramp and runway with sport planes of every type coming and going as we ate. I've been here before and my wife and I definitely consider this one of the best places to enjoy fine food and the terrific atmosphere. read more

The service was extremely good, the lady who helped us out was very nice and friendly. She spoke Spanish which made the whole experience even better for my parents (they don't speak English). It was surprising to see Spanish speakers in the place since it is very American as I would describe. The ambiance was good and to be honest the place is extremely nice and full of life for all ages. The themed atmosphere makes it feel more inviting and fun. The food was very good, the changing menu is something that makes the place interesting. When we went they were offering some kind of salmon because of saint Patrick's day. The salmon was wet and tasty. I ordered a burger and it was surprisingly delicious and big. You are facing an active runway, with all manor of small planes and helicopters flying about. The staff is great and more than willing to accommodate most requests and correct and wrong orders. If you are lucky and get a table right next to the window, then you get to see flights and Cessnas taking off and landing. Heading straight at the entrance will lead to the restaurant and the basement will lead to the regional airport museum. As it has been more than 5+ years since I have been to this place, I decided to go to this place with my friend. By the time we reached the restaurant, all the seats were occupied, and we were asked to give our names at the register so that they would let us know whenever the table was ready. We also got updated about our table availability through text messages. As we had enough time, we went to visit the museum. As it has been a while the experience was new to me and in some areas, it just reminded me of the scenes from Top Gun Maverick. The basement had the airport lobby which was open to the public. Refer to my pictures to see the list of things we had access to at the airport lobby. They had a seating area where you could see different flights on the runway. It was a thrilling experience for me. They also had pilot gear and small flight parts on display. One can also get information on pilot training. As we were looking around, we finally got the text message that our table was ready. Without any further delay, we headed to the restaurant. By the time we reached the register, we thought we were lucky as there was a long queue. The front desk person escorted us to our table but unfortunately it was a regular booth which was closer to the bar. The whole restaurant had airport/flight decor. They had huge toy flight hangings and photos of different flights on the walls. The whole place had a good vibe. After a while, the waiter handed over the menu. As I was reviewing the menu, it was sad that they had limited vegetarian options. All the Pete's Signature dishes had meat in them. Upon reviewing I was able to order Quesadilla from Appetizers and Spinach Calzone based on my friend's suggestion from the Salads, Soups, Calzones, and Pan Bakes sections. First, we were served with Quesadilla where it had colby jack cheese with Pete's Pico De Gallo folded inside a tortilla and then it was grilled. It was served with a side of homemade guacamole, sour cream, salsa, and Pico De Gallo. The tortilla was thoroughly grilled with the right amount of cheese in it and tasted good. Then, later we got the Calzone with a knife for cutting through, with marinara sauce on the side. The Spinach Calzone had spinach, tomato, onion, fresh basil, and garlic. The Calzone was big in size and looked like a baby turtle shell ha-ha. As I was dissecting through, the cheese was oozing from the Calzone. It tasted like pizza and my first experience was memorable. At some point it got difficult for me to finish but being a pizza lover, I was able to finish it. My friend had Avocado Salmon Salad and he said it tasted good. Overall, the restaurant was good. People with kids and big families would really enjoy this place. They also had a full bar, but I never got a chance to peep in and try it out. The customer service was good. They have to really figure out the cooking of a medium rare burger! Server Sandy very friendly and attentive. We have been here many times and enjoy the ambiance and the food. I love burgers and it seemed to be getting better, but this was a really medium burger,no pink to be seen. The problem with reordering, which I have done, is by the time you get your burger everyone else is finishing. A little awkward!I did not mention the burger this time till the end but Sandy did not seem surprised! The fish and chips were good and Sandy kindly split an order for friends we had with us.
