Extra cheese 18" pizza
Meredith S.

This is our second time ordering takeout here. We aren't from this area, but visit often (have a kid in college close). This is the best NY Style Pizza we have found in the Charleston area. The crust is fantastic - thin NY foldable crust. The sauce is the perfect balance of sweet with a touch of acidity. And yes, they know how to do extra cheese without going overboard. We also ordered a side of garlic knots - so pillowy and had a perfect amount of garlic, oil and herbs. Again, our kid goes to school locally, and after our second time ordering from here in the last year, this is now our "go to" spot for pizza. We will be back! Extra kudos for such a friendly staff!!

Stopped in last night with my kids. We all had slices. My youngest had pepperoni, my daughter had cheese, and I had a slice of white, meat lovers, and Sicilian, and we dined in. The pizza claims to be New York style and it's mostly there? The crust is right. But the rest of it feels off. It's not greasy like a New York pizza. My slice of Sicilian didn't have olive oil on the crust like it's supposed to, my white pizza had zero garlic taste. The form was well done but the execution was off. I was also really stunned by the prices, slices at $3.68 and up is a lot, it's literally cheaper in New York City. On top of that despite charging a mint for a fountain drink, they are charging $1 for refills. I can't remember the last time I was at a place where I could serve myself a fountain drink and refills were paid for, and when you charge this much for a drink or a slice of pizza, it would be OK to give free refills in my book. Staff and service was friendly and fast, place was clean on the inside and about the same as any other pizza place. Please keep in mind, the pizza itself was fine. But I felt it was kind of swing and miss on actual, authentic New York City pizza, and I say this as someone born there, worked there, and regularly goes there, and the lack of flavor on the Sicilian and white slices was disappointing, as is the price. With some small tweaks I think they could hit five stars for sure. J.Ja

Margarita with one small dot of cheese.

Three stars because the pepperoni was good but seriously look at this Margherita pizza! It's like they ran out of cheese and had to be calculated with how they distributed it. PLEASE SIR , may I have some more ? Had to add our own to the leftovers to enhance it..

NY Style pepperoni

Great NY style pizza for an awesome lunch deal. Hard for me to resist making this my default lunch spot. The pepperoni has always been a super satisfying mid day treat. They had some great alternatives, and they're even doing bagels in the morning now! The staff is pretty chill, great people!

Crust is baked perfectly! I liked the special of the day - a margarita pizza. Personally I could use more cheese but feel free to add more!! Our boss highly recommended this spot so happy to try Pizza a Modo Mio for pi day!

I ordered a New York style pepperoni pizza to-go. The restaurant gives off small pizza shop vibes, which I appreciate. The staff were super nice and my order was ready when they said it would be. The pizza was good, not great, but good. I'm sure if I had eaten it in the restaurant it would have been better. I would definitely go back and dine in next time!

Pizza A Modo Mio is one of my favorite pizza places. The owner Mike is very friendly and very involved in helping the local community. His cheese pizza took sixth place in an international pizza competition in Vegas. I didn't want to write my review based on one experience, so my wife and I have ordered a number of items over the last few months. Up first is the loaded garlic knots which offered a generous coating of Mike's signature sauce and absolutely as the name says loaded with ooey gooey mozzarella cheese. So hard not to fill up on just these. Then there is the Hot Roni pie covered in perfectly cooked cup pepperoni and drizzled with pepper infused hot honey which hits all the great flavor notes. Spicy, sweet and savory on a perfectly light and crispy New York crust it's a crowd pleaser. The meat lovers offer pepperoni, sausage and meatballs which are is grandma's recipe. You can tell the meats are high quality and despite all the meat the pizza was not the least bit greasy. Ou absolute favorite pie here is the White pizza. Cheesy and rich and finally a pie that doesn't hold back on the ricotta giving you ricotta in every bite! The Calzone here is baked to a golden brown, we added pepperoni and meatball, and like the White pizza was very generous with the ricotta cheese. We split one and were quite full afterward. I had to try the meatball parm as I have been missing a good one since Philly's closed in Summerville. I am happy to report that this on was just as good if not better, loaded with his grandma's meatballs which have a great spice profile and of course lots a yummy cheese on top, a must try! He recently started offering NY bagels in the morning and at $3.50 for a fresh chewy bagel loaded with specialty cream cheese is a great way to nab an inexpensive breakfast. They offer a lunch special with two regular slices with a drink for $7.95 and two specialty slices and a drink for $9.95. So, whether you just want some slices or are looking to take the family out for a pizza feast definitely go to Pizza A Modo Mio!

This side of West Ashley needed a pizza-by-the-slice option for lunch, and Pizza a Modo Mio did not disappoint. I like that I can stop in for a quick slice, especially just after noon when the pizzas are placed in the case. The workers do heat the slices in the oven as well, and they taste fresh. On my latest visit, I had a Sicilian slice, which was around $4 and very filling. If you have meetings after lunch and need to stay awake, you might want to opt for a NY Slice because it's lighter. The case has quite a few choices, from white pizza to meat lovers, and you can also purchase pizzas, sandwiches, and salads off the menu at lunch. If you live or work near Shadowmoss or Grand Oaks, this is a great spot for pizza without having to drive far or wait a long time.

The pizza is great! I love that the dough comes from NY! There's something in the NY water that makes pizza that much better. The mushrooms are fresh and the grilled chicken is cooked to perfection. The decor is very New York with various landmarks and facts covering the walls. The owner is also very friendly! Definitely check it out. There is also a second location in Hollywood.

Mike has brought New York style pizza to the Low Country. I don't know how he does it, but the dough is exactly the same.

They have a bar to serve your favorite beverages. This is a great place for families or just hanging out with friends. I ordered a veggie pizza. This is New York style pizza and the slices are huge. The crust was thin and bubbly. The sauce was delicious and the veggies were generous. The pizza was topped with fresh basil. I highly recommend.

Usually we prefer table service, but honestly the bar is the way to go here since you get a front row seat to the pizza making. We ordered a half pepperoni and half sausage pizza. As I saw the beautiful pies coming out of the oven they were all getting dressed with fresh parm and basil and I was worried I didn't add that for ours, but after feverishly flaging down our server he reasured me that all the pizzas come with the special treatment at the end (unless otherwise noted). As I calmed my nerves I sipped on some delicious bottle of sweet tea. It was only the slightest bit sweet and so refreshing. Plus we ordered a salad as well. We were concerned about the size of the salad when we saw our neighbors come out, but our server let us know we could get a half Caesar if we preferred. The salad is a must have. I love how they just chop the ends off the romain and add the perfect amount of dressing, crunchy bread crumbs, and loads of cheese. The pizza came out shortly after and it was perfection. If you're looking for thin crust northern style pizza then you will definitely find it here. They also use top notch ingredients making this a pizza one to remember. Surprisingly I enjoyed the sausage even more than the pepperoni. We were stuffed after only eating half the pie so we boxed it up and took some cannoli to go. They did half regular and half strawberries that had local strawberries mixed into the ricotta! We enjoyed all of it so much that we ordered the same items for takeout only a week later. I definitely enjoyed dining in more than takeout, but both are a great option. The online ordering was super easy and even though it was slammed when I arrived, they had my pizza, salad, and cannoli ready to go at the window when I arrived.

We waited 15 minutes until my friend got back up and asked them about his slices, it seemed they had forgotten about it and then they quickly handed him his slices after apologizing for the long wait. Despite mine being great, his was not unfortunately. His looks like it was pulled out of the oven early and was still floppy. No crisp to it at all. That's what some people like but I don't believe it's the standard. Despite this, his slices tasted good, I mean, how can you mess up a pep slice. The prices were alright for the area, I think my slice was like almost $4 after tax. I'll probably be back because of the convenience of being able to just order and pay right away and then get a slice a few minutes later. I would overall recommend.

Pizza is also available by the slice, which is what I ended up getting. Originally, I wanted to order an 18-inch cheese pizza, but the waiter told me it would take about 30 minutes and recommended ordering by the slice instead. I tried the cheese pizza by the slice. The pizza had a classic New York-style feel, but my slice was a little dry and slightly burned. It was decent overall, just not the best pizza I've had. If you're looking for a quick carryout spot with New York-style pizza options, it may be worth trying, but I'm not sure it would be my first choice for pizza.

I will preface this by saying that I have a bad habit of visiting restaurants at weird times (4pm…read morein this case), after lunch but before they get into the groove of dinner service. So it's entirely possible (and understandable) that I don't always get the best of what a place has to offer. That said, this was the worst pizza I've ever eaten. I was happy to see a place offer NY style pizza by the slice; you don't find that a lot in Charleston. Well, you won't find it here either. It was, generously, a home cook's first attempt at making pizza. There's something fundamentally off with the dough recipe, such that even a wood fired oven can't save it. The slices were overloaded with cheese. It was like eating wet cardboard. The meatballs were pretty good! The bartender was super pleasant and the space is attractive and welcoming. But they cannot make pizza. Normally I'm loathe to air out my business on Yelp like this; I prefer to communicate with the server if there's a problem with my food. But this wasn't an execution issue that could be fixed. A do-over would've produced the same result. Maybe, MAYBE they crush it with the neopolitan specialty pies. But I'll never know.
