We saw this place passing through on the way from Louisiana to Houston. I pulled it up on Yelp and we decided to give it a try. I absolutely LOVE the decor it looks like a 50's style diner. Plenty of places to choose from to sit and relax while you wait for your food. They were very friendly and spoke to us as son as we walked in. I love the fact that they were playing gospel music. The food was really good too and it's served in BIG portions. I'm only rating it a 4 star because in my opinion it needed a tad bit more seasoning. I also had one French fry that wasn't cooked all of the way. I would return if ever in the area. Overall this is a great find.... A hidden gem and a good atmosphere. read more

I are here right as restrictions were beginning to be lifted from the SARS-COV-2 pandemic, and I am sure that impacted my experience. I'd heard from family and reviews here about how awesome it was, so I think my hopes were too high when I walked in, and I feel a little let down. That said, this was a good diner. It had adorable decorations and aesthetic, the friendliest staff I've had in a long time, and great portion sizes. Service was a little slow, but the place was crazy busy and understaffed from the pandemic. The chili cheese fries were awesome with tons of chili and cheese (best part of the meal), the country fried steak was tasty and massive, and the pecan pie was a nice dessert. That said, the burger was overcooked and not that good, and the onion rings needed more flavor. I also got a slice of pecan pie that was a decent dessert. Really wasn't that impressed. Its a cool looking building with a cool old pickup out front. The interior is kinda cool also. But the food was a bit disappointing. I got the BBQ plate. The sausage was the best thing on the plate. The brisket was on the bland side, no visible smoking ring, but it was nearly fall apart tender. The ribs weren't too bad, very tender but also no smoke ring. All of the BBQ seemed to have brown sugar on the rub, which to me is cheating for a bark. read more

During the early part of our road trip, we were going from one family members home to another and were passing through Livingston. We were starving and realized as we passed a Jack in the Box on the opposite side of the road, that we may have missed the turn to all the food options. I brought up the Nearby option on Yelp which told me there was one place a mile away... and that was it... for a really, really long time. Thank God for Yelp, we would have passed them for sure. As you are driving by, it resembles a garage- I probably wouldn't have even looked at the sign! That certainly makes this a last chance oasis for those heading east out of Livingston on 190! I really dig this place and I'm so glad Yelp led me here! The place had an old school diner setup and a super welcoming staff! The décor and atmosphere was fun. They have a specials board by the front door and a really solid lunch menu. We arrived about 10 minutes before the lunch rush and they were about a third full. By the time we were eating, every table was taken. Wow! The servers here are excellent! They work as a team and are very attentive, I would come here for the service alone if I lived in the area. I ordered the chopped beef sandwich with coleslaw and potato salad for $8.95 and my husband ordered the cheeseburger and fries for $7.95. No picture of his because he was hungry, lol. About a minute after our food came, the table next to us received the exact same meals we ordered, down to the sides. For a first visit here, I felt pretty accomplished. If you're ordering like the locals, you're probably in for a treat! The portions and cook were great! This perfectly hit the spot and was a nice break from our road trip. My chopped beef sandwich was huge and filled to the brim! Of course, as soon as I picked it up to take a bite, half of it fell out. I was about to get bummed when I realized it was easier for me to hold and now had the perfect amount for me, lol! So I guess it comes in uber big appetite size and then you cut it down to your preference! :) I found everything to be tasty, and I believe my husband did too, but he wouldn't stop raving about their BBQ sauce! Now, to be honest, I probably wouldn't have tried it on my own because I believe that good BBQ doesn't need sauce and my chopped beef was already seasoned nicely. But who could resist with the person across from you raving like that? So I tried it and I have to say that it's a very interesting and complex sauce with layers of different flavor profiles- starts off sweet, has a little smoke for a sec, a rich boldness towards the end. Sigh, it's very hard to explain, you'll just have to try it. When we were good and full, we asked a server if they bottle and sell their BBQ sauce. She sent out the owner, Franky, who is in the midst of bottling the sauce! He has the permits, the labels and the sauce, just waiting on the bottles to arrive. He was a very sweet man and offered us a big cup of it for free! This seriously made my husbands day- when we arrived at our destination he made everyone in the house try it, lol! I know we're coming back because my husband was complaining last week that we were running low on sauce. I would come just for the down home cooking and great atmosphere! The menu options don't hurt though- I want to compare the pulled pork to their chopped beef, try a burger for myself, check out their jalapeno corn fritters... well, you get the point. Hopping little spot with a rockin AC. Bring a coat. Local flavor for sure. I can't get past the temperature at the moment. Surprisingly big menu selection, smells awesome. So far I recommend. I definitely enjoy the mom and pop atmosphere and decor.onion rings and BLT look awesome. bLT had a good amount of bacon on it. We only saw it, didn't order it. Have I mentioned to bring a coat? We ordered BBQ because that's what they advertised as their specialty, fingers crossed. Not quick, but that's not a bad thing. Food came out and it looks good. Nice portions for sure, we'll need boxes to take left overs home. Everything was really , I had baked potato with brisket, came with two sides, I chose beans and slaw. Both good. So my favorite go to is the hamburger, onion rings and ALWAYS save room for a shake!! Strawberry is my fave for sure food besties!!! A hidden gem right here in Livingston! There isn't much to do in this town (especially when it comes to food). As a vegetarian I was surprised to find that the menu was actually pretty versatile. The dessert are also.. *chef's kiss*. Therefore, this diner was a nice surprise! I only wish they played music. There was only music when I played some on the Jukebox. Stumbled across this on the way home from camping. Fantastic little home grown, all-American diner. Good great. Service great. The server was very personable and eager to offer refills on drinks and whatever else we could possibly need. (She's in high school doing dual credit for collage and is planning to study biology.). She'll do well, I'm sure. Loved the USA loving theme and they are not afraid to give God the glory. They even offer free Bibles. I will never pass that place by again without stopping. We were excited to try this after seeing it on the Texas Bucket List...But alas... it was such a let down... the people were nice...Friendly... but the food they highlighted... the BBQ, was just awful. I feel compelled to let you know how let down we feel...The Pit Row Pit Stop was such a disappointment. The brisket was DRY as cardboard and the Ribs were like jerky that had deep fried. They were shriveled and greasy and just sad. Beef jerky like, and dripping in grease. The sausage was fair, but sad that it was sliced and reheated. (Thinly sliced, w edges crispy charred) It all just felt like reheated leftovers. I even asked ahead of time if I could get moist brisket ... and they didn't know what I was talking about but said they would asked the kitchen. I dunno. It was sorry. I feel so bummed. This is a HITW hidden gem! Hole-in-the-wall place for those text-speak challenged. The place is so BIG for as small as it is! Retro 50's diner like when I was a teen. Juke box. Soda fountain. BBQ place. I got the three meat platter. The sausage was somewhat better than most BBQ places. The problem for it was I was having to compare it to the pork ribs and the brisket. Not a fair battle! The rub on the ribs was outstanding! They were par-cooked JUST RIGHT so they did not dry out when being finished in the smoker. Then another problem arose. BBQ sauce or no? Many places the sauce rescues the meat. Some places the sauce is overbearing in sweetness or vinegar. The problem here is that the sauce is perfectly balanced. This results in the perfect marriage of sauce and meat. Ditto above for the beef! The soda floats are light on liquid and heavy on ice cream! YUM! I am glad I only order 1/2 order of nachos! Still did not finish it. These were a step above normal but not the star of the meal. Once again, my eyes over estimated my stomach capacity! The service was outstanding. Well, as you know, I normally don't review right away, but this a worthy exception to my rule. The service and atmosphere are 5 star quality. It is actually like eating at your best friend's house while his mom cooks dinner. Unfortunately I did not get to try the ribs, and since they were out, I will assume they are great and maybe try them for lunch next time. I had the "Signature" Chicken Fried steak. I would personally change my signature. For the price, the batter was average and plentiful. The steak was ultra well done, not as tough as it was just dry. The fries were fair, and the sweet tea was a little tired. If you know sweet tea, you will know what I mean. Sorry to say Pit Row Pit Stop brunch attempt failed. We overheard Frankie Vinci, owner tell people in front of us in line that this was their 2nd week buffet trial run to see if they can handle having a buffet with the full menu next week. I suggest eliminating the buffet because while the catfish was good, it would have been better fresh from the kitchen instead of in a buffet dish getting cold. Their new cold slaw recipe was too sweet. Their pulled pork was swimming in barbecue sauce, so I didn't try it. My husband tried it, saying it should never be in the barbecue sauce that was mediocre sauce. My sliced carrots and corn were cold while my husband enjoyed his hot green beans, so not everything was cold. I did enjoy the cherry pie and tasting my husband's berry pie. Not a very polite group of ladies. We had loaded fries and they taste horrible unless you like over done can chili. Also had loaded baked potato and loaded nachos the bbq tasted like it has been over cooked or been setting out. It was horrible! Topped it off with a milkshake...thinking how do you mess up a milkshake? Well we got it and they had to remake it because it had to much milk and runny. My business partner and I needed SOME GOOD BBQ and being from out of town I had no idea where to begin. So let my buddy direct me to a place and we ended up pulling into the 1950's. The moment we got out of the car we could smell the sweet aroma of REAL smoking taking place. There's a difference between that quick smoking meat smell, and the almost palpable flavor in the air. But I was honestly not expecting this warm atmosphere via the incredible detailed decor and enjoyable employees to also have some of the best BBQ I've had in such a long long time.
