The two stars are for the server and the looks of the place. We sat in the courtyard and thought it would be nice as it gave an outdoor feel while being inside during 30 degree weather. There is renovation happening in the building and people were moving stuff which was fine. What wasn't fine was the fact that they kept leaving a door open and there was a cold draft coming in the whole time after we got out food. The food itself was not really warm when it was served. The quality of the food wasn't that great either. The hash browns and French toast were dry and the pancakes had no taste even with blueberries added. We went because of the good reviews but were highly disappointed. read more

I am giving this one the benefit of the doubt. It was a crazy busy day in Chicago. It was St. Patrick's Day on a Saturday and we tried to find a place that wasn't too busy after seeing the river turn green. We wandered into this place. It was busy. Service was pretty bad and food was mediocre. We may give it a try again when they are not super busy. I don't think the staff was used to the amount of people that they were serving and they were all overwhelmed. The building is very cool. This cafe is tucked away in the beautiful historic Pittsfield Building. We found this by accident after passing on the 2hr wait for breakfast at wild berries. We were promptly greeted and seated with a smile. Our waitress was so genuinely pleasant and attentive. The prices are reasonable and the portions very generous. You can dine inside or "outside". If possible ask for the outside seating which puts you in the lobby of the building and gives you an opportunity to enjoy the interior deco design of the building. The mimosa and Bloody Mary were a great addition to our meal. The mimosa had a fresh strawberry and the Bloody Mary was topped with celery, carrots, cheese and meat. Great presentation for both. This spot is unassuming with a mom and pop vibe. With drinks, 2 well stuffed omelettes, 2 orders of toast and hash browns our tab was a very reasonable $40. The meal was good, nothing over the top but definitely good enough that you'll want to come back a second time. There were plenty of locals which always makes me feel like I've made a good choice! read more

Came here a couple times with coworkers and this place is really great for a lunch or breakfast. Their corn beef is hash is definitely on point, but really anything on their menu won't disappoint! I'd recommend the original hamburger for lunch: comes with fries, and is made in-house, nicely plated for only about $7.00. The table has hot sauce and other condiments, and the waiters are all really busy but super friendly. I did notice however that the "outdoor" seating seemed to have less waiter service, as most people and the bar are on the interior. Ambience is like a diner (it's pretty loud on the inside so don't expect to have deep conversations here) but the food is like a proper restaurant! read more

Location: great place to start your day in Chicago if you are visiting- literally a block away from Millennium Park! The building is cool. No windows to look outside but that didn't bother us. Service: it was great, 10 minute wait to be seated and that is on a Saturday morning. Prompt wait staff and friendly. Food: good diner food- hit the spot! My son had the French toast and I had the eggs Benedict. Wish I would have ordered the avocado benedict- next time. I don't think the eggs were poached but the yolk was PERFECT. Hard to get that nowadays with Benedict! We ate everything on the plate. Bonus they have alcohol. I imagine it would be good for hangover days to eat here. Tip: ask for the key to bathroom first. read more

Good diner style breakfast. If you want a fairly quick and no frills hot breakfast this is your place. It's in the most gorgeous building and a great central location to downtown Chicago. My boyfriend is a meat and potatoes kind of breakfast person while I am an avocado toast kinda girl and this checked both boxes. It was a really hot day outside and the "patio" seating which I'm in an indoor courtyard was a little warm, but the inside portion of the restaurant was plenty cool and big inside. They have plenty of bus boys, servers and staff making sure tables are cleaned fast and food is coming as quickly as it's made. I had an egg, avocado and cheese croissant sandwich that was absolutely delicious, very hot and perfectly cooked. The croissant was big, buttery and fresh. My boyfriend had a ham/cheese omelet with hash browns and a bagel and he was just as happy as well. The hash browns are apparently made fresh and were cooked very well but lacking a bit of seasoning. The table next to us had milkshakes and cappuccinos that looked pretty delicious as well. We would definitely come back for a hot breakfast. read more

Great breakfast spot- sorta hard to find due to scaffolding around both entrances. Highly recommend the banana bread French toast. So tender and flavorful. Wonderful breakfast treat! This is your average low-key diner that happens to be hidden in a lovely old building in The Loop and offer some tasty, affordable options. I'd rate this 3.5 stars if I could, since it isn't anything fancy our outstanding, but good food at good prices in an old but clean diner won me over. What a great find with AMPLE seating through peak times. Ample not because there wasn't people there but because they are sized right during rush hours (they must add the cafe style seats outside the restaurant where we sat and never felt like we were inside a building because of the four floors that were completely open above you to gorgeous ceilings). Food was good and what you'd expect from a good diner. We split the Santa Fe steak burrito and French toast with strawberries. Fresh squeezed OJ was super good sweet and pulpy, just how I like it. The service was absolutely top notch. Someone saw we didn't have menus when we were seated and brought some over right away and our server Victoria was sweet, caring and attentive. Go into the 55 Washington building and you'll find this hidden gem. It's almost across the street from the bean too, so great great location. We have tried to get into Wildberry 5 times. And although we probably will try and get there again, we for sure will have this place as a sweet little go to that you can count on. Definitely come in here and enjoy. read more

What a great find in downtown Chicago! Reminds me of Hathaway's diner in the Carew Tower in Cincinnati. Huge number of menu choices (we had breakfast) "early bird" lasts until 11am on Sundays and the service was super fast - great diner feel. Food was terrific! read more

I have no idea how the Pittsfield Cafe has a 4-star rating when they serve food from the freezer. We ventured to the Pittsfield on our trip to Chicago last weekend. It was on our list of potential breakfast/lunch spots, recommended by Yelp (4 stars) and close to the hotel we were at. It was a rainy morning and the breakfast spot of choice had a 1.5 hour wait (at 11am). So we crossed the street and went to the Pittsfield Cafe, where we were seated right away. Located inside the Pittsfield building, it's an historic site and therefore it's "on the map". That said, this building wouldn't make the short list on an architectural walking tour - it's not that impressive. Nonetheless, it's probably part of the reason for the 4-star rating the cafe gets. I had a craving for fish and chips; my wife went with the burger. We asked the waitress, who was great, and extremely pleasant and helpful, if we had made good choices. She told us they were both excellent choices. WOW WOW WOW The fish and chips came - sorry, I was too dumbfounded to take a picture - and on the plate were three fish sticks (the triangle shaped ones), just like you'd pour out of a freezer bag. OMG it was so horrible. I hate choosing poorly when it comes to food. You pick a bad excursion, you're out time and a few bucks. You pick bad food, you're out a meal you can't eat somewhere else. And you also feel obligated to eat the bad food. Oy. The burger was no better. Also from a freezer box, it was one of those flat burgers (read McDonald's). Nothing going on here. Just boring and tasteless. Oh, and the fries, they were ok, but were also crinkle cut fries - yep, just like the ones you have in the freezer. read more

So we were in town from Miami and and it's freezing cold but wanted to walk out for a decent breakfast. Like any sane person we check yelp for the best breakfast around our hotel and this was one of the best rated. My wife had the French toast for chocolate lovers and I had the steak skillet. This reminds me of one of those old-school diners in look/feel where prices are pretty cheap but with this place they cook the food like they really give a crap about making sure you enjoy it. My wife never finishes the French toast when she orders from other places but she ate every last bite. The ribeye on my skillet was cooked to perfection and blended perfectly with the hashbrowns. The reviews of the cafe were such that we couldn't wait to try it out. As noted in other reviews; the cafe is located off a lobby of what once was a hotel. I think it is now being converted to condos, but I could be wrong. The architecture is of the 1920-30's Art Deco period and absolutely beautiful. The cafe itself is small with a bar and a classic diner feel. Our table had bench/booth seating on the wall and chairs otherwise. The menu is breakfast/lunch and varied. One of us had French toast with strawberries- the toast was thick and she said it was delicious; one of us had a skillet modified with egg whites (also delicious) and I had a bagel lox with egg sandwich, which was outstanding. It came with a side of hash browns. The sandwich had a good amount of smoked salmon with fresh cuke, tomato and onion and the fried egg (hard cooked) along with a small tub of cream cheese. It was perfection on a plate and I'm so glad I got it. The drinks (water, soda and coffee) were delivered quickly. The restaurant was clean. Why four stars? The bathroom! Dirty, in the basement and isolated. There was soap and paper towels, so there is that but no toilet paper and really, creepy. I'd probably skip that in the future. read more
