This is an actual camp store at the Carlsbad Campgrounds. If you're looking for fine dining, this is not the place. However, it's awesome for many other reasons. The food quality and menu is far better than your average beach shack. My wife and I love to split a fresh made pizza and salad, then grab drinks from the shop window next door. [Note: they also have fries and tater tots, which are the ultimate beach snacks by my standards.] The staff is laid back and you can't beat dining at a picnic table with a salty sea breeze. Better yet, they have live music regularly and evening light shows that make it fun for the whole family. Pro Tip: Parking is limited so carpool if you can. If the lot is full you can park at the nearby shopping center and it's a short walk to the entrance. read more

This is an experience unlike anything I've ever encountered and not for the good. The food is adequate, store is overpriced for the convenience it offers, but customer service, management (Bree), and Ownership (Anthony) are atrocious. They kicked out my family (including 4 year old daughter and 1 year old son who literally had food in their hand) on a Wednesday night that was more than half empty well before any music started. However, they let us first buy a round of drinks for 4 adults before kicking us out due to the "no outside food" policy. So with 4 full drinks purchased from them and our "outside food" from camp, they let us walk away with drinks in hand right past the sign that says "no alcohol beyond this point." So you're willing to sell me alcohol, then kick me out with drinks in hand to where alcohol is not allowed because I brought food from my campsite?? It gets better. Bree (the manager?) offers me Anthony's phony number who is apparently the owner. I call Anthony and explain the situation and express my frustration. The very first thing he says is "well you shouldn't grab women like that!!" Wait.... What?!? At this point I'm beyond perplexed and said "what are you taking about?!" He says "Bree said you grabbed her!" I laughed and said "sir, I have 6 people who were there, plus however many other patrons that can attest that at no point anyone was grabbed." Then he says "well she said you shook her hand firmly!" In this real life?! I get kicked out, then accused of "grabbing" the manager which quickly back peddled into "shaking her hand firmly." At this point, I realized I was dealing with people who have zero sense of savvy, customer service and fabricate lies to change a situation. They're fortunate to have the luxury of good location. Located anywhere else it would be a dumpster fire. Myself, nor my family or friends will ever spend another dollar here. Will that hurt them? Probably not, but if this review prevents one person from the same experience, then it's worth it. read more

My first time visiting the Carlsbad Camp Store, and here is my general recap. Located on the premises of South Carlsbad State Beach campgrounds, it is open to all. This is an outdoor-only venue offering food and drinks for purchase. They have an amazing variety of pizzas for such a small place, as well as good choices of local beer on tap. I got the sense that the crowd is mostly locals who enjoy visiting for the live music, the overall atmosphere (or 'vibe') and the sunset views. Lots of seating areas that fill up very quickly; most of the seating is first-come, first-served, but there are some tables you can reserve. Besides pizzas and drinks, there is a full convenience store that sells all the necessities. Parking is very limited next to the Camp Store so mostly people park outside of the park on the street. We enjoyed the last day of their Halloween light show, which was pretty cool. I understand that next month there will be a Christmas lights display. My only suggestion is that they provide some form of heating for the colder months. read more

It was unprofessional. **********TO THE OWNER******* Your response actually proves my point. I had a reservation confirmation that had been approved months in advance. When I arrived, other guests were already seated at the table that had been confirmed for my reservation. I didn't reserve a "Blufftop" table I reserved the table that your manager confirmed and reassigned to me. Had someone simply apologized and acknowledged the mistake, this likely wouldn't have become an issue. Instead, you chose to publicly call my review "ridiculous" and "nonsense" while dismissing my experience. This was never about being "five feet away." It was about a confirmed reservation not being honored and the lack of accountability afterward. I completely support accommodating guests with special needs, but that doesn't excuse failing to honor a confirmed reservation or responding to a customer with insults instead of professionalism. What a great addition to South Carlsbad campgrounds. The owner refurbished the old camp store during the pandemic and makes this a great destination for snacks, pizzas, craft beer (draft and cans) and live music. Plus they have light shows during the holidays. The area is great for families, kids and even dogs on leash. We love that we can walk from our neighborhood. Have been dying to check out the live light shows for about a year now and finally made it to the camp store on a Sunday night, just past high tourist season. Let me start by saying I have put this on the back burner for so long because the parking situation is not ideal, but after going last night, it's not that bad. It helps if you have small kiddos to do a drop off and park if you can and it's a short, safe walk near the Ralphs for street parking. The light show was SO awesome! The songs were all on theme with Halloween and the pumpkins sang to the songs perfectly timed. It's also fun that the set plays on a loop, so if you miss one you can see it again! The line for food was on the slowish side and we did end up waiting 30+ minutes for pizza and chicken wings, but it was really busy. I was surprised by the size of the items for the price point, my $12 frozen margarita was on the snack size, the pizza was just enough for 2 maybe three and six chicken wings with a few slices of carrot and celery for around $57 but was happy to support a local biz. Next time I'll probably opt for a salad and the cheese curds that our table neighbor shared with us were delicious and huge portion! I also got so in the camp mood that I purchased a s'more kit to take home for the backyard- some wooden sticks, graham crackers, marshmallows and Reeses peanut butter cups were all available at the store. The store was stocked with cute trinkets, merch, toys, snacks, ice cream, drinks and typical camping stuff (bug spray, sunscreen, blankets, shoes, ect.) Let's talk about the location! This is absolutely the dream for beach camping location IMO. I have now added it on the list to try to get a spot at some point because falling asleep to the ambiance and sound of the crashing waves is a dream! I did see coin showers, and there were toilets part of the state park that I didn't venture to check out, but there were none near the store. Very cool outdoor spot to grab pizza and a drink while listening to live music by the beach! Pricing was reasonable and most beers, wines, and hard ciders were $5-6. There were a good variety of pizza ($15+) and ~10 options, as well as appetizers like tots and fries ($5+). Service was very friendly and welcoming. There is only outdoor seating and seating is very limited! Be sure to come early during the weekends because it gets very crowded! If there is a line to order, be prepared to wait ~30 minutes for your food, especially the pizza! However, the pizza is worth the wait! Ordering is easy- you order at the window and you give them your phone # and they text you when your order is ready. There is a gift store attached to the restaurant and it has a lot of cool souvenirs! The Surfsquatch ($18) was very delicious and had plenty of pepperoni, bacon, sausage, and mozzarella! Super fresh and flavorful without being too salty! I'm usually not a big fan of crust but their crust is super crispy and good! Wish the pizza was bigger but other than that, very yummy! This was 8/10 Tater tots ($6) were ok, nothing too special. They were crispy and they give you a lot! Not too salty or greasy so it was not bad. This was 7/10 Ashland Mango Strawberry Hard Seltzer ($5.57) was ok, not as fruity and sweet as I was expecting but it wasn't too bad. This was 7/10 Seaborn Passion Guava Hard Seltzer ($5.57) was very good. Slightly sweet and fruity but had a small kick to it! Very refreshing and delicious! This was 8/10 Enjoyed listening to the free live band performing! It would have been more enjoyable if it was less crowded and more seating with shade. Lucky to have booked a fire pit ahead of time since this place really fills up but lots of bench seating and tables, as long as you get there early. Came here during the Jurassic park pop up event. Wow. What a cool spot! In the camp store you'll find all the merch and essentials you'll need while camping. What wow'd my husband and I the most about this store was the pizza. Do not sleep on the pizza. I repeat... do NOT sleep on the pizza!! Why was it so good? Not sure. But it was pure magic haha. Melt in your mouth type of pizza. There's plenty of picnic tables outside with an ocean view. Shout out to the amazing workers here who kept us fed during this busy event! They were friendly and kind. I appreciate their customer service. 10 out of 10 recommend the camp store. The only downside can be parking. We came for the Dino experience and it was absolutely amazing. The kids thought it was the most amazing thing. We made reservations online to ensure we got a table. $15 not bad! The experience its self is free. Parking is horrible though. We parked at Ralph's down the hill and walked the bridge over. We ordered pizza, cheese curds and fries. 5 kids lol. went in the cute gift shop after. We spent 2+ hours and it was such an amazing afternoon. The view over the bluff was breathtaking. This review is technically for Jurassic Beach that is right in front of the camp store. Super cute concept to have animatronic dinosaurs displayed near the beach. But boy was the logistics annoying to view this. Parking is at the structure for Cape Rey hotel and you need to walk across the street and through the campgrounds to get to Jurassic Beach. That walk is longer than the dinosaur displays, so just have that expectation set, because we didn't and were disappointed. It was really crowded and difficult to navigate around. The kids somewhat lost interest after the first few dinosaurs because they ultimately just did similar things with showing their mouths/teeth, craning their heads, and making dinosaur roars. You also need to spend $15 at the camp store (or you can reserve a table for $15 for 2 hours). What was annoying as well was that while the sign said first 4 hours of parking was free when we left (after less than an hour) the machine wanted us to pay $10 so we had to call the help button and wait to be buzzed out. read more

The pizza parlor attached to the camp store was 10 out of 10 so delicious the only thing it was pretty busy so the wait for food was about 45 minutes to an hour which was OK because they text you when your order is ready in case you want to hang out or go back to your campsite. Highly highly highly recommend this location and campsite. There is also a lot of seating there are chairs and benches, which is really nice. I went the next morning in the corner they have the location where you can buy tokens for the showers ! read more

This is our family's favorite place to spend a late afternoon evening. In the summertime, they have live music (schedule posted) of all different genres. They have beer on tap as well as inside the store in their fridge, along with different ciders, kombucha, soda, etc. Their pizzas are truly delicious and my kids are obsessed with the cheese curds. Apparently, they'll start serving sandwiches soon which I'm excited about. It can be dangerous walking through their store with children - too many toys that you'll be tempted to buy because you're in too good a mood. They have a little freezer with ice cream bars, too. Of course the views are also epic. They're currently featuring several animatronic dinosaurs that the kids are obsessed with. During the different holidays, they always decorate all out. Cons: no parking (a lot of people park at Ralph's and walk over). Gets super packed with people on weekends so can be a lack of seating (people bring camping chairs). Lines and waits can be long sometimes. I should probably go ahead and buy a Camp Store hat or sweatshirt. We're there often enough that this is definitely our local hang at this point. read more

What a find. This place has great food and the view is even better. We ate here at sunset on a Thursday evening from 450-540 and it was 80% full. The service was friendly and nice. The Wisconsin taters were amazing and so were the garlic taters. My wife ate the arugula vegetarian pizza was amazing even better than the Hawaiian pizza. The ambiance was amazing, even more so since this is in a campground. So the real issue is parking. There are three ways to park to eat here: 1. Camp here, 2. Find one of the 5 free parking spaces empty (but you can only stay for like 45 minutes), and 3. Park at the Ralph's shopping center about an 8-10 minute walk up the street. The Camp Store in Carlsbad is a must-visit during the holiday season! They host a FREE Halloween & Christmas light show. The lights are beautifully done and the music is great. If you're nearby, it's definitely worth a visit with family or friends. The show lasts a full hour there's a 5 minute break and then it starts again! My daughter loves it! Food-wise, the pizza was delicious - definitely try it if you're there! That said, ours took an hour and a half to be ready. I'm not exaggerating! We ordered before the light show started thinking we had 30 min to eat before it got dark and the show started AND ended before we had any food. Be prepared for a wait if they're busy. I was looking for places to eat in Carlsbad with a view. This place does not disappoint! Yes, it is at the Carlsbad campground. Therefore the parking is a mess! You do get 45 minutes to park and there are only 5 parking spots. I came on a Thursday around 4pm. By 430 pm there were no more spots to park. My hubby came after me and had to park at Ralph's which is about a 8 minute walk. I think it is worth it. The place is a gem. There are plenty of outdoor seats. There are some cute lifeguard chairs you can sit on too. The view of the sunset was amazing. There was a guitarist that played music to add to the romantic vibe. All the staff were very helpful and nice. Our order was promptly confirmed via text. It was ready within 15 minutes. We ordered 1 Hawaiian pizza. It was your standard Canadian pineapple pizza. 4/5. I got the Palomar pizza. It was so good! The crust was crispy. The Mission figs and arugula along with the goat cheese mixed so well! 5/5. The Wisconsin cheese bites were also another fan favorite. 5/5 they offered free ranch and marinara on the side. Yum! The taste tots were crispy and not too salty. 5/5. The setting is nice, up on a bluff overlooking the Pacific. I went with my daughter and grandson on a Thursday night and it took us over 20 minutes to find a place to sit. There was live music which was nice. When we ordered, we were told the wait time was 30 minutes for our food (2 small pizzas and chicken strips with tater tots). It was okay because it was clear that it was going to take us a long time to find a place to sit anyways! We got lucky and finally got a table, then we waited. And waited and waited and waited! They have a system in which they text you when your order is ready. I went to check on the order after a whole HOUR had passed (with a 3 year old to entertain!). She told me that the pizza oven had a problem and had to be restarted or something like that. Since they had everyone's phone number, it would have been nice for them to let everyone who was waiting know that there was a delay, and give them the choice to go some somewhere else. When I checked on the order, I was assured that ours was the "#1 ticket). I then sat and watched as 3 or 4 other families picked up their orders! Finally after an hour and a half after ordering, our order was ready. The pizza was good, the chicken strips and tots were....what you would expect! It seems like a lot of people gather there and hang out at a table for hours and hours. So, while it's a nice view, and the pizza is pretty good, I don't think I'll be returning. Would have been nice if those who waited a whole hour longer than they were told they would have to wait were compensated in some way (even 25% off on your next visit). read more

I have been going to this camp store since i was a baby, it's a family tradition. When they changed the camp store no one was angrier than me. It is hardly a "camp" store. It is a space for locals to listen to live music leaving no room for the actually camp experience. They got rid of shaved ice, souvenirs, toys, good snacks and an overall good vibe. I think it is 1 million times worse than before, this new store is not even close to mediocre. I hope it gets better and becomes a nicer space for campers and children, not carlsbad locals who want to listen to music and drink beers. read more
