When I was using the handy dandy Yelp app to search for a pet groomer for my kitty I came across PinUp Pets and was in disbelief...67 reviews that are all 5 stars?! I mean, no business is THAT good, right? Wrong! PinUp Pets is THAT good! I'm pleased to be their 68th 5 star review! My old ass cat (17 years old) secretly sits at home and plots against me, I'm sure. His most recent plot was figuring out a way for me to spend more money on him, so he stopped grooming himself well and developed some crazy matted fur. I tried to remove some of the mats myself...that turned into a $400+ emergency vet bill. Lesson learned. Anyway, I sought out a good pet groomer in the Chandler area and found PinUp Pets and am so glad I did. Melissa did an AWESOME job on him! My main concern was getting his mats off, I didn't expect him to look pretty or for the 'fur' cut to look halfway decent but Melissa CLEARLY cares about her grooming and treats it like a work of art. She got all the mats off and made him look very good...and did so without any nicks, cuts, or razor burn. I was more than pleased. I seriously can't recommend this place enough! He's a little apprehensive of new situations and just hates being groomed in general. I brought in some photos of cuts that I liked and we talked about some areas of matting that would need to be shaved down (like his ears) which I was 100% okay with because mats get to a point where it is literally too painful for the dog to brush it out. My boy was super nervous and wiggled out of his harness trying to get away from the groomer when we first arrived, but when I picked him up his attitude was completely different. NOPE. We will never return. I don't understand the inconsistencies in their reviews?! I especially don't understand the 5 stars. This was our 3rd visit. First visit was ok...except our puppy wasn't even a year old and they plucked his ears (no idea why or that was going to be done). This irritated him for days...shaking his head etc. 2nd visit didn't go so well.....we were told he was ready for pick up (nothing else) so we headed over there - it's about 40 minutes from our home. We get there and he's only 1/2 done! But this wasn't until after we paid! Why didn't they tell us he wasn't actually 'done'. They said he was 'temperamental' so they couldn't finish him and that we could bring him back in a few days. Whatever. 3rd and last visit. We took him in knowing ahead of time he had some mats. Ok...so he was shaved down to his skin on most of his entire body?! (pics) He has severely irritated skin around his bottom (didn't post pic to protect his privacy LOL)...to the point he can't even get comfortable! And what the heck happened to his ear?! (pic) Before he went, there was nothing wrong with him...full of life and fun. (pics) He's been whimpering, shaking his head, and has been very 'skiddish' ever since he got home. I just recently got into the dog groomer thing, I've had my dog a little over a year. I have tried a few groomers and have been most pleased with Pin Up Pets. They seemed to know how much to trim my buddy without trimming too much. Just right! Which means they listened to me when I told them what Iwanted. Annie and her crew really do a great job! My border collie doesn't usually like to be groomed and usually shows her protest, but has no issues when groomed by Annie. This place is really nice, clean and safe for your pet. I have used this salon for a couple years and normally have great success however yesterdays experience was less than ideal. When arriving the employee who checked us in asked if the pups had been there em before (shouldn't that be on their chart)? I asked for my golden to be cut shorter than normal due to the heat and the fact their hair grows back extremely fast. Someone called a bit later giving advice not to go short due to shave shock which I appreciated and agreed to go as short as naturally possible... I had two dogs there - 1 came back looking good and the other looks as though not much was done. His hair is still rough, leg hair looks like built in capes they are so long and the hair in his tail still uneven. Seems as though the overall experience has really gone downhill read more

Update to my review: although Emily gives good haircuts the attitudes that this place now has has forced me to find a new groomer that actually appreciates the business that my friends and I give them. My daughter has been crying for 3 days about the haircut/shave that her dog received on Friday. It was Lumi's first haircut at salon. I called the day before and they were able to get an appt for the next day. I explained she was a skiddish Malti-poo puppy. They said Matt is great with dogs like this. When I arrived I spoke with Matt about how we wanted her hair cut. I showed him the example and we discussed that she had some matting on her back from where she had been wearing a sweater. He said that it wasn't too bad but would need to be cut short to get the matting out. I said that's fine, but can he just trim her hair on her face and ears, since they weren't matted. He said yes, and that when I picked her up he would show me the comb and brush "tools"that he uses for Malti-poos. They called me when she was done. When my daughter (who suffers from anxiety) and I went into get her she (Lumi) was still in the back, a lady came out and said she would get me rung up. I paid $52. 1st I could see Matt standing in the back. 2nd I said "Hi" and Matt replied "HE did fine. HE wasn't scared at all." 3rd My daughter whispered why does he keep calling HER a HE? The lady went and got Lumi and my daughter whispered to me, Ughhhh is that my dog? I made light of it as I didn't want her to have a full blown panic attack. I whispered, it will grow back. Matt was still semi hiding in the back. I yelled back at him, saying you said you would show me your "tools' so I can get the right comb and brush for home. He reluctantly came out. I think he thought I was going to yell at him. I thought to myself, this is a teachable moment to my daughter, not to yell at him as it wasn't going to bring the hair back. I know it will eventually grow out. I even tipped him. My daughter was highly disappointed as her puppy now looks like a rat. I posted same pics on my FB and titled it, DONT LAUGH. I received over 80 comments, which lead me to realizing this is really unacceptable. Most said I should demand a refund. I had read prior good reviews here about Pin Up Pets. When I went back and reread them I see that other people had same problem there. read more

I don't know what changed- but I will never go to this business again. I have come here multiple times and usually, the same woman greets us and after-he is fine and great cut etc. My Westie has not been the same since his last grooming. A guy who I had never seen before greeted us this time and I didn't see the other people I usually saw. When I got my Westie home- He gagged and chocked ongoing for 3 weeks. The loop around his neck must have been so tight it was choking him and bruised his larynx. He is 10 yrs old and because of someone cutting his nails wrong when he was a puppy- he HATES his nails being cut. I warn them that he needs special care when you get to his nails. Other than that you can trim him without even using the loop by voice commands. When I got him back- the trim was ok but his nails weren't even trimmed- so not sure what went on but he now shakes at the sound of a loud male voice and if you clap your hand loud- he runs for his crate. I called them to see what went on. I got the same guy -He said they even use a special loop that doesn't hurt the throat and that he didn't remember him at all and said if I need to go to a vet- to give him a call back. I never write reviews but for this place I will. I would NEVER recommend this groomer to anyone. We have a goldendoodle & Bernadoodle we brought in for hair cuts. Both were fine before walking into this establishment. We drop them off & don't get a call until 4 1/2 hours later that they are ready. Upon arrival the groomer is telling me my Bernadoodle has an "ear infection" because he keeps shaking his head. Which I thought was weird as my dog didn't walk in shaking his head or indicating he had any sort of infection. However, I quickly paid and left. Once I arrived home I continued to watch my dog & noticed he was shaking his ears a little but nothing out of the ordinary. Friday morning is when the real problem started- my dog started developing large crusty blood spots on the ends of his ears. At this point I Immediately brought him to the vet where they stated the groomer CUT him and the cuts got infected. Ridiculous that I dropped my dog off in the hands of groomers I thought would care for him & instead injured him. Your better off going to Petsmart then this place & that's saying something. read more

She was not aware of the incident as she was not there. I did find out that you really have to be very specific of what you want your dog to look like.
