Hadn't been here in several years. I will say the veggies are fresh and all the sauces are still delicious. I was struggling to justify $11 for a pita sandwich and $15 by the time you add a fountain drink. But the biggest issue I had was the gyro meat texture is definitely different. Got the platter so it comes with Jerusalem salad (tomatoes and cucumbers), hummus, and tabbouleh. Falafel- crisp on the outside and warm on the inside. Great flavor and especially nice with a creamy light dip. Lentil soup - brothy warm soup - needed a little more flavor but great on a rainy day. Service - kind, professional, and efficient. Cleanliness- All employees wore masks and mitigated COVID well (March 2021). Hand sanitizer was available. Glass barrier separates food and staff from the guests. Felt very safe and clean. A friend told me about this spot a year or two ago. She said this is one of the more authentic options in the city. I ordered online and came for pickup. Weird parking situation! It's right off the busy street, which was a little bothersome to get to. Take your time around here. It's easy to miss the turn. I ordered a gyro. It was ready when I got there. Yum! I'm not sure how I've lived so close to the Pita Hut for so long and never visited, but I fixed that this weekend! It's a small, kind of run down looking store front in a kind of run down looking strip mall with a tiny parking lot directly off of high street. Step in to about 5 small tables/booths and directly to the order counter. The first thing you see is the salad and topping case, and it's just, wow. I went at lunch time on a Saturday and there were big piles of crunchy, juicy looking salads - Tabbouleh, cucumber, cauliflower, eggplant, hummus, baba, etc. It was hard to chose! I had the veggie platter with pita, hummus, tabbouleh, and cucumber salad, and a side of fries. The man working the counter put the fries down fresh and they were worth waiting for, with crunchy outsides and ends, and a soft inside! So good! The salads were fresh and tasty, and the hummus very smooth, with a little hot sauce up top. All were very good. The cauliflower is not breaded and fried, just fried, and with the other veggies makes for a tasty and reasonably healthy salad. I'm talking pillow-soft pita stuffed with fresh veggies and lip-smacking sauce. I immediately regretted only ordering one. I should have ordered at least a dozen. I could have sat on my porch all day eating that sandwich! I'd also had a side of the lentil soup and it was just okay. This place was a first for me I ordered my food to go, but did notice they do have a few seats if you decide to eat there. Its not the biggest of places and I'm not a fan of the parking the lot is real small and hard to move around. As soon as you walk in they have a glass case with fresh ingredients you can see them preparing your food which is a plus for me. I've tried a few Mediterranean places and this one is one of my favorite places because of flavor. I ordered food to go and am very pleased. I ate here one other time and it was very tasty. This time I ordered the gyro and spinach pie. The gyro is big but not huge, which is great because I normally overeat with gyros. I wasn't sure what to expect with the spinach pie but it is spinach, lemon juice, and olive oil wrapped in a fluffy Pastry shell and very good. The reason I'm not giving them a 5 is o oh because there isn't anything special about the gyro. Maybe if they had a special sauce or pita bread I would be more apt to eating here more often. For just under $17 I got the lamb meat platter which included about 1c of relatively tender flavorful lamb chunks and 3 small sides. The tabbouleh side was more bitter than I am used to. The cauliflower and eggplant sides each were surprisingly absolutely fantastic with tons of carmelized onions and nice greasy cauliflower or eggplant. It came with a rather tough pita pocket and two very small tbsp-sized containers of mystery sauce which could have been a watery bland tzatziki? The platter was said to come with either hummus or baba ghanoush however despite choosing baba none of either was included in my meal which sucks. I first ate Pita Hut when, well, when else, when I made a trip next door to Bob's Bar. They were right fucking there. My expectations were not high the first time. After all, I simply needed something for my empty stomach. The menu is mostly cheap so good drunken food. It's amazing how good but cheap Pita Hut is. It has a good selection of Mediterranean favorites. This place has some of the best hummus in Columbus. It's got enough lemon without it being sour. The baba ghanoush is also creamy and spicy. I also like the eggplant salad. The cauliflower salad is also another option. I also am a big fan of the falafel. The entrees come in the sandwich, combo, or the platter. A falafel sandwich is about $5. The combo comes with fries and it's about $8. It's really good fries too. The platter comes with bread and two salads and it's about $10. It's a big ass meal. The falafel and veggie platter is very tasty, but not only that, it's also pretty cheap too. It's so good for absorbing the alcohol. The inside is pretty small, so plan on take out. I probably would not have been here if I had not checked out the bar. They recognize they are able to get a lot of business from it, so they stay open late, and I hardly ever leave still hungry. We were driving all around CBus trying to find a relatively healthy lunch, but with one problem, it was Easter. Finally we stumbled upon this spot, which is open on all holidays, kudos to them. That's probably the reason I'm leaving a 2 instead of a 1, they get a convenience bump. The food was relatively tasteless. The best part of the Shawarma platter was the cucumber, tomatoes, and the bread. That's probably not what you want to be the best tasting feature of your platter. The hummus was perfectly fine. The gyro was average, but still bland. Spiced it up with some delicious pickles though. This brings us to the "Lentil Soup" they have advertised everywhere inside. I wouldn't feed it to my dog, not only because we never feed our dog people food, but because the Lentil Soup was offensively bad. It was brought in from the back and heated up in a microwave, which was the first hint of what was to come. It looked bad, and tasted worse. I freaking love Lentil soup and by no means am I picky (in most anything I eat). I've had miso soup with more body and substance to it than this lentil soup. Actually, it reminded me more of miso soup than it did lentil soup. It was literally water/broth.. until you swish it around... and then got cloudy and appeared to have substance. Anyways, if you are in Clintonville(an otherwise great foodie area) AND you are hungry AND it isn't one of the major holidays, I recommend going literally anywhere else. I just finished inhaling my lamb pita, and oh man was it delicious! The meat is so flavorful and juicy, and the veggies and toppings are so fresh and crisp! Everything fits perfectly into the little pita packet, so it's very satisfying to munch on and is the perfect amount of food. The hummus isn't my favorite (it's very thin and smooth if you like that) but those french fries are to die for. We haven't had great experiences in the past picking up food here (it not being ready and poor communication to the customer) so we did delivery this time and it was just fine, came in half an hour which is what they promised. I decided to give the Pita Hut and Grille a try since a friend had recommended it. I was so disappointed and upset at the amount of money I spent to try their food. The chicken shawarma platter was very dry and tasted terrible I could not eat it, feed it to the dogs. I also got a chicken shawarma sandwich, very little meat that was also dry, I threw it away. I got my grandson a lamb gyro he said it was not the best he had ever had and there was more bread then meat, but not to get him another one. I ordered 4 meat pies, disgusting I do not know what the meat was or how it was prepared, it had a very strange taste and texture I had to spit it out or vomit. However the Baba Ghannoug was good, and hummus was a bit soupy. Jerusalem salad was just unripe tomato, cucumber and I think maybe a sprig of parsley, no onion as most Jerusalem salad are made with.
