I stopped in here for lunch on a Monday afternoon after walking around Mystic for the day. I was excited to see all the different Asian options they had and their large sushi menu. They are doing seating outside and you have to go around to the back to find the outdoor patio, no going through the front entrance. We were seated quickly and our waitress was always checking on us and friendly. We ended up sharing a sushi/sashimi plate as well as a Philadelphia Roll. The food was good and nice and fresh. How I will say that the sushi prices were pretty expensive. The Philadelphia Roll was $7.95 and I can get the same size roll at another place for $4. Additionally they are using all disposable utensils and plates/bowls which I wasn't a fan of. There just seemed to be a large amount of waste and they were using regular glasses for water, so they clearly could do dishes. I wasn't a big fan of all the plastic and paper being thrown away. However the food was good, you just need to accept higher prices and disposable serving wear. read more

The flavor was good, but it took 2 1/2 hours to get the delivery, the pho broth was lukewarm, the noodles were in a different container and all fused together in one big disk, my mango smoothie was missing, and when I tried to contact them about it, they had closed early. I don't like to post negatively but after 3 visits to Pink Basil I'm going to share my experience. Thai Sawasdee in Groton was a favorite restaurant of mine and I was sad when it closed. I heard Pink Basil owned Thai Sawasdee so I checked it out. My husband and I chose to dine in on the patio but after waiting more than 20 minutes after being seated with no interaction from the wait staff, we opted to get up and order takeout, which took much longer than we were initially told. I always give a second chance, this time we ordered takeout, picked it up and when we got home the noodles in the Cantonese noodle dish were not in the bag. I called, and they offered a free Cantonese noodles dish when we came in the next time. That next time was tonight, try number three ... At 6:02pm we ordered a sushi roll and Cantonese noodles they told us it would be 20 minutes. We got back at 6:23pm I got the sushi roll and was told it would be another five minutes for the Cantonese noodle dish and then told several more times it'll be a few more minutes. The wait staff was great checking in to keep me posted. We finally received the Cantonese noodle meal to go at 6:55 PM. Takes me 20 minutes to get home and I'm sad to say that it was not worth the wait, there was very little flavor to the dish at all. I hope if you chose to visit Pink Basil you have a better experience than I did! read more

Second time here, I do live close (20 mins or so) I went here with my fiance as a date night. And we love asian food. I got ramen and he got Bulgogi with kimchi and red rice. We both loved it. This was my first time having REAL ramen too. It is pricey. ($51 for 2 of us) but as a once in awhile thing, its great. I'd definitely come here again. They were surprisingly quick for being understaffed. We didn't mind waiting because we barely get alone time together with just us two. Everyone was REALLY friendly too. read more

Tried out the outdoor patio dining post-Covid reopening. The tables were socially distanced and the staff were wearing masks. Marianne was very friendly and helpful. We received a paper menu and all plates and silverware were disposable. We had the Tom Yum Soup, Grilled Thai Salad, and Thai BBQ. The Tom Yum soup was very fresh and flavorful. I ordered with shrimp and there were 3 pieces of jumbo shrimp in the soup. The Thai Salad came with thinly sliced piece of charred beef with a delicious vinaigrette. The Thai BBQ was super filling and came on a bed of vegetables. Overall, I enjoyed the meal and the food was really delicious! Came in on a Sunday night for a party of three. We were seated promptly with the restaurant about half full. The wait staff were polite and came over quickly. The menu has plenty of options for drinks (full bar) and food items. To start, we got the sushi donut, which had a considerable amount of fish. For dinner, I got the Nonya curry. The curry itself tasted amazing, but when you add the fresh and tempura vegetables, it was another level of good! The prices were definitely reasonable, especially considering the portion. I love Pink Basil! I've eaten here before but stopped in the other day because it was Mystic Restaurant Week and they had a great deal! The portions were the perfect size, the food was tasty and our waitress was friendly, attentive and nice. I got the miso soup, avocado salad, spicy tuna roll and the kimchee rice. My friend and I also got the sushi nachos and pot stickers to share thinking we might need something more than our meals. We were wrong and ended up having to box up most of our main course because we had so much food. The kimchee rice made for an excellent lunch the next day. We visited on Sunday 11 January 2020 and arrived as the restaurant opened. Service is good. The servers are attentive young people who know the menu. We ordered hot food not sushi. There is not much atmosphere. Some Asian art music might be good options since the inside looks more like a Bob Evans. The food is very good although maybe a little salty. Prices are quite reasonable given that the portions are ENORMOUS. Each entree is a family-style potion. Since we are only in Mystic for the day, we can't pack the leftovers, so a lot of food went to waste. Smaller portions would probably save money for the owner yet still satisfy guests. Red rice is lower in glycemic index, which is good for us as diabetics, and it gives the restaurant a signature-dish feel, but it isn't as tasty as jasmine or basmati rice. read more

The food here is great, excellent, however the atmosphere is meh. I would prefer to order meals to go as I don't really feel a great consistent vibe. Drinks: The drink selection is awesome, and they have a large selection of options, including specials. We ordered the Scorpian Bowl and it was delicious, large enough to share with 151 on fire in the middle, booooozeeeey. Appetizers: everything we got were delicious especially the crispy duck rolls which were more like tacos, not actual rolls, but surprisingly delicious. Avocado salad is a must (as a meal or you can split as an appetizer) Dinner: the one rice dish we got was very underwhelming and plain BUT the bok choy and garlic dishes were amazing. Nope. They require ID for all credit card transactions. That's prohibited by credit card merchant agreements and I'll be reporting them to Visa and MasterCard as being in violation. They require that he not check ID as a condition of sale ever. Absolute sh*t show here, from the moment you walk in the door until the moment you leave. The greeter was trying , he did the best he could. He was young and seemed brand new. The waiter yelling to all seated guests "who ordered the pot stickers?!" The menu was the wrong menu. Items ordered not available. We ordered appetizers that were overcooked and not good. Waiter literally disappeared, I think he might of quit. All 5 tables need to be bused. Go to pay the bill, no one has cash to make change. The greeter pulls out his wallet to make change. My one complaint was that I tried to call from 5pm-6:44pm and the phone was off the hook. At 7ish the phone was finally ringing, but no one answered. It was a disaster. 75 degrees in restaurant, flies everywhere. My sushi came out tasteless at best, fishy at worst (spicy scallop roll was all cucumber. Squid was supposed to be sashimi but came out sushi and fishy. Octopus also supposed to be sashimi and came out sushi. Not fishy but bland. Masago sushi was excellent.) waitress never came back to check on us so I didn't even bother to tell her. Seaweed salad was ALL iceberg lettuce and one tablespoon of seaweed. My aunt and uncle live in Stonington, and every time I come to visit (4+ times per year) we eat at pink basil. Best Thai in the area and the portions are massive! I got the house special chicken along with the coconut soup appetizer (which was my all time favorite I even tried to replicate it at home!). I have to say there food here and service was great, BUT This is the second time I have eaten here in a year, I don't live local. This is the second time the menu does not reflect the price they charge you on your bill. The first time no big deal figured it was a mistake but then it happens again eight months later? I told the server who was very nice. He another server comes to tell me the reason it happened. I had to then ask them to charge the menu price. They then had to ask the owner??? This is crazy to me!!! It was only $3 but that was not the point. We loved the food and would have liked to go back a few days later but instead went to mangos as I did not want to have to beg for a price adjustment again. I have to say the owner should reflect on why they have a great product yet when we ate there they only had two tables with customers and Mangos and jealous Monk were packed. They lost us to another restaurant, that is not the way to do business. How dare you say I was confused about the menu price!!! You charged $1.00 more for three different items on YOUR menu! For example I ordered the dumplings and the menus said $7.99and I was charged $8.99. That would be YOUR mistake not mine. Another table heard the whole thing and Im sure complained as well. I suggest before you accuse a paying customer of reading a price on the menu wrong you check yourself. My family was on vacation and decided to visit this location two days in a row because the first day was just TOO good! yesterday we had green curry pineapple fried rice shrimp tempura rolls and all of it was amazing! Our server was so sweet and paid extra attention to details. Our drinks were perfect. Today they were busy and we still had great service we had a different waitress today and she didn't disappoint. It was my daughters birthday and they sang and had some cakes to choose from for her. She was pretty happy and with full bellies they slept for the car ride home! Don't waste your time - service is nonexistent or just poor, or both. We didn't even get to try this place - we were turned away despite having a reservation because one woman who seemed to run the place/was the senior voice didn't like that we were a large group, after we showed up. The only plus was that being turned away led us to find a wonderful meal at a fun trattoria on the other side of the complex. They had no issue cobbling some outside tables together and were generous and welcoming. To be fair, I'm not sure if this place was willing to seat us, or not - I was so turned off by their distaste for my party that I didn't want to bother to find out. We had called when they opened to see if they could seat our large party outside, and the person on the phone took down my info and didn't mention an issue or say that it was too short notice. But, when we showed up, another person greeted us found our reservation and said the patio was full. I requested outdoor seating again, and she said we could sit out front, but they would have to arrange the tables. We were fine to wait. Then someone else walked up, she seemed more senior (maybe the proprietor?) made a fuss that we were a last minute reservation and not all there (the second half of our party was parking their car), and griped about how big parties were a hassle (practically yelling at the woman who greeted us). So, I offered that we didn't have to eat there since we seemed like such a bother. Unsure why a place that needs customers, albeit in a tourism destination, would be that abjectly rude. We are so grateful to have this place in our town! We've been dining here since they opened. The food is always fresh and full of great fresh vegetables and herbs. The owner and staff are very welcoming. Ordering take out online is easy and usually reliable. They've misplaced the order once or twice but quickly recovered. (This was at the height of COVID when they were doing tons of take out orders). We've found them to be overwhelmed a few times when eating in on a Saturday night. (To address a few other reviewer's comments) but even when the order is slow, the food is great - worth the wait. read more

I can't complain about this one, it was good enough Thai food. I enjoyed the Massoman curry, a favorite of mine. This particular curry was sweet, and the portion meant for a giant (though I was able to finish it). It has some substance, enough to stick to the back of a spoon. The flavors were there, and all together I cannot complain. The crying and screaming kids didn't help make the experience more enjoyable, but it's the parent's fault, no the restaurant. Too much going on In the menu. Food is overpriced for the quality of the food. Customer service was not the best.

So disappointed. I heard it was good, so I wanted to try it. I ordered the lettuce wraps. It was not even close to what the menu said it was. Instead of ground chicken they used chicken satay and cut it up in big chunks. You could see the skewer holes in the chicken. It was supposed to have cashews but was covered in chopped peanuts-covered! When I mentioned it to the waitress her response was, "they changed it". Change is fine, but it should have been mentioned when I ordered it. I heard another table complaining about a change to their meal and got the same response, so just be aware especially if you have food allergies. read more

Once again, we had a fantastic lunch at Pink Basil! Our server Marianne always gives phenomenal service and consistently brings a warm and welcoming attitude. Our sushi appetizers, tempura sweet potato, were very good. My spicy string bean dish with tofu was the perfect level of spice, and my wife's crispy garlic dish was excellent as well. We arrived tonight before 6 pm and the restaurant had a few guests dining inside. we ordered an appetizer and 2 entrees. the app came out quickly and then we sat and waited and watched the restaurant fill with many guests who received their food in a timely fashion and we waited and waited. the young server came over and let us know our food would come shortly that the kitchen was busy. the people around us who came much later were getting their meals as we waited.... An hour after we arrived a staff member came and apologized and asked if we wanted a complimentary drink which we declined. My husband walked out and I paid the tab for the app reluctantly as it was the right thing to do. they should have comped it and I wouldn't be writing this bad review. the server should have admitted he forgot to put in our order. No one goes here for good food. It is convenient, however, and portions are generous. That said, you can go here 3xs in one week, order the same dish, and it will be prepared differently each time. Service is idiosyncratic-- we've had very good young servers, a weird server who goes around singing jesus songs, and a plump older server who is smug, lazy and ignores you. We've been there when a young child of an employee or the owner has been running around and through the restaurant. Disappointing place--but it's the only "thai" restaurant in Mystic. read more
