Both my sister and I stayed at Rancho Reposo in the late 70's as kids, and some of the other cabins in the 80s as teenagers. All that remains are faded photos and a ton of memories, so this past weekend was full of nostalgia. We introduced people to someplace new and flooded a few memory banks with new adventures and walks on the beach. The rental process was super easy, the accommodations were all that we remembered, and our pup loved it too! The house was pretty well stocked with supplies, so a quick trip to the local grocery store got us everything else we desired. This was truly a flawless weekend away and was exactly what our mom would have appreciated. I think we're all committed to returning every year, as we did as kids.

From a prospective client/ property owners viewpoint: Why on earth would anyone choose to use a…read moreproperty manager that does the bare minimum (all online/ automated) but most importantly has no interest in meeting prospective tenants in person?? I own a few properties in Silicon Valley, which I manage myself, and I absolutely prefer to meet my prospective tenants in person (to better get a sense of whom the applicant is, as I truly care for my home). From a prospective tenants view: I initially introduced myself in a "resume" style email and asked to meet the property manager Matt Collins, whereas I was directed to an automated system. I viewed the property through the automated system and reported back to Matt that I had liked the home. He then encouraged me to apply for the property which I promptly did. The entire process from viewing to application was online, automated, which I understand is becoming standard these days- but found it odd could not get the property manager on the phone nor did he have any interest in meeting me person. He did however reply somewhat prompt to my emails. After a few days I asked for an update and he noted he was sorting through multiple applications. Then was told shortly after another applicant was selected (someone also very qualified, but whom had submitted an application before me). Very curious why would this company encourage applicants to continue to apply at the point in time where they already had a qualified candidate (or multiple)? It makes me question whether they are "selectively" discriminating between qualified applicants or simply capitalizing on the multiple application fees. For reference I am a homeowner/ property manager in the Bay Area, and recently moved here for work. I have a 798 credit score, and have an income that is 4x + the rent of the property I applied for. I am also a meticulously clean person, a non smoker, and have stellar references. I feel like I was given the total run around and time wasted chasing a lead on a property that was "already taken". Not the worst PM company in the area, but definitely far from the best, nor someone whom I would trust with my home based on their bare minimum work ethic and screening methods.

Absolutely unacceptable experience…read more Pacific Grove Rentals canceled my confirmed reservation twice, both times claiming a "pricing error." Not once, but twice. At that point, it stops feeling like a mistake and starts feeling like a complete disregard for customers and their travel plans. I had already invested time planning my trip and relied on the reservation being honored. Instead, I was left scrambling to find alternative accommodations while rates elsewhere had increased. A confirmation should mean something. Apparently, with Pacific Grove Rentals, it doesn't. What is most concerning is the lack of accountability. Rather than standing behind a confirmed booking and making the situation right, the reservation was simply canceled, leaving me to deal with the consequences. That is not how a reputable vacation rental company operates. The entire experience felt unprofessional, unreliable, and incredibly frustrating. If you value your vacation plans and don't want to risk having your reservation canceled after you've already made arrangements, I would strongly recommend booking with a different company. A company's true character is revealed when something goes wrong. Based on my experience, Pacific Grove Rentals failed that test completely.

When you give them your deposi, do not assume you are getting it back. We lived in this house (510…read moreCarmel Av in Pacific Grove) for $4,500 per month for over two years and they kept a large chunk of our deposit, despite the place being cluttered with lots of dirty items from previous renters. Every morning, you could hear the neighbor coughing at 5am, so we slept poorly. None of tvs worked, but then they blamed us for it--not a 20th century smart tv. If you don't want to lose your deposit and do want to get good sleep, do not stay here. I am writing to formally dispute the $1,430 deduction from my security deposit for cleaning services, including carpets and windows. Under California Civil Code §1950.5, landlords may only deduct for cleaning necessary to return the unit to the condition it was in at move-in, excluding normal wear and tear. After two years of tenancy, standard carpet wear and light dust are to be expected. Unless there was damage or extreme filth -- which I contest -- these cleaning charges appear excessive and unjustified.

I made reservations to…read morestay at the Seven Gables, it's been years that I've passed by thinking "that looks like a cool place to stay". So with Valentines in mind...check in at 4 but they sent a text saying our room was ready at 11 or so and asked what time might we expect you? My timing was four and that's about when we arrived. It's a bit complicated but the signage was clear and there were a couple of parking spaces right by the check in office. Wow what a place Old Victorian and absolutely beautiful inside. Check in was easy and fun, we could keep our car where it was parked. There were small socializing events, a champagne pour at 5, cookies at 7...Our room was just off the parking area with no stairs to climb. We were also close to the breakfast spot. (starts at 8-10) Our room was well a large bedroom, tall queen size bed, a very large bathroom, with a Great shower (water pressure) and rainfall shower head. Three large windows gave us a good view of the bay, the window shades were thick enough to block out most of the light. The mattress was super comfortable, we slept well. We took an Uber to the old pier and had dinner, it was very quiet in town, perfect. Free breakfast always has me wondering but today this was a very nice breakfast, egg soufflé, hash browns, lots of real fresh fruit, croissants, various breads, oatmeal, various topping and cereal. Hit flavorful coffee, juices, yogurts...good stuff. The stay was pricy for the off season but sometimes ya gotta spend a few bucks too enjoy the finer things in life. The building is centrally located right in the heart of Pacific Grove, Guest parking is safe and secure in underground gated parking. The units have been remodeled since our last stay and they are spacious and beautiful. Accommodations are immaculate and quiet with beautiful views! Kim, the office manager, who handles checking everyone in and out, is so friendly and helpful, too. She keeps everyone happy and everything moving smoothly. In short, I can't wait to return to the coast and to stay here again!!

At the time of my booking, Monterey county had not decided to shut down so I was able to keep the reservation during the entire week I was there even though the day after I arrived, no restaurants were open for in-person dining. (What luck!) The resort is very nondescript. You don't even know that you have arrived because the signs aren't displayed very conspicuously and the building shares space with some other businesses, including a restaurant on the ground floor. There are also no designated check-in spaces in front where you can park & check in. I had to call the front desk to tell them I had arrived at 11:58 AM (after a tiring 6 hour drive). The front desk rep (I forget her name, but she was a redhead), who seemed very annoyed, told me that I was lucky that she was at the desk because she was just leaving for lunch & there would have been no one to greet me in her place! (My first sign that the service at this place would be below expectations!) I asked her where I could park. She told me that she would meet me at the parking garage gate which could only be accessed by a remote control fob which she would have to give me. I met her with my car at the gate as she requested. She handed me through my car window a Ziploc bag with what she said was "all I need to know about the hotel" and proceeded to leave. I quickly asked her if she could spend a little more time to explain a few things to me so I could get better oriented in this place having just arrived from 400 miles away; specifically as to where I could park, where my room was situated, where the elevator was, etc. It wasn't even clear how to open the gate with the fob. She very hurriedly & very annoyedly rattled off a few selective answers to my questions & went on her way. I had to struggle to rip open the Ziploc bag & read the instructions while I was stuck outside the gate of the parking garage with people waiting behind me...... This wasn't the friendly first class greeting I was expecting from a resort that is supposed to be a "Premier Resort" according to Interval International. It turns out that the garage is the only way to access the hotel, which had no lobby and no direct access from the street, which was very odd! This means that you have to carry around the fob everywhere you go, even if you are just walking around the hotel. In addition, during multiple times during the day, you could not even access the floor which housed the tiny office because of their very rigid Covid restrictions. I never even got to see the office during my entire week stay. Any questions I had were communicated by phone. After this very rocky check-in, I was ready to start enjoying myself. When I got to the room, which was a 1 Bedroom suite, I was impressed with how large it was. It had a peek-a-boo view of the bay as well which was nice , especially on crystal clear days even though the bay was about 4 blocks away. The living area had a nice large couch set in front of a large screen TV . The room also had a large dining room table and a full kitchen. The furniture was a bit outdated but sufficient for our purposes. The room also had a small loft with a small chair & a table, which seemed a waste of space to me. (I was told that this is for parents to get some alone time?). The bedroom, which was furnished with a nice comfortable bed, small table & chair was also a nice size. There was also an abundance of storage space (designed for a large family, not for a childless couple as we were). There were some minor repair issues right off the bat which I was able to get resolved but all-in-all the room was very nice. In the time that we were there when the restaurants were actually opened, I was able to book at some great restaurants known for their seafood. I particularly loved the Wild Fish & PassionFish. Also worth mentioning is a great Portuguese bakery called Pavel's which is always packed & open only until they run out of their last pastry for the day, which could be pretty early in the day. Everything there is truly mouthwatering & worth every penny (Don't expect a bargain!) The tarts especially are not to be missed! The location of the resort is also convenient to Monterey & Carmel which are both spectacular and worth the drive.

It was $524 for three days and two nights for essentially a small apartment. It wasn't right on Cannery Row, which was good because we have small kids and wanted quiet. But the aquarium, restaurants, and beaches were just a 5-minute or less drive away. We stayed in the Cottage side which are basically studio apartments. They have a kitchenette, living room area, separate bedroom, and a full bathroom. They also have a heated pool and hot tub, along with a fire pit sitting area. If you stay on the Cottage side you get a free breakfast buffet every morning! The buffet is loaded with eggs, potatoes, bacon, sausage, breakfast burritos, oatmeal, cereal, and fresh fruits. Having the breakfast included saved us a ton of cash during our trip. You can hear the ocean from the rooms and everything, entertainment and food wise, is close by. These rooms could use some updating, but for what we needed it did just the trick. Plus my kids loved the huge jacuzzi bathtub!

If you're coffee lovers as we are, it is a fabulous bonus. Their grab-and-go breakfast bags are adorable and enough to get you going with their coffee. Lots of "YUMS" as we first open our eyes each morning. Next, the housekeeping and maintenance people are all especially friendly. One of their housekeeping executives, Lourdes, told me how much she loves the region--and lives nearby. Finally the room we had was beautiful with a gas fireplace that can be turned on by the flip of a switch. You can get whatever you need from the front desk, towels, bottles of water, supplies, you name it. There is no daily housekeeping unless you request it, which honestly is a good thing--as it allows you to relax each morning with quiet and solitude. To summarize, we HIGHLY recommend this property. It is fabulous for a getaway to one of the most beautiful parts of the California coast.

Upon knowing we were visiting for a birthday weekend, management had an awesome treat plate and a bottle of wine compliments of the house. Two things you must know... our room didn't not had an air conditioner which wasn't a problem for us due to the mild climate of the area. There was a box fan in the closest for our use. Also the parking can be tricky for large vehicles. This wasn't a problem for us but we saw a few people needing spotters to exit their parking spaces. Would we be back, absolutely!
