One of my kids attended a birthday party here on a Saturday afternoon. Very busy time. I dropped her off and came back to pick her up later. Upon picking her up, I had to bring my other two children, one of which was 6. The person at the front said I had to leave them at the front door, they couldn't go inside, which was a bit unnerving because you know the front desk person isn't keeping an eye on my child and the door is left wide open. Anything could happen to a 6 year old. Also, if you haven't been in this place, it is dark and hard to find your child skating around in a huge crowd of people. It's not like a 1 minute pickup, I was in there for probably 10 minutes trying to get my child out of there. I'm not sure why they stamp your hand if it isn't to see who can be skating or picking up skates to skate with. Anyways, if you are picking up a child from a party, don't bring your other children because they will be left outside alone while you go in to find your other one(s). read more

It's a hard time for everyone right now with a lot of people stuck in their homes, so when I saw online that Playland was currently offering discounted/super reasonably priced small private parties for 10 people or less I jumped at the opportunity. It was a great way for me and a couple of friends to be able to skate and enjoy eachothers company and have our nerves at ease because we had all the room to social distance and didn't have to worry about telling strangers to cover their nose with their mask too. I would like to say a special thank you to Wilber, who was the supervisor working our party and not only took all of our ridiculous music requests, but made my two friends whose birthdays are this week have the best night out they've been able to have in a long time. Playland Skate Center is so much fun. Beautiful wooden floor. Great sound system. Diverse crowd. On adult night, there are older people (60s, even 70s), young people, people having their first time on skates, and people who are artists on skates. Every ethnicity and orientation is represented at Skateland. There is no alcohol, no drugs, just good clean fun. The music is great, and they take requests. Now the downside -- one show off guy almost knocked dozens of people over every time I go and the staff in umpire shirts don't seem to do anything about him. This guy zooms by super fast, goes sideways in and out as a show off, and staff needs to make him stop before he hurts someone. Also, on the beginner skate (one song), lots of pro level skaters cheat and almost run down the beginners. Please Skateland, enforce the rules. I suggest creating another adult night as soon as possible for speed skaters so that the rest of us don't have to endure them on the other adult skate night. I would like to see at least one more adult night skate, perhaps one focusing on roller disco music. I would also like to see a real skate DJ here, like they have in Oklahoma City. I'm glad to see the theme nights, Pride Night, Halloween, etc. read more

Definitely a cool place to have some with your family. I haven't been roller skating in quite some time but I still had it in me. I rented the roller blades instead. I couldn't do the old school look. They have these homemade training roller walkers for kids to learn how to skate by themselves. Food is nice place to grab you some junkfood. They have a skate area in the back for children to learn at their own pace or they can skate in the main roller area. They even have a playground for the little ones to play in towards the back area. I will say I wish all that stuff towards the front so it could be easily more accessible but I understand the building has been here for quite some time. Still looks like the 80's inside. Don't worry they play up to date music. They do all the fun party time games, dances, and races. They announce when the party is ready for everyone to go sing happy birthday. Even though Playland is very close to my former place of employment, today was my first time skating here. I chose the 3-6 PM skate time today. I paid a little less than $9. I received a wristband and a pair of rental skates. It has been a very long time, since I last roller skated. Due to this, I may have been the worst skater there. However, I still enjoyed my time at Playland. They did the Hokey Pokey and the Limbo, toward the end of my time there. I did not partake, but I was amused by this, and nostalgic. If you love roller skating, or want to try it out, Playland is a good place to go. read more

I went here last night for the Camp Fire USA skating party. I have been to a few roller skating rinks around town (and other towns) and they usually seem to be dives; dark, dirty, and dreary. Playland was not dreary at all. It has a GIANT rink, larger than any other in the area and it has all kinds of cool colored and neon lights! The piece de resistance is a giant disco ball-esque skate in the middle of the ceiling. See my barely adequate photo of it. Anyway - the kids had a great time skating. Also, when they played games (limbo, hokey pokey and a few others) those skating around the rink edge were not made to stop and sit down. YEAH! My friend and I were in line waiting to by our tickets to get in, we were talking about something that happened at our school (we are 15 & 16) this random woman had step in me and my friends face being extremely rude telling us to be quiet and stop talking. I had felt unsafe and I said to her " pls step away from me and my friend" she kept being really rude so i turned to one of the workers to make a report and I paid for my tickets, 2 minute later the male and female managers approached me and my friend telling us we have to leave and accusing us of causing issues. The male manager stepped in my face being really rude and I felt unsafe again, when we were walking out I had stopped to text my mom and the male manager had put his hands on me pushing me DO NOT GO HERE (me and my friend are African-American)I FELT VERY UNSAFE IN A "FAMILY FRIENDLY ENVIRONMENT"!!!! Adult skate night at Playland is the stuff dreams are made of. What fun it is to relive my youth on the wheels of old school quads! The awesome 70's, 80's, and 90's music blasting. The rink packed with skaters of all levels. It's great for people watching as well as getting out there and joining in. They replaced the old concrete rink with wood and it is awesome! Gone are the potholes on the right side of the rink. Just super slick wood for your wheels to glide on. The only improvement I'd make would be better options at the snack bar. I'm all for old skool, but that could use some modernization. It would also be awesome if there was a bar on adult night, but I can understand that the insurance/codes/TABC laws may make that unrealistic. It's definitely worth the trip back in time to head out. If you are thinking about booking a party, this is not the place you want to do it. First off, they do not have private rooms, for the cost you pay you are assigned one of 8 tables--where other people are having their parties--and people are often standing around or skating around your table, so you have to say "excuse me" and wait just to get up and move. Since it is not a private room, just a public table, you also have to listen to the usual sounds of the skating rink (skaters, DJ, music, etc). When the DJ calls out your birthday child's name, they will do it with about five other names (the other parties going on next to you), so don't count on any special recognition, either. The noise, after we finished eating, was problematic enough that we just took our stuff and left early to open presents at a local park, so we didn't have to shout at each other to be heard. I booked a very special birthday party here (I thought it would be good based on the reviews), but am so disappointed and wish I would have done something else. It got two stars because the wait staff assigned to our table was decent/attentive, and the skating rink itself was smooth. I'd say if you want to do anything besides just skate, pass this one up. read more

I've been going to Playland as long as I can remember! I always have a great time when I go, if nothing else reliving memories from my past life as an aspiring roller disco star. Prices are fair - skate rental included in the price. Upgrade to inlines for an additional fee, but is it worth feeling like you're skating into the 80's?? Doubt it! The large disco ball in the shape of a classic skate should be inspiration enough to choose the right skate ;) There's space for birthday parties, although it's so crowded on the weekends I wouldn't recommend it. That's where my one star was lost - overcrowding. The rink was so crowded, I feared literally running over a small child. But! Overall I love it still, and plan to return on more adult nights. The facility is really nice but they nickel and dime you for everything. The make sure you don't have water bottles or food on you. If your kid needs a walker they charge you $5. If your kids want to play on their play scape it's another $5 per kid, if you decide to switch your skates for blades it's $5. Want water? Better bring sweet sweet money. read more

Floor: 10/10 amazing surface and size Staff: 10/10 everyone is super friendly n even the refs on the floor are skating around having fun and not just in the middle whistling Lighting: 10/10 not too disco like, not too dark Crowd:5/10 there are soooooooo many trainers everywhere. Not that I have an issue with trainers but there is a full area just to start from scratch but people still go out with a 3 year olds first time on skates every into a very crowded floor anyway. Music: 6/10, tbh I don't remember any music, it was on, just so low I could never really hear it. Other comments: races lasted forever, there's no gimmicks like couples/backwards/change directions/or anything at all, you are just rolling in a quiet, yet comfortable and enjoyable circle all night. I will still be returning every week as its shortcomings are far outweighed by how awesome the rest of my experience was. read more

This place is great! So much fun and friendly staff EXCEPT for the girl manager (Maddy). She was extremly rude and arrogant. Unlike the rest of the staff that she is "managing" she is very unhelpful and doesn't know much about roller skates. This was our first time here and we had a few questions, and she wasn't very happy with having to answer us. When we asked about which roller skates were better for a 5 year old she had NO CLUE and was rude. They should have someone else as manager, anybody else there would be great, they are nice, helpful and friendly. read more

I started going to Playland Skating rink when I was around 13 yrs. old back in 1981 when David was the owner. It was the very well known hip place. I went every Thursday, Friday and Sunday. I absolutely LOVED this place. It looks so beautiful now as it did back then. I really loved the BIG silver roller skate hanging in the middle of the rink. When I was in 8th grade, my friends and I RULED the roller rink. I mean we OWNED it. Every weekend we'd go to skate, fast, slow, backwards, limbo, hokey pokey, and play Ms Pacman and eat junk food and listen to the devil's music and slow skate and gossip about who was slow skating with who and cuss and pass notes and go steady and break up all in the span of 3 hours. Course, our moms dropped us off and picked us up, but for awhile we felt independent, free, adult. Going to Playland as a real adult is NOTHING LIKE THAT. Apparently skating is one of those "use it or lose it" skills. Those of you who know me know I can't got to a theme party without a costume. So, yeah, I looked good. I skated BAD. I rocked the short shorts and knee high unicorn socks and had a blast dancing around in my skates ....on the carpet. I even got to do the Flame Thrower to "Stroke Me". DJ Dolomike's tunes were rockin! Then I hit the rink and looked like an octagenarian on ice....or a newborn giraffe....or a newborn giraffe on ice. All legs and arms akimbo. And then....then when I'd taken a few turns around and was starting to get my glide on, feeling confident, I of course wiped out. RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE SNACK AREA ANDTHE CROWD. And lemme tell ya, getting up with wheels on your feet ain't graceful either. Apparently my costume shoulda been one of those Sumo outfits. As my friendcoughjackncough said to me that nite, "At our age, if we fall here, we hurt FOR LIFE." Thankfully I just ended up with a knee raspberry that a cheap hooker would be proud of. I spent the rest of the evening eating pizza and cake and drinking boxed wine (no glass please!) and chatting and admiring all the real skaters. Oh, and I did get to slow skate with MY man...well, if you call him standing still and me rolling around him on the carpet slow skating. This really was a fun nite...still great to go with friends, eat junk, listen to fun music, play air hockey, and gossip but I'll leave the skating to the Superfreaks from now on. read more

Playland adult skate night, aka... *****The Saga of Roller Viking***** Dudes, skating is not really my thing, although, as far as I can tell, this is the most badass place in town for skating to catchy tunes such as Xanadu, Unbelievable, and the Mortal Kombat soundtrack. But for me, eminent armchair psychologist and social observer, the best thing about Playland (he he, that sounds creepy) is the zany cast of characters, the most amazing of whom is a man I call "Roller Viking". Roughly, Roller Viking is a gargantuan leviathan on wheels, his body sculpted from approximately 350 pounds of glistening Norwegian man-flesh, his calves the size of oak trees, his face gracefully framed by a flowing blonde under-skullet. (Under-skullet: A mullet that is shaved underneath. Shaving creates an air pressure differential--mathematically described by Bernoulli's Equation--that lifts the mullet dramatically upward when the bearer travels at high rate of speed. A flowing under-skullet is visually devastating to opponents and onlookers alike.) Now for a dude that could plow through a bull elephant, a concrete wall, and every other Playland skater combined, Roller Viking is amazingly fast, precise, and GRACEFUL. If you can imagine a Scandinavian jet-powered bulldozer that can pirouette on a dime, then you are almost close to imaging the sheer primal force of Roller Viking. At various intervals, Roller Viking would mysteriously disappear from the arena. This was to be explained, I imagine, by his need to periodically deadlift some cars, practice his swordsmanship, or eat a wild boar. His inevitable reappearance was always met with giddy excitement: "Oh shit, he's back..." Altogether, I should say that while I have no desire to spend more than a few hours per year in the roller rena, a trip to Playland has given me an invaluable heuristic for approaching life. When it's late and I'm tired, but I still need to hit the gym... When my brain cannot detangle some abstruse philosophical paradox... When I have to kill a Rhinoceros by punching it repeatedly... ...I take a deep breath, I clear my thoughts, and I imagine the austere image of Roller Viking...And in my heart, he gives me the strength to prevail. read more

It was probably the most memorable of my childhood gifts. That summer I would wake up at 6am and patiently wait for the sun to rise so I could strap on my white and blue skates laced with Smurfs and topped with blue poms. Mike L. recently celebrated his 40th birthday and rented out Playland Skating Center. Wow did I forget how amazing and free it feels to roller skate! We had a blast making laps around Playland's large skating rink and getting in touch with our inner 12 year old sense of adventure. You can bring in your own food, adult beverages (it is BYOB on Tuesdays only) and they have ample tables to set up your spread. They also rent lockers to store your valuables. The staff was great and quickly whipped out our size skates. Although I wasn't graceful enough to be a "dancing queen" I did have the time of my life! Beloved readers, I have discovered a magical secret that I am willing to share with you. There is, in fact, a time machine right here in Austin Texas. It is known as Playland. Tuesday night at Playland, if you want to get specific about it. Now, maybe you didn't grow up here (I won't hold it against you). The important part of this secret is that you didn't have to. Because wherever you grew up, there was a skating rink, and somewhere around the 11 year old mark, you started skating there on Friday nights with your friends. Mom would drop you off, and you would strap on your skates and go 'round and 'round to New Kids on the Block, and Weird Al, Ton Loc, and of course, Poison. And it was awesome. At some point, you got too cool for this ritual, and you moved on to bigger and better things, like smoking in parking lots and piercing your face or whatever. But now you're in your 30's, and sometimes you long for the simplicity of that skating rink, with it's cheesy music and funky smells. Well, the good news is-- you can go back. And it's even more fun now that you're old and jaded. Also, there is rollerderby there, and if you don't like tough-as-nails chicks in short skirts and skates, well, I don't know what's wrong with you. read more

Yeah so this is the place to bust your ass. And Mike is the guy to see if you are really good at busting your ass. After a year of weekly practice I was actually dancing on my skates thanks to Mike. I like that they have an adult night so that I didn't end up maiming any little kids while my skates and miscellaneous objects as well as body parts were flying all around during the relearning process. (I was a little bad ass when I was a kid on those skates but years off of them sent me straight to the floor over and over.) On adult night people are super friendly and you can have a lot of fun whirling away to old and new music. And OMG is it great exercise, especially if you are constantly picking yourself up off the floor! As soon as I entered this place last night for Tuesday night Adult skate night, it brought back memories of childhood that I never wanted to forget. Memories of roller dancing with the lights low to Thriller and always wanted to backwards skate with that boy that I had a crush on who was obviously too old for me at the time. It's almost as if all my childhood rollerskating dreams came true last night for me. I STILL got to roller-dance to Thriller with the lights low. I STILL got to hang out with my friends and pretend we were in a roller gang, and I STILL got to skate as if nobody was watching and I never fell down once! (although I think I may have heard some other woman's tailbone breaking - yeeeeks) On top of all of the shenanigans our own group brought to the rink, it was free beer night AND Halloween costume night! Skating around a rink with normal people is just ok, but when you're skating around the rink with pirates and vikings and zombies and the entire cast of The Wizard of Oz, it brought the experience to a whole new level. New experiences: I finally got to skate backwards with a boy (my boyfriend - NOT the extremely grown man dressed up as a pirate who apparently frequents the rink and asks random girls if he can backwards skate with them), and I got to drink a beer while skating (in the refreshment area). Oh, and it was a damn good workout, something that I remember came so effortlessly to me as a child. Boo... getting older sucks. My legs are sore (from skating my ass off), my abs are sore (from laughing my ass off) and my rediscovery of the love I have for rollerskating will be around forever. Wow... What a crazy ass place. Went here for a birthday party tonight (Tuesday night adult only skate) and was absolutely amazed by the quality of the people watching. I've lived in Austin for years and this place puts everywhere else to shame. If you never had the chance to go skating back in the 80s, you can live the moment by coming to visit Skateland. It looks just like the 80s places did - exactly. In fact, if someone told me they had invented a time machine and it took me here, I'd really think we were back in the 80s. Almost everyone is wearing either 80s attire or some sort of costume. Most people are roller skating, but rollerblades are available as well. Quite a few of the off duty roller-girls were honing their skills, along with a wide variety of other people including the "gay train" (5+ guys who skate right behind each other clapping to certain songs), several female imposters (and not very good either), some cute girls (complete with hair up and long socks/short shorts), a few creepy old guys who probably aren't allowed here when the kids are around, and your everyday normal office co-workers who are as surprised to see you here as you are them. The cool thing is that everyone just got along and seemed to really enjoy skating, which is quite the workout as well. Everyone was dripping sweat and breathing hard... Interesting place if you like to go round and round in circles all night, or just hang and watch the people. Unfortunately, and likely due to lawsuits, no beer or drinks (some people were tailgating in the parking lot, really). $7.50 cover includes entry and skates, rollerblades are extra. read more

Playland Skate is long hailed as the best rink in Austin. They have an adult night some night of the week which is supposedly cool. I used to come here for Roller Derby, back when it was $5 and you got free Lone Star. Don't be doing that math in your head. It was a long-time ago. And yes, my profile picture is recent. One time, they had a costume contest during derby and my friend and I got second place as Elvis and Pricilla Presley. The priest and the Catholic school girl won (how trite is that?). Anyway, this place is pretty good. I don't know why it has the reputation of having a good floor. I thought this place had wooden floors, but it seems like it was concrete. At least it was mostly smooth except I seemed to keep finding all the spots that had been repaired poorly and were uneven. Falling on this stuff didn't hurt as bad as at the Austin Roller Rink, and luckily, I have a lot of practice with falling. So, I'm am pretty good at it. I only fell once. My friends will say I fell twice, and this is simply not true. The skates were in pretty newish condition which was nice. I also like that they have some real little kids area near the back with a mini rink and a ball pit. Maybe that is where I can practice first next time. read more

I'm sorry to say that my first experience with Playland was not a very good one. My daughter was invited to a birthday party at Playland. At the party they were serving Pizza, cake and ice cream. Sounds like a lot of fun, however my daughter has a milk allergy and there was nothing on the menu that she could eat. So rather than asking the host to try to find dairy free options for the party, I said that I would bring up something for my daughter to eat that would not send her into anaphylactic shock. Upon arriving is where the problem started. We show up with chicken nuggets just in time for all of the girls to begin eating. When at the door we are told that we cannot enter with outside food. Even after explaining that my daughter has a milk allergy and she is at a party where the food supplied is not dairy free we were told that my daughter had to eat the food away from all of her friends and in the parking lot. Yes, IN THE PARKING LOT!! We pleaded with the person up front only to get stonewalled. We were told that the only option was to go inside and get our daughter and have her eat in the parking lot. So we then ask to speak to a manager. The manager tries to tell us that the employee was mistaken, and that all we had to do was take it out of the bag and then we can bring it in. So I guess they expected us to leave and find another container to put the food in then return to be able to bring it in. Who does that? What makes it even more insulting is that once I entered to say hi to the birthday girl and her mom, we see nothing but Pizza Hut boxes all over the party room. So if you have a medical condition that restricts what you can eat, don't expect Playland Skate to be any type of sympathetic to your condition. I was going to skate there myself with my wife and 3 other kids that night, but we left disappointed and disgusted. The next day I talked to my daughter about the party and skating.....From what she described, there is little to no monitoring on the floor and she was run over by careless skaters several times. There were many skaters that were skating at a high rates of speed, weaving in and out, and causing others to fall. And again nothing was done by the monitor. If I could give no stars I would. I don't think that a company that cannot make an exception for something as simple as food allergy for one child attending a party should get anyone's business. read more

I cannot stress how right these other reviewers are. Tuesday nights are only skaters 18+. This is important, actually, because kids on a skate rink once you're an adult are like a crazy obstacle course where you can't finish without falling down. They will pull you down with them when they accidentally slam into you. Believe it. So, we're adults only. We're pretending we're not adults, skatedancing (look, I made a verb!) to Salt N Pepa, Jackson 5, and Journey. Hold hands even when they dim the lights and call a COUPLESKATE ONLY (the phrase itself gets me psyched). There are some people that are there every single Tuesday I've been. One is totally Richard Simmons but sturdier- he's got the hair, short red polyester shorts with white piping, white knee socks with 3 red stripes at the top, and massive massive calves. There's another guy with the wispiest mullet you've ever seen, and he likes to mold female skaters into his twisting, turning, flipping ballerina-skaters. He will point at you like you're next, so you have to avoid eye contact as he flips said mullet over his shoulder and arabesques. There's a white-haired guy in African garb who glides like his skates are little clouds and makes New Kids seem so FUNKY y'all. Most importantly, there is a guy with a David Hasselhoff haircut who likes to coupleskate with a different newbie female every song, so watch out- he will break your heart. I've seen girls get in tifs over him. All these characters and more, every Tuesday night, 7:00-10:30, for only $7. Write your sociology thesis. Scrape together some money for a documentary on skateculture, because this place is teeming with it! read more

Walking in this place causes significant deja vu for me. I've been here before, in the 90s for my own birthday parties and other friend's birthday parties. I used to live 5 minutes away from here and now I do again. I probably skated here with Johnny Depp's fiance back in the day. Seriously, how can you not love something from your childhood that has stood the test of time!? Especially when you think about how quick Austin is to bulldoze things for a better profit these days! Even though this place is OLD, they have really kept it up. Its next to some Antique Mall place and behind a car dealership. Adult skate night (18+) is every Tuesday from 7-10:30pm. It costs $8 which I think is pretty freaking high. Roller blades are an additional $3. But they gotta stay in business somehow. This is also a great place to rent out if you want to have a party and not have a bunch of little kids around. It is not BYOB during public hours. I seriously suck at skating from the years I was absent from skating, but I'd totally do it again. And I'm happy to have an option to do something different every now and then. read more

Tuesday night adult night at Playland is the bomb-diggety. It really IS a time warp. There are several regulars here that are SERIOUSLY good roller-skaters and are executing all kinds of crazy skating tricks as the rest of us mere mortals struggle our way around the rink. It's worth it to go just to check out these fine skaters in action - and to marvel at their straight-out-of-the-70's outfits. I guess roller skating has kept them fit enough that they still fit in their wardrobes of yore. Warning: it is possible to seriously injure onesself while roller skating...and it's kind of embarassing when you're walking around in a sling and you have to admit to people that you fractured your elbow in a roller skating accident. Found out about Adult Only Skate Night on Tuesdays. Plenty of spaces to park, went in and was amazed of how open and spacious the place is. The floor is easy to skate on, it's wood but not uneven at all. The music is diverse, I like skating to music more in the roller skating era. Something about the melody that makes you want to skate all night. For $8 it was worth it. read more

Last night I went to Playland for the first time for a private party. A group of about 40 people rented the entire place for two hours. We were allowed to bring beer and snacks, and request our own music. The best part was skating with just a handful of people instead of the hordes which swarm on Tuesday nights. They ran a series of special events, too, which they don't do on Tuesday nights, including the Hokey Pokey, Limbo, and other games. All on skates, of course. read more

i've been skating here for almost a year and i call this place my second home. i get excited to go every weekend and it's just a nice vibe to be around. the staff is always super nice and i haven't really had many bad experiences there. sometimes people there can be really stupid, but the staff can't do much about it so it isn't their faults. i've been to many skating rinks in texas and this has been my favorite one so far. i meet lots of people there and normally they're really nice. they are very beginner friendly and i highly recommend for anyone wanting to skate. read more

Having grown up in the 80's and 90's, I spent a good amount of time at my local roller rink (Sparkles in Riverdale, Georgia... gone, but not forgotten). I tried many times to find some sort of adult night that catered to people who a) actually liked to skate and b) wanted to do such with some nostalgia. Everywhere I went, the soundtrack seemed to be picked out by one of the middle school students I taught. Atlanta was failing me. Enter Tuesday nights at Playland in Austin. So far, this place is one of my favorite things about my new home. I buy the monthly pass so I can pop in whenever, and soon enough, I'll get my own skates. Sometimes it gets a bit crowded, but hey, that means they won't be going out of business anytime soon. Last week I got knocked over and have a pretty wicked bruise on my leg as a souvenir, but Oscar was kind enough to get me some ice, and some of the Tuesday night regulars asked if I was ok. Really, two stars is a little harsh - I'd prefer to give 2.5, but it wasn't a three star experience, so two it is. We went to the Tuesday night adult skate after reading all the wonderful reviews. In fact, all the glowing reviews may have set my expectations too high. We had issues with the skates right away. My husband rented roller blades (an extra $3, which is standard for most rinks) that had incredibly worn wheels and immediately tore up his ankles. He switched them out for regular skates. One skate's truck was broken, so he immediately had to exit the rink, get it fixed, and then return. These shenanigans wasted about 15- 20 minutes of time, total. Not a huge deal, but annoying. My skates were great, FWIW. The whole sucky skates wouldn't have bothered me, but the skating experience itself was very "meh." As other reviewers have noted, there are a lot of super experienced skaters. Other reviewers said they saw beginner skaters at adult night, but I saw only a few. If I didn't know how to skate well, I would have left. The skaters are not super tolerant of wobblers. Even if you are decent, you can still get messed up by the show boaters. My husband was knocked down against the railing and could have been seriously injured when one of the super fast skaters tried to wiggle his way between the 10 inches of space between us. This didn't stop that guy either - I saw him take similar and totally unnecessary risks multiple times throughout the night. Music was the nail in the coffin. It was terrible. Other reviewers have mentioned Thriller, Cat Power songs, and other great selections. The best two songs played all night were Get Lucky and Fantastic Voyage. Everything else was club style hip hop and Miley Cyrus. Really, it felt like I was at a club with roller skates, and I was looking for a more nostalgic, authentic skating rink experience. All in all, we were planning on making this a regular thing because I really like to skate, but not anymore. Overall, I found the experience lacking. read more
