As other reviewers have said, it is the customer service that is severely lacking. This place is not cheap, or even affordable. We went yesterday because we had family visiting and wanted to treat them to an authentic Filipino meal. We spent over $200 and tipped well. They were happy with the food, and enjoyed the portions, but the service was pretty lacking. We were the only table there. The did not check on us at all. We had to ask for water to be refilled. When it came time to take food to go, we had to ask for the container, bags, and the right sized containers and the right sized bags. The older woman with the jet black hair was the one who rude and dismissive. When I asked her for a larger bag, she said that was the largest one. I pointed out that we gave them a very generous tip and that I see larger brown bags, but she still did not offer me one. She was very defensive, and said she thought I was referring to a plastic bag. Folks, don't make the mistake of over tipping here. You don't get the service you expect and deserve. Took Mom here for her birthday in March a few years ago. Lunch buffet was mostly yummy. Unfortunately, the roast pork belly wasn't available. Apparently only served on weekends. The fried food languishing under heat lamps were not the best. Too bad usually like the Filipino version of eggrolls but these were chewy, not crispy. The saucy stews and stirfries kept in chafing dishes were much better. Tried the tangy, black pork stew (aka dinuguan or blood stew) which was so yummy over rice. Also liked the munggo stew which I think were seeds or lentils? Again, awesome over rice. There was also a yummy sauteed dish made with assorted veg. The kabocha squash and green beans were delicious but the bitter melon was too bitter for me. Avoided those. Also liked the peanut butter stew but definitely needed to eat with the fermented shrimp paste for an added flavor bomb. The tasty soup was sour and reminiscent of Thai tom yum. Think it was flavored with tamarind. Absolutely loved the lone dessert, a hot and sweet tapioca (pudding/soup/stew?) made a vibrant purple by ube. Be sure to dip deep into the pot for the soft and chewy mochi balls and other fillings. So yummy, actually went back a couple of times for refills. This would be so comforting on a cold winter's day. Strip mall looked lonely and forgotten. Lots of parking. Hardly any stores open. Hardly any stores at all actually. Despite this, Pistahan is nicely decorated on the inside with blue-grey tile walls and plank flooring. Family introduced us to this little gem. There aren't a lot of Filipino buffets in the Bay, so I was happy to give Pistahan a try. They have a good selection of dishes. L O C A T I O N Pistahan is kind of a little in the middle of nowhere in San Leandro, so just follow your navigation assistant. The buffet area in the back with the bar to the right. There's also booths to sit in. B U F F E T You basically come in and you don't have to do the buffet, but if you do, you pay at the counter and then basically pick out a table. Plenty of seating when we arrived at 11am on a Sunday. Note you don't have to do the buffet, you can do a la carte and just order off the menu. But we were specifically here for the buffet. According to my brother, it was about $30 a person. Eep. I should've eaten more but I just couldn't as I was so stuffed from the full sampler plate I got. For drinks you can order, but what's in the buffet is coffee and water. A lot of the dishes were very oily though that's really normal for the cuts of meat used in these dishes, just be forewarned if you're not into oily food. The desserts were a bit sweet for me but they were quite tasty. Now onto the good. The kare kare flavor was actually quite good and rich. The sinigang was deliciously sour. The menudo sang with this savory and sweetness. The dinuguan is a version that I actually enjoyed eating. The pancit malabon with lemon was very satisfying. Also really happy that they had some kind of coffee as we didn't have any breakfast or anything to eat prior to coming to save room for all the buffet food. S E R V I C E They are quite good about clearing up plates and are quite friendly, kind, and attentive. That itself bumps up the rating! O V E R A L L As mentioned, perhaps it was just an off day and/or we came at the wrong time. I again don't particularly crave Filipino food and I do have a sensitivity to garlic (trust me I was quite bloated and suffered, but I knew what I was getting into), but it's a good way to experience it if you've never had it as it covers a variety of items that are typical of the cuisine. I coordinated a Kamayan dinner with friends last Saturday for our 'friendsgivingmas' and ordered some food from here, per our friends' recommendations (and our friends hosted). Everyone kept raving about how tasty everything was! We ordered a half tray of the lumpia (of course), half tray of the salt and pepper shrimp, half tray of the lechon kawali, 12 sticks of pork bbq, 24 pieces of longanisa, and pancit bihon & canton (we had separate small plates for this). The Beef Mechado was the best dish but you can only eat so much of that with garlic rice. My family likes going to buffets. We found this one and decided to give it a try. I read this place is known for their lechon and kare kare. I was excited to taste the kare kare but Found out they don't make it with oxtail. It still tastes ok but I prefer when it is made with oxtail. I was thinking about having chicken caldereta. I'd been meaning to try this restaurant since starting my new job. Stopped in for lunch on lunch hour. I saw beef caldereta on the menu and then opted to have some lumping to go as well. I'm half pinoy and adopted by white people, but I know my filipino food and this was not it. I was shocked that I had to pay extra for rice with this dish. It came out and the dish didn't have any indication it was cooked with tomato sauce. There was no carrots or other vegetable beside big chunks cut up potatoes. The potatoes were not cooked throughly. The were browned on outside but not soft at all. The meat was tough as all get out. Lumping nothing spectacular, and not homemade. (A few days later, I saw the Lumpia Store truck there) I paid damn near $30 two dishes. Well more reason for me to cook at home. This review does not deserve any star at all. Extremely disappointing experience with Pistahan Restaurant. I ordered three dishes through Uber Eats. While the delivery arrived on time, one entire dish was missing from the order. When I called the restaurant to report their mistake, I was shocked by their response. Instead of taking responsibility or coordinating with Uber Eats, I was told that I would need to place a new order and pay again just to receive the missing dish. In other words, I was expected to pay twice for their error. This is unacceptable customer service. Mistakes happen, but how a restaurant handles them matters--and in this case, there was no accountability,and no effort to resolve the issue properly. Expecting customers to reorder and repay because of a restaurant's oversight shows a complete lack of professionalism. I will not be ordering from Pistahan again and strongly caution others. Their crispy pata is perfectly cooked and their Shanghai is a must Everytime we dine-in or take-out (and we always get the 20-piece!) we always appreciate the sauce that comes with it. My girlfriend dined here before few years ago and said the foods were very good but she never got a chance to try their lunch buffet. After many attempts to come here due to our schedule, we finally made it here and I have to say we had an amazing meal here. We got there a little before 11am and I was glad we did because there was also a big birthday party there (Happy Bday to the grandpa!). Even thought there were a big party going on, there were still couple small table left and that's all we need. The staff there were friendly and nice. And once we got our seat we just went for the foods. There were good selection of foods: garlic rice, steam rice and pancit for carb. Some veggie dishes that I forgot the name of. And beef kare kare, grill pork, couple more beef dishes, milk fish, shrimp tempura, and of course lumpia and their famous Lechon. All their foods were fresh and great! But my personal favorite was actual the ube brownie /cake like dessert which I don't know what it call since there were no sign in front of it. The ube dessert was so spongy and right amount of sweet. And the top was crunchy that added texture to it. Both my girlfriend and I were so full from the buffet and it only cost $29.99 each. Pistahan offers a wide selection for their buffet on the weekend so after seeing some of the photos, my wife and I decided to come along with our son and check it out. Coming in we noticed that there were quite a bit of people eating already which made me very happy to see since this is usually a good sign that the food is made fresh. After paying first and being seated, we were off to the races on the buffet. They offer a wide variety of Filipino food that included lechon and a very tasty lumpia. If I have to guess, they have a total of roughly around 20 dishes with soup and desert. Besides the drinks available inside the fridge are charged extra, most of what you see are included in the buffet. I got a little bit of everything since I'm a little new with Filipino food besides your signature dishes but seeing how happy my wife was, I knew this was a good spot to be. Trying a little bit of everything I think this may just be the spot we'll check out from time to time in the future on the weekend. Unlike this place, most Filipino restaurant fails to educate those outside of the community on their dishes and often time an order comes with one protein and rice. As a self proclaimed healthy eater, I really need my greens on these so called "combos". Not having them really turns me away and that's why this spot is great because I get to try everything! I ordered food yesterday, and the rice was raw. I was very upset. For a Filipino restaurant, how do you not know how to cook rice? SMH.

I grew up in Union City and took for granted that there were so many Filipino restaurants, bakeries, grocery stores, etc. Having lived in other parts of the Bay, I've come to know how special that was especially when a craving for comfort food hits. Imagine my surprise when I found that San Leandro also has a number of Filipino restaurants, Pistahan being one of them. It's on my food bucket list to try their lunch buffet, but for now, I've had their lumpia shanghai, lechon kawali, and sinigang. Their lumpia shanghai are delicious and manage to stay super crispy even after they've cooled down. I've ordered these for a couple of potluck gatherings and there are never any leftovers. The lechon kawali is also a hit with a good balance of crispiness and also moist, tender meat. The sinigang, however, was a bit of a letdown - maybe my family's version just primed me for something more sour than what restaurants have to make to appeal to a larger group of people. Today, this restaurant did not meet our expectations. We initially considered the all-you-can-eat buffet but decided on takeout to enjoy by the marina during Fleet Week and watch the Blue Angels' display. Online ordering was chosen to minimize wait times, estimated at under 10 minutes due to the buffet option. However, the wait was substantially longer, exceeding 25 minutes. The restaurant's interior is aesthetically pleasing, but the takeout Kare Kare was disappointing, lacking flavor and substantial ingredients, consisting mainly of sauce. The palabok was adequate but required additional sauce, while the Garlic rice was outstanding. Our dual order of Garlic rice was consolidated. To improve, the restaurant should focus on acknowledging customers upon arrival and including utensils, specifically spoons, with takeout orders, which were requested but not provided, causing inconvenience at the park. My review is not to hurt this business. Please take this review as a tool to improve, so that your business can thrive. We will visit again and try your buffet. I've been wanting to visit Pistahan after reading all the positive reviews on Yelp! I was finally able to make my first visit here on a Saturday morning. I arrived shortly after they opened at 10 am. I opted to try their buffet which is available on the weekends. They had several dishes offered for buffet. I had the following dishes: Pancit Palabok: It was good. The noodles were nicely cooked, but I thought it was a little salty! Dinuguan: It had good flavor. It had lean cuts of pork. Lumpia Shanghai: Good flavor and crispy. Lechon: Nicely seasoned! Sinigang Pork: I thought it was seasoned well, but could have used a bit more tamarind or sour element. Garlic Rice: Very good. Lots of garlic! Grilled Pork Belly: Good flavor! Kare-Kare: Flavor was spot on and the beef was tender! Fried Chicken: It was a little dry and also a little too salty. I would skip it! I had 2 full plates and I tapped out! I was way too full after the 2nd plate! The buffet was over $30. They have water and coffee available. But if you want a soda, you would have to pay extra. I thought the service was friendly and helpful. I had to drive 40 minutes just to try this place. Was it worth it? I'd say it was worth it, just to try it out! Is it worth a return trip? I don't know! Although the food for the most part was good, it wasn't spectacular! There were some misses! If you live near Pistahan, then sure, it is worth a visit! But for me, it may not be.
