I'm kinda addicted to one of their smoothies, the peanut butter and jelly jam. I call in from the roundabout for pick up, and it's usually ready when I get there. When it's made well, it's amazing...but a few times it seems like they forgot the peanut butter or skimped on the maple syrup. But when it's good--well, that's the one I try to replicate at home but too often fall short. The broccoli with peanut sauce is amazing. I don't share these bites with anyone. I just order a plate and slowly savor this by myself while reading a book. (If you see me here doing this, please don't talk to me. I'm busy) I need to branch out and try more things, but I keep ordering the same two things by accident. Went to Pingala with a couple of friends on Saturday afternoon with some seriously nice weather. I ordered the Buffalo Mac and cheeze crunchwrap, and the people I was with had the k-pop (kimchi burger) and the vegan hot dog (a carrot). We also ordered the PBJ smoothie and a PB chocolate chunk cookie. I found my Crunchwrap odd at first as the flavors felt weird together and didn't seem to blend very well, but I eventually warmed up to it and enjoyed it. It came with perhaps five potato chips on the side. The person eating the k-pop loved it and gobbled it up quickly, and the carrot dog seemed enjoyable as well though the barbecue sauce overwhelmed the flavor there. I was looking for a healthy alternative compared to traditional diner breakfast which sometimes seems overwhelmingly heavy. Glad to have found this place! The food was excellent and I hope the pictures do it justice. Presentation was pretty. The hollandaise was creamy and I loved the roasted sweet potato smeared on the bread. After eating the Benedict, I didn't feel sluggish but instead, rejuvenated. Would definitely order again. Like I said, sometimes diner food feels so heavy and weighs me down. Not so with this dish. Onto the service. In this establishment, you order at the counter, then they'll bring the food out to you in the dining area. Food arrived in a timely manner. My friend ordered the french toast, and we were informed that the batter for the french toast wasn't perfect. However, they were willing to supplement us with something on the menu along with still serving us the french toast. My friend ended up getting the avocado toast. BTW, the french toast still tasted pretty good! These guys win based on customer satisfaction. There's a bus bin as you make your way out, just throw the excess in the garbage and place the dishware in the bins. Ambiance was pleasant. It's next to a river, and there are windows overlooking into the parking lot and river. If it was a sunnier day, I'm sure the view would've been more appealing. Nonetheless, the big windows allow for a lot of natural sunlight into the building. Overall, good experience and I would come back again. Stopped by today to try one on the DDD show stops - Guy definitely got this one right. We ordered a Crunchwrap Supreme with the garlic aioli and a Buffalo-Mac Crunchwrap along with their Broccoli Bites with the Thai Peanut and Korean BBQ sauce. We got them to go and took them for a picnic lunch at the Waterbury State Park. The crunch wraps were cut in two so it was easy to share halves along with sharing the Broccoli Bites! I was absolutely impressed that they were Vegan - truly hard to believe that they didn't contain any meat! I would absolutely recommend getting a great meal there! read more

My only complaints for this American style cuisine is the hours: can you be open for more hours please???? So sad it has such a short opening window. This place is an invaluable gem. I LOVED it. I should move to Burlington just to keep eating here. They have a delightful breakfast menu that I missed, complete with a bountiful collection of espresso/ latte drinks, smoothies and juices. Perfect! On top of that, they then have an abundant selection of salads and sandwiches - very lunch-like menu... but, that's what they advertise: brekkie and lunch. Boy, do they deliver... in spades. Appetizers have some healthful choices like the delicious roasted broccoli bites with a nice creamy seed or nut-based spicy sauce. I wanted to try the Mexi-inspired food, like enchiladas, tacos and quesadillas, but really.... the gluten-free sandwich breads were what sold me. I always find the bread to be bland or crumbly, but they found the perfect one for their infamous ELT sandwich. Umm... who knew that you could deep fry eggplant skin and have it taste so good? Awesome. With a side salad to your sandwich, you will feel healthier. However, it's not really about the healthfulness here. It's more about how happy your mouth will be in eating this all vegan, very gluten-free friendly food. Because.... after having an appetizer, drink and sandwich or salad.... the gluten-free desserts on the counter are yelling your name, not calling, y-e-l-l-i-n-g. So, I do like to respect my desserts. The cookies are huge, chunky mounds of deliciousness. Peanut chocolate anything is going to be good, and it is! Muffins - not too shabby.... quite moist. Cake/ cupcakes - oh, yes. Who doesn't like a good cupcake? Note that the staff here may not be the size of other eateries. While I was here, people kept rolling into the eatery, but there were only 2 staffers. So, be patient. Good food comes to those who wait. They were really nice, though. Also..... the ingredients, if you're wondering, are fresh, but, they are not 100% organic... really, if that were to happen, it's cool, but customers would pay far more, and would probably not feel it justified.... Quaint cafe, located in the historic Chace Mill building, on the south bank of the Winooski River, at the site of the (lower?) Winooski Falls. There's limited indoor seating, with a few window seats offering a view of the river, and the Winooski Falls. There's porch seating as well, though strong breezes from the river can make eating outdoors a bit challenging. The menu is pretty diverse. Everything is vegan. In keeping with my preferences for vegan food that's of the whole foods with no (sometimes limited) added oil variety, I opted for the Buddha-ful bowl. I asked for the peanut sauce on the side. I had a Chun Mee green tea, and a piece of chocolate brownie, that looked too tempting to pass up! The bowl was pretty good. All of the components were placed separately, giving me the option to eat them as-is (to enjoy individual flavors) or after a good mix (to enjoy composed flavors). I tried it both ways, and it all tasted good. I saved the brownie for an evening snack, and ended up having half of it the next evening. It was not overly sweet, and held together well. Best vegetarian and vegan food in Wooniski. While touring factories in Burlington, my husband and Is topped into Pingala for lunch and were blown away! They have such an extensive menu filled with vegetarian and vegan food. It's a small, cute space with shabby chic/farmhouse decor. The space itself is within the larger building that was an old mill but now houses this restaurant, a yoga studio and several lawyer offices and other firms. We couldn't decide what to try, so we decided to try a few things. We got some spring rolls which were really great, freshly rolled and filled with tofu and vegetables. I ordered the Food Truck burger which was a Korean BBQ tofu with slaw and it came with salad and pickle. So so good. Everything on their menu was like food-truck fare, but all vegetarian and vegan. The staff was so friendly and the food tasted so fresh and flavorful. I would recommend this to anyone visiting the area looking for really good vegetarian or vegan food. read more

Got some takeout on Sunday afternoon. Really impressive menu, and another case of "I wish I could just order everything." We had the crunchwrap supreme and karma shwarma wraps. The crunchwrap supreme suffered from that classic vegan problem of all the ingredients being the same texture (indistinguishable mush) and seriously lacked in the misleading "crunch" part of the name. But I would highly recommend the karma shwarma wrap which brought some serious flavor and texture between the Impossible burger and kimchi. Friends also experienced the vegan "hot dog" (marinated carrot) for the first time and seemed to enjoy it. I was disappointed that the "broccoli bites" were just pieces of broccoli with sauce. Now, coming to the restaurant and food. We were a little confused when we walked in since we weren't sure if it was a sit-down and order sort of place or if we had to place the order at the window. We went a little past lunch time so there was not much crowd and we were able to place our orders immediately. The menu is pretty elaborate and has some really good options without being over the top. We ordered the broccoli bites and dumplings from the sharable options and the vegan crunch wrap customized with spicy seitan. We chose to sit outside as it was a beautiful day outdoors to enjoy lunch. The food took a little bit of time to come and they all arrived almost at the same time. The dumplings were definitely our favorite from the sharables.l love broccoli but my husband isn't a big fan. Unfortunately, even for me, the broccoli was a little undercooked and the sauce wasn't coated well enough for it to absorb the flavor. The crunch wrap was brilliant and probably the best thing we ate that day. It was well cooked and seasoned. The crunch was on point. Pingala café has a lovely location overlooking the river with outdoor seating made available on their patio. They also have a couple of socially distanced tables available for seating inside the restaurant space. Ordered online when we were about 15 mins away because that's how long it said the wait was. We were heading there for a late lunch about 40 mins before they closed and they had already started to run out of a lot of things on the menu. When we got there the food ultimately took quite a while longer to get ready, realized that they were also accepting walk in orders and they seemed to be really busy. In any case, I guess they have to be extra careful with everything these days so the wait wasn't that big of a deal. We had a large order and the food when it came was excellent. I particularly enjoyed the korean bbq burger with the lentil patty (which was perfectly crunchy) and the kimchi provided just the right amount of kick. The nachos were fantastic as well and were the first to disappear. We got all 3 kinds of dogs but although the trimmings were excellent a few people were not fans of the hickory smoked carrot used in lieu of the sausage, I didn't mind them but I figured they'd offer them with an option of vegan sausage as well. The karma shawarma was also good. I love what they are trying to do with vegetarian/vegan takes on quintessential american staples and the place is definitely worth a visit when in the Burlington area. read more

Do yourself a favor and cook your own Impossible Burger at home so it will be hot on your plate. The cafe is located near the water. There was ample parking. Upon walking in, a large menu hangs on the wall, along with paper menus available, and a specials board hangs above the register. You place your order at the register, they give you a #, and you sit down. The original seating area was small. I believe there was additional seating around the corner, but I'm not sure. This cafe seemed to share the building with an exercise studio. The French toast was absolutely delicious. The cinnamon butter was on point. There wasn't enough mixed berry coulis for my taste. It seemed like less than a spoonful worth. For $11.95, I would say it was ALMOST worth the price. The quesadilla special was ok. I didn't taste any queso, and some meat alternative would have made it more filling. I've made better vegan quesadillas at home honestly. The plant power smoothie was delicious, but the $6.25 price tag made it not worth it. Also, the recycled straws kept breaking in my mouth. Overall the food came out in a decent time frame and tasted pretty good. The staff was nice and helpful. The prices were too steep for my liking. HOWEVER! I've always found a lot of their foods to be somewhat wet, their attempts to replicate normal meals was ok. They did always have a very amazing eggplant bacon. Today I ordered a favorite that comes with the "bacon" and it was brought out with roasted carrots instead of the bacon. When I asked they said they discontinued the eggplant bacon. The menu online and in store still listed eggplant bacon. I was very disappointed the carrot wasn't crunchy or bacon flavor. Pingala Cafe is a food truck-inspired vegan cafe. I decided to order two small dishes and one large dish for takeout. The first item I ate were the fresh rolls, which are summer rolls with rice noodles, pickled vegetables, mixed greens and a peanut dipping sauce. They were incredible. The dish came with two rolls which were pretty large and substantial for an appetizer and, in my perfect world, every meal would include peanut sauce. My plan was to eat the Buddha-ful Bowl for my main course and then the Broccoli Bites if I was still hungry, or save it for the seven hour car ride the next day. However, I ended up being very grateful for the Broccoli Bites because I could not stomach the Buddha-ful Bowl. The description sounded great: Coconut brown rice with steamed kale, broccoli, roasted sweet potato puree, braised tempeh, ginger-pickled vegetables, sunflower seed crunch, topped with peanut sauce. I do not know what I found so repulsive about it, but I could barely eat anything other than the vegetables at the top. I honestly cannot remember ever not being able to eat a meal at a restaurant before, so this was a new experience for me. However, a friend I was with, who is also vegan, finished the dish for me and enjoyed it. The Broccoli Bites were really good, as well. I didn't taste much peanut sauce, but I enjoyed the simplicity of the meal and the pickled vegetables at the top. Compared to other vegan / vegetarian only restaurant this place is kind of sub par. I mean if your vegan try it because options are limited but the menu could use a bit tweaking. Their crunch wrap was flavored with curry instead of a taco seasoning. And their " not avocado " that they advertise taste just like that. Not avocado. It tastes like if you mushed up white beans and maybe put some peas in it to make it green. They're broccoli was really good with the watery peanut sauce they put on it. My 2-year-old ate the whole plate. The cashew cheese they use is sweet and has no other flavor and they're nachos need more of a nacho flavor. Obviously cooking without dairy/any animal products is a difficult thing to do but this place really mastered their recipes and if I lived in Burlington I would be a regular. I had the French toast which was stellar, but to make the dish even better, thanks to a suggestion from a friend, was to do an add on of the eggplant bacon. It's smokey, well seasoned and the perfect balance for the sweet maple syrup on the toast. The place is located in a very cute and quiet spot right across the bridge from Winooski. From the view of the Winooski river falls with its juxtaposed gentrified factories and bubble lettered graffiti (the best seat in the house is the one in front of this vista and behind the triangular table you must squeeze past to reach), to the interior pics of guitar legends Prince and Hendrix and colorfully eclectic walls (a reflection of the colorfully eclectic menu). For my Sunday morning starter I default to the Dirty Chai smoothie with its invigorating shot of cinnamon. And though I've tried multiple menu items over several visits, all delicious, at this point I'd have to say my favorite is the Buddha Boi--a savory melange of warm roasted carrots and broccoli, pickled veggies, full bodied brown rice, and greens all slathered (featured in much of its fare, slathering is something Pingala does best) in a zingy peanut sauce. Everything was delicious but my main complaint albeit a small one was the bland tasting tofu in the rooster. I wish it had been marinated in the maple sriracha sauce. The Crunchwrap was delicious and had a bit too much lime for my taste but nothing major. Also appreciate the fact that you can place an order online and pickup from the table inside. The time that was estimated for pickup was perfect. I ordered at 2:45pm and was told to pick up after 3:07. I like that kind of precision. A lovely cafe serving fresh plant-based food. Located ten minutes from the airport this nice little spot will satisfy diners with a variety of dietary preferences. This place was a win all-around. We split the Vermonter "Gouda" sandwich and the Broccoli Buffalo Bites. Flavors were Balanced well and everything was seasoned appropriately. Thank you for that. Holy cow is it good! Not only is the food great, but the service is friendly, there's parking, and it's right on the Winooksi river so A+ for location. There's both indoor and outdoor seating and you can also get their food to go. I could not finish the pancakes due to the large portion size (my son took care of that). Real maple syrup, of course, and cinnamon "butter".
