But we were greeted by welcome notes and codes for our rooms, we were the only guests in the place... We were in the bird rooms..smaller and cozy cute rooms. I will admit the mattress wasn't my favorite.. We misunderstood the booking due to our boss doing the booking the rooms. But they were very accommodating and upgraded us for our second night stay in the tree named rooms. Which we first was staying on a Tuesday night and then we stayed over on a Thursday night. On our Thursday night we were actually greeted by everybody that work there full bar and restaurant was open and it did not disappoint. I personally enjoyed the tree rooms bigger bed. The mattress was super comfy we also had a steam shower in the bathrooms. I must say the sheets and comforter that they use on the bed are super soft and some of the most comfy sheets I've ever stayed in at a hotel. I do enjoy that they have a couple public rooms where there's couches pool tables and Outdoors there is a fireplace Let's talk about the Birch restaurant. Ally is an amazing bartender!!! The menu had soooooo many choices I wanted try. I had one of their specials the soup which was a creamy queso style soup. Also went with the braised rib with real mashed potatoes. And one of their homemade desserts. Opera cake. (Hopefully thats how it was spelled) Also included in your stay is breakfast which there was numerous choices to choose from I chose two eggs any style with their local resourced bacon wheat toast and then also homemade ketchup and jelly!!! Brewed green tea and OJ.. My vacation in the Lake George region yearly and can't wait to take my son for a nice dinner here. It says it's an adult only inn. But they assured me I could actually have my son stay the night but since there's only one bed per room we most likely will opt to stay somewhere else but maybe a nice girl's trip staying in one of the Lakes rooms which features Big soaking Jacuzzi tubs!! Also they have a Tranquility room where you can just meditate and relax and a sauna. I feel the only thing that this place is missing is a gym and a hot tub. But they provide snowshoes in the winter time and have a nice hiking trail that you can do all year round and you're very close to friend's lake. Very happy to have stayed at this place.

The only minus points I want to mention are 1. no real fireplace (electronic fireplace) in your room (totally understood, but thought they had a real fireplace in each room from the pix we saw online. but they have like 3 real fireplaces in the property) and 2. we texted the owner the morning before we checked out to ask about the neighborhood, but we still didnt get a text back from her lol. but this place still gets 5 stars because we will definitely come back. such a cozy place and I can see that the owners really care about their property and also their customers.

It's easy to miss but that's the whole point! You're off the grid and ready for some down time. Don't plan on using the internet much while you are here. We had a hard time getting and maintaining internet service. This was great in getting us to disconnect but a bit of a nightmare when we needed to use Waze or Mapquest for directions. We arrived 40 minutes early and the inn keeper initially seemed annoyed, frazzled and somewhat terse but quickly recovered once she realized our room was ready. After a tour of the grounds and the lodge we freshened up and headed downstairs to the main area for hors d'oeuvres and cocktail hour. I envisioned this to be much more than it actually was. I can't say that it was disappointing because I never expected it to be a highlight of my stay. I was however, very surprised at what was provided given the cost of our stay. The inn keeper offered us beer and wine and gave us a plate of four deviled eggs served on a plate with paper doilies. That was the extent of the hors d'oeuvres. Nothing else was prepared and nothing else was offered. On our second evening we had a small plate of cheese and crackers. They should bill this more as a light snack vs hors d'oeuvres. But again, not a big deal. This happy hour happens each day around four. On our first night we sat in the screened in porch and enjoyed the view of the lake before heading out to dinner. The second night we sat by the fire. There were a few other couples but everyone kept to themselves and enjoyed whatever space they were in and our time still felt private. There are rooms on each level of the lodge all offering a beautiful view though not all overlook the water. The inn is beautiful and if you're focusing on the ambiance of the lodge and the natural beauty surrounding it you'll realize the deviled eggs mean nothing. Our room was spacious and included a fireplace a fire pit and a jacuzzi tub. There are multiple fire pits around the lodge and s'mores kits to enjoy. If you choose not to gaze at the lake from afar you can enjoy any of the water toys down at the dock. There are also several walking trails to burn off the s'more you ate the night before. The inn keeper was a great concierge providing us with directions as well as suggestions for food and activities. Despite having a full house we really didn't bump into the other guests much during our stay. Downstairs is a pool table, a bar, fire place, puzzles, pool table, chess board etc. the bar is an honor system where you sip and sign for whatever you consumed and it will be added to your bill. During our stay there was a family of four staying at the lodge. Their children were around 12 and 15 and played darts while we played pool. There was plenty of space for us not to get into each other's way. There are books that other guests have left if you'd like to sit back with a good read. Breakfast was multi course small plates that were beautifully presented, tasty and just the right amount of food. You can have it brought to your room or request to dine in one of many areas of the lodge. We chose a table on the second floor with a great view of the lake. It was our own little spot with no distractions. The per night cost is $$$ but well worth it to relax, reconnect or just get outside and enjoy nature.

MOTEL IS OLD AND RUN-DOWN; OWNERS ARE WORSE…read more We have been travelling and staying in motels/hotels of all sorts as a family for the past 10 years. This was the very worst experience we have had. We called the Panther Mountain Inn on Dec 24 and spoke to a lady called Jamie, requesting a 5 day/night ski and stay package. She quoted us a rate for the 5 days. It was a very good rate, so I asked her to confirm it and break down the room+tickets for me. She did so, confirming the exact amount (dollars and cents). told her I would finalize plans and call her back. The next day, I called back and confirmed we wanted to take the room. I asked Jamie to re-confirm the price, and she did. We drove up to Chestertown from our home on Dec 27. When we arrived at the Inn, we were met by a lady, who told us the price we had been quoted was wrong. And instead, she said the price would be a figure more than 60% higher. We were astonished since I had repeatedly confirmed the exact rate with Jamie. We asked to speak to Jamie, but were told she wasn't around and that she was a "new employee" who "clearly made a mistake". We explained that we had made the booking on the basis of Jamie's repeatedly confirmed prices. The lady (who was apparently the owner) and her husband curtly responded that they "were not going to take responsibility for Jamie's mistake". They then claimed that Jamie had called us earlier in the day to notify us of the error. Whether she had in fact done this or not is irrelevant since we had already left early in the morning. We asked why 2 full days had passed without Jamie's error being identified and our being notified. We would still have had a chance to make alternative arrangements. The husband replied rudely and confrontationally that it was not his problem and his decision was fine. We asked to see the room before making a final decision. This was our second shock. The room was very small and extremely old with ragged furniture and a bathroom that barely one person could fit into. The room wouldn't have been worth the original lower price that Jamie had quoted us! Unable to believe what was happening, we started calling around for other hotels. Fortunately, we found a very nice Clarion Inn just 20 minutes away which offered us a very modern, clean room with a great breakfast for less than the inflated rate at the Panther Mountain Inn. We want everyone to know what sort of a place the Panther Mountain Inn and its owners are. Our advice is "stay here at your peril".

The couches were super dirty (see pic). Really badly dirty & dusty and stained, it was off putting. We made sure we threw out our garbage everyday, wiped down every surface constantly, washed, dried, and put the dishes away every single meal but it didn't seem to help, the cabin was infested with mice. We found one floating in the toilet one morning (see pic). I can understand it being a little rural but it was not just a mouse or two....I mean infested. I can't speak for every cabin we stayed in Hideaway Cabin. It seems odd to say it but we do want to return, we loved Loon Lake, it was acroess the street and is a lovely place. Chestertown is super close by so you can get everything you need easily. It's really a lovely little part of the world and the location of the property is very well situated and the business is a nice family environment.

BUT - it was clean, it was comfortable, and it was oddly charming, in a nostalgic way. I booked directly with the owners, by (nostalgia #1) TELEPHONE (although you can use booking.com, but I've heard from other hotel owners that it's kind of complicated and a pain.) There aren't room "options" from what I can tell, so it makes me think each one has 2 full size beds. The bedspread are outdated, the bathroom is way outdated, the TV was enormous (and I'm not talking screen) and it had a small table with two chairs and a mini fridge, and STILL plenty of room. It reminded me of places my family used to stay on vacation when I was young (nostalgia #2) In fact, it's probably a great place for a family to stay! There's a door to the parking lot, and a door to a deck with plastic chairs that overlooks a lake (Loon Lake, I believe.) While we didn't get to explore the entire establishment, the grounds looked beautiful. Also, the owners are a delight. I chatted all about kids and NYC and covid and travel with them, long enough that my husband came looking for me! Hopefully, when covid relaxes and my kiddo is a little older, we can come stay for a proper weekend trip, and I'll catch Swayze and J Grey in their finale performance.... This is a perfect family nostalgia getaway spot, OR ironic hipster overnight. Go!!

Pros: location was good for what we needed to do that weekend…read more Cons: when booking a room you will stay in the main " lodge"where walls are paper thin and you feel like you are in a murder movie. No one was around for us to check in and it was very eerie and we didn't even know if we were in the right place. Fast forward 30 mins later it's like a party in the place. Not only were we inconvenienced all night by those coming in and out as it is incredibly loud but we were subjected to a couple above us having a disturbing time during the night from 1-3am and could hear everything and creeping if floors and could not sleep (obviously). Also strange that no credit card is accepted so you are forced to pay hundreds of dollars in cash there must be some under the table no tax action going on. The man that owns the place was also very weird and made us really uncomfortable. He was waiting for us to come out of our room in the morning to pay, not sure how long he was waiting for but we felt very awkward. Room was also really old and not clean, floors were dirty and had large red stains. We felt uncomfortable the entire time and did not get any sleep. Needless to say we will not be back here or recommending this place to anyone. I'm sure the cottages are nice but it is not evident what the set up is when you book a room.
