This bakery is wonderful. There are so many fantastic looking items, I never know what to get. I've tried the chocolate eclairs and the cream puffs - both are great. I've had the cannolis - regular and chocolate and they're the best I've ever had. We've gotten some cakes here for birthdays - my favorite is the Oreo cake. The service is very helpful and efficient, there's always a line but it moves quickly. Parking can be a problem - there's not much of it. read more

Nice place with lots of people so they must be doing something right. I had the pecan chocolate bar which was excellent At 1.50 and a medium coffee which was very good not burnt not bitter or overly strong for another 1.50 Some of the pastries look excellent and some look average so look carefully and check the prices they appear to be a little bit all over the place. I get my daughter's cake from you every year and each time I just randomly give a couple colors and say "bold and bright" and let your artists just do their thing. I am in love with this place, in fact I have a full blown problem. When we moved to the area a couple of months ago my realtor mentioned this place to me and I almost wish she hadn't because I'm addicted. I have not had one pastry that I disliked. Their fresh donuts are amazing. The fresh breads are great. The breakfast sandwiches are alright but I'll give them a pass because all of the sweets are amazing. I will NEVER go back to this bakery again. They absolutely ruined my daughters first birthday party. I showed them a picture of the barney cake that I wanted, they informed me they were able to do it and what they gave me was an absolute MONSTROSITY. They left me with two hours to go find a new cake for my daughter on the day of her first birthday party and when I called to tell them about the cake the lady on the phone tells me "well its a hand drawn cake, what do you expect?" UM I EXPECT THE CAKE I ASKED FOR THAT YOU SAID THAT YOU WERE ABLE TO DO!! then when I go to return the cake, the manager doesn't even have the decency to come out and apologize!! I was here to get some bread and sweets on 2/20/14. After waiting on a very short line I approached the counter to be served. One girl in particular ignored me countless times but she served others that were behind me in line. I stood there for TEN minutes waiting. Finally a young man helped me. I expressed why I was annoyed. He said he was sorry. However the situation wasn't his fault. I was glad he at least helped me. I can understand if the place was crowded and it was busy. It wasn't. Great Portuguese bakery with a ton of tasty treats. This is the place I go to for brown (or white) derby cakes. There are better custard cups/pasteis de nata in Newark, but since this place is so close to me, theirs will do. A lot of their employees are pretty young which might account for the occasional 'tude and/or lack of knowledge of dealing with people. This doesn't deter me because I just go in, get what I need, and go. Keep in mind that they're closed on Mondays - I've had a few occasions in which I've driven there and realized upon arriving that it was closed. read more

Let me start by saying that this a lovely bakery. Fairly large that you could enjoy lunch or dessert and cafe. Large amounts of delicious pastries and another side that is a deli. I have always loved coming here until yesterday. I know it was Sunday and they were closing at 6pm. My mother and i got there at 430 pm. We asked for Portuguese toast and cafe con leche which is basically espresso with milk. The girls behind the counters did not want to work. Terrible service. Kept making faces at each other as if my mom and my order was too much for them to make. They informed us they had no milk. A bakery without milk???? They manager came out and told us she had been busy and didnt have time to buy milk. The owner was nice enough to come to our table and apologize for not having milk. My note to the owner- you have a lovely bakery in a very good location. Hire employees that like and enjoy their jobs. And a Manager that cares about your business and represents you professionally. This place is the best, all the pastries are delicious and super fresh. I Have ordered cakes from here like 8 times, everyone has always been the best and exactly what I ordered. especially the price. Great Bread too. I read one review bashing there custard cups, what an ass, if you ever been to pinhos, most of the customers are not portuguese and cannot pronounce Pastel de Nate or however you say it. I know I never say it right. Maybe that's why they call it a custard cup. I guess the huge lines every week and the 25 girls behind the counter working says it all on how business is going there. That long line always scares me, but I know I am always there no longer than 10 minutes, even if the line is out the door. Great Job Pinhos. read more

The Pinho's Web Site didn't list hours and when I called I got a generic voice mail message that said the mailbox was full. We have patronized this bakery for years and found their larger cakes tend to be very dry. Which make me wonder if the cakes are mass produced. When you buy cold cuts have to watch of cross contamination, slicing different meats on the same machine. read more

Their customer service is unbelievable. I ordered a smash cake for my daughter's 1st birthday photo shoot from another bakery. When I picked it up, it was a jumbo cupcake instead of a cupcake cake. I called several bakeries and no one could do anything for me last minute. I called my photographer and she recommended this bakery. The woman who answered was so sweet and helpful. She asked me to text her a picture of the cake we wanted. I called her back after the picture was sent and she told me they would gladly make it. Mind you, this is for the same day. After hearing good things about this bakery, I drove out of my way to give it a try. Upon my arrival, I immediately noticed it's completely unorganized causing unnecessary long wait times due to poor management. The young lady at the counter assisted me with my order, but once it was time to check out, it was the worst experience. An older woman, with grey hair, I believe named Sylvia took over and repeatedly slammed my bag with my pastries and bread on the counter as she took my order for 1 deli sandwich. At no point did she acknowledge me or look at me, and barked her questions at me. When it was time to ring me up, she rudely gave me my total while still aggressively handled my order. Forgot my drink, and disappeared so I never did get it. This place treats customers like they are disposable and clearly can't keep up with the volume they attract. I grew up in a Portuguese neighborhood and if this place was located there, they would fail. The only reason they're so sought out is because they're in Roselle and there are limited places that sells these goods. I have to thank Pinho's bakery! It was the Monday before Christmas and I needed a big ( and I mean big) tray of cookies as a warehouse gift for a company we deal with all of the time. The original order fell short and I was in a real bind. I called Pinho's on there day off and they answered the phone quickly. They let me know that I could come by in 10 minutes and pick up the tray that I needed!! I have to again mention they were closed and just in to prep for by he holiday. When I got there I discovered a very long dark curly hair right on top of the pound cake - inside the packaging. I love Pinho's bakery everything I ever bought from them is delicious. The only thing that bothers me being a slight germaphobe, is they have pastries and pies on top of their counters and everytime I see this, I don't want to purchase anything on the top counters because nothing is covered and I think of when people speak I think saliva might have came out of their mouth and possibly landed on the pastries and pies do to their pronunciation of words. As busy as this place is between the workers talking over the pastries and pies and customers. Someones saliva has landed on them. That is the only problem I have. If they have a pie in the display case that is also on the top counter thats not covered I'll purchase the one in the display case. The only way I'll purchase anything on the top counter is if it is wrapped or covered. read more
