Pink Basil is an adorable restaurant in the village. It certainly seemed promising. I ordered three rolls of sushi, a Philly, a Boston and the "Old Mystic Village Roll" which was basically a fancy Sakura Roll with spicy mayo and eel sauce. The Boston Roll was far too salty. I could tell the shrimp was cheap and previously frozen. The mayo on top of the roll was unbelievably salty. I was floored. The Village Roll was about $14.00 or so and I ate one piece. It was TERRIBLE. The shrimp tempura inside was so crunchy it might as well had no shrimp inside. Of that entire roll two other pieces were eaten and those were my friends. They both agreed as well. Huge waste of money. I would not suggest sushi from this place only the actual entrees. I probably won't go back. The only saving grace was the sweet waitress. Very kind. read more

Sushi was ok. Service was bad. I can't sugar coat it. I travel a lot and go on average to at least 4 restaurants per week. When it came to time to pay the bill I was insulted and kind of embarrassed. I gave the waiter my credit card, he looked at it and asked for ID. I gave him my drivers license, he looked at it and made a comment about it being a real state issued license. Excellent service and willingness to please! You can tell the chefs truly care about the food, as their presentation is just as beautiful as the taste! Great ambiance out on the patio. Best sushi I have had in a long time, and the ojinugh bokum was delicious (so good we forgot to take its picture before digging in)! We asked our server how the squid was prepared, as it was beautifully presented, and he went back to the kitchen, found out, and told us the way the chefs cut and sliced it! When we arrived there was a party of 6 waiting for a a table with no host/hostess around. After about 5 minutes they were seated as were we. It took 20 minutes before any one came to see if we wanted a drink and it took 45 minutes before drinks were delivered to half of our party. It took over an hour for our appetizers to be delivered and one of our party's main dish salad was delivered with appetizers not with everyone else's meals. Went this past weekend. There was no wait to be seated on the patio but we didn't have any waiter come to our table for 15+ min once we were seated. I had to go inside and ask the hostess to send someone out. Apparently, they didn't write us down on the seating map so there wasn't a waiter assigned. Once we did get someone to come to our table, the waiter was very nice and many of the issues were not his fault at all. We started with a Kani salad and seaweed salad. Seaweed salad was fine, nothing special. For the kani salad they first brought out a regular garden salad. When we mentioned it was the wrong order, they returned with that same salad with just some Kani on top. Certainly not like any kani salad I've ever encountered. We also ordered a few special sushi rolls. These ranged from meh to pretty gross. The fish didn't seem super high quality and the avocado was browning. Just overall not very tasty. Made reservations for family and close friends following my retirement from the Navy for 25 on a Friday afternoon. Ended up having over 30 in town. The restaurant was extremely accommodating in supporting the extra people. We were on the back patio which was great since it allowed the noise from the party to escape and not bother others. Hands down the WORST experience I've had in a LONG time dining anywhere. Our waitress was awful. Didn't seem to understand anything and brought me the wrong order.. when I told her that I had 100 Percent told her chicken pho and not beef- she insisted that I just said " pho" and pho always automatically comes with beef. Not true. Plus I had said chicken so it didn't matter. For the prices the service was horrendous- all of our food brought out at odd times so one person was eating and the other was waiting on their dish. This is my second time here. The first time was great. Last night was just awful. When we arrived there was a wait. We were told it would be about 25 minutes. We decided to wait for our table at the bar. The bartender, Paul, was pleasant but very overwhelmed. It took him awhile to come over to get our drink order. It was about a half hour later that he checked in with us to see if we wanted food. At this point our glasses had been empty for awhile. We told him we were waiting for a table. I then went to check to see how much longer and was told it would be another half hour. I wish we would have known it would take over an hour for a table, we would have gone elsewhere. We then decided to order an appetizer at the bar. At this point the bar had cleared out a bit and Paul was able to catch up. We ordered our appetizer. Also at this point the restaurant started to clear out, and there were several empty tables. We were finally seated, Paul was gracious enough to bring over our appetizer to our table. The vegetable pot stickers were good and served hot. It took about 10 minutes for our waiter to come over, mind you the restaurant was clearing out at this point and not completely slammed like it was before. The waiter came over and took our drink order, it then took awhile to get 2 small glasses of water, they were slammed down on the table before the waiter quickly took off. He then came back several minutes later and took our order. I ordered the Bangkok noodles with vegetables but requested no bell peppers. My fiancee ordered the shrimp teriyaki. The food arrived rather quickly however there were a lot of bell peppers in my food and my fiancees food was cold. The waiter never came over to check on the meal and I had to pick out the peppers. We had been finished for awhile and waited for our check, we waited so long that i almost went to the front to get it myself. When the waiter finally did come over, I pointed out that they had put peppers on my food, he was quick to blame the kitchen. Which I am sure was the case, but didn't make for good customer service. All in all it was just a negative experience all around. It was our anniversary and it wasn't pleasant at all. I usually don't write negative reviews, I was a server and understand that things don't always go perfectly but this was just unacceptable. I will not be returning. read more

This place has increasingly spiraled downward. We've gone here for years and their service is just horrible, and it's getting worse. They apparently will not invest in additional staffing (despite brisk business) which makes for long waits, complete lack of consideration for customers who are waiting for service and powerless wait staff who pretty much shrug when you tell them you've been waiting for 45 minutes on your meal. I am so upset about our take out order! I got a beef salad which is over drenched with dressing spilled everywhere! I don't know what logic they had but they used the flimsy foil container which barely even closed with a thin plastic lid. The dressing I am assuming has fish sauce in it, you can use your imagination and guess what the entire car and my dress smells like right now! And we have a long drive to go to NYC!!! But yet they used our dry noodles with the sturdy closed lid plastic container! Oh god if you ever get the beef salad to go make sure it's not in the foil container! read more

Veggies used in their stir fry are frozen and bland, dishes are cloyingly over sauced and inedible. We waited 45 minutes for our mains to be served which is fine if you're not on your lunch hour. The crispy chicken wings were tasty and came with a nice sweet fish sauce for dipping. Our waitress was very friendly. We ordered the Pink Basil Noodles with Tofu and Lemongrass Beef with noodle. Both of our dishes were very disappointing. The mother's dish came as a steak which looked, felt and tasted like it was old, frozen meat gray in color and bland in taste as if it was defrosted in the microwave and cooked on a George Foreman grill. The noodle which were a pile of plain rice noodles and 2 sauce bowls that had way to much fish sauce in it. The dish was uneatable and should be taken off the menu. My Pink Basil Tofu noodles were gummy, and the tofu was deep fat fried, the veggies were tender but the taste was as if it had a bit of soy sauce and most of it was tangy like too much rice vinegar. We both didn't eat it and when our waitress came my Mother told her the dish wasn't good. Unfortunately the waitress didn't offer for us to talk to a manager or offer to take the dish off the bill. I didn't make a complaint about my dish because 2 meals ordered and one complaint was bad enough. Not at all impressed with this place. read more

About three weeks ago my future daughter-in-law had dinner here. She decided to make reservations for her bachelorette party. The hostess took her reservation and told us there were no other parties booked for that night. Yesterday afternoon the future bride called the final guest count and they told us they wouldn't be able to seat is because they had a wedding party coming in at 2:00. Our reservation was for 5:00 and there were only 10 of us going to dinner. Needless to say, none of us will be eating there again. read more

Lunch time. We ordered Nonya curry. The serving spoon was deep in the sauce. Rice and veggie tempura were soaked in the curry sauce. So the tempura veggies were soggy. If ordered, ask the rice and veggies separate from the sauce. The sauce is tasty. Tom Yum soup was salty. Need to add water to eat it. The spicy taste of the soup is good. The food here was delicious, the drinks were very unique and hit the spot, but best of all was the outdoor seating area where they allowed us to dine with our dog! We loved the sushi, pad Thai, potstickers, and the avocado salad was fantastic! Otis, our pooch, sat by our feet the whole time, and the wait staff couldn't have been nicer to him or us! Great service, tucked in old mistick village so it was hard to find, but well worth the search. Had the raw octopus which wasn't chewy or slimy and tasted great! Also ate the tom yum soup with chicken, great blend of flavors and amazing broth. For the main course I had their signature stir fry which was fresh with veggies and chicken. Great color and flavor. My wife had the avocado coconut curry which tasted smooth as well. The coconut curry infused with avocado was great, the only thing we didn't like was having a half of an avocado along with the curry, the texture wasn't very pleasant. But overall it was great! Went for lunch midweek, winter. Very friendly and attentive staff, and HUGE lunch portions. We each had an app - spring rolls and green papaya salad and both were generous and very good. Salad was easily a meal, or could've been split between two or even three people. Entrees were dinner sized. Our curry was delicious and filled the plate-took about half home with us. Pink Basil special was very good, and almost finished. Would like to try it for dinner. Loved the selection of local (both CT and NE selections) beer, both bottle and draft. A nice-sized restaurant with plenty of space to move around and get seated quickly at least at this time of year. Nice to have a new place to go-I hope they do well there. Very easy on/off of I-95. If you like Thai or Asian fusion, skip the other obvious Mystic choices and don't bother trying to park downtown, just swing off the exit and then back on in no time. read more

Their pot stickers are some of the best I've ever had. I had a thai iced tea (great) their spicey ramen noodle soup and couldn't finish it in spite of my healthy appetite. Highly recommend. I found this place on Yelp reviews and only when we arrived to the acquarium nearby, I realized that It is right next to it. We really enjoyed our meal here. The ambiance is modern, with lots of booster seats which are great for families with kids. We ordered sushi, miso soup and a stir-fry with cashews. All dishes were very tasty. Okay so the food here is absolutely incredible I enjoyed it throughly. The sushi was fresh and the appetizers were delicious. The noodle dish I had for an entree was absolutely to die for. With all that being said my server Jennifer was probably the worst server I've ever had. I am in the business I work as a waiter myself and I know a good server when I see one. She took at least 15 minutes to even greet us. And when she did she just looked at us and asked what we wanted very short and absolutely dismissive. When I asked for anything it took an exorbitant amount of time. If it was busy I'd understand but it was a Monday night and you guys were pretty slow for the most part. the I don't normally post reviews but this experience was unfortunate because had the service been good, we would of had a wonderful evening. read more
