I really do not know where to start with this one. I'll begin by stating I have grown up eating at Italian Oven. Back when your straw was a noodle. While I understand this is not exactly the same, we all know it basically is. So I had an idea of what we were in for. Or so I thought. We stopped in on a Saturday afternoon. At our arrival there were three other tables. The largest had four people. The atmosphere was very quiet at this time. Our waitress was very nice to us but still somehow seemed overwhelmed or busy. We ordered the Tuscan Brucshetta for an appetizer. What was brought to use was a hotdog/hoagie bun, toasted with tomatoes and balsamic on it. For lack of a better word, it was weird. One of the entrees was a calzone and I'm not even certain the dough even saw any heat. It was pale, soggy & just barely above raw. We didn't have a chance to ask the waitress to ask the kitchen to fire it again bc we didn't see her until she brought the bill and our to go pizza. Not even sure what to make of the pizza. Watery sauce and limp dough, again. We have said we might give this place another chance bc sometimes people have bad days. Not in a hurry for a rematch but will edit review if so. Plenty of parking. Handicap accessible. Plenty of room inside for wheelchairs, walkers, canes and scooters. read more

I had a Wonderful experience here! The Outside is nice and casual. The Inside is cozy. The Waitress I had was amazing. I had delicious appetizers like Cheese Sticks, some s Spinach Artichoke Dip, and Garlic Knots. My main Entrée Was so good! It's The Italian Oven Combo. We didn't wait too long to get seated, the staff were friendly. However, the combination between our server and the chef /cook could have been better. One of the 6 meals we ordered was cold (ravioli). It came out as it was done which wasn't ideal but okay- Server said she would take a meal off and didn't. It was just okay for us. My mom used to be a big time Italian Oven fan when she lived in Somerset 30 years ago. We took a mother daughter trip back home recently and just knew Italian Oven was on the list. We started with garlic knots, which were fantastic! Super soft and perfectly garlicky. Then mom and I had the Stromboli. The sauce is flavorful, the crust is perfect, and just the right amount of cheese. Our server was super nice and very quick. Never had to ask for anything as she was right there with extra napkins, refills, etc. The decor is cute and exactly what you'd expect in a popular Italian eatery. It definitely makes you feel like you're part of the family when you eat there. Mom has had many a story to tell about Italian Oven over the years so it was nice making this memory together! read more

The food was horrendous. Ordered a steak salad and the steak was what they put in steak hoagies with the cooked peppers and they forgot the fries and cheese. When I asked for the fries and cheese they put 5 fries on the salad and pizza cheese. My nephew got the crab cakes and it was like a soup in this red pepper sauce, disgusting. My husband ordered a pizza chicken spinach and it came out completely wrong and my daughter ordered a pizza and it was completely wrong. It was a completely disappointing family meal for the money. Let me start off by saying, I will be giving this place another shot. I just didn't feel too hot and wasn't that hungry and dang it if we wound up at an intalian joint, trying to stuff our faces. The drive kind of sucked because you drive a little ways away and then might end up mildly disappointed. The staff here may have been new or working out some kinks. Our waitress (probably worked here for a long time because she knew about the apparent pasta straws from long ago) was fine. She was obviously flustered as she was overworked and attempting to cover another staff member's job. IDK her name but she was really bubbly, dark hair with piercings. Kept us refilled and checked often. We ordered brushetta which was decent, could've been a little more cheese & less blasamic. Manicotti was pretty good, took some home and finished the next day. The bread was served and you could tell that it was fresh, also took home and eaten. THe decor is different and the store sets out on the road from everything else. Parking shouldn't be a problem as they have their own lot. The only thing that was confusing was payment as we kind of just stood there near the door and then there was not interaction at the actual payment counter where we were standing. I came here with my mom and sister after visiting the Flight 93 Memorial. The draft beers were ice cold...served in frosty glasses...which made us immediately happy. We ordered a cup of Italian wedding soup, two cups of roasted red pepper soup, a medium pizza with sausage, banana peppers, and mushrooms, and pasta marinara with linguini and meatballs. Everything was DELICIOUS and I sincerely mean that. The banana peppers were fresh and loved the cheese and crust on the pizza. The meatballs and marinara were full of flavor. Highly recommend. We also really enjoyed talking with our server, "Jeff the Chef." He is awesome and interesting. read more

Traveled up here quite awhile ago- just getting back into my yelp game after being popped for taking too much time away which ended my elite status. I mean it's ludicrous I would get popped. Lavale used to have an Italian Oven when I was little, and I remember the pizza, the pasta straws, and really enjoyed the Italian oils and decorations that they had at that location. I want to say it went out of business or closed in Lavale in the late nineties and I thought that was it until I realized there was one in Somerset (I suppose the original) The place was very busy- and they seemed to have lot of issues with their wait staff- one guy in particular who I would say wasn't playing with a full deck. I felt bad for him but the other waitress made it a point to help his tables as well so people did get upset at them. We ordered an appetizer- the bruschetta which was meh. Had all the makings of what you need for bruschetta- bread, oil, tomatoes, but it just seemed half-fast. Wouldn't recommend. For a food I went with the chicken Parmesan (big surprise) which was good, was cold in places and we really had to wait a great deal of time to get our food. I will say what saved this experience was the waitress (wanted to say she had colored hair and odd earrings) but was very nice and attentive as she could be given having to nan several other tables for the lacking waiter as well. Much like everyone else from Somerset I want the local places to succeed. I owned a business and I understand how hard it is not just put our a good profit, have good employees and still make money. That being said, 2 stars is being very generous. The only reason I'm going that high is because I believe everyone has an off night. After waiting 20 minutes for a take our order I finally get my food. It wasn't busy and no one other than me was standing at the hostess counter. Tool ten minutes before anyone even acknowledged me. When I got home the lasagna I ordered was still frozen in the middle. I know restaurants don't like take out orders but some of us just like to eat in the comfort of our own homes after a long day at work. As I mentioned the food I ordered was still cold. Heck the cheese wasn't even melted. But to be honest I had no intention on eating it anyway. Because while I was waiting I watched a waitress in a purple shirt pick items off someone's salad with her fingers. Yes, I know it happens a lot but I didn't see her wash her hands prior or even after. Maybe I missed it but still thought that was gross. Would not recommend. read more

Sadly, this Italian Oven (apparently the original) has gone from one of the best restaurants in Somerset to one of the worst. We brought some out-of-town guests here trying to avoid the chain restaurants like Eat-n-Park and Ruby Tuesdays. I was incredibly embarrassed by the poor service and overall uneatable quality of the food. The pirogies appetizer was nasty. They were really slimy and completely undercooked (we sent them back since they were still cold in the middle). I think it should be a misdemeanor (if not a felony) to serve frozen pirogies in western PA. My friend, Kylan, order the carbonara pasta. While it's true, the original Italian version of carbonara does not involve cream, in the US it's a de-facto standard. So when they presented the dish, we immediately thought they got the orders mixed up. Once we were informed that their carbonara was cream-free, Kylan decided to give it ago. Based on the looks on his face, it was not good. It was so dried out that it looks like the dish had been sitting in the open sun for days and withered into a lump of glue. The saving grace for the entire meal, and primary reason it's not a 1-star review... the pepperoni rolls & fried zucchini are frakking awesome. We all agreed that we should have just made a meal of appetizers (san-pirogies). read more

Stopped in with my family the other day and was VERY happy with the service we got. Even though they were short staffed, the manager, Judy, was very attentive to our needs, super courteous, and very warm. Everything was PERFECT. The food was amazing (as it always is), and I didn't spend a fortune to feed the four of us, as you do at some restaurants. My family took my 90-year-old mother here on Saturday to celebrate her birthday and we were very pleased with our experience. There were 26 of us and our waitress, Abby, did a great job! I know they were not fully staffed (along with every other restaurant and business right now), but you wouldn't have known it based on Abby's service. Drinks were refilled promptly and often and she hustled to keep up with our orders and anything else we needed. She helped us keep our ice cream cake cool that we brought, brought us extra plates and napkins and even helped us take a family picture. Everyone in our party was very impressed with Abby and our experience and I just wanted to share that. Be kind to the wait staff wherever you are and keep in mind most are short staffed, they're doing their best and Abby was a great example of going above and beyond!! read more

A gem in the heart of Somerset! Fried Zucchini unlike any other I have had and it was divine. Accompanied by a delightfully tangy horseradish sauce, it was crispy yet not greasy. Manicotti was the perfect blend of cheese, sauce and herbs. Definitely home made and the portion was enough to have for lunch the next day. The service wasn't GREAT but adequate. One thing that did bother me was that while we were there, a woman fell on a wet floor and the manager insisted that it was due to her being imbalanced on her high heels. Clearly that was not the case and I do hope that woman was not severely injured. I would love to visit again. read more

This used to be a weekend staple for my family when I was growing up. So my husband and I decided to check it out while visiting Seven Springs this weekend. It was more quiet than I remember, but that could've been the fact that we came later on a Sunday night. I ordered a sirloin and my fiance ordered the chicken Alfredo. The bread tasted weird, and the onion straws left a weird after taste. The chicken Alfredo was bland and chewy. I'm not sure if my sirloin was actually beef. I asked about the hole in the ceiling, apparently the waitresses dad was the roofer. we both took a couple bites and gave the food back. I still had to pay for the Alfredo and the weird onion straws that apparently took 5 seconds to make. The chef didn't understand what medium steak is. We stopped at dollar general afterwards and the cashier informed us how nasty the place was. 30 minutes later and we still taste Italian oven. how ridiculous, do they not understand that an unhappy customer is bad for business. what a shame. seriously, if someone sends a dish back after one bite, you should probably check to see if there is a problem with the food read more

Unbelievable how bad the service was. It only got worst once the food was brought out. The Stromboli looked very good and if you do eat here that is all you should order. My Chicken Parm looked like it sat for awhile under the heat lamp it was very dry and cold on the inside. I am from a small town in Kentucky but have family in somerset. We recently visited for a week and decided to try something other than King's or Ruby Tuesday. My family absolutely loves this restaurant! So, my husband and I gave it a go. It was a Friday night, and me being a server, I expected it to be very busy. It was. First, there was a good amount of people standing up by the host's stand but no host/hostess. . .on a Friday night?! Unheard of. Waitresses were running back and forth ensuring that we would be taken care of, which I liked because we weren't being ignored, they were all just busy. We got sat and our waitress greeted us. Very nice and personable! (Even though she was sweating so badly from being in two different sections and running all night). We ordered the fried zucchini that we'd heard so much about. Honestly the best I've ever had! The fettuccine Alfredo that I ordered was superb and tasted exactly as my grandmother had made it, my husband ordered spaghetti with meatballs and raved about the sauce. The bread was also fantastic! We asked for the owner of the restaurant to tell him/her that the food was amazing but were told that they were not there. On a Friday night the owner was not there?! With no hostess and seemingly limited wait staff?! All in all, we did have a good experience, the good food and service was so amazing, hence the four stars! I just truly can't believe that these waiters/waitresses were running as they were! I understand I do not work here but my my my. . .in my opinion, one of the owners should have been there to at least host. Will certainly go back, though! read more

It took several minutes to even get seated by the hostess. When the server finally arrived at our table we were ready to order. We were interested in the specials that we read about while waiting for a seat. The server had no idea what the specials were and had to go write them down and come back. The salad she brought had a giant brown piece of lettuce and the piece was front in center in the bowl. We ordered a plain steak. It was supposed to have onions, mushrooms, peppers, and cheese on it. We wanted it plain. She brought it to our table and told us she hoped it tasted ok because they just scraped all the stuff off of it. My Pizza was soggy on the bottom. The water tasted funny. My husband and I love this place. Best place in Somerset to get Italian food and their pizza is great. We live near Pittsburgh and come up to Somerset on the weekends and this is the only place I would go for Italian food in Somerset. That says a lot since I am Italian and I am known for my Italian cooking. Love the food especially the pizza read more
