Everyone was soooo nice and the food is absolutely amazing!! Made reservation for my mom's bday and was seated right away. You look at the menu and then order everything at the register (inside). They also keep the tab open if you so choose. We ordered the Green Goddess Salad, bread with butter and the three specials. Honestly the third special (melon with chili flakes) was a surprise (I didn't realized I had ordered it when I said one of each special lol no regrets) the best juicy melon I have had in a while. The King Salmon special was perfectly cooked, good amount of fat, not at all dry in the tomato purée sauce. We initially thought the sauce was squash or pumpkin because it doesn't have a strong tomato taste. The pizza special with lamb and chili oil was absolutely amazing. Always order the bread with their house made butter to later dip into any of the other dishes you order. An absolute must. Just tried this place out. Amazing bakery items, pastries, bread in the morning. Everyone working there was cool and helpful: In fact being new there a very nice employee explained that all the food is made fresh from surrounding farmers market. We made a reservation for 6 on that Friday. We arrived, wasn't too busy, there's seating in what I'd call a long outside alley. There was a trio set up playing music till 6:30, very quiet and relaxing. Inside can get very crowded and it's so small hard to move around. One bathroom so there was a line most of the time. To the food!! Started with an order of fresh bread and an order of olives! So good that could have been dinner. We both ordered from the specials board. Wife had King salmon. Came with a small amount of veggies, in a yellow tasty sauce. I had a lamb pizza. It was good, interesting twist on a pizza. You dipped the slices in a chili oil. It was surprisingly goood. The reason why it didn't get 4 stars. I didn't get my pizza till after my wife finished her meal. I had to go ask where it was. I was told it's coming right up. 10 minutes after that I got it. No real apology or reason given , just dropped off the pizza and said enjoy. That kind of ruined the dining experience , us not eating our meals together. read more

First time trying this spot after hearing many good things. It's a very small space where you order before you sit. There is a menu posted outside but also small menus inside to read. The coffee is very good, but you will have to tell the person taking your order how you like your coffee as they will bring it out to you already made. The pricing is a little steep but it does say it is all inclusive and accounts for labor and material costs so tipping isn't required. I'm totally okay with that! My yogurt was very good, and a hefty portion. I didn't finish it all. And I also had a berry danish. You can tell all the bread products are made fresh just by the smell and the taste. I wish I had gotten a bagel instead just to try it. Looking at the sandwich my friend had was very tempting. I will definitely return and try some other dishes, especially the sandwiches. read more

Excellent service with a description of the dish as they serve it, and advice on how to experience it. We loved this tucked away indoor-outdoor restaurant in an alley. I can't believe this is our first time here. We love it! We started with the white fish croquestas and the San Diego Ahi Tuna Crudo. The Crudo is just perfect. The Woodford pizza is excellent. We had the special Nard Corn with homemade lamb sausage... delicious! The Palm Court was also amazing. My daughter enjoyed the Kiss from a Rosso pizza. Stumbled upon this cute courtyard cafe when looking for a place to have dinner. Menu pricing is all inclusive of products and of service, so no tipping required. All products are locally sourced and the service was great. The wine we chose was absolutely delicious, we ended up taking a bottle home with us. Not really quite sure why the dine in pricing was more than double the price to take a bottle home, but maybe I should've asked more questions. Either way, we loved it. We had the white fish croquettes, the salad and a pizza they had on special. I will agree with one of the other reviews I read that the food was a little bit salty. Stopped in for a quick bite while my wife was shopping and I was so happy! Got the hearth bread with salted butter and was blown away. Insanely good and I already want more and will dream about it tonight. Piping hot sourdough bread out of the oven baked to a perfect crust that had nice crispy edges and super soft and chewy on the inside served with plenty of salted butter and although the price at $14 may scare you, it is all inclusive pricing and a nice serving that satisfied my wife (who returned just in time to savor the deliciousness) and I and our desire for a snack. We visited on a Monday night, and the experience was underwhelming. The restaurant itself is very small and gave off the impression of trying to be a fine dining establishment, with elevated prices and small portion sizes, but without the service or atmosphere to match. My date and I were only given one menu to share, which was inconvenient, and the wooden seats were small and extremely uncomfortable. We also had to get up to order our food and drinks at the counter, which made the experience feel more casual than the pricing suggested. Despite this, a tip was already included in the bill, which felt unusual considering we were responsible for ordering ourselves and the staff only came to our table twice -- once to bring our food and once to check if we had any questions. We ordered two drinks (around $17 each), the yellowtail crudo ($28), the wings ($16 during happy hour), and a margarita pizza with added sausage ($28). The crudo was much too fishy for the price, especially as someone who enjoys fish. The wings were only four small pieces and, while they weren't bad, they were not memorable. The pizza tasted good, but the portion was very small and didn't feel worth the price. Overall, the food was decent and had good flavor, but the portions and pricing did not justify the cost. We spent over $100 and left feeling hungry, which was disappointing. If you decide to come here, don't arrive too hungry unless you're prepared to spend quite a bit for a small amount of food. I stumbled across this place by accident the first time and was immediately impressed. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and I grabbed a cold brew and a pretzel to go--both were great. I came back for lunch and had the turkey sandwich along with a Laura Palmer, and everything was excellent. They offer wood-fired pizza, a sourdough bakery, and natural wine, with two distinct experiences. Bakery and café run from 8am-2pm. Dinner service runs 3pm-9pm. Open Thursday through Monday. The entrance alone is worth mentioning. A cool, alley-style walk-up on Palm Street behind Capriccio makes it feel tucked away and special. Inside seating is cozy and limited, so I recommend making a reservation if you want to sit indoors. Otherwise, the outdoor patio has heaters and a great atmosphere. It is counter service, and gratuity is included. Parking is easy with a free public parking lot behind the building and another across the street, which is always a plus downtown. Food wise, everything feels thoughtful and well executed. I started with the market greens, simple, crisp, and tossed in a fresh vinaigrette. You really cannot go wrong with any of the pizzas, but the Emily Alba is my favorite for that perfect sweet and savory balance. The house-made yuzu ranch is a must. You walk into this brick courtyard like you accidentally stepped into the "before" scene of a Netflix food doc. There's a stack of firewood, cute green tables, art on the walls, everything screaming, "You're about to spend too much money but you're going to like it." The pizza? That crust has more air in it than most people's resumes. Perfectly leopard-spotted, chewy, little bit of char like it owes somebody money. You're sitting there pretending to share but you know damn well you're running silent fractions in your head like, "If they take that last slice, our friendship is over." Daytime, they're out here doing bagels, hoagies, and pastry like it's no big deal. Sourdough everything. You don't even feel guilty... because when they say "local farmers" and "seasonal ingredients," somehow your brain hears, "This is medicine." And the wine list? All natural wine, minimal intervention--like the grapes had a more respectful upbringing than you did. You're two glasses in, staring at a wood-fired squash, talking about "terroir" like you didn't microwave ramen three nights last week. Only thing is, they don't even have a phone number. What's not to love? Long line goes quickly plus they have free bread samples while you wait. Food? Fresh, fluffy, full of flavor, very special and made with love. I love the savory Hoagie croissant ( ham/ cheese) and the pesto bread, focaccia and cookies. The bagels are amazing. Also fruit tarts! Highly recommend this delicious bakery/ restaurant. My first experience at Pinyon was for take out brought to me by a friend. I had the everything bagel with lox. It came with lox, cream cheese, cucumbers, red onion, capers, and dill. The flavor combination was delicious. The bagel was heavily covered with the everything bagel seasonings which I loved. The bagel was fresh, not too dense, and not too chewy. This is my favorite restaurant in Ventura!! I've been a fan of Pinyon since they were doing pop-ups, before they even opened in Ojai and I was so happy to hear they'd be opening in Ventura. This is the perfect pizza to me - Neapolitan with a California twist, flavorful dough and perfect toppings. The rest of the food is also delicious, they do a great job highlighting the best, most seasonal ingredients. The service fee is now gone, for everyone who was worried about that. This place is on point. The pizza is good, the appetizer was great, the place was clean, and the chef knows his stuff. I would happily eat here again. I wouldn't hear around six in the afternoon on a Saturday night and order two pizzas and a pimento pepper and cheese appetizer. It was good. It was all really good. The margarita was absolutely wonderfully classic. A good base, a nice red sauce, and good color on the cheese. Honestly, this is the way of margarita should taste. My only criticism is I prefer raw basil on my pizza, but it's kind of a preference thing. The rat ratatouille was an absolute explosion of flavor. The yellow tomato sauce on there was wonderful and the sweet drizzle of sauce that they placed on top absolutely made all of the veggies come together wonderfully. I think my favorite part was while there was a ton of vegetables on this pizza, the pizza did not feel heavy nor was it soggy. So great job chef! The last thing we ate was the pimento peppers and cheese. It was OK. For $16 it's just a piece of cheese that's been baked and a bunch of pimento peppers. Kind of disappointing, and I really think it should've been served with a crouton or something. We ended up using the crust from our pizza to eat the rest of this. Not something that I'd recommend or something I would order again. Another minor criticism is that the crust didn't taste like sourdough. I've been to their other location in Ojai and was greatly impressed by the quality of the crust, this place, not so much. It's still a great pizza, but for someone like me that was expecting a sourdough crust and can actually taste the difference, it just wasn't there. That could be because of fermentation issues, or they changed their recipe or any number of reasons. All I know is, I prefer the place in Ojai over this place because of the crust. All in all, this is a solid pizza place and I will gladly return with friends. read more

Kid friendly but not top of my list for an active toddler/child - nothing for them to really do or space to do it. We tried the everything lox bagel, pretzel with mustard and strawberry cheese pastry. All were tasty but the bagel was the best thing by far! Purchased some day old bread that was not only delicious, but 2 for 1! I sliced 1 of the loaves and popped it into the freezer to pull off for toast later. Great seating outside in the twee courtyard on a beautiful morning can't be beat. Helpful service at the desk. I shall return another day to try out the pizza! Great find after a Saturday morning farmers market run during our visit from Las Vegas. It brought back memories of a Northern California spot from days gone by. The courtyard looked like a perfect place to linger, but we chose to sit inside and enjoy a provolone scone, an everything bagel with scallion cream cheese schmear, a buckwheat chocolate chip cookie, and a classic chocolate chip cookie. My friend and I walked in for coffee and pastries and 1. the coffee wasn't ready and 2. (more egregious) the forced tip added to my total for a cinnamon roll. This cashier pretty much put said pastry in a bag and told me that tip is included do they can pay everyone fairly in the store. Everything you hate about LA right here in Ventura! Takes 40 min to make a mediocre pizza because of their special over fired technique, which is a complete joke. I thought maybe it's just dinner that is extremely slow and bland so I came back for breakfast. Takes the same amount of time to make a bagel because you have to toast it in the over too apparently. Could also be due to the fact the employees have to virtue signal to every customer that they are getting paid a living wage and please don't tip us please don't we're good they say. this is easily one of my favorite restaurants that Ojai location is also spectacular. I really enjoyed trying all of the special seasonal offerings. Everyone who works here is amazing especially Chef Jeremy. He is very thoughtful and also very knowledgeable about his wine recommendations. The cheesecake with Feig Campo was really yummy. The black pearl pizza with octopus was super interesting and I'm glad we tried it. The special of rockfish with garlic chips was so delicious. We could've eaten 12 more. There's a 20% fee automatically added to every order. This is something that's really common in LA... not Ventura. I asked what the fee was for and the barista let me know it was to help pay for their high wages, as they start the staff at $25/hr. That's great, but I don't want to pay for someone else's business expenses. A scone and latte = $12 + another 20% plus an optional tip. It's a cute shop but I don't want to support these additional fees on top of pricey drinks and food. Decided not to order simply because of this fee. read more

Re the 20% mandatory tip: I split my time between Ventura and San Francisco--where no tip restaurants are very common because the gratuity is part to the cost of the food. It's not a separate line item that simply pisses most people off (particularly in a restaurant such as this with no wait staff, counter service only). I really want this place to survive, so I hope they'll change direction and simply raise menu items 20%.
