In my research for my trip to the Keys this place was one I found several times and saw good reviews, so I marked it and was ready to try it out. From the outside, Pinecrest looks so cute and nice and there's a little outdoor patio to sit in, but as soon as I walked in it felt different. They were playing music really, really loud, so it was difficult to even talk to someone because it's hard to hear them speak let alone yourself. The desserts in the display case all looked wonderfully delicious, so we got the chocolate mousse and a guava flavored cake. But, we stood waiting for someone to help us for probably close to 10 minutes. There were plenty of workers, just none of them would come over to us and so I was feeling a rude vibe already from that. Then, the lady who finally helped us was just really unfriendly and barely spoke (which I guess with how loud the music was maybe it didn't matter anyways), but I was really unimpressed with the service overall. And when we tried the desserts, I mean they were okay but they really weren't anything special. Next time I'll just go to Mrs Mac's next door. I hate leaving bad reviews but I felt so unwelcome at this bakery and I don't want others to experience that too. read more

Service inside is Slooooooow even if you order ahead. The attendants inside are on super slow speed and it appears to always be understaffed. But the food is great and the pastries and sandwiches are authentically cuban amd Latin American. They have super good food eat and sandwiches. So glad they are here in the keys. Very Disappointing. I went to the key largo location 11-26-24 I ordered a media noche without mayo and mustard and it had both and plenty of it. I threw it out because it made me gag (I can't tolerate mustard). The house croquetas (freshly made) were fried in oil that tasted like fish. The pastelitos de carne were stale. Ordered a platter of croquettes for a boat party. There was a total of 25. They were the small croquettes and they were delicious. Given that we ate here three times in 2 days, I guess you could say we liked it. We had breakfast twice. The pastries are wonderful. Very light and warm with delicious fillings. Since this is a Cuban restaurant, we had to come back for lunch and have a Cuban sandwich. It was excellent. Conviently located right off of Overseas Hwy, it's definitely easy to stop here for a quick bite before going further into the keys. Very friendly and fast service, plenty of outdoor seating. However food is mediocre. The house special croqueta are sizable but taste is ok. A mix of Ham and spices, nothing that blows your mind. The ham and cheese croissant has plenty of ham and cheese but the ham and cheese is cold as the croissant is warm and toasty...I was expecting melting cheese to drip off of my croissant. Inconsistent food and service quality. When great it is hard to beat. Two of three times we visited were great. The other we got poor food quality after poor service. So seems hit or miss. HOLY CUBAN!! We stopped by on our way to the Keys based on a rec from a foodie friend. Their menu of sandwiches was very impressive! I wasn't particularly super hungry so I got the "mini" Cuban and my husband had the Cuban. The "mini" was enormous, probably a solid 6" sub sandwich size, on amazing Cuban bread that was perfectly toasted!! The flavor of the sauces and the meats was delightful! The portion size of my mini and his regular sized Cuban were VERY generous! His reg size was absolutely HUGE and he was pleasingly stuffed for the night. Their cordita was a shot of espresso with a little sugar. We each had one and it was the perfect amount of caffeine for the early evening. The food was a solid 5/5 but the customer service was definitely a 3/5 and we were not even greeted upon walking in. Came in around 9am looking for something good and sweet. The bakery display was bare with only a few single items here and there. When ordering my bf speaks fluent Spanish, but i do not. The server didn't seem to want to speak in English to me, So he helped. They were friendly other than that. I got my food, but he had to stand there and wait for her to get his while she was flirting with someone who came in. He finally had to remind her what he ordered. As for the food, the Nutella pastelito could have been good but the Nutella tasted burnt. The strawberry and cream pastry was delish though! Management really needs to spend some time working the counter to observe what is going on. The staff is rude and have very little patience and manners. We can stand in line for a long time to be served but when we have a simple request we get eaten alive. The pastelitos and croquetas were burnt and extremely dry this morning. We were so looking forward to getting our Cuban dessert fix here. We got two coffees and a mix of different desserts. When we arrived at home we noticed some of the items we ordered were in the bag upside down. We know we didn't mishandle the bags so it must have been bagged that way in the bakery. What's most disturbing is what we found when we fixed the items. MOLD! They served us moldy food and tried to hide it. This place is ruined for us. Luckily I was able to get a full refund. Oh!!!
