I had a horrible experience here-- This was my first visit, booked on a friend's recommendation, and it was especially meaningful as I was getting my hair done for my own engagement party that evening. My appointment with Marycate was scheduled for 3:00pm but didn't begin until after 3:10. While a short delay wouldn't normally bother me, the service itself was then rushed once the 3:30 client arrived. My wash and blow dry were completed in UNDER 30 minutes--even though I have long, curly hair--and I left the salon with VISIBLY WET ROOTS. My best friend, who was seated beside me, texted me mid-service because she couldn't believe my appointment was finished when it was clear my hair wasn't. Meanwhile, the client before me (as well as my friend) both had their hair styled thoroughly and looked great, which made my own rushed, half-done result even more noticeable. I even mentioned to Marycate that this blowout was for my own engagement party that night, yet she ended the service while my hair was still damp. She had to have known the result was not acceptable, but I still felt awkwardly pressured to tip when she had me scan her Venmo at the end. Out of politeness I did, but I left upset--and then had to COMPLETELY re-dry and re-style my hair at home. The appointment ended up being both stressful and a waste of money. To be clear, Marycate was pleasant and polite in demeanor, but the quality of service I received was unacceptable, especially compared to the care given to others in the salon that day. Made an early appt on a Sunday at the Danbury location for a blowout and makeup for a wedding. The scheduling person was able to fit me in at 8 even though the time was no longer available online which I was super thankful for. It's rare to find a salon that opens at 8 on a Sunday. Some of these reviews made me nervous but I figured I'd give the location a shot and I'm really glad that I did. Ana did my blowout and did a really nice job. Chantal did my makeup and was fantastic. I received a ton of a compliments throughout the night and felt really great. Both of them were friendly and knew what they were doing. This place was ridiculous. First they had a stylist not show up so 3 people were doing the jobs of 4 but nobody bothered to call and tell the clients they were running at least 15 minutes behind. Then I sat down and asked for a fishtail braid and showed a picture and the stylist said oh I suck at braids! (Braids are advertised on their website as an available service) The messy, falling down rats nest pictured below is what I walked out with because I had to get to the wedding I was going to and didn't have time for her to keep trying. I had to redo the entire thing before going in public and when I asked for a refund they said they couldn't give one because I should have told them it looked bad...as if she shouldn't see...and perhaps I would have had time for that if they were running remotely on time. Save yourself the frustration and angst go to Dry Bar. Update following the below response...The service was last week in fact, not sure what you mean 2 weeks later. I visited the Danbury location and booked a gloss + trim + and blowout with Rachel Cora after reading her reviews. I wasn't sure if my ends needed a gloss (toner) due to the brass color I had previously, or if I needed to lighten it up. We ended up lifting the color just a bit so it would match the rest of my head, and the results came out perfect. Being from Miami, I was really scared to try somewhere new, but the service was amazing. Rachel was so accommodating, and even trimmed by hair dry since I normally wear my hair curly. And also, I was going through CANCER treatments at the time and you had me under that hot thing , whatever it's called , for 45 mins . I am writing this review after several attempts at contacting the salon manager or owner with no response. Key Points : 1. This salon has a surcharge for curly (read: ethnic) hair that they fail to disclose on their website or at booking 2. The staff display a lack of professionalism and customer service 3. Their work product is terrible and denotes a lack of training and skill 4. The cosmetology license on display for "Adrianna Solis" expired on 7/31/21 - I was serviced at the salon on 8/7/2021. I made an appointment at this salon for a wedding I was attending. I booked the standard blow out, which I have done many times at more competent establishments with amazing results. As soon as I entered the salon, the stylist raked her hands through my hair and announced that because I had "very curly" hair I would have to pay extra. When I ask if this was on the website at booking she said yes and I took her word for it (after checking again it is not.) I accepted the surcharge because I needed to have my hair done and improperly assumed that at least they would do a good job ( spoiler: they did not.) After approximately 30 minutes I was shown the finished product. I could only describe my hair as a cross between jimmy neutron and a rat's nest. I was told that the only way to fix it was to use a flat iron (which is not a blow out.) The stylist then proceeded to make tight ringlets in my hair with the miniature flat iron. I was running out of time and needed to go. The stylist loudly yelled that I wasn't going to get out of paying and that I needed to pay. I asked to speak to the manager and was told she wasn't there. I asked the manager's name and they didn't tell me. I asked for a business card and they said they were out. I paid and snapped the attached photo of the cosmetology license as I was leaving - which was expired. I had to go home and do my own hair in tears. As a person of color, I felt humiliated throughout my visit to this salon. If they had advertised this surcharge I would have never chosen to give my money to this salon. On top of that I felt like they insinuated that I came to the salon with the intention of not paying - which was absolutely not the case. I doubt that I will get a considerate or courteous response to this review. There is no email on the site or this page and I tried calling the salon at several points today. I am writing this review as a warning and in hopes that the employees at Pink Soda learn to do better by their clientele. Stamford is my hometown and I am so embarrassed to have had this experience here. Update: Thank you for your prompt response. I called several times yesterday and today and I was unable to speak with anyone directly. If you would prefer I leave a voicemail I would be happy to do so. I had an appointment to have my hair styled. I needed to cancel, so I called the number provided on the website, and after a brief recorded message directing me to the company's website, I selected to stay on the line to speak to a representative. The phone rang and rang. No one picked up and there was no answering machine to leave a voicemail. I ultimately ended up looking online for an email address and emailing the salon with my cancellation. I was charged a 50% cancellation fee because they received my email within 24 hours of the appointment. However, I had been trying to call since the day before and couldn't get through. This was not the first time I had issues getting through on their phone (the same thing has happened a few times before), but this was the first time it was for a cancellation. Knowing that I had been trying to call, they should not have charged me the 50% fee. They also need to fix their phone systems. Fortunately, there are lots of other blow dry bars in Stamford, I won't be returning to Pink Soda. EDIT to address business's response below: The response is a complete lie. Yes, there is an automated service when you call the phone number (203 491 4422), and the automated answer that you reference in your response tells you to stay on the line if you want to speak to a representative at the call center. I chose to speak to someone so that I could cancel my appointment and no one picked up. There was also no voicemail. Second, you did not check your logs for my phone calls because I never gave you the phone number I called from so that's impossible - another lie. Third, I emailed you AHEAD of my appointment letting you know I had been trying to get through on the phone and couldn't. I did NOT wait until I saw the charge to email you. i emailed you on Friday morning (before my appt), and I saw the charge today (Tuesday - 4 days later). Truly abysmal customer service. Very unhappy. I came today at 12 PM for a half-updo for a wedding - it is not even 2 PM and my hair has completely fallen out and down, this was an enormous waste of money. A $65 half-up-do says 50 minutes on the website and my girl had me finished in 20 minutes - and when I looked at that time, my curls had fallen already. I asked her to please redo them and put a lot of hairspray in (she was aware my event was at 4 PM and I needed everything to last at least that long.) When I was finished she didn't even show me the back with a mirror - just said "You can see what you need to, right?" Absolutely careless. Go anywhere else. I had a very bad and scary experience at this salon. It wasn't that I received a bad service it was the way I was treated afterwards when I politely expressed that the results were not what I was hoping for. I decided to file a complaint with the BBB and am deciding now to share this because the manager even says that I came in for a basic highlight service but it's not true. I have included screenshots of the first convo I had online with the salon where you can see I never asked for basic highlight service. Apparently after I left a review here the manager looked at my review history and saw that I reviewed a salon last year. I had visited that salon late 2017 and left the review maybe a year later after I had my hair done beautifully by someone else.. Pink Soda says they contacted that salon though.. That was very scary. They claimed that I deleted it so that it didn't look bad and so that I could receive expensive services at no cost. Truthfully I deleted it because the stylist no longer works there and didn't believe the review should follow them along anymore. Additionally, my hair did not look bad- it just wasn't what I hoped for. In this case with pink soda- my hair actually looked horrible. As a frequent yelp user- this is something I always do. However, in this case, it wasn't Gabby the stylist, who was the issue. It was the salon. Gabbys sister (Joann S.) also told me she felt the customer service was "less than satisfactory". I should have taken that comment more seriously. I would highly recommend that if you're reading this review- DO NOT GO TO THIS SALON. At any salon you can get bad results because we are all human and humans make mistakes but the way I was treated afterwards was disgusting. I also recommend that you scroll down and just read the reviews that aren't recommended by yelp- after being in the salon I 100% believe the reviews. We chose to go to Pink Soda's Stamford location instead of having them come to us at the hotel. I think they overestimated their ability to balance a 9-person wedding party with other Saturday morning clients. One of my bridesmaids had to wait 40 minutes to have her makeup finished and was not treated kindly by her stylist. The staff was very flustered by the checkout process as well. Even prior to the day-of, communications with the salon were not consistent and clear. At least the hair and makeup looked good in pictures! (So, the quality did not match the experience) I will say, Gabby (the stylist who works with brides) was a total treasure to work with and I just adored her. So at that time, it seemed better WITH WET HAIR. When you make an appointment to get your hair done you want to feel relaxed, but I was given a harsh attitude the second I stepped into the salon. Regardless if there was a miscommunication on what specifically was supposed to be done with my hair -- you should not take it out on the client. I was the first to even arrive early and I felt very uncomfortable... and the light bulbs they put you underneath to release heat on your hair seemed very high. My left shoulder was getting burned from the heat. Even when my hair was being washed, I felt my hair being pulled and the worst is when you feel the girls talking behind your back. I had an amazing experience from beginning to end. I walked through the door and running on 3 hours of sleep on a sunday from staying out late Saturday night .. this place was heaven. I had a blowout here today. I gave very little direction (loose curls, please), and it turned out awful: The stylist parted my hair in a very ugly way and gave me crunchy curls. I thought maybe it would look better when I got home or when the hairspray dried, but it didn't and I ended up fixing it myself. I was really upset about it and regretted the money spent immediately. The stylists arrived 1 hour late the morning of my wedding. 3. I was promised that all 4 stylists did makeup and hair and that was a lie. Only 1 out of the 3 stylists did hair. 4. I did not get a "designated bridal expert pro" as mentioned in their contract. The hair stylist was good but because she was the only one that did hair, and we were behind schedule, I felt that my hair was a rushed job. Came out okay, but I had to settle because we were behind schedule. No bride should be put in a position to "settle" for her hair. 5. I paid for airbrush service for my makeup. The morning of my wedding their airbrush tool wasn't working and they had to apply regular makeup. After the wedding Pink Soda reimbursed me $20. That was an insult. There is a reason why a bride requests airbrush versus regular makeup, and even though that's what I ordered, I did not get the airbrush experience. 6. No time for photos after all the services were completed. The 1 hour that the crew was late took up all of our "wiggle room" time to take pictures and enjoy the moment. Instead it was high-stress to get up and out of the room after services were completed. 7. Forced gratuity. I was obligated to give a 20% cash tip the morning of my wedding. 8. Late to church ceremony and all consecutive events due to their 1 hour tardiness. The list goes on but these were the points that I brought up with the Salon. They took a long time to respond to my calls/emails and at the end I received an apology and a $20 refund. This review will remain up until the Salon justifies all the aggravation that I had to put up with for my wedding. I will never book here again. Canceling the morning of prom that was booked weeks ago?! Not cool. Thank goodness our normal salon was able to accommodate her. The receptionist was only defensive that their only makeup artist was in the hospital which I feel very badly about. That really wasn't the point. How do you not have a backup artist? Clearly, this is not somewhere you would want to rely on for a big event. read more
