What is that awful smell?!? They have it all here. All types of hot sauce, salsa, candy, pasta, seasonal items, food items from other countries. Usually if I can't find it anywhere else then I can find it here. There's also a cafe inside if you want lunch. Only reason for a lost star is the smell. WHAT IS IT?? Pirate O's is one of the best small businesses in Salt Lake City. Whenever I need a stocking stuffer, some munchies for myself, or a unique gift - I go to Pirate O's. They have a cheese and soda room always filled with new and fun products, a pasta and sauce room with so many fun shapes of pasta and so many fun salsas, hot sauces, imported chocolates and nick knacks to choose from! It's so much fun to go and see their new seasonal items and goods. I never leave Pirate O's empty handed. read more

Such a great place for all manner of exotic & imported foods, candies, ingredients, and add-ons. Pirate O's is my go-to-place for Christmas Stocking supplies, especially imported candies from the UK, German, and Switzerland, and all manner of other chocolates and fun stocking-stuffers located throughout the store. My family and I usually make it there three or four times a year, and of course just before Christmas...and then again AFTER Christmas for the goodies you need but Santa didn't bring. For me, it was a resupply mission for my favorite pimento-stuffed olives for my Gin martinis (specifically the Sable & Rosenfeld 'tipsy' pimento olives soaked in sweet vermouth), along with the same brand and style of cocktail onion! De-lish! I also picked up a bottle of Trappey's Original Louisiana Hot Sauce as I think it beats Cholula hands down (at least as far as flavor goes!) Note that Pirate O's has a HUGE selection of hot sauces, from the sublime to the truly ridiculously hot stuff sure to leave scars on your tongue. Oh, have been enjoying their Mattern Sausage brand cured smoked cooked brats, made right there in Orange, CA. Grilled they are hard to beat. In my last few trips to Pirate O's, I've discovered that they now carry duck fat, Aussie pies, Tiger Sauce, Crio Brü, and a growing selection of First Colony coffee beans (new roasts!). I love this little shop! :) Have you ever wanted to buy the kind of candy that is perhaps made by elves in the North Pole? Or the kind of candy that only the Easter Bunny could deliver? Pirate O's has the most unique candy!! Perhaps you are looking for a special, mouth watering, hot sauce to give all of your favorite foods a "kick". Okay, okay...what I'm trying to say is that this little store has aisles of things that you cannot find anywhere else!! It's organized, and all of the items are top notch!! This place also has a deli that serves sandwiches, and special coffee's. If you stop by on a snowy or rainy day...bring your rainboots...the parking lot is unpaved, and can be muddy. read more

Pirate O's is a gourmet market with some interesting finds. My husband and I stopped by here this afternoon after our visit to the Loveland Living Planet Aquarium (a little less than 1.5 miles away). We were hoping to grab some sandwiches at their deli, but unfortunately they are closed on Sundays. But they do sell drinks, like coffee drinks, blended drinks, etc (we didn't get any). This store is a real interesting find with all kinds of neat food items, kitchen and dishware, gift baskets and toys. I really enjoyed looking at everything. But I do have to mention that most of the items in this store is kind of pricey. I have seen a number of these food items at Trader Joe's and other super markets that sell them cheaper. But it is typical that a gourmet market would charge higher for their items. I was interested in purchasing some candy but the line was a little long so I decided to forgo it. Perhaps another time. Parking in their lot may be limited on weekends when more people shop here. Definitely worth a visit. But if you want to try their sandwiches, don't try to come on a Sunday like we did. read more

Love this place!! Sometimes we will just wander around and see what they have, we call it treasure hunting. (They do have pirate stuff!) If you've been out of the country, you can find some better chocolate than what we get here in the states. They have a great variety of candies. I like Galaxy bars, Aeros, and Flakes myself. They also have a TON of hot sauces from various places. We are regulars to get Iguana (half moon bay) sauces. I had bourbon creams with my tea in Ireland, I was on a hunt for them. Typically, I hit this place up when I want stuff imported from Britain or one of its colonies (former colonies included) or, more likely, hot sauce. This place has a lot of very cool branded hot stuff, from pickles to hot sauces and their line is quite good. There is also many import candies, including the liquor-filled ones and various other sundries, such as Vegemite (one day I will get up the nerve for that). Anyway, for all that, I've never actually had food there, mostly grabbing something packaged and leaving again. This time, I happened in around lunch and went with one of the paninis. While the counter girl was inexpressibly nice, the sandwich was not. It was fine, though not one of the better paninis I've had, but seemed to confirm my earlier suspicion that the food counter was an afterthought and the food on the level of what you'd expect from a market that also serves these other things too. Definitely not a destination, but if you're there for something else and hungry, you could do worse. read more

I don't come here a lot. It's not on the route for anyplace I'd normally go. It's quirky. You can't get a full set of anything you'd want to go shopping for if you were getting groceries. That said, it's the kind of place you have to go to every so often. When I was in Bruges, Belgium I was hoping to get some Belgian pearl sugar. I checked every food store in the old city center and found nothing. They suggested looking in the stores outside the inner ring road. I tried that and got nothing. What an awesome little market. I noticed this on Yelp, it looked fun, so we decided to go. We weren't expecting much, but saw that the picture of the hot sauce wall had one of our favorites that is expensive to buy online, so I was excited. We pulled up to the side, I tried to go in the wrong door, and then we went in the right door. The store is surprisingly big. Just when you think you're finished with a section you notice another isle, corner, nook, or something else. We found the cajun hot sauce we've been looking for, some various international candy, some delicious San Pedro Punch soda, Zapps Voodoo chips, and so many more great things. Cheese was 30% off, so I bought some local curds. The cashiers were friendly and had good recommendations for us. I picked up a wasabi kitkat and the girl mentioned she was on a quest to eat all the kitkat flavors and listed off about 20 or so flavors she had tried. The deli looks good, but we got there too late. Overall it was a fun experience and I'd recommend stopping by. We really enjoyed it and are looking forward to going back. The only thing I wish they had was Gator Hammock hot sauce. I can't find that anywhere other than online. read more

This place is super fun to explore! They have all sorts of different foods from all over the world and tons of novelty foods as well. Want BYU or the U shaped pasta, they have you covered. It is definitely a weird eclectic mix of stuff, but really awesome. I really love their bottled drinks section. They have tons of different types of root beer and other exotic sodas to try. They also have really good frappuccinos and smoothies that are a pretty good price. I just like that I am able to get my fix of Kinder bueno bars, European chocolate is so much better than ours. read more

This is a fun, little store to check out especially if you're in the mood for trying new things! It looks pretty ghetto on the outside and definitely could use a remodel on the inside as well... But this place offers a fun selection of various food, desserts, candy, seasonings, condiments, among other things to choose from that you don't typically get in a regular grocery store. It's somewhat like a World Market, but more geared towards only selling food. They do have a small Cafe inside where you can get drinks such as customized coffee drinks, tea, smoothies, boba drinks etc.. They also make sandwiches that have unique ingredients (some specific only to Pirate O's). which make the sandwiches better than just a simple typical boring sandwich you get at other places. #15 on the menu is my favorite! read more

I visited for the first time this weekend. I told my kids they could spend $5 each on a snack and we left $80 poorer ‍ Such a fun store!

This isn't your typical neighborhood grocery store. A lot of times I come here just to look around and be amused (and somehow end up buying bunch of things anyway). Can't help it. They have a lot of interesting stuff from all over the world here. It's like the world museum, only that you don't pay admission and you can buy the things you like home. Every turns and every aisles are filled with yet another find. I have seen Zombie Repellant hot sauce and Snacks that look mysteriously like worms and crickets here. I however, always settled for things that are a lot more conventional, like British digestive biscuits (or what the Americans call cookies) and Kinder's Happy Hippos. They have one section just for different type of cheese and sausages, and another with pastas. Not only food, they sell kitchen stuff too. I see cute mittens and mugs, and even fondue pots. Since it's October, they have an entire section dedicated for scary halloween decorations, which include skeleton hand that keeps freaking me out. These will magically turn into Christmas decorations come November. If being amused makes you hungry, they have a small cafe selling coffee and boba, with some food like sandwiches and rice puddings. I have only tried their boba, which tend to be too sweet but good enough to satisfy my boba craving without having to drive all the way north from Draper. There are few tables where you can sit down and let your heartbeat returns to its normal rate. I totally recommend this place to anyone who are looking for new things to try or interesting gifts.
