The good: they have things available in store that I otherwise have to buy online, plus they have store pickup as an option. Coupons available in the midweek sometimes. The bad: the store is cramped and the shelf prices do not match the online/register prices. I didn't push the issue, but the shelf tag of the item I bought recently was a dollar or two less than it rang up. Beware. read more

We recently bought an old Wahiawa house and Ace comes in clutch. I still don't understand how I can find pretty much anything I need here even when it's like 5 times smaller than Home Depot or Lowe's. Prices are competitive here compared to other hardware stores, there's always parking, and something about this place is so welcoming. Every employee I've come into contact with has been eager to help me find things and the old-timers are probably the most knowledgeable people to educated me about my home projects. I ordered a yeti cooler online for in store pick up. When I arrived I walked to the counter to pick it up, I didn't get a chance to look at it as the lady who helped me, grabbed it from behind the desk and loaded it in my car. My mistake as I should've checked before I drove off. I actually wiped it down with a wet napkin before I took pictures to see if any of these scratches would go away. I found two stains front and back that looked like melted purple candy. The top & bottom was covered with brown dust. And there are so many scratches! I know it's just a cooler but if I'm spending $325 for it, at least give it to me in new condition. Terrible customer service. I would give zero stars. Came here to get a car key cut. Guy at the counter called over walkie talkie for someone to assist me. I turn around and see three employees talking... no response so they must not know how to cut a key. I wait 15 mins and ask again is anyone is available to help me. again he calls over walkie talkie and no one answers or comes by. He asked another employee passing by but he's going to lunch so he cannot help. I ask him isn't anyone else available?? He tells me no, it's Sunday! I thank him and leave. I ventured here to purchase an Ego leaf blower after seeing Dave F's post. I had totally forgotten about this place. I wanted to support a "local" small business vs. a big box company. Yeah, yeah I do realize Ace is part of a national chain, but these small hardware stores are a dying breed. I love exploring these small hardware stores. It is amazing what you can find. They offer everything a big box store has & more! I need to come back to explore further. I did notice clothing, fishing supplies, Yeti coolers, even items for pets as well as key cutting service. I feel these smaller mom & pop stores are a great asset to the community. I saw numerous people pop in to quickly pick up a few items for their DIY project. Ace seems to stock items specifically geared for the Hawaii community. This store stocked a large section of Traeger grills and smokers and kamados as well as pellets & kiawe. I found a well stocked name brand bbq seasonings and sauces too! There is ample parking and more spots past the gate. The only disappointment is that there was no plant nursery. Hubby wanted to go here and check out some items. We found clearance items and thanks to the elderly man that works here. He was super helpful and nice. Everything in the store was organized but aisles were kind of narrow to shop in especially if there's a lot of people. I wanted a fan but we didn't purchase one here today. Maybe when it goes on sale. Hubby bought other miscellaneous things for the outdoors like seeds he can plant, etc. Plenty of parking outside. Ace has ALOT of things in such a small store! Home and building supplies of course all the way to fishing gear..,,. Prettty cool. What really stood out was for a place this small, there's a lot of staff. Which meant service around every corner! But for this review I can't tell tell you exactly how much of what kind of building supplies Ace has although it did look very sufficient to me, I just really needed a Yeti cooler ASAP and ACE delivered. I called a few different places and those other places did not have what I was looking for. Ace did, and in a variety of colors! So in conclusion, it was very worth the drive out to good ol' Wahiawa. Great staff, total rip off. I was remodeling my bathroom an needed a 2x4x8 to hold up a medicine cabinet I was mounting. I went to Ace in Wahiawa due to its close proximity. Knowing full well that we are experiencing a record high inflation, I figured the wood that I was going to purchase was going to be expensive. I asked for the cheapest plank too. It was $30. Yes, that's right. $30 for a plank of wood. I didn't think anything of it because I thought it was the nature of our current economic situation and I've never bought a plank of wood prior to this project. Upon going to Home Depot for other supplies, I found a plank for less than $5. Avoid Ace Hardware at all costs. Go somewhere else because they will price gouge you. At least the staff was friendly, that is a plus. read more

My other half usually is the one to come here for all our house projects while I wait in the car. This time, we tag teamed and he went in to choose his Christmas gift and then sent me a picture for me to go in and purchase while he waited in the car with the keikis. We're too old to surprise each other lol. Of course I got lost even though he told me (broad) directions of where the product was at lol I ran into a worker and she told me the aisle number. As I was blankly staring at the aisle looking for where it was, Isaiah finished helping another customer and noticed. He was very helpful!! He let me know about the warranty and extra year warranty if I get a certain amount of gas with it. He carried the product to the front which was nice without me telling him I'm not cleared to carry heavy objects at the moment. Another gal rang me up at the counter and then Isaiah brought it outside and told me a guy will start it and test it to ensure it works before we leave. Rest assured the workers here are very helpful shall I have to come in and pick something up for him. I usually receive coupons in the mail and totally forgot to use it..so that was the only bummers.. Snacks and ice cream in the front are handy when he takes the boys in with him. Thank- you, Midweek for your advertising inserts which prompted me to venture out . Glad I did! The customer service is superb , knowledgeable & friendly! They really treat you nicely from the time you enter the door . Great customer service these days is a rare commodity & I luv supporting local. This store is very nicely merchandised & they have a lot of everything you can think of . It's deceptive from the street, as it looks a lot smaller from the outside . I'm the wife that dreads going to the hardware store with their husband..like literally stomping and pouting kind of dreading (how embarrassing; I know!). But I love coming here. What I love most about this hardware store is that they carry more than just hardware! There's fishing supplies, grilling and cookware, home decor...and what I love most is that they really cater to the people's needs in their community. Wahiawa has a lot of older homes some parts are very hard to find when doing repairs but Ace always seems to have it. Management seems to be doing a great job with they're staff; I'm always getting greeted at the door, being asked if I need any assistance...everyone is so friendly and knowledgeable. read more

I've been buying from Ace for years now. The folks are always friendly and helpful, and they often have items that you can't find at the big box hardware stores. They also cut and thread steel pipe, which is hard to find these days. I think the only thing I think they could improve upon is not charging a premium for you to select your own lumber (all the big box stores let you pick whatever you want without charging you extra). Other than that, they're awesome-- I built two restaurants using mostly Ace hardware! read more

I recently made the drive out to Wahiawa to check this place out. Although there were multiple ace hardware stores closer to me, Pioneer Ace in Wahiawa had a huge selection of outdoor grills in stock. I was fortunate enough to have lots of help making my selection by multiple sales associates. I ended up settling for a traeger ironwood. The staff was super nice and helpful the whole way through and I couldnt be more happy with my puchase. I'll be going back for sure!!! read more

This store delivers the BEST customer experience. Our cashier today Logan was very friendly & courteous!!! If you ask for help, the store employee will walk you to the shelf where the item is located. We bought two bags of mulch & a store employee loaded our car!!! There's other hardware stores closer to our home but we drive 30 minutes to this store....worth the drive. Went in for stuff. Floor help needed to be seeked except for one that I literally ran into. Then was asked if I needed help. Directed me fine. Product was hidden behind wrong products on wrong hook. I was gonna leave frustrated, but looked deeper and found what I needed. Upon checkout, ladies were talking about food as I stood there ready to checkout. I waited about 30 secondd. She called for me, I went to her cashier station. Not a word. Kept talking about food with other ladies. Scanned my stuff. Kept chitchatting. Receipt came out, she stuck it out and kept talking about food. Total disregard for a customer. I said (sarcastically), "You're welcome." She didn't hear... food. read more

The store called me three hours later to pick them up. The staff member working the warehouse area was prompt & courteous. What the he**?! This took place yesterday - Tuesday August 4, 2020 at around 4:30 pm. I was standing in line at the key counter waiting for Abe to finish helping a customer. They were looking at remote keys at the revolving display. Another young Asian male sales associate about 5'4" came up to me and asked if I needed help. I told him that I needed to get a key made. He looked at Abe who was still assisting the remote keys customer, said that Abe would help me, and then walked away. I continued to wait. At one point the remote key customer ran out to his car. Abe just stood at the display and did not acknowledge my presence. Maybe he could have said "I'll be right with you. Thank you for your patience." Nope. Nothing. Another male customer walked into the store and stood behind/to the left of me. Apparently another male sales associate - tall Asian name badge hidden - had approached him and asked if he needed any assistance. This customer said that he needed a key made for his car. A Nissan Maxima, I believe. The tall Asian male sales associate proceeded to take his key. On the way to the counter, he made eye contact with me and looked down at my key that I had held out in front of me and said nothing. I was clearly standing in line at the counter. He walked behind me and proceeded to the key making machine. No questioning of whether or not I needed any help with my key. I was speechless. Here I was in front of the counter, carrying other store products in my arms, and holding my key out for sales associates to see. What the he**?! Does anyone see that I need assistance with a key?? Did I really need to announce my presence over the microphone? I decided to not cause a scene and to just wait to see how this would unfold. EVENTUALLY, the tall Asian male associate with a hidden name badge turned around and asked if I needed help at which I said "Yes! And I was in line before that other guy!!!" He didn't apologize or appear to be remorseful. He simply asked "How many keys do you need?" I was stunned with the overall display of customer service in this store. I like ACE stores. I prefer these stores over places like Home Depot, Lowe's, and City Mill. Many people feel the same way. However, I don't think I can fully recommend this particular Wahiawa ACE store. Unless you don't mind being ignored and/or if you're a female carrying a few items, holding a key while standing in the right line, and following the rules. Shameful behavior in this culture and during these difficult COVID times! SMH Note: One star because I was able to find the gardening tools I needed. read more

The customer service at pioneer ace hardware is unsatisfactory. Kevin the weed trimmer technician isn't honest, does not keep within the premise of excellent customer service. Does not call you when he says he will, did not consult with me about the paid for diagnostic and the problem with my weed trimmer, makes up excuses for his dishonesty, makes things up to tell you without a honor. I will surely let everyone know of the this very important service that every business needs to be successful. Pioneer hardware wahiawa location specifically the weed trimmer technician is a definite employer liability and overall capital lost in the long run. If you built your business on dishonest and unreliable employee. The weed trimmer or repair department holds your top profit margins then you are headed for disaster. As whole repairs play a part in your success. Train them or don't. Continuing education or not. Come on guys! Your success is dependent upon customer loyalty and return customer satisfaction. Recently I wanted to get Kiawe wood for my charcoal grill. I went to other places and it had Kiawe wood chips and wood chunks. I was in Wahiawa and thought to check Pioneer Ace Hardware to see what they have. To my surprise they had Kiawe wood chunks but also Kiawe Charcoal. I was so stoked that I bought a bag of Kiawe wood chunks and Kiawe Charcoal. I just want to see if the Kiawe taste is way better then charcoal briquettes. Pioneer Ace Hardware also has a good selection of grills and accessories. I was surprised that the Weber Smokey Joe prices were comparable to Amazon. You can get Amazon prices without any waiting. I went to Wahiawa Ace on Sunday. I bought four boxes of nuts, washers, etc. Three of the boxes had prices written on them, one didn't. All the prices are on labels on the shelves. I went to the counter, and the cashier rang up three of the boxes, then asked if I knew the price of the fourth one. I said I didn't, and rather than have her call someone to check, I offered to go and look. She said OK. I took about a minute, got the price and when I got back I was shocked to see she moved my boxes to the side and was taking care of another customer, and I had to wait in line. She didn't look at me, or say anything. In a while another register opened and I grabbed my boxes and brought them there. The cashier rang them up without asking the price of the fourth. I wasn't paying too much attention and I assumed she scanned it for the price, and that the first cashier's scanner wasn't working. I paid, got my receipt and, without a thank you from the cashier, I left. On the way to my car I looked at the receipt and noticed she undercharged me for the unmarked box by almost three dollars. I went back to the same cashier and told her of the mistake. Without a word of acknowledgment she asked me for the price. I paid the difference, and when she gave me my receipt all she said was- here you go. That's it. No sorry, no thank you, no nothing. Just- here you go. I've been shopping at Wahiawa Ace for almost forty years. In the last few, I noticed that it's a rare occasion when cashiers say thank you. It's as if management orders them to not say it. I know it's a small thing, but showing courtesy to customers is one of the things good retail establishments do. Home Depot and Lowe's cashiers always say thank you. Unless it's an emergency, I'll go down to Waipahu to buy hardware. Ace lost a customer on Sunday. read more

Here's the gist: Poor customer service from a woman with the name tag 'Kapua" but using a register in the name of 'Sarah' according to the receipt she handed us while avoiding all eye contact by shielding her eyes with her baseball cap so that practically only her face mask was visible. Here's the long explanation if interested: I came here with my family looking for an Ego brand battery and was directed by another worker to the front cashier area where I was told it would be since it was not on the sales floor. While being "helped" by Kapua (or is it Sarah? [see above]), she told me: "keep still" nothing else... just that... (I was explaining what I was looking for and trying to let her know it might be upfront with them). Anyways, I apologized and tried to keep my phone as still as possible so that she could see the item number from the website. Then she told me it was in stock so I again mention that I was told that it would be up front here with you folks. She said with attitude "Well, we'll have to look for it". Then she looks towards the next customer in line. So I ask "Well, is someone going to help me look for it?". She says yeah, just stand over there and I'll help you as she points to the closed register next to her. I tell her thanks and move that way. She then let out a HUGE sigh that sounded exaggerated and looked dramatic even with her mask and baseball hat on. So, I look at her and let out a sigh as well because she is now motioning the next customer and proceeds to ring him up. After I let out my sigh, the cashier next to her at register 1, who is helping someone in an ace hardware smock/uniform, pays attention and the 2 cashiers talk and the other ace employee in the smock walks away. A few moments pass and the worker that originally helps me on the sales floor comes over to let them know "It's up here with you guys". She tries to say it's not and then he points out that there's a stack of them right by her feet... literally a step away from her current position at the register. My husband now sees it when he comes over from having browsed the aisles and she sees that he sees the stack of 2.5Ah batteries that we were looking for and her tone changes as she explains to him that those are a "do not sell" because they are customer returns.... The whole stack... all factory sealed, unopened are all returns... She goes to the closed register where I'm at, away from my husband who is carrying our baby, types some things into the computer and says she's looking for stock at other stores, my husband now steps back to lean on a nearby cart when she heads back to her customer free register. There are no other customers in the line or even in sight for that matter. She then instructs the original employee that helped me on the sales floor to go over to me... standing at the next register over, where she was just at mere seconds ago and where she said SHE would help me so that HE can ask me for my name and number so that I can come pick up the battery tomorrow morning... BTW, I can hear all these words being spoken between them because the store is empty from where I am standing aside from the workers and my family and the registers are not that far apart... smh. When he comes over, I ask him if I can buy the 4.0Ah battery that he showed me on the sales floor instead because I don't want to come back in the morning. First time ever dealing with this type of customer service... Terrible. I was prepared for out of stock which is understandable but this was plain rude... There were 4 employees up front at one point with no other customer to help, granted one employee may have not been on the clock (just in uniform) but out of the 4 only the sales floor guy was of any help. Despite the situation, his demeanor was pleasant. I thanked him twice on the way out. I'm leaving 3 stars. 1 for the sales floor guy alone, 1 for grace during these backwards times that we live in, another one because I don't wish any ill towards the company or those involved. I hope it was just a fluke (though the last 2 of my 3 trips were not so great). This was my experience and I don't wish to revisit in the near future if I can at all avoid it. The customer service here is excellent. I went there this past Father's day and treated myself to a Traeger pellet smoker. Probably the most expensive thing I've bought myself in years. The worker there, an older Caucasian gentleman, was so knowledgeable about the smoker and gave me some great advice. If not for him I probably wouldn't have purchased the smoker, but I'm really glad I did. I've been back a few times since and every time the customer service has been outstanding! read more

Located in Wahiawa on Kilani Ave across from Aloha gas station. Your average hardware store with that infamous "hardware store smell". Ample parking... the lost is usually never full; the most I've seen was a few cars in the lot at a time. We came to buy a new door knob set for the screen door... we looked a little lost so an employee directed us to the appropriate aisle. There was a decent selection of door knobs - even the same one we had on! (my [maybe future mother in law's]) door knob is OOOOLD so ACE definitely carries a lot of items that most places don't (agree with Terrance Y.). We also made extra keys which was done promptly. Prices for items are comparable to other places... depending on what item you're looking for. For convenience sake, we just go to ACE. Friendly staff! read more
