I've been coming here all my life. My parents used to live around the corner and we would come around when I was a toddler, but even now when we have to drive across town to get there I make the effort to go. Even though the place is in the rough part of town, the restaurant itself feels like an oasis of the past when you could ride your bike to get a slice and play some arcade games, even though the world may have changed around it, this is still a place you can do this. Even though the restaurant is kinda deep into Esco, I like going there because of the nostalgia it makes me feel. The pizza itself is amazing. If you like oily, garlicky, bready pizzas, then you should look elsewhere, but if you have fallen for flat NY style pizza come here. In my opinion, this is the perfect pizza, especially the giant one for when you have friends over. This place isn't for everyone, the world of pizzas has changed. We finally got around to trying Pizza Amore and I have to point out, we did not go for the giant pizza... after all, it's just the two of us. We just got a 16" to share and we were hungry and scarfed the whole thing down. Frankly, it was fine. For me, it was a little boring - not a lot of flavor and the toppings were not so plentiful. We got the 1 large with three toppings for $10.99 deal (you don't need a coupon... it's right on the window!). They cooked it quickly and the owners were friendly enough. Overall, it was fine, but I doubt I would choose it again. I keep looking for a pizza place that makes bomb pizza close to home, but so far... I'm still looking. I ordered two massive 28" everything-on-it pizzas for an impromptu family reunion and went to pick them up. They were housed in boxes large enough for bicycle wheels. The family loved the huge slices, but they also commented on how crispy and tasty the pizzas were. We've gone back again and again to order smaller ones with different toppings. Never disappointed, and the owner is such a wonderful man. Helped me carry the pizzas to my car and patiently waited while I had to rearrange the back truck area of the SUV to fit the pizzas. Good pizza, not amazing. Just know that you will pay a small fee for using a card to pay. So sad that establishments think they have to dig into your pocket for another three percent. I suppose it's ok, but for me, I don't appreciate a food establishment leaving the front door propped open. I grew up in Brooklyn NYC. Ever since I left coming up close to 30 years I have been unable to find that wonderful pizza I grew up on. Amore is amazing pizza in Escondido CA. They use real cheese. You know bc when you grab that slice and turn it upside down on your plate you get the oil thst comes from using real mozzarella cheese. When bite into it you taste those fresh tomatoes and italian spices and the aroma is so fresh. read more

Understand that these needed to be made in advance for an order this size so thinking this is what contributed to the Pizza's being mostly barely room temperature when we picked them up. Hmm. This place is mixed. I want to deduct another star for their lame Toppings Policy. It's always my pet peeve when a pizza place charges me for a full topping on each half instead of just doing one half blah blah and the other half blah blah. Most places don't do that and it is silly. We ordered a pretty massive feast hoping for leftovers for a couple days. I love making a fresh salad and heating up a couple slices of pizza for a super fast dinner. We got lasagna, garlic bread, hot wings and two pizzas. The lasagna and garlic bread. Laughable. My guy asked me what I thought of the lasagna.. .my response: "Where is the ricotta?" The taste and texture reminded me of what it would taste like if you topped Chef Boyardee with quality mozza. yeah. I said Chef Boyardee. Sorry. It's Pizza Amore, not pasta amore and it shows. However... the lasagna was flooded with an abundance of sauce & cheese which perked up the otherwise weak, somewhat dry stale-ish garlic bread. The pizzas we ordered were ordered with an awesome coupon from their website. They also do not need you to print those puppies out so YAY. Saved paper, saved ink, saved time. They get back that star I removed for being brats about toppings. The pizza... ok. This is how my fella described it and it's perfect (bare in mind he's a yankee and I lived on the east coast for 6 years): "Mm. This is great. This is exactly what I've been craving. This is totally NY style pizza. It's not the best. It's not the worst. Its exactly what I'd get if I went into a random pizza place in NYC and that's what I've been missing out here in California." The cheese and toppings were great, a bit sparsely topped on the pie though: classic NY style.... Use quality toppings, but sparsely. We ordered one pepperoni with pineapple and one pepperoni with mushroom. I was surprised at the mushroomy flavor. The pineapple wasn't giant chunks, so that's always good. (Pineapple pizza eaters you know how annoying it is when they put giant wet pieces on it that just fall off as soon as you pick it up and leave runny goo behind!) The wings were awful. never again. But I'm a wing snob I've found. Only asian places tend to get them crispy enough like I like it. I like a dry crispy hot wing.. not a wet, soggy, fatty hot wing. The flavor wasn't bad but they got steamy in the box (prolly our fault for being late) and soggy or not, they were super fatty, even after being made crispy in our oven. Ah well. That's the verdict. We'll be back for pizza. Not sure about trying anything else on their menu. Glad that they're there for NY style pizza. Btw, my GPS had a hard time finding this place. Just look for the NY Giant Pizza crap on the windows... that's easy to see, more so than their name even. :) Also: we got nothing with our giant to-go order. No paper plates, no napkins (and that pizza NEEDED napkins), no forks, no parm, no chili pepper. Fortunately I'm a nutcase so I had most of that stuff in my car and I had packets of hot sauce which really ratcheted up my pineapple pepperoni slices. If you plan on taking your stuff elsewhere to eat (picnic at the park anyone else???) plan ahead for the bare essentials. read more

Was having an arcade gaming night with a couple of friends and we've agreed that pizza was the cheapest option. This was our first time trying out the 28" pizza at Pizza Amore; our go-to pizza place for game night used to be Tony's Giant Pizza, but the quality has declined and we have stopped going. I must say, for a cheap price of $22 (with coupon) before tax, the 2-topping (Pineapple + Canadian Bacon for our group) 28" pizza was delicious. Toppings were abundance and the taste of the pizza overall was very fresh. The crust was great; not too soggy, not too crunchy, just the right amount of chewiness. We waited almost an hour to get our pizza, which was almost 1hour 45 minutes from when we ordered it. This is not the first time they have forgotten, lost , or misquoted time. My family and I just went to Pizza Amore today for lunch for the first time. I highly recommend this place! We got a 16 inch pepperoni pizza, half with olives. The service was great, the pizza was fresh. The sauce was zesty and not too spicy-- just right. Great crust-- not too thin, not too thick. Amazing! My hubby and I are big pizza eaters. We're not from the area so we wanted to find a good place for dinner, and O Man we found it. Simply delicious and traditional! It wasn't heavy nor nasty, greasy. All the ingredients are natural!!! The service was nice, informative and he was very Cool ;) And the prices, THE most amazing part. Super inexpensive. My husband is from NYC and I lived there over a decade and the pizza here is not good.. We also got the garlic cheese bread.. SUPER plain, unseasoned and just not good. The cheap dollar pizza back in NY or Domino's tastes much better than this. DiGiornio's is better. Chuck E Cheese is better! In all honesty... I'm seriously not a picky eater.. my standards are somewhat low and this didn't even cut it. Just plain and flavorless with a thin/flat crust and hardly ANY cheese or sauce.. it was pitiful. It makes me feel bad to leave this review because the employees were nice but we seriously can't be wasting peoples' time on here giving 1-2 star places 4 stars. Even though San Diego isn't known for their pizza, I have absolutely had much better pizza several times within SD. I was really in need of some pizza and this place was right around the corner so I ordered a pie. The inside of this place is nice and the prices are reasonable. Obviously it is much much better than a corporate Pizza Hut or dominos pizza. It's hot and it was quick and it smelled incredible. The dough and crust is lovely! Crunchy and delicious. That being said, this pizza was okay at best. The sauce tastes exactly like tomato paste and just didn't live up to what I've known to be homemade "artisan" pizzas. I'm not particularly picky and I find it difficult to mess up pizza, but if your base isn't good then there's nothing you can do to fix it. If you're in dire need of a pizza this place will do the job, but if you're looking for that close your eyes, lean back in your chair, smile at yourself pizza, this isn't going to be it. read more

Pizza was good and they were on time and the order was correct except that the giant pizza was not cut square as requested. This left a bunch off 12 and 13 year olds to have giant slices that didn't really fit on their plates and then want another piece but only finish half of it and it was a lot of waste. So the slice vs square was a definite issue for us, otherwise they were great :) read more
