OMG. This is definitely one of those hole-in-the-wall places that completely surprises you. We came here because our friend Warren recommended it, and now I understand why. It's tucked away in Oakland in a spot you might easily drive past without noticing. The setup is simple: order at the window, get a vibrating pager, then pick up your food when it's ready. They also have outdoor seating, which is perfect if you're bringing your dog along. They offer all kinds of silog meals, and honestly, before coming here, I thought all silog places were pretty much the same. While standing in line, I had no clue what to order. The special that day was the G Fire Short Ribs, and I kept going back and forth between trying something new or playing it safe. I ended up getting the pork tocino silog, and for the second dish, I almost ordered the spare short ribs. Thank God I got the G Fire Wings instead. OMG. OMG. OMG. These are hands down the BEST wings I've had in the Bay Area. The skin is crispy and crunchy, but the moment you bite in, the meat is unbelievably juicy. Seriously, when do you ever get wings that are actually juicy? Most wings are dry. Not these. The flavor, the sauce, the seasoning--everything is absolutely incredible. It's the kind of food that makes you lick every finger afterward. If it were socially acceptable to eat the bones too, I probably would have. And here's the funny thing: while I was in line, it seemed like everyone ordering was getting the G Fire Wings. Now I know why. If this place were closer to where I live, I'd be here all the time. I'm still thinking about those wings days later. The good news is we go to Oakland at least once a month for hiking and camping, and now Lucky Three Seven is officially part of the tradition. Laughing at the other reviewer who said it's hella hood because it just seemed like an ordinary neighborhood with the take out spot being on a busy street. Anyway, I know why other cultures only have had lumpia when asked if they tried Filipino food lol that is mostly what this spot sells, and wings. They probably have a handful of actual Filipino dishes, but it's not a spot you'd go to if you have a true Filipino cuisine itch like for some dinuguan or kare kare. The cashier is not friendly, just a straight shooter. And you're yelling into a glass which makes it seem hood, but I didn't feel unsafe and I had my toddler with us. They charge per wing and extra for dipping sauces. It seems like they sell out quick too cause one customer left without any and it was only mid afternoon. We ordered the longsilog and coconut adobo. I will say that it was a lot of food for the price which always a bonus. The flavor was also fire! I love the mural of their beloved owner across the street, RIP. Definitely worth a try, but to those who only try lumpia and consider it Filipino food, please venture out and try one of their breakfast plates (silogs) and then try one of the other main dishes. The wings were off the chart: hearty crunch on the outside and tender meat on the inside. The sauce tastes like honey and vinegar -- light and sweet and you come back for more. In a nutshell; Good food, little to no parking, very ghetto. Went to try the sinigang wings but they didn't seem to be selling them anymore (at the time of this review) STILL the wings that they were selling really good. There's a bench or two or a few seats for outdoor dining but probably best to just grab your food and go. Managed to park by the neighborhood close by, though the area made me feel like my tires were going to get taken and what not. Since moving to Oak, I've been wanting to try this spot because it's rare to find good Filipino food just readily available in the area. (Unfortunately I'm not Filipino so I don't get it home cooked either) I didn't realize that they'd sell out of so much, so I'm going to have to give this place another try earlier in the day. This spot popped up on our inKind list, so we decided to stop by for a quick bite before heading to the city. Apparently they opened in 2013 and is one of the best wing spots. It's on Fruitvale Ave, which isn't in the best part of town, but I didn't feel unsafe while we were waiting for our food. It did take about 15 minutes before our order was ready even though it wasn't that busy on a Saturday at 1:30pm. We ordered an XL lumpia and thought it was just an average lumpia. It was a bit dry. The G Fire Wings were soo flavorful and didn't need the sauce that came with it. A little pricey given that it's $2.50 per wing. Definitely worth it with the inKind discount. I saw this place nearby and decided to stop and take a try their wings (which I heard were extremely good). I was a bit disappointed; the skin was slightly overcooked for me and I didn't feel like the sauce or seasoning was anything special. Each wing (though 2/3 pieces of mine were legs) was $2.50 which I guess is not too bad in terms of value. In conclusion, the wings were not bad but it wasn't anything special imo. I think their food is sometimes hit or miss, and definitely was better pre COVID, but I love their wings and often will crave them. We always grab something to go when we're in the area and I'm thankful they accept more than just cash now!! Their lumpia is the biggest miss sometimes because it's not seasoned very well and sometimes overcooked. Costs have gone up pretty decently as well, but I understand since the cost of chicken wings have gone up in cost. There's only street parking and it's difficult to get a good spot sometimes. I've had the chance to try out Lucky Three Seven twice now, and both times I've really enjoyed their chicken wings. They're impressively crispy, even though they're generously coated in a soy sauce-based glaze that's lightly sweet and tangy. I'm not sure if they're meant to be spicy, but there's no heat at all. That said, flavor-wise, they're excellent. The meat itself is juicy and tender. Honestly, the only place I've had wings that are better -- by just a small margin, is Vons. Today was my first time trying their pork Adobo plate and unfortunately, it was a big miss for me. The pork was dreadfully dry. My friends really liked the sour vinegar flavor of the broth the meat was stewed in, but I just couldn't get past the dry texture of the meat. The girl in the front was nice enough but I saw maybe 2 people leave while I was waiting for my food cause nobody was there to greet them or take their order. It took about 20 minutes to get my order of ribs with rice, 1 piece of chicken, and 1 piece longanisa. I loved the longanisa and the wing I had were great. I liked it! Really good! The ribs I don't know, they weren't tender and had an overwhelming taste of soy sauce. It was a generous amount for $22 but I just didn't like it. POST-GAME AND PRE-GAME CAL FOOTBALL MEALS I'll admit the first time I heard about this place is what tragically happened to the owner. Due to that I wanted to come here to support Oakland businesses. Customers who ate here rave about the G Fire wings. The first time I came here was on a Sunday the day after Cal beat Auburn. Also that day was my birthday so I had two things to celebrate. I ordered the G Fire Wings along with two scoops of rice. I also ordered the XL lumpia as that is another item that customers rave. The G Fire Wings hype is real. They're worth ordering. These wings have a texture similar to the Korean chicken wings I ate at two Chinese restaurants in San Francisco. The XL lumpia is long and the pork filling is flavorful. After eating here I noticed the "Special of the Day" consisted of coconut chicken adobo with rice and G-Fire beef short ribs with rice. I knew I had to come back to Lucky Three Seven. The second time I came here was on Saturday October 5. Earlier that day I was at Berkeley (arrived around 3:50 AM) for ESPN College GameDay. I was hoping to order the coconut chicken adobo, but it wasn't available that day. I ordered one of the daily specials that day - pork belly adobo. I have a love-hate relationship with adobo as either it is a hit or miss with me at Filipino parties or restaurants. There are some reasons. I have had some adobos with the broth too soupy or oily. Other times the meat (pork or chicken) is dry and stringy. The adobo I ate at Lucky Three Seven was the pork belly adobo. The broth had that vinegar taste that associates with adobo. Also the broth wasn't too soupy. Most importantly the pork belly was moist. The fat was rendered well enough to eat. The pork belly adobo was one of the few times I've enjoyed eating adobo at a restaurant. The third time I came here was the following Saturday prior to the Cal-Pitt game. I was elated to see that the chicken coconut adobo was one of the specials of the day. The parts for the chicken adobo I had were the chicken wings. Regarding the broth the coconut milk cuts the sharpness of the vinegar. Yet there is still that adobo flavor from that dish. The use of the chicken wings results in a moist meat for this adobo dish. The chicken coconut adobo is the most unique adobo dish I've ever ate. The fourth time I came here was Saturday after the North Carolina State-Cal game. I came here close to 6:00 PM. One of the "Specials of the Day" was the G Fire short ribs with rice. The G Fire short ribs had a different flavor than the G Fire wings - the flavor similar to the short ribs on a Hawaiian lunch plate. The short ribs at Lucky Three Seven are meatier than most of the beef short ribs I've ate from other Hawaiian eateries. Whether before or after Cal sporting events if I am hungry I'll go to Lucky Three Seven. read more

Now here's an example of a place I would've never patronized had I not seen the YouTube videos of two separate local food vloggers, both of whom praised this spot to the skies. Granted I'm not a thirtysomething slacker that uses the word "hella" like five times in the same sentence, but I can appreciate a family-run business focused on the food of their heritage, in this case, Filipino, so I girded my loins. It's on Fruitvale close to 580 and definitely not the most parking-friendly area of Oakland. I found out later that the owner was tragically killed a couple of years ago, but the family has trudged on as it was attracting a lot of regulars when I visited in the middle of the day. There were over twenty choices on their menu, all of them served over rice. You order through a barricaded window much like a bank drive-thru window. Being that this was my first visit, I went with one of their basic plates, the $15 Pork Adobo over Rice.
