Not worth the wait. The service was ok, but slow and inattentive. The food was...not great. My "bacon creamy cheesy" grits...were DRY and just had some shredded cheese thrown in to it. My extra crispy hash browns in my skillet heap...limp. Not in a hurry to come back and definitely would not wait in any line to try it again.

At first glance I loved this building and its art deco vibe. It is visually beautiful. Long wait to be seated. We noticed that after we ordered several people around us got who were seated well after us got their food before ours came out. I'm not sure why that happened but our server came and said they were backed up in the kitchen. When the food came out it was a HUGE serving size. Then I noticed on closer inspection that my hash browns ordered extra crispy were soggy and not even a little crispy. My omelette was loaded with jalapeño peppers but very little cheese. Nothing was seasoned at all. The guy filling/refilling the coffee was great. He kept our cups full the entire time which was great because the water here tastes like it came out of a moldy hose. With so many options in the area I would be hesitant to come back. Maybe an off day??? However, they were so busy so maybe people are into what they get here.

The food was okay, no kids menu but my kids were happy. Nothing extraordinary but will fill the void. Service was fine, the ambiance is pretty cool, inside the lobby of an apartment building

I had heard about the Pittsfield Cafe and decided to seek it out when we were recently downtown. The restaurant is inside an office building off of Jewelers Row so unless you know about it you probably wouldn't come across it. The restaurant is a small diner but they have a nice seating area in the lobby of the building which has a lot of gothic revival architecture. The menu is full of your usual breakfast place options. The food was fine and the service was friendly. We are glad we tried it but likely won't make a return trip unless we have business in that building.

    Food was soggy and cold.

Got here and had to wait 10 minutes to be seated. Server took a while to notice us and get our food down. After that we proceeded to wait an hour and by the time the food got here my whole plate was cold. I guess they just forgot about or table. Bad service. Don't recommend.

On a Friday morning, it was empty yet bustling. I needed a quick bite after my flight. The mint tea was delicious. I ordered le croissant and had 0 complaints. The service was prompt and pleasant.

I was walking around on a Wednesday morning and I was looking for somewhere to have breakfast. I stumbled upon the Pittsfield Cafe. This is a small cafe in the Pittsfield Building. I was able to sit in the lobby area or in the cafe. I sat in the lobby. I had two eggs over medium, a large portion of hash browns, two sausage links and toast. My meal came out pretty fast and was very tasty. With tax my total was around $16.00. This isn't anything fancy but definitely a good breakfast option if you are in the Millennium Park area.

Yummy breakfast in the Chicago Loop district. Beautiful setting in historic building. The corned beef hash was shaved corned beef with multi color peppers. A little Louisiana Hot Sauce and you have an excellent breakfast. I'll be back again tomorrow!

Located in the lower lobby of the Pittsfield apartments, the location is close to millennium park and Michigan avenue. The architecture of the building itself is gorgeous and if you can get seating in the 'patio' seating you can enjoy it. The servers were friendly and accommodating. It was very busy throughout the duration of our meal but we got just the right amount of attention. We ordered a Bacon Blue Burger and Eggs Benedict. Both were great, fresh, and delicious. The menu is large and they serve breakfast for their entire service (7am-3pm).

The perfect little diner! I was in the mood for the typical diner food and stumbled upon this place. From the moment I walked in I knew it was exactly what I was looking for. I got the Bronx Skillet with Corned Beef and it was a big portion but not too big. It would be easy to share. It came with toast and I got a side of fruit. The staff is amazing. Super friendly and offered great suggestions. I would recommend if you want a classic diner experience with good food.

Sat at my usual stool two years after my last visit. I just love this place. The exterior looks like a condemned building, but Pittsfield Diner is inside and tucked into a bright, lively corner of a dark, austere atrium. French toast and three slices of bacon with orange juice. Just right for a Sunday breakfast. Total came to over $25. And that's too much for two bread slices frenched and three thin slices of bacon, but it was the glass of orange juice that broke me at $6.29. Ouch. I've got to fill a star for that. But to be clear, everything was diner-good, and I still love this place.

They were a bit short-staffed that morning, so service was slower than usual, but we weren't in a hurry and the staff remained friendly throughout. I ordered the daily special French toast, added fruit and pecans, plus a side of bacon. The French toast was absolutely massive and could easily be shared. My only complaint was the $3.75 charge for pecans, which felt a little steep for the amount included. Overall, the food was good, the diner atmosphere was exactly what I was hoping for, and there's something special about dining in such a historic Chicago institution. If you're visiting the city and don't mind a bit of a wait, Lou Mitchell's is worth experiencing at least once.

And this is on top of the city parking you have to pay to eat there. It's just craziness. I will say that the toast was pretty delicious. The server was nice enough. The bathrooms were downstairs and needed attention.

I would assume a place where the newest thing since the 1980s is the security camera would have vinyl with more cracks and patina than my trusty old leather jacket! But no, it's in fantastic shape. Especially given that, the vibe in here is awesome! It's like stepping through a time-portal. For food, I ordered an old favorite: Pigs in Blankets. The food came out fast, though, to be fair, there was only one other person dining in at the time. The sausage links were crisp, and the pancakes were lightly sweet and fluffy. All in all, great! While perhaps not enough to summon the Michelin Guide inspectors, it was better than the average greasy spoon. Finally, I really appreciate that the prices are reasonable, and that there is parking! Final verdict: I've had a small handful of spectacular breakfasts. I've also had criminal breakfasts, where two unsalted eggs, two bacon strips, and a tablespoon of potatoes costs $14.95. Golden House Restaurant & Pancake House finds itself in that sweet spot in between - it is neither a spectacular spot (often have prices to boot), nor is it an overpriced, underwhelming greasy spoon that stays in business thanks to regulars who have been coming for decades and don't want anything better.

The process of getting seated through a busy period, and the service throughout was excellent. But as often happens with me, the food didn't live up to the hype. My wife and I were picking up my brother and his son from O'Hare at around 10 am on a Saturday. We had dinner plans with our uncle, but had not planned anything in between. The flight came in on time, and once confirmed we all had the time, my brother suggested going to Chicago to try Au Cheval. He knew about their location LV, but none of us had tried their original location in Chicago. So we drove into Chicago, arriving at the restaurant at 11 (it opens at 10am). There was a check-in stand set-up outside, where someone was taking names/phone numbers to put on the waiting list. We were quoted a 45 minute wait, and got the text to hurry back after about 30 minutes. There was a line to put your name down on the list, so we skipped that by going right in. The friendly hostess seated us in a booth, with a nice view of the kitchen where they were making the burgers in mass. The waitress explained that a single burger meant two patties (each patty is 4 oz, so basically a half pound burger), and a double meaning three. My brother and his son both ordered a double cheeseburger ($19.99 each), and I got a single with added sunny side up egg ($21.48). I wanted my wife to be able to take a bite, so asked for everything to be on the side (sauce, dill pickle slices, and grilled onion bits). We also ordered french fries ($8.99), cooked in duck fat. In the meanwhile, followed a fellow yelpers suggestion and got two Allagash Whites ($9 each) for me and my nephew. It's a really good beer that I've had many times during happy hour, and goes great with rich, greasy food. My wife got something else: the General Janes Chicken, which is their version of Korean Fried Chicken ($24.98). She enjoyed it (the coating was still crispy, and the sauce had that pronounced kochujang flavor that we like). Everything is a la carte here (except for the complementary pickle spear with burgers), so she shared in the ordered fries. Food came out together and was served hot. There is a mandatory 3.25% surcharge, and payment is taken at the table. As mentioned, service was excellent throughout. To be honest, I'm not the right person to judge a burger like this (I like it backyard style, with a lot of lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickles...and mayo/ketchup). But my brother and nephew are (they have tried many, many burgers all across the world, and don't like too much toppings on their burger), and they said the burger was just OK for them. I liked the frites (cooked in duck fat)...very light in color, but still crispy on the outside. However, nobody else really ate them, saying they weren't great. It's unusual for me to be the least critical after dining, but I'm sure it had something to do with the observation that I didn't have to pay for it (since it was my brother's treat).
