    Italian Dip
    Shannon L.

Was driving through Salt Lake and my husband said he wanted a deli sandwich and this place popped up. I'll be honest, wasn't expecting it to be in an industrial area but I would've seen that if I would've paid more attention to the map. The ladies working the counter were welcoming and the sandwiches were delicious. I got the Italian dip and my husband got the club. Don't let the location fool you, it's a great spot!

This little sandwich shop is a gem! It is just down the street from where I work and I have driven past it a million times! Today was my first time ordering from there. Definitely will not be the last! First, they are incredibly affordable. What they charge for a full sandwich is what a lot of places charge for a half! Second, yum! I bought two sandwiches, a BLT with provolone on sourdough bread, and a chicken salad with cheddar on sourdough bread and sprouts added. I ordered two since I ate lunch early and wanted a "just in case" sammy in case I get hungry later! Yay for real sourdough bread! I have been disappointed by other places because the sourdough just tastes like white bread. Not the case here! I ate the BLT sandwich first and it hit the spot! The veggies were so fresh! I think I probably would have wanted a little more bacon, but it is just $1 to add extra. I only took a bite of the chicken salad sandwich to taste it because I was full after the BLT! That was good as well! I think next time I will add cucumbers for that extra crunch. Or even some bacon.... Mmmmm..... For a good straightforward sandwich at an excellent price, try Caruso's. Plus, supporting small business is awesome! (Side note... I saw someone commented that it was expensive for what they got. ARE YOU SERIOUS? As I mentioned a few times, this place is VERY AFFORDABLE!)

Pretty basic sandwich but sometimes that's what you want. Not every meal needs to be some gourmet experience. That's what you get here. A nice selection of comfort sandwiches. Filled just about right, not too little nor too much either. This is a place where you can get in and out for half hour lunch break. Although some hot fried food like fries would be nice or some dessert, but that would cut into the speed of this place. Sidenote: Maybe long ago they had a microwave but that has been replaced by one of those quick toasters.

I came in a few months ago and did a review, but they got an updated menu! The lady at the counter is always so sweet (I've been going here for years and I have never asked her name)!! This time we got my usual of veggie on a sourdough loaf with a side of au jus and we also got a Pepper Melt.

Came in on a rainy Wednesday afternoon. Lots of people ahead of us but the line moved pretty quick. I got one of the toasted sandwiches on the Italian roll. I also got two cookies for the road. Sandwich was good and there was tons of meat! These guys definitely don't skimp! The bread was really good and I appreciated the addition of salt and vinegar. Reasonable price, good portion, very casual ambiance in a warehouse district. Would love to come back when in the area

Looks like it's been around for quit awhile. Located around redwood and 215 I googled this joint from a review plus wanted a sandwich. Staff took my order right away there was no wait and they were friendly. They did my sandwich wrong but I was to hungry to complain. The bread was still soft sometimes places have hard bread. I was in and out, menu was not to bad and not to expensive.

Best little local sandwich place I've found. There is a 6.95 special that includes a full sandwich, chips, and a small fountain drink. The protein changes every day and it's always my go-to. There's a variety of sandwiches. There was a special of a green chili sandwich on the board. Probably a limited edition. The best thing is the punch card. It makes you want to keep coming back. I included a photo of the toppings for your sandwich. Pretty useful as the counter gal asks what you want on each sandwich.

I think this is the best veggie sandwich for cost in Salt Lake. Always fresh and made with care. Weekly staple for me, thanks Caruso's deli!

Caruso's Deli is somewhat of a hidden gem. I never would have found it had I not been asked to review it. After tasting The Godfather (and my husband's Po Boy) I would most definitely return. You can read my full review on Serious Eats (just google Serious Eats Caruso's Deli) My one frustration would be the hours. They are only open M-F, from 10a-4p. And they seem to close occasionally during those posted hours - I went by on a Friday when they should have been open and the doors were locked and no one answered the phone. Either way great sandwiches.

Cheff Salad with extra banana peppers, ( the way I love it)... delicious!

They do full-service sit-down and to-go orders and have a wide selection of hot and cold sandwiches, bagels, dessert, other New York/Jewish style deli foods, and beer! Sloppy Joe - 5/5 - A large (1/2 lb) double decker sandwich with pastrami and corned beef. There are 3 layers of bread. The meats are tender and flavorful and blend nicely together with the thousand island dressing and slaw between the layers. It also comes with a side, I picked the potato salad which was good too. Not too much mayo but it was still nice and creamy. I just wish I got a little more potato salad to match the portion size of the sandwich! Potato Latke Pancakes - 4.5/5 - They were nice, hot, and crispy. You get 2 pancakes which have a nice thickness to them too. The flavor was good, I just think you should get more sour cream and apple sauce. It comes with a small cup of each, but its not quite enough for the 2 pancakes and its 50c each to get extra! Matzo Ball Soup - 3/5 - The matzo ball and soup broth both had a good flavor. The proportions were just off however, a huge matzo ball but not enough broth. And the broth didn't have enough of chicken meat and veggies (carrot/celery). I basically had 1/2 the matzo ball left over at the end Attempted Murder Imperial Stout Beer - 5/5 - Its a vanilla cinnamon stout. The flavor is subtle but in a good way! Its not sweet, but has a smooth bitterness and mouthfeel with a slight fragrance of the vanilla cinnamon. If you like stout, def give this a try. Its a strong one too, 10.5% ABV! The restaurant was clean, service was good, and there is a good amount of seating and its decorated nicely inside. Def give this place a try!

If it's your first visit, just know lunch works a little differently, you walk up to the counter and order from the deli case. We had no idea what we were doing at first, but the woman helping us at the counter was super patient and walked us through everything and gave recommendations. So Nice! I went with the mozzarella-filled risotto ball with marinara and a mozzarella tomato salad. Yes, it was a very mozzarella-heavy lunch choice and I stand by it. Also grabbed a fro-sè and kept it simple with a San Pellegrino. My other half definitely won the "better lunch" competition with egg salad sandwich, roasted brussels sprouts, and the pasta salad combo was ridiculously good. Parking was easier than expected too. There's a side parking lot we totally missed at first, plus a lot of nearby street parking. Definitely one of those places I'd go back to on another sunny day just to sit outside, snack, and slowly sip a fro-sè.
