No frills taco spot! They have lunch specials that are 10 bucks! Quick service. We ordered the beef tongue taco, al pastor and steak burrito! All were so good. Al pastor taco was amazing ! Their sauce are also really good

I've only ever driven by here but I've ordered delivery from them over a dozen times. The food is good and they have a wide ranging menu. The burritos and the dinner plates are very good. Delivery is always quick and I've never had any mistakes so far.

My husband and I walked by El Rey Latino many times and we didn't pay attention to them due to their humble exterior. Their reviews on yelp are also not outstanding but they are one of the most popular restaurants on seamless for delivery. It's Cinco de Mayo today so we decided to have Mexican food for dinner. We ordered Bistec Huarache ($10.45), Carne Enchilada Quesadilla ($9.1), Calamari Fritos ($9.9) and 3 Leches Cake ($4.7). We scheduled to have delivery at 6:00pm and they were really on time. Overall, their food was decent and our favorite was the 3 Leches Cake. It was super creamy, sweet but not greasy at all and will be the reason we order again or visit shortly.

I have never been in here, but order food from here all the time. The tacos are so good. My go to are always tacos and empanadas. I ordered a gordita once that was good, but mainly stick to what I know and love. Their carne asada, al pastor and chorizo tacos are my go tos. I always get a beef empanada too, a little greasy, but still delicious. The prices are reasonable and the delivery is always fast. I recommend it. Maduros (large) - great as a midnight snack lol

This review is just for their maduros. Soooo good. I could just eat them and nothing else. I actually drove more than 30 minutes one night just to get maduros from this place. Yes, most Latino restaurants serve them, but not all serve good ones. Theirs are always the right ripeness, so they're sweet and sometimes gooey. So good!

    Chilaquiles

Just when I thought I couldn't find a nice spot that reminds me of home (Los Angeles) where in every other corner you find delicious Mexican meals, I found it! This location is the cutest and the most comforting to me (a non-local). It makes me feel at home and their menu choices are spot on! I ordered chilaquiles verdes and a torta of huevo con jamón. Chilaquiles verdes are rare for restaurants to offer, to be honest, and not my favorite, but I was craving chilaquiles so why not. They were delicious as you have an option to choose your protein (beef or chicken). I went with chicken. The chilaquiles did need a bit of salt BUT salt is one thing that humans can add to taste. This was not a deal breaker for me as they are well served! The torta de jamón brought tears to my eyes because they make them exactly like my mom would. The torta is quiet big and it has avocado, lettuce, tomato, jam, jalapeño, a bit of beans and other delicious ingredients. This was my fave pick of the two. Service was quick and friendly. This location is so clean too. So far, probably the cleanest I've seen in New York. I definitely recommend order for pick in person and or walk in order then wait in your car. I'm giving this place a 4 but I will be revisiting and may up date my review at a later time. This is authentic Mexican food. Mexican check.

I wanted to try this place for a while and finally got to today. Got in at exactly 1:00pm and there were only 3 tables of people and 1 other person ordering take out for a total of 5 customers and a ton of people in the kitchen. Ordered the pernil lunch special and asked about the chicken lunch special. I asked if it was 1/2 a chicken and the lady said yes. So I said ok let me have that and she said oh well that is the meal then. So I asked again what does the lunch special have then and she said 1/4 a chicken. So... a 1/4 chicken lunch special is $7.25 but the regular meal is $6.95. The math just doesn't add up... But anyways ended up just ordering a full chicken by itself. As we stood there waiting for the food. Noticed the plates all the customers had were huge... Like family sized platter huge. Definitely not the same portion size that you get for take out. Got our food and I asked for extra green sauce. The lady said the sauce doesn't come with it and how many did I want. How weird is that? I asked for 2, but I probably should've gotten 6. Got home and noticed the chicken was super small. 1/2 of a chicken is basically the size of a 1/4 chicken you get at Peruvian places. Also stupid me, I went against my gut and ordered this knowing that this was a Mexican/Spanish place... Anyways fine the chicken was super small, more of a cornish hen than a chicken. What sucks is the the chicken was sooooo overcooked. The dark meat was so dry. The white meat, well I don't think I even need to get into it. In all honesty I have no idea if flavor wise it was good, but I have to say it was the worst roast chicken I have ever had in my life. The Pernill was decent. The pork was dry but pretty tasty. Definitely needs sauce. The rice was pretty decent and so were the plantains. Willing to give this place another shot but I'm going to listen to my gut and only order tacos or burritos.

The staff speaks to you in Spanish exclusively, which made me glad one of my boys is Honduran. The TVs all over the place are playing what appear to be Colombian music videos that were made in the 80s featuring old men and attractive young women. They've got buckets of Colombian beer and frosted mugs so cold that the beer turned to slush around the sides. They've got a platter called the Bandeja la Berraca that consists of rice, beans, steak, plantains, eggs, avocado salad, little corn cakes, blood sausage, other sausage (amazing), and a giant side of chicharron. Eat and drink to you're bursting, while adorable Colombian kids run around the place. And rejoice that you live in NYC, where these things can be had.

The teriyaki chicken was cool The chicken chili fried rice was undercooked. And once again the branzino was an absolute miss. All around not one single person liked it . As far as the sides the sweet plantains were great . The mashed potatoes were terrible. I had to show the manager . There was nothing smooth and creamy about this. I literally cut it with a knife. She said wow ok I see . And gave us complimentary shrimp because of it. The desserts are a hard pass . Cheesecake and molten lava cake and just nothing special . The cheesecake is grainy . You can feel the sugar in your mouth. And the chocolate molten cake is a microwaved something if you want to call it cake . Our server was very responsive to our requests. I just wouldn't willingly come here again. Gave it the good ole three tries and now I can confidently say I'm good off it . Don't need to come back . I've had enough strobe lights and loud music. The most recent time was a few days ago, and it was excellent. The staff is nice, and the portions are generous for the price point, with two of us taking home leftovers out of the four people dining. To drink, three of us had shakes, or rather batidos, with the prices being $7 en agua or $8 en leche. I went with Lulo, which is listed as Solanum online, but really refers to naranjilla. As per the name, it means a little orange, but it is closer in flavor to a mix between pineapple and lime. Others had Maracuyá/passion fruit and Guanábana/soursop, and everyone enjoyed their drinks. They gave us some chulpi/corn nuts on the table, along with some aji verde, a lightly spicy green sauce which went with some of our heavier appetizers. Our heavier appetizer was two orders of the Bolón Mixto for $10. Bolon refers to a green plantain ball, and they offer the traditional cheese version along with chicharron, or with camarones/shrimp. The mixto combines the cheese and pork, and it was delicious, but very filling. One was more than enough, but we still enjoyed it, with the aji verde helping to reduce the overall richness. There was also the $6.50 Yapingachos/Llapingacho, or pan-fried potato cakes. These came two to an order and came topped with an onion and tomato salsa, along with some lettuce below. The potato cakes were a lot lighter by comparison to our other appetizer, but still flavorful. I would recommend them, as with other people who go here. Our smaller main dish was the Ceviche de Pescado for $17.00, or fish cocktail served either with rice or, as our choice, chifles or fried plantain chips. This was also available as a mixto, but I didn't order it as I have a pulpo allergy. There was a large amount of fresh fish inside for the price, making it very worth it. As with most ceviches, there was some sourness from the lime along with some fresh chopped herbs, onions, and tomatoes. It lacked a bit of heat I usually prefer, but I still liked it, and the whole thing was devoured quickly. Our other main dishes were all $19. My favorite of the bunch was the Seco de Chivo, with goat stew slowly cooked in home-made sofrito and beer, served with yellow rice, sliced avocado, and sweet plantain. The goat was cooked down until it was extremely tender, but still had a bit of chew, and there was a good amount of meat, even with the amount of bones in there. The broth was savory and mildly sweet, being warming, comforting, and perfect on top of the rice. This was excellent. For most of the other group, their favorite was the Chaulafan, a mix of stir-fried rice with chicken, beef, shrimp, egg, and veggies served with sweet plantain and avocado. The rice had a nice texture with some lightly crispy portions and was mildly salty. The meat inside was mostly very tender, regardless of what meat it was. This was excellent as well. The remaining dish was the Sango de Camarones, listed as a tropical dish and a purée of green plantains, slowly cooked in peanut sauce and shrimp, and topped with citrus red onions served with yellow rice and sliced avocado. The dish had a unique, almost gruel-like texture, which was a bit off-putting to some, but others like myself liked it. The shrimp inside was tender, and the dish felt a bit richer than the other mains. This was probably our least favorite main, but it was still good. We were quite full, but got some $7 Flan for dessert, which is in-house made. It wasn't overly sweet, which is my preference, and the texture was semi-soft. It was a good version, and the portion was large for the price. We liked this as well. Not many complaints here. Friendly service and good, reasonably priced food.
