A build your own salad is $12 and includes unlimited toppings - they pretty much have anything you can think of! I paid an extra $4 to add chicken. You also have an option to get the salad chopped. This salad was HUGE. I'm talking several pounds. More than enough for two meals (and I'm usually somebody who doesn't fill up on salads). Great value for the price considering the portion size and the freshness of the ingredients. The gentleman helping me was also incredibly warm and helpful. First, if you haven't been to Mystic - you should check out this quintessential town on the water. We were headed back to NY by ferry and wanted a quick lunch before our trip home. Cue Mystic Salad - fits the bill as being quick and salad = healthy, which makes us happy. We came in and who I believe to be the owner Jed took our order. $10 for a salad with unlimited toppings- quite the deal. My local salad co only lets you pick 4, with croutons counting as one. Bogus. Not at Mystic. You can get double the croutons! Peppers! Cucumbers! Sunflower seeds! Limitless possibilities. You want two types of greens? You got it. I opted for spinach and mescaline greens. There are a plethora of toppings for you to mix into your salad. Protein is an extra $4. Avocado $1.50. I would love a vegetarian friendly protein - maybe falafel, veggie burger or a tofu? That would be my one suggestion. They have so many sals dressings to choose from. I tried the poppy seed one which was good but ended up going for the sesame ginger - really yummy. My husband also got a salad and added chicken to his. Originally we were going to share with our son because the salads are quite large but if you have young kids you know how it is some days. Growing upset and wanting his own salad we were trying to encourage there's enough for the three of us when Jed came to the rescue. He made our kid his own salad portioned down for $3! Jed must have kids of his own, be the funcle (fun uncle$ have the patience of a saint or all of the above. Of course our kid chose like three things for his salad and it was on the smaller side but perfect for him. Jed was so kind and gracious and handled this like a total pro and helped stave off a meltdown from a 6 year old. If I lived in Mystic I'd be here all the time. This is one of those places if you could give 6 stars I would! What a hidden gem in downtown Mystic. This will be the largest $10 salad you could ever find. You can choose endless add ins to a variety of 3 green leafy choices. My guess is there are around 30 amazing choices from artichokes , edamame to a myriad of beans and seeds. A slight extra.charge for fresh roasted chicken and avocados but soooo worth it. All the ingredients are incredibly fresh. Not to mention a wide arrangement of dressings. It's nothing special, like they don't have any salad suggestions for you, but they're super friendly and everything seemed fresh. These salads were massive! I got mine with the ahi tuna protein, it is fresh ahi tuna not canned tuna. I piled on so many toppings, they really make these salads ginormous I couldn't even finish mine! My husband got a salad with grilled chicken on it and was luckily able to finish the entire salad. Great salad spot in Mystic! I came here this afternoon to grab a healthy lunch. I made myself somewhat of a Greek salad and it was absolutely delicious, probably one of the best salads I've had! All of the ingredients were fresh, the chicken was great, and I definitely will be back in the future to enjoy again when I'm back in the area. The staff was also super nice, the gentleman behind the counter acknowledged me the moment I walked in and asked me if I had been there before. When I said no, he explained the create your own salad process to me and made it. Very seamless experience. I enjoy places run by nice people, it makes all the difference and he was super nice to my nephew too! I will note, there wasn't anywhere to sit but I think they sometimes might have the area next door open? I'm not sure. You might recall Mystic Salad Co.'s location as the former site of all-vegan Biologic + that closed a half year before MSC opened in June 2019. Whereas Biologic + tolerated but discouraged dine-in with its 4 unstable high stools, MSC is solely takeout. Instead of eat-in, along the canal right outside its front door there are ample benches where you can have laptop picnics. The menu comprises one customized salad and one soup. Nothing fancy. So unlike for other eateries in Mystic, this is not a destination eatery that might lure you to endure the traffic turmoil of downtown Mystic. Rather, eat at MSC because you're already ensconced in Mystic and you seek an inexpensive but nourishing lunch. MSC could qualify as all-vegetarian except for the one topping of chicken available at a surcharge. The soup the day I was there was vegetarian, as noted on the small chalkboard. The only other signage is a handwritten listing on a whiteboard of the 8 or 9 dressings, of which several are vegan, but to know that you must ask. (MSC, can you take a hint?) The salad is basic salad bar fare, like in some fast-casual restaurants pre-Covid, but you don't serve yourself. Instead you instruct the very gracious server of your choices. The base is one of three greens, including baby spinach. Among the 16 or so toppings, a few are cheesy, but the majority are vegan, consisting half of canned vegetables, including beets and artichoke hearts, and half of fresh raw vegetables, including mushrooms. Among the three canned beans is edamame soybeans, a pleasant surprise. To top it off you choose from 4 sprinkles, including for a nutritional boost raw sunflower seeds and raw pumpkin seeds. After you select your dressing, the server tosses it all together and serves it in a compostable paperboard container. The size of the salad is large, even by this whole-foodist vegan's standards. And its price is enticing, especially by tourist mecca Mystic's standards. And unlike the rest of downtown, parking on this one-way side street is ample. The name Mystic spawns a mystique in some tourists' minds, the way the name Vermont evokes wholesomeness. Hence many Vermont-based food companies add the word Vermont to their names. For touristy reasons, Mystic Salad Co. does the same with the word Mystic. Add the word Salad, and here you've got wholesomeness, too. A quick and inexpensive yet highly nourishing meal for all. read more
