I had never heard of Ping's Bistro but my partner did and so we decided to stop by while waiting for our car to charge at a nearby Tesla supercharger. We decided to try the Signature Grilled Fish with Lemongrass. It took a long time to come out but it was really worth it. The fish was very tender and flavorful for catfish. As an added bonus, a lot of the bones were taken out, which was great for me because I suck at eating with lots of small fish bones. Please note, that there were still bones, so caution needs to be taken if you are not skilled in this area. We also shared the House Special Braised Pork Knuckle over rice. The pork was well seasoned and very tender. There was a good mixture of fatty and non-fatty pieces. I highly recommend. For dessert, the Osmanthus Rice Cakes had really good chewy and soft texture. I think I found my new favorite Chinese spot. The only thing I was bummed about was the fact that they didn't have Mapo Tofu. I guess I'll have to try one of their other locations! read more

It is good for a casual lunch/dinner or a small gathering. Service was very attentive and welcoming. They do always check on you to fill your water and other needs. We ordered their "Grilled Fish with Picked Cabbage and Tofu" mild spicy. I would suggest to get spicy or medium spicy to bring out more flavors. But if you are a person who can't eat spicy at all, then just go with mild. I'd say this dish is a 5/5. The fish is delicious with spicy flavors of Sichuan cuisine. It is a perfect choice for those who enjoy spicy and savory flavors. The portion is HUGE, it is more than enough for 2 people. But you can always order a side of vegetables if it's not enough for you. Delicious! I will say though, they asked my friend if I would be able to handle spicy food, so I'm pretty sure they dialed it down, but it barely registered any heat. In any case, every dish was flavorful, savory, and delicious. I would definitely come back and hope that they would just make the dishes as intended rather than judging my spice tolerance by the way that I look. My favorites were the beef and the pork with cabbage in a flaming pot. Not much pork in the cabbage, but the cabbage was so tasty that I didn't care. The eggplant was overcooked but flavorful, but the green beans that were with it didn't seem to have any flavor, so I would skip that one and try different veggies next time. The service was ok - they won't seat you until your entire party is there (not a big deal as my friend was a few minutes out, but considering that the restaurant was half empty at the time - it would have been nice to sit and order a drink). The dishes were slow to come out, but good flavor can take time. They pack you in at small cramped tables - we kept having to rearrange and move our water glasses, etc, as there was barely enough room for what we ordered at our small table for two. The restaurant was full with a full waiting room and groups outside as well by the time we left, so come early if you can and beat the rush! Overall, very tasty food with a few service missteps and a bit hectic. Ping's bistro has been one of my favorite sichuan/hunan restaurant chains in the Bay Area and this location did not disappoint! The location is pretty new and the indoor is well deco'ed and clean. One thing special about this location is they also feature yunnan dishes in addition to their signature hunan dishes. The spicy level on the menu is a very helpful, and I usually stick with dishes with spicy levels of 1 & 2. Don't be fooled though by level 1 - it already has a kick. Some of our go-to dishes include: - preserved eggs with grind peppers (the sauce is unbeatable!) - country style sautéed pork with eggs and black mushrooms: perfect match with rice! (Warning - even though it's marked as spice level 1, i think it's at least spice level 2 in reality) - sautéed eggplant with string beans: a solid veg dish option that is not spicy We also tried a few new dishes this time and they were all tasty. Particularly impressed with the fried rice which reminded me of the Shanghai style veg ham fried rice. We also got passionfruit green tea for the table which was very refreshing and helped balance all the heat from the dishes. We came around 12 on a weekend and they were already packed. This restaurant moved from El camino real to this place. This place used to be streetfood cafe which moved to different location in same complex. It was quit when I stopped by. It is a very nice and modern interior. I like this better than when it was at El camino. I ordered lunch special. I ordered Hunan beef. It comes with rice and pickle cabbage. The server warned me that it is spicy. It is interesting that they provide a tablet for you to browse the menu, but you can not order. You have to order inside using a different tablet. The menu is a bit different than the menu when it was at El camino. Some are still the same. One thing I really miss is the garlic pork belly appetizer. They don't offer anymore. The server was helpful. The food was ready in a couple of minutes. The Hunan beef is indeed spicy since they put fresh thai chili and red mexican chili. Portion is generous but not the rice. If you are a big rice eater, the rice portion might not be enough for you. For me, the portion is ok. I think the price is a bit high, but it seems it is a normal price everywhere now. read more

Since we always over order the large round table was perfect for the oversized dishes. The interior is minimalistic. The menu is vastly smaller then the Fremont restaurant but they have several versions of dry pot stir fry. We ordered the following: Spicy marinated boneless duck feet. 5 stars I always wondered how long it took them to separate the bones from the skin and cartilage. Nevertheless it makes it so much better. Marinated sour beans and chicken gizzards 4 stars Smoked pork belly and dried bean curd 4 stars Sautéed shredded bok choy 4 stars Stir fried potato string 4 stars Lotus root with minced pork 5 stars Two desserts fried Mochi and a jelly with black sugar and nuts 4 stars Service was excellent. While this restaurant location just opened a few days ago, Ping's Bistro in Fremont is one of the best and most authentic Hunan (Xiang) restaurants in the Bay Area. If you've never tasted Hunan cuisine, you are in for a treat. It's spicy, fresh, and with bold colors which lead to some of the best tasting food that's also visually pleasing. Unlike Sichuan food which generally uses pepper corn that is so numbing that it soon makes everything taste identical, Hunanese dishes generally use vinegar with pepper. This makes your taste buds tingle so you can better appreciate the wide range of ingredients and their distinct flavors. Additionally, while Hunan food can be actually hotter, the vinegar helps lower both cholesterol and blood pressure. But don't kid yourself, it's not healthy food by any means. Unfortunately, at least as of right now, this location doesn't carry all the dishes you might be familiar with if you've visited their other locations. The pork cauliflower, which is one of my favorites, is absent from the menu. That being said, it sure is nice to have an option closer to San Francisco. I'll need to try a few more dishes before I can determine if it's on par with the other locations but from the few things I've tried thus far, it's good! Just opened this past weekend! We happened to drive by and noticed people were inside eating. Food is pretty good and the staff is polite. The portions are small and the prices are high. Yet the tables are full and the wait list is long. Don't be fooled by Ping's unassuming presence, they have multiple locations including 2 in Fremont. I have been to all of them and they all slap. We usually order their Spicy Frog Legs, beef, boiled fish, fried chicken or pork belly dishes. Their Mapo Dofu makes me sweat bullets in the best of ways. I can't think of anything more satisfying on a cold rainy night. Intensely spicy with superior flavor. Tasty and authentic Chinese cuisine! They used to be located in San Mateo on El Camino Real, but recently moved to this location, which is slightly better ambience and easier to park at. So far I've enjoyed all of the dishes we've tried. We really like their steamed seafood special with shrimp/clams/vermicelli, although it requires a longer wait because it's cooked on the spot at your table. The sauteed beef with cilantro is also really tasty, but be warned it's extremely spicy! They used to have a great fried fish fillet entree, but not sure if they still offer it at this location. They can get pretty busy on the weekends during lunch so we try to go on the earlier side to avoid a wait. read more

I go this plaza a lot for my hair and nail appointments and seldom I stay around to try the foods in the area. Decided to check this spot out as I've noticed several people coming in and out of this place. The hosts and servers were friendly and i came at a good time as there was no wait for a table. The place looked highly presentable, clean and organized. They are also advance in a way where their menu is available by scanning the QR code from your phone. I elected to order from their lunch menu combo and was excited to see tasteful looking appetizers. I was served tea and water almost immediately.
