They had so many patients with not enough staff delayed appointments which resulted to a "rush" job. I was presented with tx plans that was unnecessary, and from what I can remember I paid hefty out of pocket costs. They gave me a document that stated " if my insurance rejects billing that I'm liable to pay for all of my dental costs" lol Overall this business is for profit. Think twice before coming here. Just wanted to say, I first came to this place in 2021 for a teeth cleaning. I was recommended this laser type cleaning, told a lot of things about how bad my gums were, you name it. I had proceeded with it initially, it was meant to be a multi-series of appointments, but my next one got cancelled and I had a gut feeling, so I never pursued setting it back up. I went to a dentist a few years later, magically none of the issues I had were what was presented by hygienist in 2021. I started seeing a new dentist again this year and again, I was reminded how all of these supposedly severe issues I had in 2021 weren't a thing. I thought it was just important to echo what you're seeing in the other reviews here. It feels like this place is just trying to rack up money rather than actually provide care. There's better places just in driving distance. It'd be even better to pay out of pocket somewhere else than whatever might happen to your pocketbook here. read more

Short summary: unorganized, rushed, no time management, scheduling issues, not efficient, extra charges, LONG periods of waiting I recently had to change dentists because my dentist of 25 years retired. I became a pt here at Pinole modern under Dr. Teang 7/30/25 and now ending 11/19/25 7/30/25 I scheduled for a new pt appointment and cleaning. Summary of visit: I was there FOR 2 HOURS, had 30mins of interaction with staff, first 10 minutes I got scanned, last 15 minutes I got my gum death measured, dentist check up, dentist stated I'm past regular gingivitis and got recommended a gingival scaling (said to take 45mins-1hr), then stated I needed to come in another time to get my cleaning done 7/31/25 Scheduled a cleaning/scaling Summary of visit: I got my scaling done and was out the door in 25-30mins. It was my first time getting a scaling/laser. Mind you I haven't had dental work done in more than a year... (background: I used to get 3-4 general cleanings a year 45+ mins each) So 25-30 mins does not seem to be appropriate. Also got charged $43 for oral hygiene instructions that is not covered by Delta Dental PPO, it cost more than the fluoride (also not covered). 11/19 Scheduled a general cleaning Summary of visit: I was there for 45 mins. I came in and there was a scheduling issue. Front desk told me that I can get a check up. I got to the back and sat there for 20 mins. Hygienist saw me on chair then took my blood pressure and stated to come back later to measure my gum depth. After 10 minutes Dr. Teang came in and started telling me that it's too soon to come in for a cleaning. Then we had a relaxed conversation about what the different cleaning are and the expectations/ lengths of procedure. He stated that a general cleaning for healthy gums are 10-15 minutes max. I mentioned to him about my scaling done in July 2025 there at Pinole modern, and ask him what the typical length was and he said 45mins -1hr. I then told him about the 25 min length of my procedure. Then Dr. Teang asked if I wanted a cleaning and I said yes because that was the purpose of my visit today. It was around 4:36pm when he asked me this question. Then one of the front desk staff (red hair) came to see me at 4:40pm and states that they will give me a cleaning. I saw the time and asked her how long the cleaning would be. She said "it's really fast, like 10-15 mins." I then told her that I changed my mind and that I don't want a cleaning anymore. Dr. Teang then comes back into the room and was asking why I didn't want the cleaning and I said that the cleaning would be too fast. I stated that my cleaning are usually around 35+ minutes. Dr. Teang then interrupted me and said that's not how they do it there and that a general cleaning for health gums are 10-15 minutes. He didn't even measure my gums yet or examined my mouth. I refused the cleaning, then Dr. Teang left the room. The same front desk lady then tells me that I can go and started taking off my apron, but then I told her that I didn't get my check up, I never had my mouth exam or my gums measured. She then apologized and left. I was left sitting there for 5 minutes. I felt rushed and like a bother, I could feel the tension each time they left my room. So I took off my apron, made my way to the front desk, but on the way I saw the Dr. Teang and the same front desk staff chit chatting. Another staff member sees me and I ask to have my appointment canceled calmly. I walk to the front and the same front desk staff apologizes to me and states that she didn't know the background of the conversation before she made her statement. I accepted the apology and didn't make a big deal of it. The first 2 visits I already knew that this office might not be a good match for me due to scheduling and efficiency. But this last visit felt very rushed. I get they were trying to appease me by giving me a last minute rushed cleaning, but the attitude and rush was not it for me. read more

I had fillings done and Dr. Teang left the cords in my gums without letting me know. my gums were so swollen and in so much pain. I do suffer from early stage of gum disease so I thought it was my gums until I saw the cords slipping out. I stupidly went back to have my deep cleaning where I was told they'd remove all the cords by the Hygenist Reza. I left the country two days after and started experiencing inflamed gums and heavy bleeding. The hygenist had failed to remove the cords as instructed which is crazy as it was a deep cleaning. And now I'm out of the country unable to get help! I called to escalate the situation and never got a call back. This place is awful. read more

Very poor service. a few of the hygienists used to be polite especially the women but they left. Rubab is a good hygienist. One of the male hygienists was combative especially the owner Dr. Teang. While the cleaning was fine by the hygienist, this Dr. had a trantrum. Why? It seems fishy and he appears mentally unstable. I had cleaning asking for removal of plaque and the Dr. Teang started becoming combative & argumentative on why am I asking for this detailed cleaning Wow, he appears very defensive. I have a feeling like this place has taken a hit on turnover with hygienists and a few of the Doctors left as well or inflating severity of issues. Don't waste your time is right. I don't like leaving negative reviews. I figure if you don't have anything nice to say, just leave it alone and don't ever go back. Although, my experience today compels me to leave my experience. All be it not so favorable. My appointment with Pinole Modern Dentistry was at 11 am for a routine cleaning, and I'm thinking in and out. I have no teeth discomfort or pain since my last cleaning 6 months ago and I take good care of my teeth. I got there early at 10:45 am and got checked in and I'm thinking I'm all set to be called in at my scheduled 11 am time. At 11:20, when I'm actually called and taking back to the examining room and about 11:45 when the dental assistant comes in to actually polish my teeth and once she finishes says the doctor will be in shortly to examine and clean my teeth. At about 12:15 the doctor comes in, cleans my teeth, comments that they look good and suggests I get a mouth guard to protect against nighttime grinding. No biggie. It takes him about 10-15 minutes to clean my teeth and afterwards says, "the hygienist will be in to finish up". He also thanks me for my patience because mid week is usually pretty busy. Sounds reasonable the small lobby was full when I was called back and there were a couple of parents with kids. After the doctor left I sat there reclined for 30 minutes waiting for the hygienist to come finish up at 12:45 pm I getting a little concerned and slightly annoyed that it's taking so long to finish up my routine cleaning, because we closing in on two hours. So, I take off the googles, unclip the blue paper bib and go to the front desk, I'm surprised as I walk to the front counter to see all they other examining rooms are empty and that the hygienist have all gone to lunch. The respectful young woman handling the front desk at the time went to get the doctor who had cleaned my teeth and he apologized that I had somehow been overlooked and all the hygienist had left the office for lunch. He offered to fluoride my teeth, which I said no to. At this point it's 12:50pm, a full two hours since I had checked in and I and the receptionist asked me if I wanted to schedule my 6 month follow up that I was never coming back again. I was so disappointed more so than angry and devalued as a patient. I don't know if this will sway anyone's opinion or not but I do hope it offers assistance in deciding your dental provide because my time and your time is valuable. read more

Their hygienist 'measured' my gums so fast she was reading numbers while the measuring instrument was several inches from my gums. It is easy to go fast when you're pulling numbers out of your ass. She read off mostly 4, 5, and 6. My other, honest dentist has consistently measured all but one tooth under 4. They wanted to charge me for an expensive deep cleaning and refused to give me a regular cleaning. The dentist explained, "If a doctor diagnoses you with an appendicitis, he is not going to just give you aspirin." The better analogy would be, "If I truly only have a headache and I ask you for an aspirin, I am not going to let you operate on my brain. The technician taking full mouth x-rays took three exposures of the same two teeth. I did not move myself or the 'film' in the least because I don't want unnecessary exposure. She went to take a fourth exposure and I told her to move on. Never in my life have I ever had a technician screw up the positioning more than a single time. read more

Good customer service, highly skilled dentists- Dr. Teang and Dr. Chung and dental hygiene- Rubab. They have been treating my tooth very nicely. They have been making me fell like home. I switched dental offices and went to get examined, come to find out Pinole Modern Dentistry basically lied to me about the depths of my gum pockets, telling me I was border-lining on Periodontal disease. My office I have now said I did NOT need a deep cleaning, just a regular one that's fully covered by my insurance. And the depths of my gum pockets were completely different at this new office. On December 22, 2025, I had a scheduled appointment at this dental facility for a routine dental exam and regular cleaning, which was confirmed by staff upon check-in. I proceeded with the examination, including X-rays and initial assessments. However, once the dentist entered the treatment room, I was informed that only the exam would be performed and that the scheduled regular cleaning would not take place. The stated reason was that the office was "too busy" at that time. I was further told that a regular cleaning could not be performed because, according to their assessment, I allegedly needed a periodontal cleaning. I explicitly informed the provider that I was due for a standard cleaning, not periodontal treatment. This request was denied. For context, in March 2025, this same facility performed what they described as periodontal work that took less than five minutes and charged me $400 out of pocket, which they claimed was a "discounted" rate. At that time, I was also told that additional periodontal work was necessary. Notably, the periodontal measurements taken by this facility differed materially from measurements taken one month earlier by another licensed dentist, raising serious concerns regarding consistency and accuracy. As a patient, I understand that providers may recommend additional treatment; however, I also have the right to informed consent and the right to decline services. This practice repeatedly insists on unnecessary procedures and appears to use periodontal diagnoses to increase revenue rather than to provide patient-centered care. This conduct reflects a pattern of pressure-based upselling, inconsistent clinical assessments, and denial of scheduled services without proper justification. This practice attempts to take advantage of patients financially, which is both unethical and unacceptable. I am submitting this complaint to document my experience and to caution others. Like other 1-star reviews here, I can confirm that this place is scamming elderly patients into paying more than necessary. A few years ago, they overcharged my grandmother, leaving her with a huge bill. Since then, I've stepped in to review services moving forward. To keep it brief, there's a significant discrepancy between what insurance says a patient owes and what Pinole Dental charges, often hidden under "fees." Be sure to review every detail of your bill. I thought Dentists take an oath to do no intentional harm to their patients and also that prevention is curable to cure disease in addition to commitment to patient care, ethics and professionalism. I am so glad that i am not the only one that feels this way. I was a patient of theirs for 4 years. I finally cut the cord. Every time I went it was 5+ hours in the chair, was over billed many times, could never speak to anyone about it until I went in and sat in their waiting room refusing to leave until I spoke to the office manager Sylvia. They refused to give me my medical records and told me to go online and download them. What I wanted were my exam notes and xrays. We are going on 2 years of asking now. They also do not act on anything that they find going on in your mouth until you say something. It's like they wait on what could be a $300 fix for it to become emergent and you need a root cannal and a crown so they can make more money off of you. They tell almost every patient that they cannot have a simple cleaning and that they need a deep cleaning costing 1K+. The best one is when I was told that my next visit was going to cost one amount and on the day of the visit it when I checked in they asked me to pay triple the amount saying that my insurance did not approve some of the billing codes. According to Delta Dental, PMD never answered their request for documentation and additional information. I was left with paying the entire cost of the procedure. I eventually had to file a complaint with the state and received a refund from Delta Dental. I have had several negative experiences with this office. 1. The amount they charge is subject to a conversation every time I go. Example: estimate for oral surgery: $2500. After consulting with my insurance company, they were willing to do it for $700. According to the insurance company, it should have been covered 100%. This has been the case for every single procedure I have had. If you decide to use this practice, I highly recommend checking your insurance policy to see what is covered and what isn't before every appointment. 2. Dr. Antono Teang is the owner of the practice. His dental skills are sub par. I once was in the chair for 6 hours for a simple crown. While cleaning it up at the end of the appointment he broke it and the entire crown had to be replaced. I was told before they started that it was covered by my insurance. After the 6 hours, I got a bill for $2500. In addition he is arrogant, condescending and rude to his patients as well as his staff. When I requested that he consult with the hygienist about the dosage of nitrous (she was familiar with me from cleanings) he referred to her as a"mere hygienist who doesn't know what she is doing, while I am your doctor). He gave me so much attitude, insisting on continuing with the procedure, in spite of the fact that I did not have enough anesthetic that I insisted upon leaving because I did not feel safe. He wouldn't let me reschedule with another dentist. 3. The hygienist Rubab is a kind, knowledgeable and intelligent bright spot in this otherwise entirely dismal and dishonest practice. I really hope that she is adequately rewarded for this with bonuses and salary. If there was any way to leave a tip I would have been happy to leave a big one. I do doubt, that with Dr. Teang as her boss, she would have seen any of it. My recommendation is that if you feel you need to go to this dentist, for convenience, or for insurance reasons that you keep looking. Even if you have to drive farther, or pay more, it will be worth it to not deal with Dr. Teang and his dishonest, unkind and shady business practices. read more

She was told that she had all kinds of dental issues and that she needed a crown replacement, that her insurance wouldn't cover the costs, and that she needed to pay $10-12k out of pocket! Concerned about the professionalism of a low-rated dental office, my brother and I decided to send her to a higher rated dentist. This place has continually served me with the best dental service and experience I've had. No one prefers dental visits... we're hungry, it's expensive, it's loud, overly stimulating and frankly uncomfortable. However the dental assistants and rest of staff here are very polite and professional making for a pleasant experience. So that being said, get your insurance right and understand what benefits you are paying for then all should be a breeze after e-check in. Dr. Elizzani has a delicate hand, good energy and is a stellar professional. The X-ray process is a bit lengthy but very thorough, making me feel more confident in the assessment/diagnosis. Not to mention they have great tech here making X-rays efficient and more comfortable!! My hygienist, Miss Reza did a terrific job with my cleaning and has great hands too! I would rate 0 stars if I could but I had to select a star to even write this review. . . Absolutely not! I do NOT recommend this business. The front desk is ridiculously rude. These people are not your friends. They do NOT care about your dental health. They care about your money and that is it. Period. Stay away from here. Far away. The dentist is a liar and not a people person. He will say what you want to hear to your face and then change what he said later and say that was not what he said. I recommend you video tape your visit. It sounds outlandish but it's probably best so you can have proof. I was referred to a different office to have a root canal done. The dentist at Pinole Modern Dentistry didn't state if a post space was needed. So we had to wait almost an hour for Pinole modern dentistry to get back to us and let us know before the other dentist could start the root canal. This was a yes or no question the dentist at Pinole could have addressed but it took an hour of waiting around for his response. Once we finally called Pinole Modern we got two answers. They told me I didn't need a post and told him that I did. These people at Pinole Dentistry are ridiculously unorganized rude and clearly hate their job. What a shame. I've been here 3 times and at first I didn't know why this place had low ratings. Sure it's clean and staff are nice enough. However, my last appointment here was horrible. I was scheduled to get my wisdom teeth removed and when I arrived the receptionist said I wasn't on the schedule. I had a printed copy of the scheduled appointment that the very receptionist gave to me when the appointment was first made. The receptionist said they could "squeeze" me in. This made me uncomfortable.. I didn't want to be "squeezed in" for wisdom teeth removal. I was already extremely nervous for this appointment. The dental assistant and surgeon were obviously rushing when they were prepping me. I was hoping for a more comforting experience since I was so nervous. When I woke up from my teeth removal, I felt very rushed to wake up and get out of there. I was a little loopy from the drugs and tried to chat with the dental assistants but they just ignored me and brushed me off. I had to pay $1600 out of pocket because of my insurance, which I was ok with at first. But having to pay this much out of pocket you'd think they'd be courteous and have better service... but this was not the case. Horrible. read more

My dental insurance is so good. The day of visit, my insurance covered over 1,600 dollars and I still paid 300 out of pocket. Before service I was told my insurance did cover the service. Day of, they give me my invoice telling me what my insurance and what I what I owe. It was "clear" but they have something under their sleeve. I don't recommend you going to this dentist. They are straight up out for your money. I had an appointment with this dentist. First I was told that I had a $45 dollar copay which was not true. My Delta PPO plan office told me there is no copay with my plan. Second I was told that I needed a crown and extraction and that was going to cost me $1400 dollars. I could put half on a card or finance it or pay it all. At no point was I told what my insurance would be paying. So after this discussion I thought that I would at least get my teeth cleaned. Well that didn't happen. I was told that they couldn't do anything for me until I gave them $1400 dollars. I didn't feel that was right so I called Delta dental. Well this office never contacted my insurance company. I spoke with Mitchell at Delta Dental and she told me that there was no pretreatment request sent to them for the work that they told me I needed on my teeth. So how was this office able to tell me I needed to pay $1400 dollars for treatment if they hadn't contacted my insurance. I thought that was the price I needed to pay after insurance, but that wasn't the case. Mitchell told me that my plan pays up to $1500 dollars a year So WTF they were trying to get me for $1400 dollars and then get my insurance too. The person that was telling me what I needed to pay her name was Sylvia I guess she was the office manager, or the ripoff fixer. To think I was going to pay for this appointment, but they didn't even give me a teeth cleaning which I knew my insurance would cover, but because I didn't give them $1400 dollars or half they sent me on my way. Mitchell with D/D even told me they should not even have asked for a copay. I my plan has no copay. Then she told me to find another dentist. If i could give negative stars, I would but you have to give 1 star to leave a post. I waited a week to be seen and the day before my appointment i missed 2 calls which i was not able to answer but they didn't leave a message either time. They were calling to cancel my appointment because apparently they called dentist and were told they were not aware of me needing to be seen by endodontist and they could not see me without a referral. I told this person that i was actually referred for not 1 but 2 root canals at which her reply was " well I don't know who to believe " to which i replied maybe the liar was her because i never got a voice message not did i get an email. She proceeded to let me know that i wasn't going to call her a liar and she was canceling my appointment and to seek a different provider. Apparently it's okay for her to call me a liar and when i asked her for her name she hung up on me. I happen to be a couple of doors down from the dentist office so i went in and i asked for the name of the person who i had just spoken to over the phone and had hing up on me, nobody knew who i had spoken to . The lady up front then started whispering with somebody who was on the other side of the wall then she got up and stepped away when she returned I was then given a name of Sylvia Smith who apparently is the Office Manager and she was the person i spoke to. Nobody else ever came out to speak to me. I don't think i even got a real name and if i didn't that's just more proof how poorly the customer service is. I would not recommend this place to anyone because the customer service at this office is very poor and they don't care how they speak of treat possible patients nor do they take accountability for their actions. read more

1st off Dr. Teang and his assistant are great but the office is a mess. I could never get an appointment. I had to have an emergency visit. Dr.Teang asked the office to give me an appointment later that week the office refused. I had sent up payment plan and they have charged my bank account but call and harass me and even sent my account to collection but I have sent them copies of my bank account showing they got payment, when confronted with this they saw the payment but they were not putting it towards my accounts. Again bank statement shows payment and again they call demanding payment. They never did complete treatment. read more
