When I think of a Pit Stop, I am certainly not thinking of food. But, it makes sense that this is named a pit stop, which after a long journey or hours of walking, you stop to take a moment to refuel, grab a bite, or a quick restroom break. The ambaince certainly makes me feel like I am disneyland Cars Land. And it is a place you get get a variety of food, from a stack of pancakes to a BLT, any time of the day. So, I would recommend it for the purpose of a pit stop, I cannot rave about what to order because they dont seem to focus on one dish. But, the salad, the coffee and the burger we order, was all top notch. So head on over to the pit stop, and don't over think the menu, you might be pleasantly surprised. So getting a custom exhaust system installed I had a few hours to look for a place to eat in East Oside. Seen this place opened and decided to give them a try as most places around here are closed. No, I didn't Yelp 1st. Got lucky as this long time local favorite eatery was very good. I got one of their breakfast burritos and hash browns. WOW. Very large portions and tasty too. Scrumptious! Bring your appetite as portions are big and worth every bite. We had the BLT, 3 egg burrito with sausage, and fried zucchini. We started off with the fried zucchini, which was hand breaded, spices that leave you wanting more, and fresh Zucchini slices ... this was not frozen and heated up, it was handmade. The BLT was big, bread was toasted, bacon freshly made. The burrito was really good, breakfast sausage, plenty off egg, hash browns fresh off the grill, and cheese. The food here is really good, it was full inside the restaurant, but everyone was getting their orders quickly and the employees are super friendly & very accommodating. This remains one of my absolute favorite local restaurants...I'm lucky to live in a community oriented area with some of the greatest local dining establishments that you never knew existed in Oceanside! One of the coolest places I can always take my kids to and never hear "I'm bored!" or "When do we get our food?" is Pit Stop Diner. It's high quality fast food meets sit down restaurant in a culmination of awesomeness that will make you feel like you've been transported back to an old school 50's diner. The gorgeous car in the middle of the restaurant likely adds to the aesthetic of the place, and there are license plates from every state in the Union adorning every wall of the restaurant. It's a fantastic place to take your kids if you want your food in a hurry, and they've got breakfast options available all day long, too (I recommend their epic breakfast burrito, the Wreck...because it's an entire breakfast swaddled in a tortilla of YES!!!) If you're looking for traditional, there's always your classic burgers...and some they've created themselves. It can be on the greasy side sometimes, so if you're watching calories, you'll spend about a week's worth here. That's okay though...it's totally worth it...just hit the gym an extra hour or so next week, haha! In all seriousness though, the food is delicious, it's inexpensive for a LOT of food, and they even have a family deal where you can get 4 burgers, 4 fries, and 4 drinks for a really sweet deal. The staff are always incredibly happy, you can customize your order any way you'd like to, and you can order your food to dine in or take out. Another caveat for all you hardcore Yelpers out there...If you order through your registered card on Yelp, you'll get money back on your order. The burgers taste just like Angelo's. And I really like Angelo's. The fried zucchini is not good. I love fried zucchini, and I could not gather the motivation to finish my order. Onion rings and fried mushrooms were good. The turkey wrap used a low quality deli meat for the turkey. Bummer, because the rest of the ingredients meshed well together and this could have been an amazing wrap. The ranch tastes home-made. I didn't ask if it was. I do not like the tables. Using rims as the center pole means that there is no leg room. I don't like high-tabled tables either. Ugh I sound so old. My husband was not a fan, but I'd eat here again. read more

I've eaten here maybe 4 times in the past decade. Two of those times were in the past year via Doordash. It's cheap food that's nearby. However, both of my delivery orders were missing an entire entree or more. The food is mediocre at best, inedible at its worst. I can't believe this place stays in business. Picture happy days meets route 66. Order from a line and they bring it to your table. Sadly, could do so much better with diner food. This part just passes, and you so want it to be better than it is. Speaking to a burger and onion rings,and rootbeer float 2 stars . You can get same or better anywhere. Besides the prices going up, the food quality has gone down- the side salad is ice berg lettuce with 2 pieces of cucumber and 2 pieces of tomato. My BLT wraps went from 4$ to over 7$! The onion rings are not seasoned...and the batter is dense now. The fries used to be cajun. The coffee used to have a really nice flavor, and now the roast is crap. There's no syrups..they filled the holder with sugar jars. It used to be fun to be my own barista. I could have lived with the new up-charge for switching out the fries for rings if the other things were still ok. I ate some of them even though they look and taste like crap now. I have been a customer since 2012. I am trying to hang on through the ownership change, but I miss the old Pit Stop. read more

Cute place. Lots of vintage signs, cars and other stuff. The diner is quite large and there is plenty of seating, whether you want to sit low to the ground or higher up at a bar-height table. The food was tasty - as tasty as breakfast diner food can be. They also serve other things besides breakfast (but we have not tried yet): burgers, sammiches, wraps and an assortment of Mexican food (tacos, burritos, etc) that seems kind of out-of-place here. My only complaint is the lack of BEER on the menu. Granted, who drinks beer for breakfast? For a quasi-fast food diner, it's pretty decent. So have your expectations set realistically. This is not a novelty or cutesy 50s diner you find in downtown settings, like a Johnny Rockets. It's a local neighborhood joint for a quick meal while on the run. I do drop by now and then for breakfast or lunch. The quality depends on what dish you order. I've had very good burgers and sandwiches. Today I ordered the chicken breast salad, although salads are not what this diner is known for. It was OK, and I did enjoy it. Been here before but not for breakfast. Food is decent and prices are very reasonable, actually in the cheap side. Today I tried the French Toast which was quite tasty. The only issue I had was with the scrambled eggs. Those babies were cooked to the point of being very dry. I've heard the term "scrambled hard" before but never had them. I think I did today. Tried this local diner for the first time tonight. Decor was eclectic & thematic. Menu was huge...too huge to stand at the counter & figure out what to order. Good thing there wasn't a line. I got the 3 pc fish dinner which came with fries, onion rings, zucchini fries & salad. The salad came with the dinner, with the rest of my hot food so I had to eat it while my food got cold. Then to finish it off, the fish was over-cooked, the French fries were cold and the onion rings & zucchini fries were bland, with no seasoning, not even salt. My husband ordered a chili cheese melt & a side of fries. His food all came to the table cold. There was shredded cheese on the chili & it wouldn't even melt. So this time around I ordered a crazy wiener (or should I say hot dog) - the Mushroom & Swiss Dog and a side of fries - $5.54. The employee that took our order was really patient with my co-worker and I. Since there are no descriptions of the different wieners, I asked him about 5 different dogs. The employee took the time to look them up and inform us of the different variations. I opted for the M&S. He did say it was pretty good and my baby bro liked it, so sure why not? Orders came out fairly quick and they delivered the orders to you. Brought it back to the office and found the wiener was actually pretty big. In fact, I didn't even finish my fries. I actually prefer the dogs here over the burgers (patties are thin), but then again I haven't tried the 2x2 or 4x4. My co-workers ended up with the Junkyard dog and that was HUGE! If you're on a budget and want some decent food from milkshakes to chicken wraps this is a great place to eat. I think this place will be here for years because the food is great, they serve breakfast all day and the decor is pretty cool. It's usually pretty busy on the weekends so you been warned ! This is a small business so try to use cash so they don't take a big hit. Some of my favorites are the milkshakes, the burgers are alright, the prices and the location. So cute! I never grew up in the 50's but I totally felt like I was there! The prices are so low and the hours are amazing. 6:30 AM - 11 PM 7 Days a week. I stopped in here yesterday and this is what I bought: Bacon Avo Cheese Burger 3.20 I made it a combo which included fries and a drink for an extra 2.50 so at this point I have only spent 5.70 for a meal. In edition I ordered Zucchini Fries 2.80 and a Vanilla Milkshake 2.65 With Tax my bill came out to under 14.00 bucks not bad at all for all the food. Not only was the food cheap but it was hot and fresh! The Cashiers were nice and attentive and the place was super clean! I love hoe there are hundreds of license plates and even a full car in the middle of the floor! Kudos to this place and it will be on my list of a cool place to take people when in town! read more

Really simple, No Tomatoes for my order and what do they do! ? Put tomatoes on my turkey burger. I finally stopped ordering from the internet. I went inside to order and when I got home guess what happened? Tomatoes on my burger. I stopped and took the order back to the store. No more for me. This place was awesome when my wife and I found it and decided to try it. The food was ever so delicious, quick and staff was so friendly. Been going here for the past 8 months and it has drastically gone down hill. The prices continue to go up and up, the staff turn over is very high. About every 2-3 weeks there's a whole new crew, hardly any familiar faces. But its at the point I'm tired. 8 times, yes 8 times in a row, my order has been wrong. It can be missing items on the order, or something as simple as cheese and ketchup only on a burger they can't get right. I can tell them, they repeat the order, its still wrong. I order only, put it in the instructions, and its still wrong. When you can have allergic reactions to somethings put in the food, and they still blatantly ignore it, I'm done. 8 times is more than enough attempts to try and let them right it, but the turn over is so high, no one can ever correct a problem, when their gone before its fixed. I would say it was a good experience, but its no longer worth the hassle, or the ever climbing prices, to still not get what you order. read more

Let me start by saying that I don't often post reviews but when I do it's because I either feel very passionate about how good the place or how bad. Let me tell you about my two experiences here and you can judge whether you still want to give them a chance or not. The first time I went I ordered a turkey burger. I took my order to go and when I got home I had to throw out the entire burger because the meat was expired. My mouth could tell immediately after the first bite! I had to spit it out and then I smelled the patty and it smelled foul even though it was cooked. How could the cook have chosen to cook a patty that I'm sure smelled horrible when cooking. I did not call them because I figured what good would that do if I would have to drive back and get another burger with expired meat. Went back to give them a second chance this time my bad experience started before I even ordered. I arrived at the counter and the gentleman was on his phone and made me stand there like I was waiting to take his order rather then the other way around. He never acknowledge me and I had to stand there with him just ignoring me. So not only to they have bad food but horrible customer service! read more

Wowza! I'm so excited about the Pit Stop I was there three times in two weeks!! I have to slow down so I won't kill it, but it's definitely worth everyone trying. It's openly visable on the corner of Mission and El Camino. I pass it twice a day and I've been meaning to try it out for a while. The stars just didn't align until two weeks ago when I finally had the chance to pop in for a quick dinner. First off, I was almost disappointed. Please note, I said ALMOST. I was expecting a proper diner with a waiter/ess to take my meal. I was skeptical when I had to walk up to the counter an order, but I didn't let it deter me. The menu is typical diner fare, but it also has breakfast items (served all day, I believe) and an extensive hot dog menu. Not my thing, but it's creative just the same. We placed our order, took a number and headed to one of the many automobile themed tables. Dinner came out quickly, but more importantly, it was delicious! We had the Pit Stop burger, fries, grilled cheese (on sourdough), fried mushrooms and fried zucchini. All of it was piping hot and SO GOOD. I was immediately impressed and we went back two days later, and then again last weekend. The burgers are great, so are the wraps, and even the breakfast omlettes are phenomenal. So far, I haven't noticed one bad thing about the Pit Stop, and I'll be happy to swing by there every week when it's in the budget. They're affordable and have great portions for the price, so it's definitely worth checking out, and more than once if you live within 15 minutes for sure. Came here for lunch on 5/19 with my husband. The decor here is pretty cool. You order first and then the employees will bring out your food. My husband ordered the burger with zucchini fries. The zucchini fries were really good. Didn't even need ranch with it. I didn't try the burger but my husband enjoyed his burger. Me on the other hand, I didn't enjoy my food. I ordered the pancake combo with a side of hash browns. The pancake looked like it was going to taste great but it was very rubbery and not fluffy at all. It was hard to cut through it. Eggs and sausage were fine. No extra charge for egg whites. My hash browns had an odd taste. Not even ketchup could make it taste better. Only reason I give this place 3 stars is because the decor, my husband enjoyed his food, and the zucchini fries taste good. We will not return though. read more
